Funeral services were held Sunday, May 1, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Genevieve McCarty, 83, of Oil Springs who passed away Thursday, April 28 at her residence.
Mrs. McCarty was born July 11, 1932 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Walter and Emma Blanton Curtis. She was a hairdresser. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Long and Elouise Curtis; and one great-great-grandchild, Darrick Ryan Haywood.
Surviving are her husband, Jimmie Dorton McCarty of Oil Springs; two daughters, Jewell (Sam) Reed, and Wanda Jean (James) Preston, all of Oil Springs; one brother, Walter (Pam) Curtis Jr. of Tutor Key; one sister, Edith Carol (Ray) McCarty of Oil Springs; one brother-in-law, Knawha Long; four grandchildren, Dianna (Bobby) Reed, James Darrick (Donna) Preston, Laura (Shawn) Castle, and Guthrey Dwayne (Andi) Preston; 11 great-grandchildren, Joshua (Emily) Reed, Ashley Paige (Kyle) Sublett, Whitney Bleue (Mason) Haywood, Jimmy Preston, Jordan Young, Alex Castle, Nick Castle, Rebecca Preston, Lauren Preston, Alaina Castle, and Dylan Preston; three great-great-grandchildren, Austin Haywood Mykah Reed and Kyleigh Paige Sublett.
The service was officiated by Elders Frankie Blevins and Ray McCarty, with burial in the Jimmie D, and Genevieve McCarty Family cemetery at Oil Springs.

Dr. Joe Conley
1927-2016
Dr. Joe Conley, 88, of Paintsville, went to be with the Lord the morning of April 22, 2016. A native of Paintsville, Dr. Conley was an active member of the community where he touched the lives of everyone he met with his kind humor and loving presence.
Dr. Conley was a veteran of World War II during which he served as a Medical-Surgical Technician in the U. S. Army. A graduate of Western Kentucky University, Dr. Conley went on to graduate from Southern School of Optometry in 1957 and was a lifetime member of the Kentucky Optometric Association. He practiced optometry in his hometown of Paintsville for nearly 60 years, continuing to care for patients until the time of his passing.
He was married
to Jerry Daniels Conley in 1956 and had one child, Pam Conley Wright. Dr. Conley was an active member of First Baptist Church in Paintsville for almost 60 years, where he proudly served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Dr. Conley’s life revolved around being a devoted husband, a caring father, and being actively involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene F. and Mable Rice Conley, and by his brothers, Franklin P. Conley and Thomas Baldwin.
He is survived by his wife, Jerry; his daughter, Pam C. (Forrest) Wright; his brother, David Conley; two grandchildren Matthew (Christy) Wright and Emily Wright; and two great-grandchildren, Carter Lee Wright, and Conley James Wright.
Dr. Conley will be remembered as an exceptionally strong, humble man of God who exemplified Christ through his love for his family, his church, and his life’s work.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 26, 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.

Herman Ray Skaggs
1935-2016
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 30, 1 p.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home for Herman Ray Skaggs, 80, formerly of Terryville, who passed away Tuesday, April 26 at his residence in Flat Gap.
Mr. Skaggs was the son of the late Isaac and Louisa Skaggs. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 28 years, Aileen Fannin; five siblings, Ford, Foster (Dean), Furl (Peggy), Ivory (Goble), Luther (Clotine); and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Maynard.
Herman left Kentucky in 1952 to work at Inland Steel in East Chicago, Ind., where he retired from the 80” hot strip as Maintenance Supervisor. After 31 years he returned to Kentucky.
He was a member of the Red Bush Enterprise Church, where he served as Clerk and Treasurer for 17 years. He was also a Master Mason at the Elk Fork Lodge. He had also achieved his 32nd Degree Scottish Rite in South Bend, Ind., and was a certified Kentucky Colonel. Herman was a God loving man, who loved his family, friends and life. He enjoyed playing his banjo with the gospel group Friends for Jesus. Also in his earlier years he also played with the Gospel Jewels.
Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Phyllis (Risby-Ison) Skaggs; one sister, Esta Kelly; one son, Phil (Sylvia) Skaggs; two daughters, Susie (Roger) Maynard and Jana (Steve) Chaney; six grandchildren, Brandon Maynard, Phillip Skaggs Jr., Timothy Skaggs, Brittany (Maynard) Robbins, Cameron Chaney, Cody Chaney; five great-grandchildren, Isaac, Kalei and Hunter Maynard, Julie and Allison Robbins; a host of nieces and nephews who he love dearly; and his loyal companion, Max the Border Collie.
Visitation will be Friday, April 20, 1-9 p.m. at the funeral home and until time of service on Saturday.
A Masonic service will be Friday, 7 p.m. in the chapel.
The service will be officiated by the Revs. James Wallin, Bob Williams, and Chris Baldwin, with burial to follow in the Hutchinson Family cemetery in Elliot County.
The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Red Bush Enterprise Baptist Church.

