Sammie Arnold Powell

Sammie Arnold Powell, age 70, of Clarkson, Ky., died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Ky.

He was born July 15, 1933 in Grayson County as the son of Fred and Pearl Dennis Powell. He was a Deacon at Broadford Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Carby Powell of Clarkson; son and daughter-in-law, Bentley and Etta Powell of Clarkson; daughter and son-in-law, Janeice and Buddy Riggs of Clarkson; three brothers, Alford Powell of Clarkson, Paul Powell of Bardstown, Ky., and Carl Powell of Shepherdsville, Ky.; four sisters, Carolyn Meredith and Donna K. Jordan, both of Clarkson, Agnes Riggs of Upton, Ky., and Beulah Kessinger of Louisville, Ky. Also surviving are five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Maynard Powell.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 11, 2004 at Broadford Baptist Church with Bro. Mikey Clemons and Abb Stanton officiating.

Burial was in the Broadford Cemetery.

George Hugron

George Hugron, age 82, of Leitchfield, died on Monday, July 19, 2004 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.

He was a retired carpenter and was a member of the Unity Pentecostal Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hugron.

He is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Jo Bryant of Bowling Green, Ky.; one step-son, Thomas Reed of Leitchfield; four step-daughters, June Decker, Norma Reed and Brenda Webber, all of Leitchfield, and Viola Cunningham of Belmont, Ky. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Bro. Billy Hack officiating.

Burial was in the Lyle Cemetery.

Josephine Young

Josephine Young, age 94, of Louisville, Ky., died on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at the Pine Tree Villa in Louisville.

She was born August 17, 1909, in Yeaman, Ky., as the daughter of George Leslie and Mattie Elizabeth Layman Young. She also was a retired school teacher from the Grayson and Jefferson County School Systems.

She is survived by three nieces, Charleen Duncan Woods of Irvington, Ky., Bertie Duncan Embry and Glenda Young, both of Louisville; one nephew, James Anderson Young of Crestwood, Ky.; and a host of great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a nephew, H.L. Duncan.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 19, 2004 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville, Ky.

Burial was in the Yeaman Cemetery.

Bertha L. Nottingham

Bertha L. Nottingham, age 69, of Big Clifty, Ky., died on Sunday, July 18, 2004 at her residence.

She was born on January 2, 1935. She worked for RCA as a Production Worker and was a member of the Methodist Faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Nottingham; parents, Benjamin and Virginia Sutton Lewis; one son, Donald Irwin; and one brother, Benjamin Sutton.

She is survived by three daughters, Jane Winchell of Big Clifty, Janice Thorpe of Louisville, Ky., and June Lowe of South Bend, Ind.; four brothers, Jim Sutton of Francisville, Ind., David Sutton of Wolcotte, Ind., Robert Sutton of Monticello, Ind., and Euwing Sutton of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two sisters, Sarah Fields and Lorena Poindexter, both of Wolcotte, Ind. Also surviving are nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Embry officiating.

Burial was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Big Clifty.

Ralph Roger Boone Sr.

Ralph Roger Boone Sr., age 82, of Caneyville, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.

He was born on September 11, 1921 as the son of Daniel Forest and Inez Shaw Boone.

He was a member of the New Harvest Baptist Church and a member of the Caneyville Masonic and Eastern Star. He served as Grayson County Sheriff 1958-1961, and was the owner of Boone's Motor Co. & Body Shop.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Strasburger Boone of Caneyville; three sons, Roy Daniel Boone of N.C., Michael Wayne Boone of Caneyville, and Ralph Boone Jr. of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren, Clay Lile Boone of Clarkson, David Boone of Nicholsville, Ky., and Melissa Boone; also surviving are four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 24, 2004, at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville with Rev. Andy Vance officiating.

Burial was in the McCanless Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the McCanless Cemetery of the New Harvest Church.

Mary Agalene Nunn

Mary Agalene Nunn, age 91, of Clarkson, Ky., died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at his residence in Clarkson.

She was born March 22, 1913 as the daughter of Charles and Mary Elizabeth Williams. She was a housewife and a member of Little Clifty Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Judd Nunn; one daughter, Mary Jane Nunn; one son, Judd Nunn Jr.; and two grandsons, James and Patrick Nunn.

She is survived by four sons & daughter-in-laws; Orval L. and Nora Nunn of Munfordsville, Ky.; Cloye R. and Patricia Nunn, Charles D. and Donna Nunn, Jimmy R. and Anna Nunn, all of Millerstown; two daughters and son-in-laws, Mary Bell Burden and Eskell Burden, of Clarkson, Minne and Guy Briggs, of Bowling Green, Ky.; one daughter, Virginia Nunn, of Munfordsville, Ky.; and one sister, Rena Catherine Ferris, of Elizabethtown, Ky.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home in Clarkson with Bro. Abb Stanton and Bro. Gary Logsdon officiating.

Burial was in the Old Lone Oak Cemetery.
