A celebration of life was held Saturday, April 13, 2:30 p.m. at the Broadway Baptist Church in Lexington, for C. “Hoge” Hockensmith Jr., 87, of Wilmore, who passed away Wednesday, April 10.
Mr. Hockensmith was born July 10, 1925 and raised in Irvine. He was a U. S. Navy WWII veteran as a medical corpsman; majored in law at the University of Kentucky; a minister in Eastern Kentucky; and he had a radio broadcast, “Joy in the Morning”.
Surviving are his wife, Nora Lee Johnson Hockensmith of Irvine; one son, Charles P. Hockensmith Sr. of Monroe Twp., N. J.; two daughters, Janette (Homer) Reeves of Greenville, S. C., and Sarah (Glenn) Perry of Lexington; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Lula Belle Conley
1940-2013
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 16, 1 p.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for Lula Belle Conley, 73, of Oil Springs, who passed away Sunday, April 14 at her residence.
Mrs. Conley was born April 13, 1940 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Bryan and Ruie Blanton Cantrell. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are two sons, Anthony (Stephanie) Conley of Oil Springs, and Marcus (Amy) Conley of Staffordsville; two daughters, Shelia Conley of Oil Springs, and Julie (Travis) Tackett of Sitka; three sisters, Cheryl Collinsworth of Salyersville, Loretta Russell of Oil Springs, and Flossie Wheeler of Blaine; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Chad Blair, Ronnie Spriggs, and Brad Kimbler, with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.

Rosemary Tucker Mullins
1944-2013
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 14, 11 a.m. at the Moores Chapel Free Will Baptist Church at McRoberts, for Rosemary Tucker Mullins, 69, of Whitesburg, who passed away Friday, April 12 at Whitesburg Area Regional Hospital in Whitesburg.
Mrs. Mullins was born January 11, 1944 in Baltimore, Md., daughter of the late Emory Tucker Jr. and Mildred Phillips Jabroski. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Robin Hayes. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are two daughters, Carla Rose Williams of Paintsville and Kimberly Ann Mullins of Deane; three brothers, Tony Tucker of South Carolina, Tommy Tucker of Harlan, and Johnny Jabroski of Lawrenceburg; two sisters, Teresa Fleming of Burdine, and Connie Holmes of Keokee, Va.; one grandson, and special friend Gearlene Grimm.
The service was officiated by Bobby Fleming and Danny Hurst, with burial in the Hughes Family cemetery at Deane.

Ulysus C. Horne
1926-2013
Funeral services were held Monday, April 15, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Ulysus C. Horne, 86, of Staffordsville, who passed away Saturday, April 13 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mr. Horne was born August 25, 1926 in Johnson County, son of the late Earl and Hazel Blair Horne. He was an educational supervisor in Floyd County. He was also preceded in death by one brother, James Thomas Horne; and two sisters, Ivalu Horne Colvin and Audrey Horne Rowland.
Surviving are one brother, Larry Randall Horne of Florida; and nieces and nephews.
The service was officiated by Rick Baldwin and Phillip Caudill, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.

Katherine Sue Daniel
1951-2013
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 17, 11 a.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Katherine Sue Daniel, 62, of River, who passed away Saturday, Sept. 14.
Mrs. Daniel was born July 21, 1951 in Paintsville, daughter of Douglas Borders and the late Wilma Faye Preston Borders. She was a family support worker with the Johnson County Health Department; and attended Toms Creek Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her father are her husband, Luther A. Daniel of River; two daughters, Kathy Lynn Simpson of Blaine and Rebecca Sue Caudill of Stambaugh; two brothers, Douglas and Barry Borders, both of River; and three grandchildren.
The service was officiated by James Kelly Caudill, with burial in the Lakeview Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville.

John Martin Wheeler Sr.
1925-2013
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 12, 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, for John Martin Wheeler Sr., 88, of Paintsville, who passed away Sunday, Sept. 8 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mr. Wheeler was born March 4, 1925 at Winfred, son of the late William Franklin and Mary Elizabeth Fairchild Wheeler. He was a retired salesman with Big Sandy Hardware. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Jones Wheeler.
Surviving are his wife, Lenora Daniel Wheeler of Paintsville; two sons, Joseph F. (Susan) Wheeler of Fairfax, Va., and John Martin (Ming) Wheeler Jr. of Illinois; one daughter Peggy Wheeler of Lowmansville; one step-son, John Johnson of Austin, Texas; three step-daughters, Cheryl Arms of Hager Hill, Nellie Bowen of Flat Gap, and Alma Osborne of East Point; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Kevin Spurlock, Glen Kirk, James Woods and Ronald Damron.

Jimmie Russell Carroll

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 14, 12 p.m. at the First Christian Church for Jimmie Russell Carroll, 70, of Paintsville, who passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11 at his residence.
Mr. Carroll was born Feb. 24, 1943 in Paintsville, son of the late James “Red” and Vertrice Brown Carroll. He was a U. S. Navy veteran, a deacon of the First Christian Church, and a retired salesman in the mining industry.
Surviving are his wife, Patty Copley Carroll; one son, John L (Shannan) Carroll of Lexington; one sister, Gloria (Robert) Wiley of Danville; and one granddaughter.
The service was officiated by Wes Stedtefeld, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.

Hattie Stapleton Rice
1918-2013
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 12, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Hattie Stapleton Rice, 95, of Dayton, Ohio, who passed away Sunday, Sept. 8 at her residence.
Mrs. Rice was born Sept. 3, 1918 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Marion and Minnie Cooper Stapleton. She had been a factory worker with General Motors. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Rice; and three sisters, Marie Rice, and Bessie and Mary Grace Spears.
Surviving are one son, Gary W. (Susan) Rice of Tipp City, Ohio; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Ronnie Spriggs, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
