Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 13, 3 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Clyde VanHoose, 102, of Wittensville, who passed away Friday, Feb. 10 at his residence.
Mr. VanHoose was born Sept. 5, 1909 in Johnson County, son of the late Albert and Luttishia Boyd VanHoose. He was a retired coal miner.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Larry Gordan VanHoose; three brothers, Fred, Robie, and Dan VanHoose; and two sisters, Eula Fitzpatrick and Nallie VanHoose.
Surviving are two sons, Roger VanHoose of Louisville, and Robert Lee VanHoose of Marysville, Ohio; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Timothy Stambaugh, with burial in the Burke-Hale cemetery at Sitka.

Opal Goble McKenzie
1909-2012
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 17, 1 p.m. at the Auxier Free Will Baptist Church for Opal Goble McKenzie, 102, of Auxier, who passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14 at Prestonsburg Health Care Center in Prestonsburg.
Mrs. McKenzie was born Nov. 20, 1909 in Floyd County, daughter of the late James and Florence Wells Goble. She was a homemaker.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willard McKenzie; one son, Walter Gene McKenzie; and three daughters, Gloria June Pitts, Margaret G. Caudill and Lois Ann Duran.
Surviving are two sons, Danny and Willard E. McKenzie, both of Auxier; two daughters, Donna Moore of Pickerington, Ohio, and Sue Preston of Ypsilanti, Mich.; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Bobby Joe Spencer and Chris Sturgill, with burial in the Auxier Relocation cemetery at Auxier.

Jack D. Burke
1934-2012
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, 4 p.m. at the Hartzler Funeral Home in Akron, Ind., for Jack D. Burke, 77, of West Mentone, Ind., who passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14 at the Autumn Ridge Rehab Centre in Wabash, Ind.
Mr. Burke was born Dec. 16, 1934 in Paintsville, son of the late Den and Ella Travis Burke. He was retired from General Tire in Wabash; a U.S. Air Force veteran; and a member of the Goldwing Road Riders Association.
Surviving are his wife, Juda R. Burke of Mentone; one daughter, Kathy Long of Wabash; two sons, Steve Burke of Mentone, and Stacy (Panessia) Burke of Warsaw, Ind.; one sister, Ann Gunnell of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 18, 1-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
The service will be officiated by Pastor Danny Honeycutt, with burial to follow in the Bremen cemetery at a later date, where military rites will be conducted.

Thomas Fletcher
1941-2012
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, 2 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Thomas Fletcher, 70, of Debord, who passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Fletcher was born Oct. 27, 1941 in Martin County, son of the late John and Elizabeth Fields Fletcher. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Denzil Fletcher; and one sister, Anna Louise Bowen.
Surviving are his wife, Wealthy Spence Fletcher; four sons, Thomas Fletcher of South Carolina, Richard Fletcher of Columbus, Ohio, Christopher Fletcher of Flatwoods, and Jason Cook of Louisa; three daughters, Patricia Fletcher of Virginia, Janice Bowen and Kayla Perry, both of Inez; three brothers, John P. Fletcher of Charley, Daniel Fletcher of Debord, and Millard Fletcher of Inez; three sisters, Rebecca Couch of Tennessee, Geraldine Jennings of Inez, and Ernestine Newsome of Debord; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 17, 8 a.m.-10 p.m. at the funeral home.
The service will be officiated by Willie Goble, Danny Hall and Luther Fletcher, with burial to follow in the Spence Family cemetery at Inez.

James ‘Russell’ Rice

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, 11 a.m. at the Little Paint First Church of God for James “Russell” Rice, 92, of East Point, who passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14 at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.
Mr. Rice was born Nov. 14, 1919 in Floyd County, son of the late Raleigh and Dialphia Robinson Rice. He was retired from Kentucky West Virginia Gas, and was a member of the Little Paint First Church of God.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Malta Music Rice; three brothers, Claude Douglas, Francis Gordon, and Zelard Rice; one sister, Emily Bullock; and daughter-in-law, Carole L. Rice.
Surviving are one daughter, Sharon Kay (Tee) Watkins; and one son, Clarence Russell Rice, both of East Point; two brothers, Montie (Barbara), and Jack (Phyllis) Rice; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 17, 4 p.m.-9 p.m. and until time of service on Saturday at the church.
The service will be officiated by Pastor Jeff White, with burial to follow in the Lakeview cemetery at Staffordsville.

Reverend John Richard Dollarhide
1939-2012
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Reverend John Richard Dollarhide, 72, who passed away Saturday, Feb. 11 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mr. Dollarhide was born April 24, 1939 in Johnson County, son of the late Johnny and Nellie Walters Dollarhide. He was a retired coal miner.
Surviving are his wife, Maggie Spears Dollarhide; one son, Billy R. Dollarhide of Van Lear; three daughters, Joann Cantrell of Van Lear, Clara Booth of Paintsville, and Mary Fairchild of Wabash, Ind.; one brother, Albert Dollarhide of Van Lear; one sister, Clara Smith of Tazewell, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Roger Hill and Donnie Witten, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park cemetery at Staffordsville.

Samuel D. Harvey
1929-2012
Memorial services were held Thursday, Feb. 16, 8 p.m. at the Spence-Miller Funeral Home in Grove City, Ohio, for Samuel D. Harvey, 82, of Grove City, who passed away Monday, Feb. 13 at Monterey Care Center.
Mr. Harvey was born July 21, 1929, son of the late James and Maude Gross Harvey. He was a member of the Bricklayers Local #55; a member of the Southwestern Church of Christ; and he was listed in the Who’s Who of Ohio in 1974. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jeanie Harvey; and one son, Scott Harvey.
Surviving are four sons, Mike, Steve, Terry, and Jerry Harvey; one daughter, Sandra (George) Larger; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Pastor Audrey Hardy, with inurnment at a later date at the Wilson cemetery in Johnson County.

Fannie Mae Daniels LeMaster Hatfield
1925-2012
Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 17, 11 a.m. at the Duncan Fork United Baptist Church in Myrtle, W.Va., for Fannie Mae Daniels LeMaster Hatfield, 86, of Wurtland, who passed away Sunday, Feb. 12 at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mrs. Hatfield was born Feb. 19, 1925 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Walker B. “Bud” and Cathern Grim Daniels. She was a retired medical records and billing clerk at Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson; founded the Greenup Hospice quilters; and a member of Duncan Fork United Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Bryce Lemaster and Raynie Hatfield; one son, Danny Bryce LeMaster; one brother, Wilmer Ray Daniels; and one sister, Neva Fay Daniels.
Surviving are three daughters, Janet (W.C.) Totten of Delbarton, W.Va., Betty Lou (Clifford) Williams of Columbus, Ohio, and Barbara (Gary) Swann of Raceland; two brothers, Willard Cecil (Betty Jo) Daniels of Columbus; Virgil Eugene (Sandy) Daniels of Hager Hill; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Elders Eddie Layne and Jerry McCoy, with burial in the Mountain View Memory Garden in Maher, W.Va.
