Mr. Hall was born March 9, 1942, in Johnson County, to the late Cecil and Marie Goble Hall.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Simpson Hall; four sons, Virgil Hall of Hager Hill, Tony Dutton of Thealka and Charles Ray Dutton and James R. Hall, both of Van Lear; three daughters, Jeanne Price of Thelma and Mary Jane Ritter and Anna Marie Polley, both of Columbus, Ohio; three brothers, Jack Hall, Cecil Hall Jr. and David Hall, all of Van Lear; four sisters, Judy Hager, Alice Marie Dollarhide and Martha Leen Fitzpatrick, all of Van Lear, and Mary Lou Hurt of Louisville; and 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Officiating at services at Phelps & Son Funeral Home of Paintsville were B. Joe Hill, Robert Tussey and Paul Keaton.
Burial followed in Hall Family Cemetery at Van Lear.
Homer McFaddin
1908-2000
Retired plumber-electrician Homer McFaddin, 92, died Wednesday, November 1, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Mr. McFaddin was born March 26, 1908, in Johnson County, to the late William W.M. and Lou Conley McFaddin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was also preceded in death by two wives, Flossie McFaddin, in 1995; and Cholie Blair McFaddin, in 1977.
Surviving are three sons, Paul, Marvin and Kenneth McFaddin, all of Paintsville; and five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 3, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Larry Blair and Bob Lyons officiating.
Burial followed in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
Calvin Thornbury
1925-2000
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, for Calvin C. Thornbury, 75, of Greenup, who died Sunday, November 12, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
Mr. Thornbury was born June 19, 1925, at Canada, Kentucky, to the late William Madison and Octavia Smith Thornbury. He was a miner.
Surviving are his wife, Mae Thornbury; one son, David Russell Thornbury of Pikeville; three daughters, Lavonda Kay Robinette of Upsilanti, Michigan, Susan Jay Widner of West Chester, Ohio, and Betty Gibson of Russell; two sisters, Ethel Scott of Richmond and Betty Jane Cook of Superior, Arizona; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Officiating at 1 p.m. services at Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel will be Rev. Bobby Scott.
Burial will follow in Conley Family Cemetery at Oil Springs.
Betty Cox
1914-2000
Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Betty Cox, 86, who died Friday, November 10, at Mountain Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Cox was born September 16, 1914, in Morgan County, to the late Eligh and Lillie Wright Gambille.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Thurman Cox, on July 16, 1971.
Surviving are two sons, Charles Cox of Flat Gap and James A. Cox of Alabama; three daughters, Lilly McCarty of Oil Springs, Glenda Sowers of Zanesville, Ohio, and Sue Miller of Sount Point, Ohio; four brothers, Ossie Gambille of Beauty, Jack and Simon Gambille, both of Springfield, Ohio, and Jessie B. Gambille of Columbus, Ohio; three sisters, Marvie Gambille of Berea and Viola Gambille and Mattie Hall, both of Columbus, Ohio; and 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 12, at Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Keith Horn and Ted Dawson officiating.
Burial followed in Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville.
Susie Hicks

Retired LPN Susie S. Hicks, 96, of Paintsville, died Monday, November 6, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Hicks was born September 11, 1904, in Johnson County, to the late Frank and Susan Webb Baldridge.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ivo Hicks; and a son, Charles E. Stapleton.
Surviving are one granddaughter, Donna Barker, of Salyersville; one great-grandson, Lee Caldwell; and one great-great-grandson, Christopher Caldwell.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 9, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Bill Underwood officiating.
Burial followed in Baldridge Family Cemetery at Hager Hill.
Timothy Slone

Phelps & Son Funeral Home of Inez is in charge of arrangements for Timothy Lee Slone, 40, who died Tuesday, November 7, in Logan, West Virginia.
Mr. Slone was born November 17, 1959, in Johnson County, to Robert and Grace Maynard Slone.
Surviving are his parents; one daughter, Jessica Slone of Paintsville; one brother, John Slone of Inez; and a sister, Vickie Lynn Slone VanHoose of Paintsville.
Funeral services will be held today, Friday, at 2 p.m. at Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel, with Joe Mullins officiating.
Burial will follow in Slone Cemetery at Beauty.
Paul Joseph
1939-2000
Paul Edward Joseph, 61, of Auxier, died Friday, November 3, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Joseph was born June 12, 1939, to the late Dayton and Geneva Adkins Joseph. He was a retired coal miner, former owner of P&B ambulance and member of the Faith Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Nadean Brown Joseph; two sons, Michael Joseph of Prestonsburg and Jeffery Bryan Joseph of Martin; six brothers, Morgan Joseph, Bob Joseph, Ronnie Joseph, Charles “Buck” Joseph and Phillip Morgan Joseph, all of Prestonsburg, and Ashland Joseph of Ashland; six sisters, Christine Deaton of Paintsville, and Meda Jo Yates, Betty Calhoun, Barbara Joseph, Tina McGaffey and Geraldine Lemaster, all of Prestonsburg; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 7, at Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Clinton “Buddy” Jones officiating.
Burial followed in the Richmond Cemetery at Prestonsburg.
Elizabeth Osborne

