Sherman Embry, age 70, of Caneyville, Ky., died on Thursday, September 9, 2004 at his residence.
He was born in Grayson County on October 17, 1933 as the son of Silas and Ollie Embry. He was a member of the Pleasant Union United Baptist Church and a deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Mudd Embry; one son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Diana Embry; one daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Jammey Bryant, all of Caneyville; three sisters, Joyce Nash, Norma Baker and Betty Preston, all of Caneyville; three brothers, Damon and Herbert Embry, both of Caneyville and Charles Embry of Leitchfield. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Stacey White, Brent and Brittany Embry, Lindsay, Amy and Jessi Bryant; and one great-grandchild, Chaz Ryan White.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Lauren Christina Bryant.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 12, 2004 at the Pleasant Union United Baptist Church with Bro. Roy Miller officiating.
Burial was in the Wilson Cemetery.
Henry M. Boyd
Henry M. Boyd, age 88, died Friday, September 10, 2004 while visiting friends in California.
He had lived in Leitchfield, Elizabethtown, and Louisville, Kentucky. He was a retired salesman for Prudential Life Insurance Co., and a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife, the former Jean McCallum; two sons, Kevin and James Boyd; one stepson, Doug Peck; one stepdaughter, Karen Witten. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 18, 2004 at J.E. Ratterman & Son.
Burial was in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery in New Albany, IN.
Juanita Lynch
Juanita Lynch, age 90, of LaBelle, Fla., died Monday, September 20, 2004 in Cape Coral, Fla.
She was born March 27, 1914 in Leitchfield as the daughter of William S. Day and Mary P. Butler Day. She was a member of Short Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Short Creek, Ky.
She is survived by her daughter, Marva Pharis of LaBelle, Fla.; brothers, Carl Day of Lanesville, Ind.; J.T. Day of Louisville, Ky.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 2, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Short Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Reverend McMichael officiating. Private interment will follow at Leitchfield Memorial Gardens at a later time.
Norman L. Downs
Norman L. Downs, age 66, of Caneyville, Ky., formerly of Louisville, died Friday, October 1, 2004 at the Norton's Hospital in Louisville, Ky.
He was born May 7, 1938 in Breckinridge County as the son of Herbert and Elizabeth Ann Allen Downs. He attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at Sunfish.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Young Downs of Caneyville; two daughters, Laura (Howard) Tomes of Leitchfield and Kim (Jerry) Brewer of Indiana; one son, Brian (Karen) Downs of Caneyville; one sister, Shirley Douglas of Louisville; and one daughter-in-law, Shawn Fick of Louisville. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Downs.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Sunfish with Father Randy Howard officiating.
Burial was in the Downs Family Farm Cemetery.
Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield was in charge of the arrangements.
Della Mae Lile
Della Mae Lile, age 76, of Leitchfield, died Friday, September 24, 2004 at the Grayson Manor Nursing Home in Leitchfield.
She was born May 20, 1928 in Grayson County as the daughter of Elza and Alma McGrew Hayse. She was retired from the Kane Manufacturing Company in Leitchfield. She was a member of the Broadway Missionary Baptist Church in Leitchfield.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Sue (Miner) Ashley and Robert Kerr, both of Leitchfield; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Phillip Downs of Leitchfield, Charles Wayne Downs of Evansville, Ind., and Roland (Terry) Downs Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn; one brother, Floyd Hayse of Big Clifty, Ky.; and a very special friend, Bonnie Mickey Decker. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Mark, Bryan, Steve and Brent Ashley, Zachary, Jacob and Sara Downs, Rebecca and Dylan Kerr; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and a sister.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 27, 2004 at Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Bro. Jerry Patton officiating.
Burial was in the Clarkson Cemetery.
W. E. Collins Jr.
W. E. Collins Jr., age 75, of Leitchfield, died Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
He was born on October 14, 1928 in Grayson County as the son of William Edwin Sr. and Lillie Mae Preston Collins. He was a retired rural mail carrier, a Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Gideons, the local chapter of the Salvation Army, and was a member of the Leitchfield First General Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Henrietta Raymer Collins of Leitchfield; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kim and Darrell Harrell of Leitchfield and Yvette Collins of Elizabethtown, Ky.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Vickie Collins of North Carolina and Billy and Tracy Collins of Leitchfield; one sister, Frediah Wade of Leitchfield; and one brother, Clyde Collins of Florida. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary Wayne Collins; two brothers; and one sister.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at the Leitchfield First General Baptist Church with Bro. Rudd Kerr officiating.
Burial was in the Rabbit Flat Cemetery.
Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield was in charge of the arrangements.
