Memorial services will be held Monday, Feb. 13, 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Ailene Goble Alred, 76, of Paintsville, who passed away Monday, Feb. 6 at Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
Mrs. Alred was born Feb. 16, 1935 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Ben and Manchie Robinson Goble.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald K. Goble of Thealka and Doug Roy of Georgia; two daughters, Patricia McQueen and Brenda Roberts, both of Landers, Calif., one brother, Buddy Goble of Hager Hill; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Roger Hill, with burial in the Goble cemetery at Hager Hill.

Charlie Blair
1942-2012
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21, 11 a.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Charlie Blair, 69, of Staffordsville, who passed away Wednesday, April 17 at Pikeville Medical Center.
Mr. Blair was born Aug. 17, 1942 in Johnson County, son of the late Curtis Blair and Bethia Webb. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Curtis Blair Jr.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn May Blair of Staffordsville; three daughters, Melinda Casey of Staffordsville, Melissa Faye Blair of Williamsport, and Shauna Rene Bowling of Georgetown; three sisters, Eunice Fairchild and Elizabeth Martin, both of Staffordsville, and Loretta Blair of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Friday, April 20 all day until 10 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

John William LeMaster
1926-2012
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 10, noon, at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington, for John William Lemaster, 85, of Lexington, who passed away Friday, April 6. Mr. Lemaster was born Aug. 25, 1926, in Johnson County, raised at Barnetts Creek, son of the late Alfred and Jencie LeMaster. He was retired from the U. S. Government Intelligence Service; a Kentucky Colonel; a member of the Disabled American WWII veterans; a member of the First United Methodist Church; and a graduate of Oil Springs High School. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Kitty Reed and Alporetta Blanton. Surviving are his wife, Mary T. LeMaster of Lexington; two daughters, Sherry (John) LeMaster-Riddle of St. Louis, Mo., and Ann (Randy) Williams of Greensboro, N. C.; one son, Dr. John P. LeMaster of High Point, N. C.; one sister, Avonelle Casto of Springfield, Ohio; two brothers, Charles LeMaster of Houston, Texas and Howard LeMaster of Leander, Texas; and one grandson. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of the Milward Funeral Directors of Lexington.
Bobby A. Wells

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 13, 12 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Bobby A. Wells, 75, of Van Lear, who passed away Saturday, April 14 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville. Mr. Wells was born April 15, 1936 in Johnson County, son of the late Tommy and Thelma Hyden Wells. He was also preceded in death by one son, Jeff Wells. Surviving are his wife, Wanda VanHoose Wells of Van Lear; one brother, Benjamin T. Wells of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Monie R. Castle Baldwin of Paintsville, and Verronda K. Castle of Van Lear; four sisters, Anna Ruth Bowling of Hager Hill, Wanda Faye Stanford of Ohio, Doris Sue Robinson of Summerville, Ohio, and Glenda Hill of London; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Charolette Caldwell

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 15, 2 p.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Charolette Caldwell, 38, of West Van Lear, who passed away Wednesday, April 12 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville. Ms. Caldwell was born Aug. 21, 1973 in Paintsville, daughter of Frankie and Wanda Scarberry Caldwell. Surviving are one son, Sean Clayton Caldwell of Wittensville; three step-sons, Mark Blankenship Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, and Charles and Ian Blankenship, both of West Van Lear; one daughter, Gabrielle Blankenship of West Van Lear; four step-daughters, Nicole Blankenship and Joann Cunningham, both of Columbus, Heidi Blankenship of Indianapolis, Ind., and Sara Blankenship of Van Lear; two brothers, Frankie Allen Caldwell of Paintsville, and Earl Lee Caldwell of Nippa; two sisters, Sharon May of Chatteroy, W. Va., and Susie Caldwell of Louisville; and nine grandchildren. The service was officiated by Jimmy Jennings, with burial in the Scarberry cemetery at Nippa. Gertrude Bowen