Ricky Lemaster
1955-2016
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 1, 2 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Ricky Lemaster, 61, of Prestonsburg, formerly of Staffordsville, who passed away Thursday, April 28 at Pikeville Medical Center.
Burial was in the family cemetery at Auxier.

Roy Michael Burns
1969-2016
Roy Michael Burns was born Aug. 5, 1969 at the old Paintsville Hospital in Paintsville and departed this life on April 20, 2016 in North Canton, Ohio.
He is survived by his beloved family; his wife, Tonya Goforth Burns; his daughter, Alexandra Paige Burns; his father and mother, Roy Lee and Nancy Daniel Burns of Nippa; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lonnie and Karen Goforth of East Burnstat. He is also survived by three uncles, Bill Daniel and his wife, Barbara of Paintsville, John Daniel of Cathedral City, Ca., and Corbett Burns of Nippa; one aunt, Magdalene Burns of Harrodsburg; and several special cousins, aunts and uncles, as well as many other relatives.
He had a very special friend, Steve Burgess, who was like a brother to him.
Michael was preceded in death by two brothers, Mark and Aaron Burns; and his grandparents, Carl and Virgie Bolden Burns and Homer and Irene Meek Daniel.
He graduated with honors from Johnson Central High School, Class of 1987 and Big Sandy Community and Technical College. He worked in the gas and oil industry for The Enserca Land Services.
Michael was so loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by his beloved family, friends and co-workers.
Burial was in the A.R. Dyche Memorial Park in London.

Ruby Lee Blanton
1927-2016
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 29, 11 a.m. at the Staffordsville Free Will Baptist Church for Ruby Lee Blanton, 88, of Staffordsville, who passed away Tuesday, April 26 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mrs. Blanton was born Nov. 14, 1927 in Johnson County, daughter of the late George Clinton and Martha Williams Meade. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oakley Blanton, Dec. 11, 2014; one son, Scottie Lee Blanton, along with several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are one son, Tim Blanton of Burkesville; four grandchildren, Sammy (Chrissy Baldridge) Blanton, Megan Litteral, Timothy A. Blanton, Kailey Blanton; and four great-grandchildren, Lauren Paige Blanton, Braylan Reece Caudill, Joe Baldridge, and Sierra Baldridge.
The service will be officiated by John Michael Blanton, Toby Wheeler and Ronnie Spriggs, with burial to follow in the Staffordsville Church Cemetery.

Debra Lynn Johnson
1955-2016
Funeral services were held Friday, April 29, 2 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Debra Lynn Johnson, 60, of Shelbyville, who passed away Tuesday, April 26 at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville.
Mrs. Johnson was born Nov. 26, 1955 in Johnson County, daughter of Gene Davis and Anna Potter Davis, both of Thelma. She was a Human Resource Manager.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, David Lane of Shelbyville; two brothers, Gene Davis of Nashville, and Paul Davis of Richmond; one sister, Jeannie Swant of Manchester, Tenn.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The service was officiated by Jim Wheeler, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.
