Rupert B. Sparks, 87, of Springfield, Ohio, died Wednesday, September 27, at Community Hospital in Springfield.
He was born February 12, 1913, in Johnson County, to the late David R. and Leura Catherine (Medley) Sparks. Mr. Sparks was a member of the Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church and was retired from Navistar.
He was also preceded in death by his wives, Sadie (Dials) Sparks and Minnie (Skaggs) Sparks, and one great-granddaughter, Wendy Holt.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Sparks and Billie Sparks, both of Springfield, Ohio, and Farrell Sparks of Beavercreek, Ohio; four step-children, Darlene Ross, Willa Jean Sagraves, Chester Ferguson, all of Springfield, Ohio, and Anna Belle Williams, of Morgan County; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, September 29, in the Eastside Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Moore and Jim Baldwin officiating.
Graveside services will be held September 30 at 11 a.m. in Sturgill Cemetery at Martha, with Paintsville Funeral Home in charge.
Dola Jackson Sr.
1903-2000
Former Johnson County resident Dola Jackson Sr., 97, died Sunday, September 24, at Wurtland Manor Nursing Home in Wurtland.
Mr. Jackson was born March 15, 1903, in Johnson County, to the late Albert Jackson and Mary Jackson. He was a retired laborer and a member of the Baptist faith.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lenora Blair, in 1967.
Survivors include one son, Dola Jackson Jr. of Summit; one daughter, Frankie Frankes of Cleveland, Ohio; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held September 27 at the Lazear Funeral Home with Dr. C.J. Adkins officiating.
Burial will be in Brick Union Cemetery in Greenup County.
Mary Emma Fairchild
1908-2000
Mary Emma Fairchild, 92, of Waverly, Ohio, died Tuesday, September 26, at her residence.
She was born July 12, 1908, in Paintsville, to the late George Washington and Etta (Caslte) Lemaster. She was a retired owner/operator of Fairfield Grocery and was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Bennie Fairchild; two sons, Clarence Fairchild of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Cleve Fairchild of Waverly, Ohio; one daughter, Clara Snively of Waverly, Ohio; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held September 30 at 10 a.m. at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly, Ohio, with Elder Bruce Gullett officiating.
Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery, Piketon, Ohio.
Lindsey E. Rice
1940-2000
Jones-Preston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Lindsey E. Rice, 60, who died Thursday, September 28, in Grove City, Ohio.
Mr. Rice was born April 12, 1940, in Johnson County, to the late Dewey Rice and Ollie Conley Rice. He was a truck driver and a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include one son, Clayton Rice of New Mexico; one step-daughter, Stephanie Alice Morgan, of Columbus, Ohio; four brothers, Charles B. Rice, of Tip City, Ohio, John R. Rice of East Point, Caul Rice of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Douglas Rice, of West Van Lear; three sisters, Hermalee Andy of Garrettsville, Ohio, Garnett Moore, of Dayton, Ohio, and Helen Violet, of Urbana, Ohio; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 30, at 1 p.m. at Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville with Leroy Auxier officiating.
Myra Mulford Hall
1941-2000
Salyersville resident Myra Mulford Hall, 59, died Sunday, September 24, at St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead.
Born July 22, 1941 in Lebanon, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Smith Mulford and Bertha Cherry Holmes. She was a florist.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Odis Lee Hall.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Hall of Salyersville and Odis Lee Hall Jr. of West Liberty; seven daughters, Lisa Welch and Lynda Meade, both of Whitehouse, Laura McCarty and Debby Jarrell, both of Salyersville, Sharon Roberts of Gainesville, Florida, and Bonnie Jarrell and Sylvia Hall, both of Bronson, Florida; two brothers, Jim Mulford of Clarskville, Ohio, and Joseph Mulford of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Cheryl Carter of Lakeville, Massachusetts and Maryland Colson of Saleum, Alabama; fourteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, September 27, at 1 p.m. at Elkfork Primitive Baptist Church at Rockhouse with David Meek and Roy Coffey officiating.
Burial will be in Kannard Cemetery at Rockhouse.
Herman Wiley
1914-2000
Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Herman “Bus” Wiley, 86, of River, who died Saturday, September 23, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Born March 26, 1914, in Johnson County, he was the son of the late John Burns and Tishie Preston Wiley. He was a retired coal miner.
Graveside services were held September 25 at Coon Lane Cemetery at Whitehouse with Harold Williams officiating.
Luther Lemaster
1914-2000
Luther Lemaster, 85, of Paintsville, died Thursday, September 21, at Mountain Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Lemaster was born December 6, 1914, in Fuget, to the late Alvie Lemaster and Belle Salyer. He was a retired farmer and WWII Army veteran.
Funeral services were held September 24 at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel with Elder James R. Blair and Elder Douglas Ward officiating. Burial followed in the Lemaster Cemetery at Volga.
Opal McKenzie Conley
1932-2000
Jones-Preston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Opal McKenzie Conley, 68, who died Monday, September 25, at her Flat Gap residence.
Mrs. Conley was born November 24, 1932, in Johnson County, to the late Beldon McKenzie and Verna Lemaster McKenzie. She was a homemaker.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edgel Conley.
Survivors include one son, Freddie Conley of Flat Gap; one brother, James McKenzie of Grand Rapids, Michigan; five sisters, Laura B. Lyon of Hager Hill, Alline Murell of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Maudie Marie Collinsworth of Dayton, Ohio, Wilma Jean Franks, of Michigan, and Dorothy Irene Exline of Russell Point, Ohio; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held today, September 27, at 11 a.m. at Kerz Enterprise Baptist Church at Flat Gap with Paul Dean Meade and Lindsey Meade officiating.
Burial will follow in the Conley Family Cemetery at Flat Gap.
William Cullen Jude

