Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 16, 1 p.m. at the Sidney Old Regular Baptist Church for Billy Joe Collins, 49, of Pilgrim, who passed away Monday, Feb. 13 at Varney.
Mr. Collins was born May 3, 1962 in Martin County, son of Madgie Jude Collins of Pilgrim and the late Elijah Collins.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Donna Kay Collins.
Surviving in addition to his mother are one son, Randy Smith of Newcomer, Ohio; four brothers, Andy and Charles (Theresa) Collins, and Elijah (Lynn) Collins, all of Pilgrim, and Terry Dean (Bertha) Collins of Milo; and one sister, Geraldine Litton of Inez.
The service will be officiated by Sabert Nichols, with burial in the Robinson-Scott & Friends cemetery at Meathouse.

Bobby VanHoose
1934-2012
Graveside services were held Monday, Feb. 13, 11 a.m. at the Taylor-VanHoose cemetery at Staffordsville for Bobby VanHoose, 77, of Staffordsville, who passed away Friday, Feb. 10 at Hazard Hospice.
Mr. VanHoose was born March 2, 1934 in Paintsville, son of the late Curtis and Mary Elizabeth Taylor VanHoose. He was a district manager.
Surviving are his wife, Jennifer Kay Daniels VanHoose of Staffordsville; four sons, Mark Kevin VanHoose of Johnstown, Ohio, Michael Darren VanHoose of Akron, Ohio, Gregory Todd VanHoose of Tampa, Fla., and Bradley Neal VanHoose also of Florida; one daughter, Ashley Nicole VanHoose of Paintsville; one brother, George E. VanHoose; and one sister, Glenda Conley Curtis, both of Staffordsville; and several grandchildren.
The service was officiated by John Fred Ramey.

David Lee Bowens
1943-2012
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 13, 1 p.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for David Lee Bowens, 68, of Lowmansville, who passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8 at his residence.
Mr. Bowens was born Feb. 17, 1943 in Lowmansville, son of the late Cullie and Beulah Young Bowens. He was a mechanic with ICG of Eastern.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Wilks Bowens of Lowmansville; two sons, David Bowens of Jeffersonville and Todd Bowens of Shelbyville; one brother, Jerry Bowens of Lowmansville; and seven grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Paul Wayne Browning, with burial in the Highland Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville.

Elder Bruce Lewis Howard

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 16, 11 a.m. at the Bethel United Baptist Church for Elder Bruce Lewis Howard, 73, of Tutor Key, who passed away Monday, Feb. 13 at his residence.
Mr. Howard was born Nov. 17, 1938 in Thelma, son of the late Elder Virgil and Ida Mae Preston Howard. He was a teacher/coach for Johnson County School System.
Surviving are his wife, Toby Bussey Howard of Tutor Key; one son, Robert Bruce Howard of Tutor Key; two daughters, Libby Pack of Auxier, and Melissa Blair of Tutor Key; five sisters, Carolyn McKenzie, Wilma Setser, Dr. Patricia Vanover, Vicki Phipps, and Janie Vanover, all of Clintwood, Va.; and eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Johnny Curtis, Theril Daniel, Clarence Thompson and David Young, with burial in the Lakeview Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville.

James O. ‘Jim’ Burchett II
1962-2012
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 15, 1 p.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for James O. “Jim” Burchett II, 49, of Stambaugh, who passed away Sunday, Feb. 12 at his residence.
Mr. Burchett was born July 26, 1962 in Paintsville, son of the late James Ochel and Margaret Blair Burchett. He was a bus driver for the Johnson County School system.
Surviving are two sons, James W. and Blaze Robert Burchett, both of Stambaugh; one step-son, Logan Michael Burchett of Arkansas; one step-daughter, Malorie Diane Burchett of Missouri; four sisters, Marina Burchett and Yvonne McCarty, both of Stambaugh, Carolyn Fyffe and Lisa Daniel, both of Sitka.
The service will be officiated by Jim McKenzie, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.

John Philip Webb

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 15, 11 a.m. a the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for John Philip Webb, 40, of Paintsville, who passed away Sunday, Feb. 12 at his residence.
Mr. Webb was born April 3, 1971 in Pike County, son of Philip and Betty S. Williamson Webb of Paintsville.
He was materials engineer with the Dept. of Transportation.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Teresa Prater Webb of Paintsville; one daughter, Abbey Nicole Webb of Paintsville; father- and mother-in law, Ray (Sue) Prater of West Van Lear; sister- and brother-in-law, Anita (James) Cantrell; and nephew, Brennan Cantrell, all of Flat Gap.
The service will be officiated by Jimmy Price and David Blackburn, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.

Leo W. Justice
1933-2012
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 10, 1 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Leo W. Justice, 78, of Inez, who passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.
Mr. Justice was born Oct. 10, 1933 in Martin County, son of the late Frank and Mary Crum Justice. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Bowen Justice; one sister, Esta Manning; and two brothers, James Monroe and Thomas Justice.
Surviving are two sons, David Lee Justice of Inez and Cleo Justice of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Clarence Justice of Inez; two sisters, Dorothy Whitt of Salyersville and Lucille Grizzell of Somerset, Ohio.
The service will be officiated by Richard “Doc” Maynard and Dave Bowen, with burial following in the Warfield Cemetery.

Ella Mae Scarberry
1946-2012
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, 11:30 a.m. at the Preston Funeral Home for Ella Mae Scarberry, 65, of River, who passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8 at her residence.
Mrs. Scarberry was born July 27, 1946 in Lowmansville, daughter of the late Tolvie and Zora Green Sparks.
Surviving are her husband, Arthur Cleveland “Todd” Scarberry of River; one son, Todd (Andrea) Scarberry of River; four brothers, Homer Sparks of Grove City, Ohio, Sammie and Kenneth Sparks, both of River, and Ray Sparks of Columbus, Ohio; and three grandsons.
Visitation will be 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10.
The service will be officiated by Jason Auxier, Terry Conley, and Roger Sparks, with burial to follow in the family cemetery at River.
