Funeral services will be Thursday, September 2, 11 a.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for Delphine Blanton, 77, of Oil Springs, who passed away Monday, August 30 at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born November 30, 1932 in Johnson County, daughter of the late James K. Polk and Josephine Webb Williams.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Jo Blanton.
Surviving are two sons, Billie Ray and Danny Joe Blanton, both of Oil Springs; three daughters, Sue Conley of Cynthiana, Anita Owens and Brenda Stamper, both of Oil Springs; one brother, James Arnold Williams of Cambridge, Ohio; one sister, Barbara Sue Sparks of Ashland; and 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by the Rev. Joe Keaton, with burial following in the family cemetery at Oil Springs.

Golda Mae Green Castle
1939-2010
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 29, 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Golda Mae Green Castle, 71, of Wittensville, who passed away Friday, Nov. 26 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va.
Mrs. Castle was born Nov. 18, 1939 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Charlie and Angie Belle Salyers Green.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Castle.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Darrell Castle of Lowmansville, and Douglas Leon Castle of Columbus, Ohio; three daughters, Brenda (Rick) Vanhoose of Nippa, Betty Rowland of Wittensville, and Kimberly (Gary) Rice of Lowmansville; three brothers, Gene (Bobbi) Green and Gary (Jo) Green, both of Lowmansville, and Danny (Debbie) Green of Dayton, Ohio; three sisters, Joyce (Jessie) Mahon and Sue Swan, both of Charley, and Margaret (Dencil) Preston of Ohio; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Jimmy Vanhoose, with burial in the Castle cemetery at Lowmansville.

Heather Mimi Dawn Spradlin Draffen
1987-2010
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 2, 10 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Heather Draffen, 23, of Symsonia, who passed away Friday, Nov. 26 at her residence.
Mrs. Draffen was born Oct. 15, 1987 in Johnson County, daughter of Carolyn Vanhoose Boggs of Nippa, and the late Dennis Spradlin.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her father, by her grandfather, Lemuel Vanhoose.
Surviving are her husband, Michael Draffen; four sons, Dennis, Mikey, Tyler and Harold Draffen, and two daughters, Evelyn and Courtney Draffen, all of Paducah; two brothers, Dennis Spradlin of Stambaugh, and Matthew Spradlin of Paintsville; one sister, Crystal Castle of Paintsville; and her grandmother, Evelyn Vanhoose of Paintsville.
The service was officiated by Dennis Spradlin, with burial in the Spradlin Family cemetery at Denver.

Virginia A. Music
1931-2010
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, 9:30 a.m. at the Schoedinger North Chapel in Columbus, Ohio, for Virginia A. “Ginny” Music, 79, of Columbus, who passed away Wednesday, Dec. 1.
Mrs. Music was born April 17, 1931 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Rev. Scott and Bertha Castle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. James Music Sr.; infant daughter, Barbara Kay Music; two sons, Phillip and David Music; and one grandson, Jason Music.
Surviving are four sons, James Music Jr., Jerry Music, Roger (Paula) Music and Raymond (Dobie) Music; one daughter, Kathy Music; one brother, Scottie Castle; two sisters, Marie Rose Ward, and Ruby Snowden; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Pastor James Blankenship, with interment in the Kingwood Memorial Park at Lewis Center, Ohio.

Colonel Sidney Blythe Garland passed away on November 24, 2010. He was born on September 7, 1922, in Elma, Ia., to Rev. C. Raleigh and Pearl Garland.
Sid is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janet, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; his sons, Sidney II (Anne), Oak Ridge, Tenn. and Richard (Kathy), Huntington Beach, Calif., David, Louisville, Ky., Robert (Jane), Ft. Myers, Fla.; grandchildren Jennifer, Sidney III, Catherine, Patricia, Cynthia, Andrea, and Suzanne; great-granddaughter Kailua; his brothers Paul (Virginia), Statesville, N.C., and Philip (Mary Lou), Danville, Ky.
Sid served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, landing on Okinawa in the first wave on Easter Sunday, 1945. He was awarded a Silver Star for bravery. Following World War II, he was a China Marine and was recalled to active duty during the Korean War to Camp Pendleton, Calif. He retired as a Colonel from the Marine Reserves after 30 years of service.
Sid lived in Paintsville, Ky., for 52 years, where he was active in the Methodist Church and the community. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary with perfect attendance for 37 years. He also established Little League baseball in Paintsville and was a Scout leader.
Sid was a faithful fan of the University of Kentucky attending every home game for football and basketball as long as he was physically able and following their schedule away when possible. He was an Associate Alumnae and awarded special recognition by the K Men’s Association.
Sid worked at H.B. Rice Insurance Agency with his brother Bill for many years. Then he became Superintendent of the Paintsville Utilities for 19 years. He helped organize the Kentucky Gas Association and served on the Board of Directors for years. He was elected President of this group for two different terms.
Sid’s sense of humor was keen. His puns and jokes were spontaneous in every situation. Sometimes they brought laughs-sometimes groans. His wish was that no one be sad on this day. He lived his life by the Marine Corps motto, “Semper Fi.”
Plans for a Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at a later date at Arlington National cemetery in Arlington, Va. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge or Paintsville, Ky.

Mary K. Coleman
Mary K. “Granny Kay” Coleman went to be with her heavenly Father, who she faithfully served all of her adult life, on November 26, 2010. She was an active member of the Northridge Church of the Nazarene and retired from the Northridge Public School System.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billie B. Coleman; sons: Alan and Jeffrey; granddaughter, Emma Grace Coleman; her mom and dad; her in-laws; a brother; and a sister.
Mary is survived by daughters: Kathy (Don) Weiss and Sherry (Dennis) Jones; 7 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and many beloved family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Northridge Free Will Baptist Church, 4800 Payne Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45414, where the family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service, 10:00 am – 12:00 Noon. Pastor Paul Watkins officiating. Burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.

William Garland Bailey
1922-2010
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 29, 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Paintsville, for William Garland Bailey, 88, formerly of Paintsville, who passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24 in Lexington.
Mr. Bailey was born July 28, 1922 in Salyersville, son of the late Warrick and Suda Dixon Bailey.
He was a WWII U.S. Navy pilot and retired Executive Vice-President with Citizens National Bank.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Walker Clay Bailey.
Surviving are one son, Clay (Joyce) Bailey of Tampa, Fla.; one daughter, Nancye Thompson of Lexington; three granddaughters, and two great-grandsons.
The service was officiated by the Rev. Don Barret, with burial in the Mayo cemetery in Paintsville.

Diana Miller

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 2, 2 p.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Diana Miller, 34, of Louisa, who passed away Monday, Nov. 29 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Ms. Miller was born Oct. 7, 1976 in Huntington, W.Va., daughter of the late Dan and Zelphia Wiley Miller.
Surviving are two sons, Tamia Prater of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Jessie James Bowen of Martin County; three daughters, Kayla Boyd and Valerie Ann Bowen, both of Martin County, and Danielle Miller of Lawrence County; one brother, Lacy Mills of Lawrence County; one sister, Leah Bowen of Whitehouse; and one half-sister, Genny Zorna of Lawrence County.
The service will be officiated by Jimmy Vanhoose, with burial in the Miller cemetery at Louisa.