Funeral services were held Monday, November 6, for Elizabeth Osborne, 81, who died November 3.
Mrs. Osborne was born November 5, 1918, in Johnson County, to the late Ferret and Ethel Bayes Stambaugh. She was a restaurant worker.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Flem Osborne, on April 30, 1996; and a son, Charles Osborne.
Surviving are one son, Ben Osborne of Chandlersville; one daughter, Barbara Quillen of Stambaugh; one stepdaughter, Kathleen Osborne of Salyersville; and her stepmother, Malta Stambaugh of Stambaugh.
Officiating at services at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel were James Kelly Caudill and Dick VanHoose.
Burial followed in Stambaugh Family Cemetery.
Marcella Salyers
1931-2000
Jones-Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Marcella Salyers, 69, who died Friday, November 2.
Mrs. Salyers was born April 30, 1931, in Johnson County, to the late Herbert and Fayne Stambaugh.
Surviving are six sons, Anthony Davis and Tom Ramey, both of Sitka, Lavonne Davis of Paintsville, Willie J. Davis Jr. of Georgia, Phillip Davis of Baltimore, Maryland, and Marcellus Smith; three daughters, Sandra K. Davis Howes of Baltimore, Janice Skyler of Florida and Donna Smith; one brother, Ivan Salyers of Louisville; one sister, Elwanda Salyers of Prestonsburg; and 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held November 6 at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial followed in Stapleton Cemetery.
Trimble Salyer
1912-2000
Trimble Ray Salyer, 87, died Friday, November 3, at Mountain Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Salyer was born November 25, 1912, at Flat Gap, to the late Wallace and Tersie Estep Salyer. He was a retired custodian from Flat Gap Elementary and a member of the Flat Gap Independent Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eula Salyer.
Surviving are two sons, Hobert of Flat Gap and Cobert of Hilliard, Ohio; two sisters, Ethel Rose of Flat Gap and Irene Beaver of Hilliard; and seven grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held November 5 at Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel, with Revs. Johnny Estep, Jeff Blanton and Gary Blanton officiating.
Burial followed in Sparks Cemetery at Flat Gap.
Charles Stapleton
1931-2000
Rev. Charles E. Stapleton, 69, died Friday, November 3, at his Stambaugh residence.
Mr. Stapleton was born June 7, 1931, in Johnson County, to the late Edgar and Lena Brown Stapleton. He was a bus driver for the Johnson County School System.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Green Stapleton; two daughters, Sandra Stapleton Thomas of Stambaugh and Debra Williams of Paintsville; one sister, Eloise Castle of Stambaugh; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held November 7 at Pigeon Enterprise Baptist Church, Oil Springs, with Ellis Hamilton, Chris Baldwin, Dick VanHoose, Eugene Dickerson and Doug Murray officiating.
Burial followed in the family cemetery at Stambaugh, with Jones-Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Maxine Daniels

Van Lear resident Maxine Boyd Daniels, 76, died Saturday, November 4, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Daniels was born September 18, 1924, in Johnson County, to the late Jess and Alka Adkins Boyd.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Daniels.
Surviving are two sons, Jimmie Daniels of Oil Springs and Paul Vencil Daniels of Danville; one daughter, Pat Coleman of Paintsville; one sister, Josephine Napier of Thelma; and eight grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 6, at Christ Freedom Worship Center, Hager Hill, with Steve Rose and Paul David Coleman officiating.
Burial followed in Pine Hill Cemetery at Thelma, with Jones-Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Geneva Lewis

Paintsville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Geneva Lewis, 70, who died Sunday, November 5, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Lewis was born September 24, 1930, in Johnson County, to the late Noah and Cordie May Spradlin. She was a member of Little Mud Lick Church of God.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Don Lewis; one brother, William T. Spradlin; and a sister, Lillie Marie Wiley.
Surviving are three sons, Carl Lewis of Van Lear, Jim Lewis of Louisville and David Lewis of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Delores Hicks and Debbie Hatfield, both of Paintsville; one brother, James O. Spradlin of Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Loretta Persch of Houston, Texas; and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Little Mud Lick Church of God, with Revs. Tobe Wheeler and Terry Lykins and Brother Ken Hatfield officiating.
Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
Delmere Allen

Delmere Allen, 78, of Paintsville, died Saturday, November 4, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Allen was born April 10, 1922, at Wisemantown, to Dee and Pearl Witt Allen. He was a mechanic for Adams Construction and a World War II veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Marion Hodel Allen.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 7, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Trevor Belcher officiating.
Burial followed in Mayo Cemetery at Paintsville.
Milford Pelphrey Jr.
1927-2000
Funeral services will be held today, Friday, for Milford Pelphrey Jr., 73, of Thelma, who died Tuesday, November 21, at St. Marys Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia.
Mr. Pelphrey was born September 19, 1927, in Johnson County, to the late Milford and Rosie Blair Pelphrey. He was a veteran of the Army.
Surviving are two sons, Billy Ray Adams of Silver Lake, Indiana, and Larry Joe Adams of Bucyrus, Ohio; one daughter, Tanya Jean Auxier of Van Lear; four brothers, Lowell Pelphrey of East Point, Clarence Pelphrey of Meally, Larry Jo Pelphrey of Martha and Kenneth Pelphrey of Austin, Texas; three sisters, Mary Ann McFaddin of Paintsville, and Madonna Borders and Sue Woods, both of Columbus, Ohio; and nine grandchildren.
Officiating at 11 a.m. services at Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Hager Hill, will be Roger Hill and Kenny Collins.
