Tula C. Coats, age 92, of Caneyville died on Friday, January 9, 2004.
She was born on September 22, 1911 as the daughter of Herbert S. and Rachel Gollady Horn.
She was owner and operator of Green Valley Grocery for more than 50 years, which is now a historical landmark.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert S. and Rachel Gollady Horn; two brothers Forest Ray Horn and Arthur Pierson Horn; one sister, Lillian Mae Rhodes and two half-brother James Horn and Herbert Horn.
She is survived by four half-sisters Allene Decker of Big Clifty, Ivy Jo Horn and Clarabelle Turner of Louisville and Mary Richardson of Indiana; and one half-brother, Hobert Horn of Louisville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Roger-Ollers Funeral Home with Brother Billy Wayne Hack officiating.
Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 11 after 10 a.m. at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home.
Bobbie Jean Carnes
1943-2004
Bobbie Jean Carnes, age 60, of Leitchfield died on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 in Leitchfield.
She was born on December 5, 1943. She was a housewife and a member of Providence General Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Mitchell Carnes; one son, John Paul Carnes of Leitchfield; two daughters and son-in-laws, Gail and Barry Alexander of Leitchfield and Shirley and Gerald Beatty of Caneyville; one sister, Clara Carver Casve City, Ky. She is also survived by eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Ruby Dile England; one son, Charles Mitchell Carnes; one daughter, Debbie Lee Vibbert; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 15, 2004 at Providence General Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Johnson officiating.
Burial was in the Lile Cemetery on Bloomington Road.
Watkins-Oller Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mildred Ann Decker
1958-2004
Mildred Ann Decker, age 45, of Leitchfield, formerly of Dickey Mill Road, died on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
She was born on January 14, 1958 in Grayson County as the daughter of Stroud and Eula Mae Meredith Decker. She was a resident of Grayson Manor and a member of Anneta United Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Ray Decker.
She is survived by two nephews, Jimmy Ray Decker and his wife Sheila, and Kevin Decker and his wife Nancy, both of Leitchfield; two nieces, Judy Glutting and her husband Keith of Leitchfield, and Karen Lee and her husband Andy of Ekron, Ky. Also surviving are 12 great nephews and nieces, and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 15, 2003 at the Anneta United Baptist Church in Anneta.
Burial was in the Anneta Cemetery.
Sam Terry
1912-2004
Sam Terry, age 91, of Big Clifty died Friday, January 9, 2004. He was born on July 5, 1912 as the son of Sam and Alma Cash Terry.
He was a retired farmer and a member of the Masonic Lodge #599 F & AM.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Alma Cash Terry; his wife, Frances Terry and two daughters, Lara Terry and Betty Ann Terry.
He is survived by four daughters, Barbara Jean Burkhead of Louisville, Elaine Hall and Linda Marquez, both of Big Clifty, and Lana Lawrence of Albany, Ky. He is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Masonic Service was held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11 at Rogers -Oller Funeral Home. Funeral services were private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Grayson County Historical Society.
Burial was in the Clarkson Cemetery.
John H. Hatfield
1912-2004
John H. Hatfield, age 91, of Calvert City, Ky. died on Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Calvert City.
He was born on November 12, 1912 in Grayson County as the son of Richard G. and Ada Lucas Hatfield.
He was a carpenter and a World War II veteran of the U. S. Army, a life-long member of the Decatur VFW Post #99 and a friend of the Latham United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jana B. Williams; one daughter, Janet Sue Farkas and one infant son.
He was survived by three daughters, Nancy (Richard) Ratts and Carolyn (Rick) Bragg of Gilbertsville, Ky., and Ruth (Darrell) Heckman of Lake Placid, Florida; one sister Ola Lucas of Louisville and one brother, Chester Hatfield.
He is also survived by four grandchildren, four step grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two step great, great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan 13 at 10 a.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, Illinois with the Reverend Carol Andricks officiating.
Burial will be in the Lake Bank Cemetery, in Latham, Illinois where there will be full military rites.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12 at Frickle-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to the Latham United Methodist Church.
