Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 9, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Christine Stratton Blankenship, 92, of Paintsville, who passed away Wednesday, July 6 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mrs. Blankenship was born Dec. 30, 1923 in Floyd County, daughter of the late Han and Laura Gilliam Stratton. She was a retired Paintsville City School teacher.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ottis Blankenship, who passed away Oct. 30, 2012; one daughter, Amelia Blankenship McKenzie; three brothers, Floris Stratton, Otto Stratton, and Glenn Stratton; and one sister, Opal Stratton Plumley.
Surviving are one sister, Gayle Stratton Goff of Pikeville.
The service will be officiated by Mark McKenzie and Ben Wright, with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.

James Butcher Jr.
1920-2016
James Butcher Jr., 96 years of age of 309 Clay Ave., West Van Lear, took his last breath and boarded his Heavenly flight for the Gloryland at 11:05 a.m. Saturday morning, July 9, 2016, at his home.
He was born in Johnson County, son of the late Jim Butcher and Batha Ward Butcher. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Mollette Butcher, and his second wife, Betty Bryant Butcher; one daughter, Linda Sue Stradling (husband Ron); eight brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by three sons, Jimmy (LaNita Jo) Butcher of Kingman, Ariz., Roy Lee (Reba) Butcher and Dwight David (Donna) Butcher, both of Paintsville; two daughters, Patricia Ann Stambaugh of West Van Lear and Lola (Charlie) Hall of Staffordsville; one sister, Ruby of Kingman; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
James retired from General Motors of Dayton, Ohio and moved to Kingman for several years, then moved back to Johnson County in 1992.
He was saved and baptized May of 2007 and belonged to Cedar Grove United Baptist Church in West Van Lear.
James was the oldest WWII veteran in Johnson County. He was proud of his country he served and never failed to let his patriotism show, he held on to his beliefs and was firm about them. He loved to tell stories of times and people and places of long ago such as CCC Camps of Sixth St. and Whitehouse, Ky., was some of his favorite topics. He had a great memory until the day he left us. He loved music, classic cars, car racing, and traveling.
He was a good friend and neighbor to all and loved people. He was generous and kind. James was a disabled veteran and could not leave his home as often as he wished, but he enjoyed any visitor, family or friends. He was a good friend, father, grandfather, son, and brother.
Auxier Chapter 18 of the D. A. V. performed military honors at Jones-Preston Funeral Home following the funeral service.

Ronald Gregory Dunn
1945-2016
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 12, 11 a.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for Ronald Gregory Dunn, 71, of Hager Hill, who passed away Saturday at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, W. Va.
Burial was in the Centers Family cemetery at Hager Hill.

William Cecil Castle
1932-2016
William Cecil Castle of Wittensville went to be with God on July 6, 2016. Cecil was born in Lowmansville on July 15, 1932, to Lucy Daniels Castle and Leslie Castle. He was the eldest of 10 children, with five brothers and four sisters.
Cecil worked for Republic Steel for 43 years in Canton, Ohio, where he raised his family. He returned to Johnson County upon his retirement in 1994. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing and listening to Bluegrass music, working in his garden, reading, playing cards, bowling and writing music. He was a proud member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Lodge #858 and was a Kentucky Colonel. Cecil was a member of the Charley Free Will Baptist Church and was baptized in 2000.
Cecil is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy Mae Preston Castle, daughter of Arthur and Monie Preston; his son, William Leon (Toni) Castle; his daughter, Gwendolyn Castle; a brother, Dencil Castle; and a sister, Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Centers. Cecil is also survived by four granddaughters, Michelle (Randall) Maegly of Cincinnati, Ohio, Nenna (Jesse) Abrams of Berea, Cassandra (Charles) Mollette of Van Lear, Maelynn Norton of Canal Fulton, Ohio, and five great-grandchildren.
Cecil is preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Marcella Mae Castle, four brothers, three sisters, and his father and mother.
Cecil was laid to rest at the Arthur Preston cemetery Friday, July 8, 2016.

James Richard Hinkle
1941-2016
James Richard Hinkle, 75, died Monday, July 4, 2016 at his home.
Born in Jackson, he was a son of Robert Lee Hinkle, Sr and Edris Price Hinkle. He was comptroller and night auditor at the Holiday Inn on Lucas St. in Florence for many years. Mr. Hinkle was a very active member and treasurer of the Pee Dee Area Coin club, and was an avid league bowler. He was very proud of the fact that he had traveled to almost all of the National Parks in the United States. He was a member of College Park Baptist Church and Carlisle Wilson Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his son, James Kevin Hinkle of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a daughter, Dr. Kimberly Wells and her husband David Hunt, of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Donna Grey (Clayton) Hubbard of Florence; nieces, Kathy Deskins, Hila Benton, Rebecca Bailey, and Terra Stokes, whom he lovingly referred to as his daughter; nephews, Patrick Ramsey, Michael Hinkle, and David Lee Hinkle; and numerous grand and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Robert L. Hinkle, Jr. and William Lloyd Hinkle.
Burial will be held later in the family cemetery, Roscoe Davis cemetery in Paintsville.

Elzie Jack Blanton
1934-2016
Funeral services were held Monday, July 11, 11 a.m. at the Oil Springs United Baptist Church for Elzie Jack Blanton, 82, of Oil Springs, who passed away Thursday in Franklin Furnace, Ohio.
Burial was in the family cemetery at Oil Springs.

Blake Andrew Case
2008-2016
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 7, 2 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Blake Andrew Case, 7, of Lowmansville, who passed away Sunday July 3 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Blake was born Dec. 29, 2008, son of James and Amanda Honeycutt Case of Lowmansville. He was also preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Marvin Honeycutt; and his paternal grandfather, James Andy Case.
Surviving in addition to his parents are one sister, Madison Case, and one brother, Ethan Case, both of Lowmansville; his maternal grandmother, Patricia Ferguson; and his paternal grandmother, Donna Case.
The service was officiated by Joseph Hall, with burial in the Sam Sites cemetery at Boonscamp.
