Lowell Mart Witten, age 89, of Clarkson died on Friday, January 30, 2004 at his residence.
He was born February 27, 1914. He was a member of Wilhelm Masonic Lodge of Clarkson and a member of Rock Creek Methodist Church. He was retired from the Highway Transportation Department.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Witten of Clarkson; his son, Darrell Witten of Clarkson; five grandchildren, Dana Mann of Clarksville, Tenn., Kendra Hatfield, Doug and Jessica Witten, all of Clarkson, and Jeff Irvine. Also surviving are two great-granddaughters, Caitlin Irvine and Emily Mann.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oza and Ida Meredith Witten.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 1, 2004 at Rock Creek Methodist Church with Bro. Charlie Smith officiating.
Burial was in the Rock Creek Cemetery.
Earl H. Embry
1908-2004
Earl H. Embry, age 95, of Horse Branch died on Friday, January 30, 2004 at the Ohio County Hospital in Hartford, Ky.
He was born July 11, 1908 in Butler County as the son of William and Mary Elizabeth Pryor Embry. He was a member of Mt. Olive General Baptist Church, and enjoyed playing with his great-great-niece and nephew, Madeline and Samuel Rise. He was a retired sawmill operator.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy.
He is survived by several nieces and nephew.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 1, 2004 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville with Rev. Joe Williams officiating.
Burial was in the Richland Cemetery.
Robert Alex Skaggs
1944-2003
Robert Alex Skaggs, age 59, of Constantine, Ky., died on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital.
He was retired from American Standard, a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Clarkson, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and Nascar.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Skaggs of Constantine; two daughters, Bridgett Lynn Jaggers of Leitchfield and Debbie Ann Fint of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; one son, Robert Louis Skaggs of Elizabethtown; his mother and step-father, Bessie and Bill Crenshaw of Shepherdsville, Ky.; one sister, Rebecca Bieselt of Shepherdsville; and 10 half brothers and sisters. Also surviving are four grandchildren and 1 step-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 7, 2004 at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home with Rev. David Reynolds officiating.
Burial was in the Constantine Cemetery.
Melissa Amber Coffey
1976-2004
Melissa Amber Coffey, age 26, of Big Clifty died on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 in Louisville.
She was born November 22, 1976. She was employed at Leitchfield Plastic.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Coffey Jr. of Leitchfield; one daughter, Serayah Louann Coffey of Big Clifty; her mother, Barbara Hill of Big Clifty; her father, Bobby Cagle of Louisville; her brother, Robert Hill of Big Clifty; her sister, Amy Shaffer of Louisville; a nephew, Luke Aubrey of Louisville, a niece, Lanni Wright of Caneyville, and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 1, 2004 at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home with Bro. Elvert Peters officiating.
Elmer Thomas
1916-2003
Elmer Thomas, age 87, of Leitchfield died on Thursday, February 5, 2004 at his residence.
He was born on September 9, 1916 as the son of John and Mary Decker Thomas in Leitchfield. He was a farmer and a Army veteran of WWII.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hawkins Thomas of Leitchfield; two daughters, Brenda Jean Hodges of Leitchfield and Wanda Duvall of Big Clifty; and one son, Barry Thomas of Clarkson. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 7, 2004 at the home of Watson & Hunt Funeral Directors.
Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Leitchfield.
Thelma Mudd
1906-2004
Thelma Mudd, age 97, of Louisville, formerly of Grayson County, died on Friday, January 9, 2004 at the Caritas Hospital in Louisville.
She was born on September 9, 1906 in the Sadler Community as the daughter of Evan and Sarah Gaither Blair. She was a housewife and a member of the Knob Creek Baptist Church in Louisville.
She is survived by seven children, Betty Marshal, Louise Smith and Mac Mudd of Valley Station, Hayden Mudd of Caneyville, Howard Mudd and Ina Mae Burkhart of Louisville, and Glen Mudd of Brandenburg; and one sister, Flossie Dowler of Central City. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 12, 2004 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Bro. Ernie Johnson officiating.
Burial was in the Cook Cemetery.
