On April 13, 2016, Sandra Lee passed away peacefully and gently at her home surrounded by her loving, faithful friends and her devoted son, Rudy. She gravely struggled with adult lymphoblastic leukemia for the past year and she was valiant in her efforts. A proud Kentucky woman and educator, Sandra significantly touched the lives of all she met.
A memorial service was held at Christ Church in Alexandria, Va. She will be interred in her beloved hometown, Paintsville.
Funeral services were held April 27, 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, with burial internment at the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.

Edward Meeks
1958-2016
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 29, 11 a.m. at the Coal Springs United Baptist Church, for Edward Meeks, 57, of Flat Gap, who passed away Saturday, April 23 at his residence.
Burial will follow at the Estep Family cemetery at Flat Gap.

John Paul Salyer
1934-2016
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 24, 1 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for John Paul Salyer, 82, of West Van Lear, who passed away Thursday, April 21 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mr. Johnson was born March 20, 1934 in Johnson County, son of the late Hodley and Maudie Johnson Salyer. He was also preceded in death by on son, Luke Salyer; one daughter, Tanna Meek; and two sisters, Pauline Preston and Marie Witten.
Surviving are his wife, Shelby Horn Salyer of West Van Lear; three sons, John Salyer of Florida, Mark and Matthew Salyer, both of Paintsville; two brothers, Edgell Salyer of Dayton, Ohio, and Brooksie Salyer of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
John was a United States Air Force veteran and proudly served in the Korean War. He was a retired minister and Law Enforcement Officer. In addition, he was a member of the DAV, Big Sandy Chapter 18, Auxier, Ky.
The service was officiated by Roy Penix, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.
Military Honors were conducted by the DAV, Big Sandy Chapter 18, Auxier, Ky.

Clarence Arrowood
1930-2016
Clarence “Country” Arrowood, 86, of Greenup, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Arrowood was born Jan. 14, 1930 and raised in Johnson County, a son of the late Melvin and Etta McKenzie Arrowood. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Walter, Hansel, Lawrence, Douglas, John Troy and James Harold Arrowood; three sisters: Elsie Ward, Mary Preston, and Naomi Hager; and a grandson, Jason Bradley Arrowood.
Clarence was a US Army veteran with the 109th Transportation Co., where he served in the Korean War. He was awarded several metals and received an honorable discharge. Before being drafted into the Army, he was employed by the Coca-Cola Bottle Company in Louisa. After returning from the military, he attended the Mayo Vocational School, where he received his certification as a welder. He was employed by Hinkle Contracting Corp., George Tom Williams Company; Allied Chemical Semet Solvay Coke Plant, and retired from AK Steel Coke Plant as a maintenance leader and welder after 36 years of service. He was a member and helped established the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #350 of Ashland, member of the Ironton Moose Lodge #701, past Kentucky State Commander and District Commander of VFW post #1169 in Ashland, a life member of the Ironton V.F.W. post 8850, a former trustee for the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Ashland, member of American Legion post 76 in Ashland, an honorary member of the military order of the cooties, the DAV, Commanders Club Bronze Leader, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the former Auxiliary Ashland Police, an avid gun collector and a member of the American Rifle Association. He was a pitcher for the Paintsville Baseball Team, where he held a record for pitching 23 strikeouts in a game. He was also a pitcher for the Semet Solvay fast pitch baseball team. He was a faithful and loyal donor for multiple charities, especially ones for veterans, children, and the Kentucky State Police.
He will be remembered for his outgoing personality, story telling, jokes and witty character, but above all the love for his family and accepting the Lord as his Savior. He was of the Baptist Faith.
He will be sadly missed by his family that he enjoyed spending time with.
He is survived by his son: Billy Ray Arrowood and his wife Robin of Cynthiana; a daughter, Connie Lynn Arrowood of Flatwoods, that resided with and cared for during his long illness until his passing. He is also survived by two grandchildren: Todd Wesley Arrowood and his wife Sandy Carper Arrowood, and Christina Lynne Withers; four grandchildren: Hunter Bradley Arrowood, Autumn Grace Arrowood, Shelby Lynne Withers, and Chelsea Ann Withers. He is also survived by a special friend and caregiver, Raymond Black of Greenup, and several special nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, with Minister J. R. Gullett officiating. Entombment will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods. The pallbearers for Mr. Arrowood will be Billy Ray Arrowood, Todd Wesley Arrowood, Hunter Bradley Arrowood, Raymond Black, Danny Ward, and Johnny Hager. Military Rites will be performed by the US Army Honor Guard and the Greenbo Detachment of the Marine Corps League.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 26, 11 a.m. at the Van Lear Enterprise Baptist Church for Randall Lee VanHoose, 47, of Paintsville, who passed away Saturday, April 23, at his residence.
Burial was in the Lakeview cemetery at Staffordsville.

Adam Keith ‘Boo’ Lemaster
2008-2016
Funeral services were held Monday, April 18, 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Adam Keith “Boo” Lemaster, 8, of Flat Gap, who passed away Thursday, April 14 at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Adams was born Feb. 23, 2008 in Johnson County, son of Adam Blake and Keisha Brooke Hall Lemaster of Flat Gap. He was a member of the Tutor Key Community Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandmother, Norma Curtis; maternal grandfather, Keith Hall; and paternal great-grandfather, Willis Lemaster.
Surviving in addition to his parents are maternal grandparents, Paul and Lenna Reed Hannah of Flat Gap; paternal grandparents, Jimmy and Mary Curtis Lemaster of Flat Gap; maternal great-grandparents, Howard and Carol Reed of Paintsville; paternal great-grandfather, Robert Curtis of Flat Gap; two aunts, Summer Williams of Flat Gap, and Lakin Hall of Michigan; two uncles, J. R. Lemaster and Joshua Hall, both of Flat Gap; and a host of other family member of many friends.
The service was officiated by Arthur Scarberry and Jason Auxier, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.
