Lucille Patton
1918-2001
Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Lucille Wells Patton, 82, who died Saturday, January 20, at Prestonsburg Health Care.
Mrs. Patton was born February 16, 1918, in Floyd County, to the late Richard Marion and Fannie Lee Richmond Wells. She was a retired assembly line worker from Irvin Airchute.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie H. Patton, on March 1, 1983.
Surviving are one son, Roger Dean Patton of Decatur, Alabama; two daughters, Karen Lynn Howard of Auxier and Charlene P. Muncy of Williamsport; two sisters, Mildred Sturgill and Beatrice Childers, both of Auxier; and six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Auxier Freewill Baptist Church with Bobby Spencer and Calvin Setser officiating.
Burial followed in Auxier Relocation Cemetery at Auxier.

Charles Akers
1918-2001
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, January 24, for Charles Nathaneal Akers, 82, who died Sunday at his East Point residence.
Mr. Akers was born September 27, 1918, in Floyd County, to the late George and Mary Hughes Akers. He was a coal miner and veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Julia Lorane Stanley Akers, on January 17, 1966.
Surviving are two sons, Roger of East Point and Charles of Seville, Ohio; three daughters, Beulah Ann Greene, Scarlet Shepherd and Cindy Estepp, all of East Point; one sister, Belva Howell of Prestonsburg; and nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Officiating at 11 a.m. services at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel will be J.M. Sloce.
Burial will follow in Akers Family Cemetery at East Point.

Lorraine Wiley
1906-2001
Former Johnson County resident Lorraine Clay Wiley, 94, died Monday, January 22, in Paris.
Mrs. Wiley was born October 27, 1906, in Paintsville, to the late Elmon M. and Carolyn Vaughan Clay. She was a retired teacher from Paintsville High School after 40+ years and a member of First United Methodist Church of Paintsville.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hansel Tobe Wiley; one sister, Sarah Clay Womack; and a brother, E. Max Clay.
Surviving are one daughter, Sarah Wiley Stephens of Paris; one sister, Jane Clay Bailey of Paintsville; several nieces and nephews; and a devoted companion, Virginia Hopkins Gaunce.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 25, at 11 a.m. at Mayo Cemetery in Paintsville, with Revs. Michael E. Carlisle and Terry Reffett officiating.
Hinton-Turner Funeral Home of Paris is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell Museum of Paris, Paris Animal Welfare Society or one’s favorite charity.

Francis Castle
1928-2001
Francis Castle, 72, of Marion, Ohio, died Sunday, January 21.
Mr. Castle was born April 1, 1928, in Johnson County, to the late Ervin and Amanda Slone Castle. He worked at Huber Manufacturing for 29 years, retired from Columbus State Community College where he served as a campus police officer for 12 years, was a member of Berean Baptist Church and National Guard Retirees Association, pioneer of the Auxiliary Sheriff’s Department and former member of Marion City Police Auxiliary, served in the Huber Memorial Association and was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the National Guard Association.
Surviving are his wife, E. Louise Castle; three sons, Frank of Paintsville, James of Mansfield, Ohio, and Robert of Marion; two daughters, Sharon Mills of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Dianna Call of Marion; one brother, William “Bud” Castle of Cardington, Ohio; three sisters, Sue DeLong of Paris and Alice Horne and Roberta Castle, both of Obetz, Ohio; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Berean Baptist Church of Marion, with James Castle and Charles Reed officiating.
Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery.

Cynthia Bayes
1923-2001
Staffordsville resident Cynthia Bayes, 77, died Sunday, January 21, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Bayes was born February 21, 1923, in Johnson County, to the late John Henry and Pearlie Holbrook Fyffe.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Tollie Bayes, in 1983.
Surviving are two daughters, Edith Fairchild and Judy Music, both of Staffordsville; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Dick VanHoose officiating.
Burial will follow in Staffordsville Church Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Billie Arrowood
1930-2001
Billie F. Arrowood, 70, of Medina, Ohio, formerly of Johnson County, died Monday, January 22, at Select Specialty Care of Barberton.
Mrs. Arrowood was born August 13, 1930, at Oil Springs, to the late Parris and Goldie Gullett Blair.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Arrowood; one daughter, Carolyn Madden; one granddaughter, Leigh Ann Madden; and four brothers.
Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Barrett of Medina; two brothers, Jim Blair of Oil Springs and Forest Blair of Largo, Florida; five sisters, Mary Prater, Jo Wireman and Armatha McFaddin, all of Oil Springs, Jean Conley of Staffordsville, and Edna Rowland of Chippewa Lake, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Thursday, at 11 a.m. at Waite & Son Funeral Homes of Medina, with Rev. Jack Haggerty officiating.
Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Hester Price
1916-2000
Hester Price , 84, of Paintsville, died Sunday, January 7.
Mrs. Price was born October 16, 1916, in Johnson County, to the late Sylvin and Laura Reynolds Lewis.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Price , in 1995.
Surviving are four sons, James Kenneth Price of Thelma, Joe M. Price of Wilmore, Edward F. Price of Panama City, Florida, and Jerry Price of Kingsport, Tennessee; one daughter, Jetta Preston of Thelma; two brothers, Mack Lewis of West Van Lear and Bill Lewis of Xenia, Ohio; three sisters, Gladys Burke of Van Lear and Josephine Brown and Mary Lou Stafford, both of Lexington; and 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 10, at Concord United Baptist Church, with Bruce Howard, John R. Pelphrey and Charles Price officiating.
Burial followed in Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffords-ville, with Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Chalmer Blevins
1923-2000
Funeral services will be held today, Friday, January 12, for Chalmer Blevins, 77, of Prestonsburg, who died Tuesday at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Blevins was born August 11, 1923, in Johnson County, to the late Smith and Clara Adams Blevins. He was a self-employed taxi driver and Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lee Blevins; one daughter, Judy Jones of Ypsilanti, Michigan; one sister, Phyllis Jean Ford of Staffordsville; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Officiating at 11 a.m. services at Tom’s Creek Free Will Baptist Church will be James Kelly Caudill and Larry Smith.
Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, with Jones-Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Albert James
1922-2000
Jones-Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Albert Richard James, 78, of Betsy Layne, who died Wednesday, January 10.
Mr. James was born April 10, 1922, in Vernal, Utah, to the late Cecil Millard and Myrtle Anabell Johnson James. He was a self-employed vendor and U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth James, on February 25, 2000.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Archie Fugate officiating.
Burial followed in Marvin Sparks Cemetery at Blaine.