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2 p.m. at the Hager Hill Free Will Baptist Church for Gertrude Bowen, 83, of Van Lear, who passed away Saturday, April 14 at Mountain Manor Nursing Home in Paintsville.
Mrs. Bowen was born Sept. 16, 1928 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Lonnie and Lavada Franklin Gullett.
She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Bowen; and twin sister, Virginia Glidewell.
The service will be officiated by the Rev. Ronnie Spriggs, with burial following in the Davis-Gullett cemetery at Hager Hill. Arrangements under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home of Paintsville.
Milton “Cootie” Preece
1928-2012
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 19, 1 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Milton “Cootie” Preece, 83, of Inez, who passed away Tuesday, April 17 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa. Mr. Preece was born Oct. 31, 1928 in Martin County, son of the late Basil and Roxie Goble Preece. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Matt and Rudolph Preece; and three sisters, Tilda Moore, Lushie McGinnis and Alice Haney. Surviving are one brother, Lucian “Bear” Preece of Lovely; and three sisters, Margie Preece, Nannie Endicott, and Wilda Preece, all of Inez. Visitation will be all day Wednesday, April 18. The service will be officiated by Bobby Moore, with burial in the Goble cemetery at Debord.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 17, 1 p.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Roger Lee VanHoose, 65, of River, who passed away Saturday, April 14, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville. Mr. VanHoose was born May 22, 1946, at River, son of Verlie Wheeler VanHoose and the late Luther VanHoose. He was a CSX maintenance worker. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jennifer Mollette VanHoose. Surviving are one brother, David VanHoose of Paintsville; and one sister, Gwen Travis of Hager Hill. The service was officiated by Gordon Ward, with burial in the Castle cemetery at Offutt. Arrangements under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.
Sam Hicks Jr.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 19, 2 p.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for Sam Hicks Jr., 47, of Sitka, who passed away Monday, April 16 at his residence. Mr. Hicks was born Sept. 22, 1964 in Paintsville, son of Sam Hicks Sr. of Paintsville and Leah Harris Franklin of Prestonsburg. He was an auto parts manager. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Michael Joe Hicks. Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers, Jeff Franklin of Prestonsburg, and Matthew H. Hicks of Paintsville; and step-mother, Deloris Hicks.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., and Thursday, April 19, 9 a.m. until time of service. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Mrs. Maynard was born Nov. 15, 1953 at Davella, daughter of Rella Howard Preston and the late Willie Preston. She was also preceded in death by one brother, David Preston; and one sister, Cora Faye Jude. Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Jim Maynard of Tomahawk; two daughters, Rita Faye (Maurice) Mills, and Janet (Charles) Preece; and one son, James (Libby) Maynard, all of Tomahawk; four brothers, Jimmy (Susie) Preston of Debord, Johnny (Rhonda) Preston, Jackie (Paula) Preston and Billy Preston, all of Tomahawk; three sisters, Gertrude (Bobbie) Sparks of Louisa, Clestine (Richard Jr.)Maynard of Denver, and Maggie (Shelby) Moore of Pilgrim; step-father, Winford Amburgey; two step-brothers, Adrian (Joji) Amburgey of Terre Haute, Ind., and Roger (Karen) Amburgey of Knott Co.; one step-sister, Susan Lowden of Oregon; and six grandchildren. June Bell Reed

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 13, 1 p.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for June Bell Reed, 63, of Paintsville, who passed away Tuesday, April 10 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
Mrs. Reed was born June 24, 1948 in Fredricksburg, Va., daughter of the late William Henry and Hilda Payne. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband, George Reed of Paintsville; one son, Robert Reed; and two daughters, Georgianna Bowling and Rebecca Goble, all of Paintsville; one brother, Jesse Payne of Virginia; and two grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by the Rev. Larry Blair, with burial following in the Johnson County Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville.

Janet Diane Ruth Majakey

Memorial services will be held Sunday, April 15, 2:30 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Wittensville, for Janet Diane Ruth Majakey, 80, formerly of Paintsville, who passed away March 1 in Daniels, W.Va.
Ms. Majakey was born Sept. 17, 1931 in Paintsville, daughter of the late Wilma Dalzell and James Ruth.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Lee Majakey of Lexington, and Bill Majakey of Daniels; five granddaughters, Meredith Sleight, Lauren, Erin, Katie and Maleah Majakey; one great-granddaughter, Ella Sleight; and one great-grandson, Thomas Sleight.
