Mary Ann Brown, 82, of Caneyville, passed away Wednesday, March 25th, 2015 at Grayson Manor in Leitchfield.
She was born on May 22nd, 1932 in Grayson County, the daughter of the late Clarence and Anna Stinson. She was a member of the New Harvest Baptist Church. She was also a graduate of Caneyville High School. Mary Ann started working at the old IGA in Caneyville, from there she went to work at the Caneyville High School as a cook. She also was a cook at the Old War Memorial Hospital. After the hospital, she went to work at Caneyville Drugs then to Green’s IGA where she retired.
Mary Ann is survived by her 3 sons, David Brown (Sue) of Falls of Rough, Carl Brown (Robbie) of Caneyville and Earl Brown (Debbie) of Louisville; 4 grandchildren, Amber McKinley, Aaron Brown, Travis Brown and Cindy Hudson; 7 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Brown and 6 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 28th at 11:00 am at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro Jeremy Atwood will be officiating. Burial will be in the Layman Memorial Cemetery.

Charles A. Pfautz, Sr

Charles A. Pfautz Sr, 76, of Caneyville, passed away Saturday, March 28th, 2015 at Twin Lakes Regional Hospital in Leitchfield.
He was born on January 16th, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Leroy and Ruth (Weitzel) Pfautz. He attended the Rabbit Flat Baptist Church. Charles was in the United States Navy. He was a drywall finisher for 55 years. He also belonged to the Friendly Horseman’s Club in Denver, PA and had a passion for his horses and his family.
Charles is survived by his wife of almost 38 years, Barbara (Stover) Pfautz; two sons, Charles A. Pfautz Jr and John A. Pfautz (Tammy) both of PA; one step-son, Dana Demmy also of PA; one daughter, Laura Wanner of Caneyville, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Charles is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 31st at 1:00 pm at the Rabbit Flat Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Rabbit Flat Cemetery.

Bessie Rhea (Oller) Cook

Bessie Rhea Cook, 81, of Caneyville, passed away Thursday, November 5th, 2015 at the Grayson Manor Nursing Home in Leitchfield.
She was born on Sunday, November 4th, 1934 in Horse Branch, the daughter of the late Clarence and Mattie (Loney) Oller. Bessie was a member of the Wilson United Baptist Church since 1956 where she was a Sunday School teacher. She was also a homemaker and farmer.
Bessie is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Floyd Ray Cook of Caneyville; 2 sons, Tony Ray Cook (Dee Dee) of New Mexico and Ricky Lee Cook (Linda) of Pine Knob; 9 grandchildren, Alicia Rhea King of Leitchfield, Emelene Pierce (Casey) of Caneyville, Anthony Cook (Heather) of Leitchfield, Tylor Cook of New Mexico, Amanda Cook of Glasgow, Andrew Cook of Louisville, Michael Cook (Fawn) and Perry Cook (Heather) both of Caneyville and Sammy Cook of Horse Branch and 15 great-grandchildren. Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Marvin Wayne Cook; 2 brothers, CA and Richard Oller and 2 sisters, Mae Cooper and Lucille Goodrich.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 9th at 11:00 am at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro Cecil Williams will be officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Union Cemetery.

Clifford J. Crain

Clifford J. Crain, 74, of Caneyville, passed away Monday, November 16th, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on Monday, December 30th, 1940 in Grayson County, the son of Joe and Doris (Embry) Crain. Clifford was a retired commercial truck driver. He was also a member of the Caneyville Masonic Lodge 635.
Clifford is survived by his wife, Mary (Frank) Crain; their 3 children, Jackson Crain (Connie) of Indianapolis, Donna Brooks (Lloyd) of Morgantown and Roger Crain (Tammie) of Caneyville; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, JB Crain (Gladys), Joe Mitch Crain (Linda) both of Caneyville and Jerry Lee Crain (Sandy) of Indiana and two sisters, Charlotte Costella (Barry) of Georgia and Linda Dailey of Florida. He is preceded in death by his father, Joe Crain; his mother, Doris Dailey; one brother, Dennis Dailey; two sisters, Ada Richardson and Dottie Dailey and two granddaughters, Sami and Abby Brooks.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 19th at 11:00 am at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro Stanley Elmore will be officiating. Burial will be in the Frank-Embry Cemetery.

Marion E. Higgs

Marion E. Higgs, 91, of Caneyville, passed away Monday, November 16th, 2015 in Leitchfield.
He was born on Thursday, January 24th, 1924 in Caneyville, the son of the late Edney Sr and Cora (Kennedy) Higgs. Marion was a Vo-Ag teacher for over 30 years and he retired as a Lt Col from the Army Reserves after over 30 years of service. He was also a member of the Caneyville Baptist Church and loved Bluegrass music and played in The Kentucky Bluegrass Band.
He is survived by his wife, Macy Higgs; their two daughters, Deborah Bolton (Chuck) of Leitchfield and Kathy Lodge (Michael) of Heathrow, FL; two grandchildren, Jared Bolton of Nashville, TN and Christina Bolton of Jeffersonville, IN and one sister, Margaret Mudd of Caneyville. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by five brothers, Hayward, Elbert “Herman”, Kenneth, Clifton and Edney Higgs, Jr and two sisters, Elsie Wilson and Ernestine Frank.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 20th at 1:00 pm at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro Bob Sutton will be officiating. Burial will be in the Layman Memorial Cemetery.

Mary Helen (Shain) Hawkins

Mary Helen (Shain) Hawkins, 80, formerly of Millwood, passed away Tuesday, November 17th, 2015 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort, KY.
She was born on Saturday, September 21st, 1935 in Pine Knob, the daughter of the late Leo L. and Fronia (Woosley) Shain. Mary Helen was a member of the Pine Knob Primitive Baptist Church and retired from the Kentucky State Library and Archives in Frankfort.
Mary Helen is survived by her husband of more than 60 years, Charles R. Hawkins of Frankfort; one daughter, Carla Jean Hawkins of Frankfort; one son, John Eric Hawkins of Louisville; one grandson, Charles Andrew Hawkins (Renee); one great-grandson, Shawn Andrew Hawkins both of Frankfort; one brother, Isaac E. Shain (Dorothy) of Louisville and two sisters, Wilma D. Carwile of Leitchfield and Ruth Ann Blair (Joe) of Louisville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 19th at 2:00 pm at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro David Brown will be officiating. Burial will be in the Deweese Cemetery at Pine Knob.
