Jack D. May, 78, of Carey, Ohio, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017 at 3:22 a.m. at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay, Ohio.
Born on August 2, 1938 in Carey, he was the son of the late Curtis James and Donnie (Conley) May, Sr. Jack married
Monrovia Grimes. She preceded him in death in May, 2004 after 39 years of marriage. He is survived by his sister, Ruth J. Blanton, of Carey, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Jack was a graduate of Oil Springs High School. He was a drywaller by trade for many years. He was a veteran the U.S. Marine Corps.

1933-2017
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 26, 11 a.m., at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Lola Collins, 83, of Van Lear, who passed away Saturday, May 20 at Mountain Manor Nursing Home of Paintsville.
Ms. Collins was born Dec. 14, 1933 in Scioto County, Ohio, daughter of the late Thomas Delong and Gertrude Messer. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Edith Carver.
Surviving are three daughters, Karen Cantrell of Paintsville, Sharon Daniels of Merritt Island, Fla., and Teresa (Bano) Campbell of Banner; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by B. Joe Hill and Roger Hill, with burial to follow in the Goble cemetery at Van Lear.

John Calvin Walters II
1952-2017
John Calvin Walters II, age 64 of Hammond, died Friday May 5, 2017. John was born December 8, 1952 in Paintsville, to the late John Calvin & Betty Ward Walters. John was a veteran of the United States Army and a retired factory assembler for General Electric.
John is survived by five sisters: Rebecca Fountain of Gahanna, Ohio, Judy Huff of Dougspur, Va., Deanna Hobson of Williamsport, Rhonda Blanton of Flat Gap, and Marcia Harmon of Stanton. Also surviving are five nephews, one niece, and a host of family and friends.
Visitation was Sunday, May 7, 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Preston Funeral Home. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday May 8 in the Preston Funeral Chapel with Jimmy Price and Mike Amos officiating, with burial in the Ward/Walters cemetery at Williamsport. Military services were conducted by the Louisa VFW.

Mariam Marietta Morrison
1938-2017
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 17, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Mariam Marietta Morrison, 78, of West Van Lear, who passed away Sunday, May 14 at Salyersville Nursing & Health Care.
Mrs. Morrison was born May 27, 1938 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Earl and Elsie LeMaster Spears. She was born May 5, 1938 in Johnson County. She was owner/operator of Fire Protection Service Co. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Debra Lynn Morrison Johnson, and one son, Brian Quinn Morrison.
Surviving are her husband, Robert R. “Bob” Morrison; one son, Ronald Glenn (Debra) Morrison; one brother, Lowell Spears of Florida; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m., and up until time of service at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel.
The service will be officiated by Aaron Davis.

Nell Hamilton Jayne
1924 – 2017
Nell Jayne, age 92, of Flat Gap, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at her home.
Nell was born in Floyd County on June 7, 1924 to the late Baslis Hamilton and Flossie Hale Hamilton. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Ernest “Jim” Jayne, three brothers, Paul, Ray, and Ralph Hamilton, and one sister, Beatrice Hamilton.
She is survived by one son, John Jayne and wife Gena of Flat Gap, and two grandchildren, Johnsey Jayne and Julia Jayne.
Funeral services were conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2017 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with burial in the Jayne Family Cemetery, Rt. 1092, Flat Gap.

Shirley Mammen
1928-2017
Shirley Marie Stivers Mammen, 89, of Shelbyville, died on Sunday, the 14th day of May, 2017, at her residence. Born in Los Angeles, Calif., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Stanley and Marie Lucas Stivers. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky and worked as an interior designer. A former resident of Paintsville, she was a former member of the Paintsville Rotary Club. For many years she was the owner and operator of Lucci Kitchens and Bath Designs in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Retiring to her cabin in North Carolina, she became a published author, writing Amberstone and Return to Amberstone. At one time, painting was one of her favorite hobbies. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Mammen of Durham, N.C., her husband, Sigmond Lucci of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and her husband, Mark R. Maggard of Paintsville.
Her survivors include her sons, Jim S. Maggard and his wife, Belinda, of Paintsville, Bob M. Maggard and his wife, Bonnie of Shelbyville, and Mark A. Maggard of Grants, New Mexico; her sister, Bobbye Maggard and her husband, Bob, of Frisco, Texas; her four grandchildren, Brad Maggard and his wife, Kristi, of Lexington, Amy Maggard of Shelbyville, Adam Maggard of Louisville, and Katy Maggard also of Shelbyville; and her great-grandson, Kaden Durham of Shelbyville.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., CST, Thursday, the 18th day of May, 2017, at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Paducah, with Rev. Mike Maggard officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Paducah. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m., until 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, 17 May 2017, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, and expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the charity of the donor’s choice.