Ruby Daniels
1918-2000
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 17, for Ruby Daniels 82, who died Thursday, December 14, at her Hager Hill residence.
Mrs. Daniels was born October 8, 1918, in Johnson County, to the late David and Georgia Bolen Daniel.
She was also preceded in death by a husband, Everett L. Ratliff, in 1950; one son, Samuel Eddy Ratliff; one daughter, Phyllis Ann Ratliff; three brothers; and three sisters.
Surviving are her husband, William Daniels; five sons, Fred K. Ratliff, Charles Vencil Ratliff, Raymond E. Daniels and Danny D. Daniels, all of West Van Lear, and James E. Daniels of Staffordsville; two daughters, Joyce C. Hughes of Tampa, Florida, and Patricia Gail Perkins of Lowmansville; one brother, Charles Ray Daniel of Richmond, Virginia; and 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Officiating at services at Staf-fordsville Freewill Baptist Church were Mike Blanton, Jimmy Price and Ronnie Spriggs.
Burial followed in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.

Alice Osborne
1917-2001
Volga resident Alice Mae Osborne, 83, died Thursday, January 4, at her residence.
Mrs. Osborne was born December 3, 1917, in Johnson County, to the late Noah Kendrick and Martha Beulah Salyer.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Osborne, on October 22, 1975.
Surviving are three daughters, Beatrice Osborne, Maxine Brown and Ernestine VanHoose, all of Volga; and two sisters, Tera Williams of Flat Gap and Marie Runyon of Shepherdsville.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with William Paul Perkins, Wayne Fields and Jimmy Jennings officiating.
Burial followed in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.

Pauletta Jude
1955-2001
Pauletta Jude, 45, of Pilgrim, died Friday, January 5, at Bellefonte Hospital.
Mrs. Jude was born September 12, 1955, in Johnson County, to the late Paul and Zelda Kirk Johnson.
Surviving are her husband, Danny Jude; two sons, Gerry Clayton and Dean Tylor Jude, both of Pilgrim; one brother, Claude Allen Johnson of Paintsville; and one sister, Donna Carroll Stacey of Inez.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Phelps & Son Funeral Home, with Quentin Crum and Mike Crum officiating.
Burial followed at Reed Cemetery.

Julian Hall
1932-2001
Retired insurance agent Julian “J.B.” Hall, 68, died Friday, January 5, at his Oil Springs residence.
Mr. Hall was born January 20, 1932, in Floyd County, to the late James Harrison and Elsie Boyd Hall. He worked for Commonwealth Life Insurance.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Kenneth Hall.
Surviving are his wife, Toyleen Scott Hall; one son, Bryan Keith Hall of Oil Springs; one daughter, Deborah Lee Frasure of Meally; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Southside Freewill Baptist Church, with Revs. Wayne Price and Larry Smith officiating.
Burial followed in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.

Zora Sparks
1904-2001
Jones-Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Zora Ann Sparks, 96, who died Saturday, January 6, at Mountain Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Sparks was born June 5, 1904, to the late George and Mary Ramey Green.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Tolvie Sparks, in 1983.
Surviving are four sons, Kenneth and Sammie Sparks, both of River, Homer Sparks of Grove City, Ohio, and Ray Sparks of Columbus, Ohio; three daughters, Ella Mae Scarberry, Alice Scarberry and Ivory Daniels, all of River; and 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Gail Music and Jimmy McKenzie officiating.
Burial followed in McKenzie Family Cemetery at Lowmansville.
