Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 29, 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Golda Mae Green Castle, 71, of Wittensville, who passed away Friday, Nov. 26 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va.
Mrs. Castle was born Nov. 18, 1939 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Charlie and Angie Belle Salyers Green.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Castle.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Darrell Castle of Lowmansville, and Douglas Leon Castle of Columbus, Ohio; three daughters, Brenda (Rick) Vanhoose of Nippa, Betty Rowland of Wittensville, and Kimberly (Gary) Rice of Lowmansville; three brothers, Gene (Bobbi) Green and Gary (Jo) Green, both of Lowmansville, and Danny (Debbie) Green of Dayton, Ohio; three sisters, Joyce (Jessie) Mahon and Sue Swan, both of Charley, and Margaret (Dencil) Preston of Ohio; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Jimmy Vanhoose, with burial in the Castle cemetery at Lowmansville.
Arrangements under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Jane Elizabeth Hill
1918-2010
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 24, in Atlanta, Ga., for Jane Elizabeth Hill, 92, of Atlanta, formerly of Stambaugh, who passed away Monday, Nov. 22.
Surviving are three children, Jeanie (Dennis) Cooper, Susan Pearman, and Barnabas Hill, all of Atlanta; one sister, Edith Crum Brown; and three grandchildren.

Glenda Carol Burke
1965-2010
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Glenda Carol Burke, 45, of Van Lear, who passed away Wednesday, Nov. 3 at her home.
Mrs. Burke was born Sept. 26, 1965, daughter of Judy Fairchild Sexton and the late Phillip Sexton.
Surviving in addition to her mother, are her husband, Charles Burke of Van Lear; two daughters, Amanda Burke and Jessica Faye Burke, both of Van Lear; three brothers, Phillip, Raney, and Jeffery Sexton, all of Paintsville; and two sisters, Tammy Sexton of Paintsville and Malinda Lemaster of Staffordsville.
Burial was in the Johnson County Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville.
Arrangements under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Madeline Lyons Whitten
1927-2010
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 13, 1 p.m. at the Tom’s Creek Free Will Baptist Church, for Madeline Lyons Whitten, 83, who passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9 at South Shore Hospital in Trenton, Mich.
Mrs. Whitten was born Aug. 17, 1927 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Andrew and Lydia Meadows Lyons. She was a retired supervisor at Riverside Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Whitten.
Surviving are two sons, Charles Edward Whitten of Paintsville, and Lon Calvin (Diane) Whitten of Prestonsburg; four daughters, Phyllis (Harold) Tallent of Stockbridge, Ga., Gladys Mannix of Wyandotte, Mich., Mandy (Dave) Hursey of Gibraltar, Mich., and Kimberly (Tom) Jeffers of Woodhaven, Mich.; five brothers, Bob (Patty) Lyons of Sitka, Bill (Faye) Lyons of Nippa, Georgie (Pearl) and Paul Thomas (Sally) Lyons, both of Marion, Ohio, and Clarence Lyons of Staffordsville; two sisters, Betty (Bill) Dale of Florida, and Winnie Lee (Robert) Hamilton of Thealka; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The service was officiated by James Kelly Caudill, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.

Robert Blanton
1922-2010
Robert Blanton, 87, of Belva, W.Va, completed his earthly life and went home to join his Lord and Savior on Nov. 5. He had been under the care of Kanawha County Hospice for the last few months.
Born Dec. 1, 1922 in Johnson County to Haden and Mahala Jackson Blanton, he was reared in Oil Springs. On March 14, 1952, in Paintsville, he married Helen Blanton.
Mr. Blanton served eight years in the United States Army, serving in Korea as a combat medic. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was retired from the Texas International Oil Company.
An avid hunter for over 50 years, he enjoyed raising beagles. He also enjoyed gardening, small engine repair, and metal crafts. Never still until the final year of his life, he was a devoted family man. He was known to most by the smile on his face and the cup of coffee in his hand. He had amassed hundreds of friends during his lifetime.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, he leaves to mourn: a son, Thomas (Kendra) Blanton of Foster, W.Va.; two daughters, Vicki Hill of Dixie, W.Va. and Sue (Joe) Jung of Milner, Ga.; four grandchildren and eight great granchildren; and a sister, Lucy (William) Carrick of Fairborn, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.
Graveside services, with full military rites, were held Nov. 9 at the Restlawn Memory Gardens in Victor, W.Va. The Rev. John Brown officiated with Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, in charge of the arrangements.

Michael Allen Rowland
1977-2010
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 15, 11 a.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Michael Allen Rowland, 32, of Shelbiana, who passed away Friday, Nov. 12 in Shelbiana.
Mr. Rowland was born Dec. 14, 1977 in Ironton, Ohio, son of Stoney and Marie Duty Rowland. He was a self-employed construction worker.
Surviving in addition to his parents, are five sons, Zachary Michael Allen Rowland of Prestonsburg, Michael Allen Rowland of North Carolina, Austin Dale, Caleb Stone and Cannon Castille Rowland, all of Stanton; one brother, Billy Lafferty Jr. of Paintsville; three sisters, Tracy Helton of Stanton, Michelle Wheeler of Florida, and Shannon VanHoose of Salyersville.
The service was officiated by Isaac Rowland, with burial in the Duty cemetery at Meally.
Arrangements under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Jane Hawes Suttles Sammons
1934-2010
Jane Sammons, age 76, of Grayson, died Saturday at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
She was born August 17, 1934, in Olive Hill a daughter of the late Harry & Verna Morgan Hawes. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Glen Suttles, a son, Bobby Glen Suttles, three brothers; Billy, Jimmy and Truman Hawes, and one sister, Ruth Plumley.
Janie was a member of the Willard Christian Church and was self-employed as the owner of Janie’s Baby School in Grayson for 35 years. Jane was known by all for her love of children and was known by many as “Mamaw”. Her favorite phrase’ “Love Makes a Difference” was evident by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Sammons, one son, John Mark (Amy) Suttles, one daughter, Lora Suttles of Paintsville, three stepsons; Michael Sammons, Donald (Beth) Sammons, and Charlie (Shelly) Sammons, all of Grayson, one sister, Mary Alice Thompson of Olive Hill, ten grandchildren; George, Molly and Willie Suttles, Jarred and Taylor Sammons, Tanner, Noah and Eli Sammons and Harlan and Sierra Sammons, one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Suttles and a special friend, Julianne Sanders.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 1:00 p.m. at Sparks Funeral Home.
The service was officiated by Johnny Sergent, with burial in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Donald Ray Music
1940-2010
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m. at the Southside Free Will Baptist Church for Donald Ray Music, 70, of Blaine, who passed away Thursday, Nov. 11 at his residence.
Mr. Music was born Apr. 20, 1940 in Auxier, son of the late Okra and Hazel Spencer Music. He was a retired construction worker with Blair Construction, and a U. S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Rosalee Simpson Music of Auxier; seven sons, Donnie Music of Paintsville, Kevin and John Music, both of Staffordsville, and Bill, Dwight, Daniel and Curtis Music, all of Oil Springs; two step-sons, Steven Davis of Paris, Ky., and Michel Scott Davis of Fremont, Ind.; two daughters, Carla Jones of Van Lear, and Marie Music of Prestonsburg; one step-daughter, Carolyn Davis of Van Lear; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Wayne Price, Larry Smith and Eddie Young, with burial in the Auxier Relocation cemetery at Auxier.