William Cullen Jude, 83, of Columbus, Ohio, died Wednesday, September 20, at Chillicothe Veterans Hospital in Columbus.
Born July 13, 1917, in Martin County, he was the son of the late Gabriel Jude and Lori Tripplett Jude. He was a retired coal miner and WWII army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Slone Jude.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Lynn Jude of Columbus, Ohio, and William Cullen Jude Jr. of Paintsville; four daughters, Billy Jean Fletcher and Darlene Savage, both of Beauty, Lola Slone and Jenetta Grim, both of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Jasper Jude and D. Jude, both of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Grace McCoy of Beauty; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 23, at 11 a.m. at Phelps and Son Funeral Home with James Slone officiating. Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery at Beauty.
Terri Lynn Webb

Terri Lynn Webb, 37, of Langley, died Tuesday, September 19, in Pippa Passes, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born September 11, 1963, in Paintsville, to Asie Hayden and Elva Jean Hayden of Paintsville. She was a realtor and a member of the Martin First Baptist Church.
Survivors also include her husband Thomas Edward Webb, and one son, Justin Thomas Webb of Langley.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 23, at 11 a.m. at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with clergymen Graydon Howard and Randy Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Carrie Stamper
1905-2000
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 17, for Paintsville resident Carrie Stamper, 95, who died September 15 at Mountain Manor Nursing Home.
Ms. Stamper was born April 15, 1905, in Johnson County, to the late Henry and Margaret Rigsby Frazier.
Survivors include four sons, Lloyd Stamper of Delaware, Ohio, Joe Stamper of Bristol, Oklahoma, James Stamper of Leander, and Charles Stamper of Paintsville; two daughters, Thelma Preston of West Van Lear, and Marie Conley of Waverly, Ohio; 25 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Officiating at services held at Preston Funeral Home Chapel was Terry Conley.
Burial followed in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
Imogene Mayo Kish
1916-2000
Imogene Mayo Kish, 83, died September 18, at Henrico Doctors Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.
Born November 6, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Robert Hurt Mayo and Nellie Osborne Mayo. She was a retired school teacher at Sparta High School in Sparta, New Jersey.
Mrs. Kish was preceded in death by her husband, John Albert Kish.
Survivors include two daughters, Valerie Mayo Kish of Rockville, Virginia and Teresa Alice Hardison of St. James City, Florida; one sister, Betty Mayo Melvin of Lexington; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, September 20, at 11 a.m. at Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Terance Hoppenjans officiating.
Burial will follow in Mayo Memorial Cemetery, Paintsville.
Vivia Hazel Stinson

Born October 10, 1909, at Flat Gap, she was the daughter of the late T.A. Salyer and Alabama “Allie” Fairchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Elmo Stinson.
Survivors include one daughter, Nadine Bland of Paintsville; one son, Darrell Stinson of Paintsville; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Carl Grimm
1919-2000
Carl Grimm, 81, of Paintsville, died Wednesday, September 13, at Mountain Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Grimm was born July 11, 1919, in Johnson County, to the late Bascom Grimm and Sarah Grimm. He was a retired school bus driver and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Mae Vanhoose Grimm.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald G. Grimm of Stambaugh and Chris Grimm of Paintsville; one brother, Bert Grimm of West Van Lear; one sister, Beatrice Patrick of Paintsville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held September 16, at Tom’s Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. James Kelly Caudill and Rev. Dick Vanhoose officiating.
Burial followed in Johnson County Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville.
Gene Elwood Fairchild
1941-2000
Paintsville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Gene Elwood Fairchild, 58, of West Point, who died September 12.
Mr. Fairchild was born November 23, 1941, in Johnson County to Erie Fairchild of Oil Springs and the late Eugene Fairchild. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors also include two sons, Gregory Fairchild of West Point and Michael Fairchild of Shepherdsville; one daughter, Tammy Wilkinson of Centralia, Illinois; four brothers, Bill, Eual, Denzil and Gary Fairchild, all of Oil Springs; four sisters, Jewell Salyers of Paintsville, Loretta Holden of Louisville, Donna Morgan of Anna, Illinois, and Diana Blanton of Oil Springs; and seven grandchildren.
Officiating at services on September 16 at Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel was Elder Kenny Pelphrey.
Burial followed in Fairchild Cemetery at Oil Springs.
