William Joseph Evans, age 70, of Clarkson, died Sunday, October 10, 2004 in Clearwater, Florida.
He was born December 13, 1933 in Louisville, Ky. as the son of William Sr. and Sarah Mitchell Evans. He was a retired U.S. Naval Officer, a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, and a member of the American Legion Post 81.
He is survived by one son, Donald Evans of Tennessee; three daughters, Mary Jean Petrozzi, Karen Foreman, and Cheryl Patterson, all of Tennessee; two brothers, Charles and David Grissett, both of Florida; and two sisters, Mary Kay Leverock and Nora McVay, all of Florida. Also surviving are five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 21, 2004 at the Sulfur Wells Baptist Church in Clarkson.
Burial was in the Gibson Cemetery.
Watson & Hunt Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements.
Stella Virginia Whitney
Stella Virginia Whitney, age 87, of Clarkson, Ky., died Sunday, October 17, 2004 at the University of Louisville Hospital.
She was born August 5, 1917. She was a store clerk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Whitney; and her parents, Dave and Maude Sidebottoms Hall.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary V. Wheeler of Radcliff, Ky., brother, J. C. Hall of Louisville; and sister, Addie Whitney of Bardstown, Ky. Also surviving are grandson, Steve Bailey of Clarkson, Ky., great-granddaughter, Crissy Bailey of Clarkson; great-grandson, Ryan Bailey of Clarkson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home in Clarkson.
Burial was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Anita Taylor
Anita Hayes Taylor, age 84, of Louisville, Ky., died Saturday, October 16, 2004 at the Franciscan Health Care in Louisville. She was a native of Caneyville, Ky.
She retired from Reynolds Metal after 39 years, and was a member of O.E.S. Chapter 361.
She is survived by son, Cecil Taylor; daughter, Dixie Miller, and six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 20, 2004 Owen Funeral Home in Louisville.
Burial was in the Memorial Gardens-West in Louisville.
Isaac Miller Hodge
Isaac Miller Hodge, age 88, of Summit, Ky., died Friday, October 15, 2004 at the Elizabethown Nursing & Rehab.
He was born August 28, 1916. He was a retired mechanic and a member of Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Alpha Hodge of Summit; daughter, Pansy Marie Brown of Louisville, Ky.; two sons, Russell Lee Hodge and Charles Hodge, both of Summit; grandson, Ronnie Brown; and granddaughter, Angela Brown.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 25 years, Mary Pansy Poore Hodge; parents, Anderson T. and Juliabelle Miller Hodge; brothers, Joe and James Hodge; and his sister, Corene Hodge.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 18, 2004 at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home with Bro. James Long officiating.
Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery.
Arthur Hilary Samuels
Arthur Hilary Samuels, age 82, of Shepherdsville, Ky., died Thursday, October 14, 2004.
He was born in Bullitt County as the son of Lee Bates and Flora Samuels. He was a woodworker for Wood Mosaic and a member of Shepherdsville Gospel Chapel.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Freda Doris Kapple Samuels; four sons, James Hilary (Katrina) Samuels, Carroll Jewell (Debbie) Samuels, Donald Thomas (Robyn) Samuels and Daniel Earl (Cheryl) Samuels; two daughters, Freda Mae (Donnie) Arnold and Margaret Louise (Dale) Noe; two foster sons, Sherman Lee and Roger Wayne Samuels; three brothers, John (Alma) Samuels, Paul (Eleanora) Samuels, and Virgil (Sharon) Samuels; five sisters, Geneva Goodman, Viola Samuels, Mildred Samuels, Hallie Lacy, and Mae Eleanora (Danny) Dickerson. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Willie Samuels, David Samuels, and James Samuels; two sisters, Catherine Samuels and Elizabeth Isaacs.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 17, 2004 at Shepherdsville Gospel Chapel Church.
Burial was in the Camp Ground Cemetery.
Neita Y. Davis
Neita Y. Davis, age 91, of Leitchfield, died Monday, October 18, 2004 at her residence.
She taught school in Grayson and Breckinridge Counties. She and her husband, Bob, and brother, Alton, ran Young and Davis Electrical in Hardinsburg, Ky. They moved to Osprey, Fla. and managed a motel for several years. After her husband's death, she lived in Venice, Fla. until 1991, and then in Louisville, Ky. until 2002. She was a member of St. Matthews Methodist Church and a member of the Louisville Chapter of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Davis; her parents, Daniel Boone Young and Euelia Butler Young; brother, Alton Young; and sister, Carrie Young Templeman.
She is survived by four nephews and one niece.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Rev. Edward Dermitt officiating.
Burial was in the Leitchfield Memory Gardens.
