Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 12, 3 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Donna Sue Hurt Webb, 69, of Hager Hill, who passed away Sunday, Sept. 8 at her residence.
Mrs. Webb was born Jan. 5, 1944 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Arthur Slone and Nellie Hurt.
Surviving are one son, Charles Hurt of Hager Hill; one daughter, Audra Crace of Flat Gap; two brothers, Ernest Hurt Jr. of Paintsville, and Donald Puckett of Meally; two sisters, Virginia Hurt of Paintsville and Doris Kestner of Nicholasville; and seven grandchildren.

Herbert J. Stapleton Jr.
1946-2013
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 11, 2 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Herbert Joseph Stapleton Jr., 67, of Staffordsville, who passed away Monday, Oct. 7, at his residence.
Mr. Stapleton was born Aug. 6, 1946 in Logan, W. Va., son of Minnie Osborn Stapleton of Lexington, and the late Herbert Joseph Stapleton Sr. He was a mining electrical engineer.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Mace Stapleton of Staffordsville; two sons, Herbert Joseph Stapleton III of Bridgeport, W. Va., and Christopher Alvin Stapleton of Nashville, Tenn.; one daughter, Melanie Brooke Stapleton of Lexington; one brother, Thomas Stapleton of Quebec, Canada; two sisters, Janet Mays and Sue Potter, both of Lexington; and five grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Tobe Wheeler and Youel Altizer, with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.

Howard Blair
1930-2013
Private services will be held at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, Ohio, for Howard Blair, 82, of Alvada, Ohio, who passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Fox Run, Findlay, Ohio.
Mr. Blair was born Oct. 29, 1930 at Collista, son of the late Cyrus and Malta May Blair. He was retired from General Motors in Dayton, Ohio.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Dem-art, Cyrus Jr., and Amos Blair; and one sister, Alene Kessler.
Surviving are two adopted sons, David Blair of Fairborn, Ohio, and Danny Blair; two sisters, Martha Jean Caudill of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and Frances E. Tanner, of Vanlue, Ohio; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Spring Grove cemetery at Carey.

Gary Neal Knight
1934-2013
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 7, 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Paintsville, for Gary Neal Knight, 79, of Paintsville, who passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2 at his residence.
Mr. Knight was born May 12, 1934 in Letcher County, son of the late Olen Albert and Willa Mae Knight. He was a graduate of Paintsville High School, Morehead University, and a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a teacher and a coach at Paintsville High School and a 2013 inductee into the Paintsville Sports Hall of Fame. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Honorable Judge James A. Knight, and Harold Knight; and one nephew, Gary Olen Knight.
Surviving are one daughter, Susan Raye Knight (Cecil Eugene II) Cyrus of Paintsville; one brother, Wendell Ray Knight of Paintsville; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
The service was officiated by Wayne Cornett, with internment at the Highland Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville.

Charley J. Rice
1927-2013
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, 2 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for retired Master SGT. Charley J. Rice, 87, of Wittensville, who passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville.
Mr. Rice was born Oct. 2, 1927 in Johnson County, son of the late Charlie and Wannie Mae Osborne Rice. He was a retired Air Force Master SGT. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Surviving are two brothers, James and Wilbur Rice, both of Ohio.
Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 11, 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 12 after 9 a.m. until time of service.
The service will be officiated by David Keith Castle, with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
Edna Earle Griffith McKenzie
1927-2013
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 5, 2 p.m. at the Toms Creek Free Will Baptist Church for Edna Earle Griffith McKenzie, 86, of Staffordsville, who passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2.
Mrs. McKenzie was born Sept. 21, 1927 at Hager Hill, daughter of the late Morton and Nancy Blair Griffith. She had been a sales clerk with G. C. Murphy.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Wade McKenzie.
Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Keeton of West Liberty, Connie Scarberry of Nippa, and Cathie Hall of Staffordsville; one sister, Lillian Gullett of Hager Hill; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Jim McKenzie and James Kelly Caudill, with burial in the Highland Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville.

Howard Sparks
1916-2013
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Howard Sparks, 97, of Paintsville, who passed away Sunday, Oct. 6.
Mr. Sparks was born Sept. 11, 1916 in Johnson County, son of the late Olma Blossom Sparks and Sarah Hattie Castle Sparks. He was a long-time director of the Salvation Army. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Laura Wells Sparks; two brothers, Richard Elwood Sparks and Dr. Olma Demra Sparks; and one sister, Anna Laurie Sparks Colvin.
Surviving are one daughter, Sally Sparks (Alan Warren) Siegel of Hager Hill; one son, Howard Leslie (Deborah Lynn Hicks) Sparks of Frankfort; three sisters, Dorothy Catherine Bradley of Kenova, W. Va., Elizabeth Darlene Preston of Canton, Ohio, and Virginia Sue Estep of Lincoln, Ill.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 9, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., and Thursday after 9 a.m. until time of service.
Masonic rites will be conducted by the Van Lear Masonic Lodge #885 at 7 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel.
The Auxier Chapter 18 of the D. A. V. will perform military honors.
Burial will follow in the Richmond cemetery on Rt. 40, Paintsville.

Bobby Gale Hayton

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 5, 2 p.m. at the Free Pentecostal Church of God for Bobby Gale Hayton, 62, of Stambaugh, who passed away Thursday, Oct. 3.
Mr. Hayton was born Sept. 12, 1951 in Pikeville, son of the late Delmon and Gustavia Thacker Hayton. He was a heating/air installer for Kern’s.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Little Hayton; two sons, Kevin Hayton of Boonsville, and Anthony Hayton of Stambaugh; four daughters, Kimberly Scott of Sitka, Heather Ray of Stambaugh and Melinda Frazier and Stephanie Blevins, both of Paintsville; three brothers, Buster Hayton of East Point, Larry Hayton of Prestonsburg, and Michael Hayton of Van Lear; two sisters, Janet Crum of Prestonsburg, and Patricia Little of Jackson; and seven grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Joshua Hayton and Matthew Craft, with burial in the Gethsemane cemetery at Prestonsburg.
