Alvin Akers, 78, of LaGrange, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Alvin was born July 9, 1935 in Van Lear, a son of the late Marvin and Evalena Delong Akers.
Following his graduation from Paintsville High School, Alvin attended the University of Kentucky on an engineering scholarship. In 1956 he began a forty year career with the General Electric Company in Louisville. During his career with G. E., Alvin received three patents and earned several managements awards. After his retirement from G. E. as a Design Engineer, Alvin spent two years as a consultant for G. E. and the Electric Insurance Company.
Alvin previously served as Scout Master and Cub Master for the Jeffersontown Boy Scout and Cub Scout troop. He received a Scouting President’s Award. Alvin also previously managed the Jeffersontown Little League and served on the Little League Board of Directors for eight years. He was statistician for the Jeffersontown High School Varsity and Jr. Varsity basketball teams for five years. He also coached the Optimist Basketball teams for several years. Alvin was a member of the LaGrange Christian Church, LaGrange.
Alvin enjoyed boating, fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family members whom he loved dearly.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella Webb Akers; a son, Michael Akers and his wife, Mary; a daughter, Janice Carol Searing; a grandson, Robert III and his wife, Lindsay; four granddaughters, Chrissy of Madison, Wis., Rebecca, Victoria, and Laura, all of Milwaukee, Wis.; one great-grandson, Robert IV of Cincinnati, Ohio; and one brother, Albert and his wife, Carol, of Owingsville.
Alvin was pre-deceased by his first wife of fifty-five years, Wanda Jean Woods Akers; and one brother, Gaylord Akers.
Visitation for Alvin will be Friday, Sept. 13, from 4-8 p.m. at Ratterman & Son Funeral Home, 10600 Taylorsville Road, Jeffersontown, and will continue on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home followed by burial in the Jeffersontown Cemetery.

Donovan Lee Floyd
2002-2013
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 12, 11 a.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Donovan Lee Floyd, 10, of Paintsville, who passed away Monday, Sept. 9.
He was born Oct. 3, 2002 in Ludington, Mich., son of Delbert Gilbert and Julie Jones.
Surviving in addition to his parents are three brothers, Junior Jones of Michigan, and Delmer and Preston Gilbert of Paintsville; one sister, Destini Floyd of Michigan; maternal grandparents, Jackie and Darla Dean of Flat Gap; paternal grandmother, Kathy Gilbert of Morehead; and maternal great-grandfather, Roy McConnell of Prestonsburg.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11, 6-9 p.m. at the chapel.
The service will be officiated by Travis Tackett, with burial in to follow in the Easterling cemetery at Olive Hill.

Paula Noreen McConnell
1955-2013
Paula Noreen McConnell, 57, of Prestonsburg, passed away Friday, Sept. 6 in Prestonsburg.
Ms. McConnell was born Sept. 21, 1955 in Cadillac, Mich., daughter of Roy McConnell and the late Betty Wallace McConnell.
Surviving are one son, Adam Kinder of Prestonsburg; one brother, Roy McConnell of Paintsville; and three sisters, Darla Dean of Paintsville, Charla Prust of Morehead, and Karla McConnell of Prestonsburg.

Rebecca Jane Meek
1945-2013
Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 8, 2 p.m. at the Concord United Baptist Church at Thelma, for Rebecca Jane Meek, 67, of Boons Camp, who passed away Friday, Sept. 6 at her residence.
Mrs. Meek was born Nov. 14, 1945 in Floyd County, daughter of the late Leonard and Dorothy Holbrook Childers. She was a nurse with Johnson County Schools. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Russell Meek Sr.; one son Paul Russell Meek II; and one brother, Charles Childers.
Surviving are two daughters, Deidre Meek of Louisville, and Alicha Burchett of Boons Camp; two sisters, Dottie Meek of Hager Hill, and Marsha Childers of Paintsville; and five grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Dewey Mac Mullins and Terry Preston, with burial in the Childers Family cemetery at Thelma.

William Perciful
1942-2013
William Perciful, 70, of Flat Gap, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10.
He was a U. S. Army veteran and a bar tender in Reno. Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Florence Hensley Perciful.
Surviving are one brother, James Perciful on Flat Gap; and one sister, Janet Dengel of Omak, Wash.

Barbara Sue Williamson
1937-2013
Funeral services will be held September 6, 1 p.m. at the Staffordsville Free Will Baptist Church for Barbara Sue Williamson, 76, of Boonscamp, who passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3 at her residence.
Mrs. Williamson was born April 25, 1937 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Russell and Clara Belle Branham Ward. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude Williamson; three brothers, Alfred Ward, Robert Ward and Michael Price. She was a member of the Staffordsville Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Randy Pack of California and Keith Pack of Offutt; two brothers, Howard Leslie Ward of Arcadia, Fla., and James Price of Boonscamp; two sisters, Julie Ward of Meally, and Judy Holbrook of Paintsville; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Jimmy Price, Gary Lafferty and Wendell Ison, with burial to follow in the Holbrook Family cemetery on Davis Branch.

John Thomas Arms
1942-2013
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, 10:30 a.m. at the Sujkowski Funeral Home in Rossford, Ohio, for John Thomas Arms, 70, of Perrysburg, Ohio, who passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4.
Mr. Arms was born Sept. 17, 1942 at Kerz, son of the late Hershel and Jessie Jones Arms. He was a truck driver for Edward C. Levy; a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; and attended Calvary Church. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Curtice Ray and Douglas Arms.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy Ann Ferguson Arms; three daughters, Beverly (Don) Bunch, Margaret Garland, and Regina (David) Miller; one sister, Judee Arms Spears; eight grandchildren and and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 6, 2-8 p.m.
The service will be officiated by Pastor Chad Gilligan, with interment at the Ft. Meigs cemetery at Perrysburg.

Martha E. Smith
1937-2013
Memorial services will be held at a later date for Martha E. Smith, 76, of Hagerhill, who passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4 at her residence.
Mrs. Smith was born April 14, 1937 in Oak Hill, W. Va., daughter of the late Charles and Leoda Pennington Treadway. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Smith Sr.; and two brothers, Charles and Howard Treadway.
Surviving are one son, Jerome Smith Jr. of Oak Hill; two daughters, Sherry (Herbie) Bray of Columbia, Tenn.. and Barbara (David) Banninger of Hazel Park, Mich.; two sisters, Alice Withrow of Barberton, Ohio, and Bonnie Keene of Pikeville; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
