Funeral services will be held Friday, July 29, 10 a.m. at the Moll Funeral Home of Mascoutah, Ill., for Tobie D. Castle, 67, of Mascoutah, who passed away Saturday, July 23 at the St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, Ill.
Mr. Castle was born Oct. 15, 1943 in Paintsville, son of the late William and Pauline Castle. He was a retired TSGT with the U.S. Air Force and a Vietnam War veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Mary June Fanetti Castle of Mascoutah; one son Tyrone (Sandra) Castle of Fairview Heights, Ill.; five brothers, William (Wilma) Castle of Ashland, Lawrence (Sharon) Castle, and Marvin (Debbie) Castle, both of Paintsville, Bob (Diane) Castle of Lowmansville, and Roger (Lisa) Castle of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Diane Daniels of Paintsville; and three grandchildren.
Military services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Jefferson Barracks National cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.

Kathryn Charlene Daniel Hall
1939-2011
Funeral services were held Monday, July 25, 11 a.m. at the Tom’s Creek Free Will Baptist Church for Kathryn Charlene Daniel Hall, 72, of Sitka, who passed away Friday, July 22 in Lexington.
Mrs. Hall was born June 17, 1939 in Indianapolis, Ind., daughter of the late Charles and Maxine Williams Daniel. She was a clerk for Master’s Miracle Book Store.
Surviving are her husband, Hurston Hall of Sitka; one son, Mark Kevin Hall of Sitka; one daughter, Pamela Ruth Hall of Superior, Colo.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by James K. Caudill and Jim McKenzie, with burial in the Horne cemetery in Paintsville.

Margie Ratliff Cochran Kestner
1917-2011
Funeral services were held Friday, July 22, 11 a.m. at the Preston Funeral Home for Margie Ratliff Cochran Kestner, 94, of Lexington, formerly of West Van Lear, who passed away Tuesday, July 19 in Lexington.
Mrs. Kestner was born June 22, 1917 at Peach Orchard, daughter of the late Bernard and Julia Boyd Ratliff.
She was a retired cook with Hardee’s.
Surviving are one son, David Garry Cochran of Hager Hill; three step-sons, Harold Thomas, Ashley, and Moses Kestner; four daughters, Julia Moore of Louisa, Elaine Wilkinson of Lexington, Patricia Reffett of Georgetown, Ind., and Pam Adams of Paintsville; three step-daughters, Naywatha Honeycutt, Valetta Lemaster, and Juanita Banks; two sisters, Murriel Patrick of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Mary Alice Miller of Canel Winchester, Ohio; 30 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Lonnie Ratliff, with burial in the Kestner cemetery of Hager Hill.

Phyllis Ann Estep
1936-2011
Funeral services were held Monday, July 25, 11 a.m. at the Concord United Baptist Church, for Phyllis Ann Estep, 74, of Thelma, who passed away Friday, July 22 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mrs. Estep was born Sept. 19, 1936 in Thelma, daughter of the late Walter F. and Goldie Mae Caudill Holbrook.
Surviving are her husband, Jack Estep of Thelma; one son, Barry J. Estep of Scottsburg, Ind.; and four grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Johnnie Mollette, Dewey Mullins, and Terry Preston, with burial in the Community cemetery at Thelma.

Robert “Bob” Howard
1935-2011
Funeral services were held Friday, July 22, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Robert “Bob” Howard, 75, formerly of Boons Camp, who passed away Sunday, July 17 in Miamisburg, Ohio.
Mr. Howard was born Sept. 1, 1935 at Boons Camp, son of Nell Howard and the late Homer B. Howard Sr.
He was an electrician with Local IBEW 82.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Howard; two sons, Darrell Howard and Danny Howard; one daughter, Deborah Howard Terry; three brothers, Homer B. Howard Jr., Dean Howard, and Roger Howard; two sisters, Pat Reno, and Bonnie Currant; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
Masonic services were held Thursday, July 21 at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel.

Ruby Jane Brown
1925-2011
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 24, 2 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home in Paintsville, for Ruby Jane Brown, 86, of Prestonsburg, formerly of Falcon, who passed away Friday, July 22 at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.
Mrs. Brown was born March 5, 1925 in Magoffin County, daughter of the late Theodore and Ellen Blair Pennington.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Brown; and several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are seven sons, Levi Curtis and Lloyd Curtis Jr. Brown, both of Morehead, James Hazel Brown of Whitesburg, Elbert Lee, Phillip Leonard and Edward Thomas Brown, all of Florida, and Anthony Wayne Brown of Ohio; seven daughters, Wilma Miles of Whitesburg, Emma Jean Smith and Virginia Ray Greathouse, both of Florida, Peggy Louise Stewart of Paintsville, Pricilla Manns of Salyersville, Pauline Williamson of Lawrence County, and Alfredia Webb of Flat Gap; one brothers, Burlie Pennington of Falcon; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Steve Rose and William Perkins, with burial in the Pennington Family cemetery at Falcon.

James “Big Jim” McCarty
1946-2011
Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 26, 10:30 a.m. at the Lakeview Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville, for James “Big Jim” McCarty, 65, of Oil Springs, who passed away Saturday, July 23 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mr. McCarty was born March 16, 1946 at Oil Springs, son of the late Clyde and Gusta Blanton McCarty. He was a coal truck driver.
Surviving are one son, Anthony (Christy) McCarty of Blaine; two brothers, Charles E. McCarty of Spar, Fla., and Dewey A. McCarty of Catlettsburg; one sister, Karen J. Ousley of Oil Springs; one granddaughter; and two step-grandsons.
The service was officiated by Elder Dewey A. McCarty.

Melvin Fugate
1951-2011
Melvin Fugate, 60, of Paintsville, passed away on July 15, 2011.
Born May 27, 1951, at Vest, he was the son of Marie Miller Fugate Sawyers, of Flemingsburg, and the late Melvin Fugate.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by: one son, Shawn Chadwick (Dee) Fugate, of Clarksville, Tenn.; one step-daughter, Stephanie (Eric) Anthorp, of Alexandria; five sisters, Marietta (Otis) Patrick of Flemingsburg, Delores (Bennett) Amburgey of Leburn, Kathy (Mark) Carlson of Jacksonville N.C., Alicia Staton of Knoxville Tenn., and Darlene Sawyers of Lexington; a brother-in-law, Kermit Smith Ringgold, of Ga.; and eight grandchildren.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by: his step-father, Ed Sawyers; one son, Melvin Scott Fugate; one brother, Marvin Lee Sawyers; and two sisters, Bonnie Ruth Smith and Linda Lou Musgrave.
