Martha Huff Justis, age 74, of Caneyville died on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
She was born August 5, 1929 in West Point, Ky. as the daughter of Walter and Nina Wardrip Huff. She was a housewife and a member of the Wilson Home General Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Justis Jr.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Eva Sue Justis of Caneyville; two brothers, Charles Carter of Taylorsville, Ky. and John Huff of Newport News, Va.; and one sister, Susan Hart of Spring Lick, Ky.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 16, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wilson Home General Baptist Church under the direction of the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville. Rev. Joe Watson will be officiating.
Burial will be in the Wilson Home Cemetery.
Harlan Thomas Duvall
1936-2004
Harlan Thomas Duvall, age 67, of Louisville died on Thursday, February 12, 2004 at the VA Medical Center in Louisville.
He was born on September 21, 1936 in Grayson County as the son of Sam and Beulah Wiley Duvall.
He was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Duvall.
He is survived by two daughters, Cindy Decker and Tammy Pierce, both of Clarkson; two sons, Sam and Danny Duvall, both of Leitchfield; two sisters, Mary Alice Powell of Leitchfield and Dorothy Givens of Louisville; three step-sons, Wendell Minton of Russellville, Ky., Ronnie Minton of Louisville, and Don Minton of Leitchfield. Also surviving are eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 15, 2004 at the New Harmony United Baptist Church in Leitchfield, under the direction of the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Rev. George Langdon officiated.
Burial was in the New Harmony Cemetery.
Bobby Preston Tabor
1936-2004
Bobby Preston Tabor, age 67, of Bowling Green died on Monday, February 16, 2004 at Greenview Regional Hospital.
He was born on May 25, 1936 in Smith's Grove as the son of Ralph and Mabel Tabor. He was a graduate of the Citizens Police Academy; employed for Roses Jr Foods, Econo Lodge in retail sales, Alsohinton's Cleaners, and was a Counselor for Life Skills. He attended Providence Knob Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Anne Tabor of Bowling Green; son, Jonathan Shea Sparks of Bowling Green and fiancee, Anna Marie Roddy; sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and J.W. Dennison of Leitchfield; and brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Sue Tabor of Bowling Green. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 18, 2004 at J. C. Kirby & Son Broadway.
Burial was in the Smith's Grove City Cemetery.
Dorothy Juanita Pruitt
1927-2003
Dorothy Juanita Pruitt, age 77, of South Louisville died on Monday, February 9, 2004 at the Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was the former Juanita Embry and was a member of the Hazelwood Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Pruitt.
She is survived by two sons, Gary (Wanda) Pruitt of Georgetown, Ky., and William (Connie) Pruitt; and one sister, Wanda Lee Embry. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Melody Ann Stacy and Cynthia, Holly and Thomas Pruitt; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville with Rev. Ed Dermitt officiating.
Burial was in the Layman Memorial Cemetery.
Dessie Laverne Bates
1949-2003
Dessie Laverne Bates, age 54, of Morgantown died on Saturday, February 7, 2004 at the Ohio County Hospital in Hartford, Ky.
She was born May 19, 1949 in Bloomington, Ill. as the daughter of Chester and Dessie Burden Goodman. She was a housewife and was a member of the Mt. Olive General Baptist Church and the Zion Harmony Ladies Aid.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. James C. Bates; one son and daughter-in-law, Junior and Lorie Bates of Morgantown; a daughter and son-in-law, Shawnette and Mike Jackson of Morgantown; her mother, Dessie Goodman of Morgantown; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Annavon and Jimmy Probus and Jewelyn and Rev. Ricky Dockery, all of Beaver Dam, Ky.; eight brothers and sister-in-laws, Leroy and Julie Bates, both of Sumner, Ill., Johnny Bates, Marietta Taylor, Rick Taylor and Thomas Bates, all of Horse Branch, Ky., and Margie and Jimmy Dockery, both of Morgantown. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jamie Jackson, Jonathon Bates, Ryan Jackson and Bryar Bates, all of Morgantown; 11 nephews, seven nieces, 12 great-nephews, and 10 great-nieces.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at the Zion Harmony General Baptist Church with Reverends Gary Embry and Joe Williams officiating.
Burial was in the Zion Harmony Cemetery.
Robert C. Drane
1932-2003
Robert C. Drane, age 71, of Louisville died on Saturday, February 7, 2004 at Baptist Hospital East. He was a native of Big Clifty.
He was an Air Force veteran for 16 years of loyal service, owner/operator of the old Drane Ornamental Iron Co. and was also a former employee for the old Receiver Construction Co. His memberships included Buechel Park Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, and National Ornamental Iron Manufacturers.
He is survived by his wife, the former Anna L. Hudson; children, Greg (Laurie) Drane, Nona (Roy) Geide, Robert C. (Laura) Drane, Jr., Kathy (Michael) Schaefer and Libby Kinberger; one sister, Pauline Dangerfield; one brother, Harley Drane, and 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at Buechel Park Baptist Church with entombment following in Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum.
