Iva Joy Meade, 90, died Monday, March 19, at J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center, Lawrence County.
Mrs. Meade was born November 6, 1910, at Manila, to the late George G. and Lula Salyers Auxier. She was a co-owner of Meade’s Market and a member of Louisa Freewill Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, John C. Meade, in 1984.
Surviving are three daughters, Juanita Martin of Flatwoods, Doris Wilson of Westerville, Ohio, and Mary McCarty of St. Clair Shores, Michigan; one brother, Chester Auxier of Keaton; three sisters, Ruth Hays of Dayton, Ohio, Pauline Auxier Meek of Hillard, Ohio, and Irene Britton of Louisa; and 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Young Funeral Home Chapel, Louisa, with Revs. James A. Hayes, Tim York and Vennie VanHoose officiating.
Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery, Louisa.
Sarah Hettinger
1934-2001
Former Johnson County resident Sarah E. Neal Hettinger, 67, died Saturday, March 17, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mrs. Hettinger was born February 17, 1934, in Johnson County, to the late Ernest and Frances Neal.
Surviving are her husband, Dale A. Hettinger; three sons, Dale Neal of Santa Clarita, California, Frank Lloyd Neal of Sylmar, California, and Glen Alan Neal of Stevenson Ranch, California; one brother, Joe Neal of Paintsville; one sister, Mary Alice Neal of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Friday, at Riverside National Cemetery Chapel, with burial to follow in Riverside National Cemetery.

Silvia Slone
1915-2001
Funeral services will be held today, Friday, for Silvia Jane Slone, 86, who died Wednesday, March 21, at Mountain Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Slone was born July 2, 1915, in Johnson County, to the late Proctor and Laura Harris Slone. She was a member of Sitka Freewill Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Slone, on February 10, 1996.
Surviving are one son, Graden Slone of Sitka; one daughter, Pamela Diane O’Bryan of Sitka; and 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Officiating at 11 a.m. services at Sitka Freewill Baptist Church, will be Jim McKenzie.
Burial will follow in Slone Cemetery at Sitka, with Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
John Music
1915-2001
Former Johnson County resident John L. Music, 86, died Saturday, March 17, at Woodland Oaks Nursing Home, Ashland.
Mr. Music was born February 27, 1915, to the late John Wesley and Sola Spradlin Music. He was a retired repairman from Allied Chemical-Cement Solvey Division and a member of Flatwoods Church of Christ.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, June Osborne Music.
Surviving are two sons, Donald of Raceland and Ronald of Ashland; one daughter, Linda M. Moore of Paintsville; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 20, at Flatwoods Church of Christ, with John M. Brown officiating.
Burial followed in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, with Carman Funeral Home of Flatwoods in charge of arrangements.
Polly Wiseman
1951-2001
Polly Charlene Woods Wiseman, 49, formerly of Johnson County, died Thursday, March 15, at her Middleport, Ohio, residence.
Mrs. Wiseman was born September 24, 1951, in Johnson County, to the late John and Gertie Arms Woods.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta Knapp and Pat Meek.
Surviving are her husband, Greg Wiseman; two sons, Richard E. Green of Columbus, Ohio, and Charles E. Green of Dublin, Ohio; three daughters, Tammy R. Green of Dublin, Sally J. Green of Columbus and Brittany L. Wiseman of Tiffin, Ohio; three brothers, Jim Woods of West Van Lear, Larry Woods of Meally and Charles Woods of Ohio; and three sisters, Dottie Hamilton of Red Bush, Mary Shell of Paintsville and Joan Root of Ohio.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Joel Hardin officiating.
Burial followed in Fraley Family Cemetery at Paintsville.
Gladys Hazelett
1915-2001
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 18, for Gladys Lee Hazelett, 86, who died Wednesday in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Mrs. Hazelett was born February 24, 1915, in Johnson County, to the late Edward and Minnie Spears Lee.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Marvin, Roy, Norman and Edward Jr.; and a sister, Grace Lee.
Surviving are her husband, Sammie Hazelett; one daughter, Judith Jones of Ypsilanti; two sisters, Pauline Salyers of Paintsville and Mary Blevins of Prestonsburg; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Officiating at services at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel were Dick VanHoose and Steve Hazelett.
Burial followed in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
Juanita Franklin
1946-2001
Retired deputy clerk Juanita Joyce Franklin, 54, died Monday, March 12, at her Staffordsville residence.
Mrs. Franklin was born August 29, 1946, in Johnson County, to Farrell and Lorraine Blair Hannah.
Surviving are her husband, Irvin Franklin; one son, Billy Joe Blair of Lexington; one stepson, Michael Thomas Franklin of Collinsville, Oklahoma; one stepdaughter, Lisa Ellen Castle of Phoenix, Arizona; and three sisters, Iva Lemaster of Leander, Brenda Lewis of Paintsville and Linda Cochran of Findlay, Ohio.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Rockhouse Freewill Baptist Church, with Richard Williams, Paul Wayne Browning, Donald Ray Caudill and Dick VanHoose officiating.
Burial followed in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
Rupert Blanton
1908-2001
Oil Springs resident Rupert Blanton, 92, died Monday, March 12, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Blanton was born October 24, 1908, in Salyersville, to the late Amos and Florence Blanton. He was a livestock dealer.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marie Blanton.
Surviving are one daughter, Shirley A. Blevins of Springfield, Ohio; and one granddaughter and one great-great-granddaughter.
Graveside services were held Thursday at Johnson County Memorial Cemetery.

James Conley
1937-2001
Former Johnson County resident James Orville Conley, 63, of Washington Courthouse, Ohio, died Tuesday, March 13, at his residence.
Mr. Conley was born December 26, 1937, in Johnson County, to the late Smith and Grace Preston Conley. He was a member of Eagles Lodge #423 and VFW Post 3762.
He was also preceded in death by a stepson, Chad Keller.
Surviving are his wife, Vicki Conley; one son, James William Conley of Houston, Texas; one stepson, Christopher Keller of Washington Courthouse, Ohio; two daughters, Toni Renwell and Grace Kearns, both of Washington Courthouse; and 11 grandchildren.

Robert Burks
1919-2001
Retired miner Robert Burks, 82, died Sunday, March 11, at his Tutor Key residence.
Mr. Burks was born June 10, 1919, in Johnson County, to the late Ora and Hannah Sparks Burks.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hale Burks, in 1985.
Surviving are three sons, Carl, Marvin and Ellis Burks, all of Wittensville; four daughters, Nancy Castle of Tutor Key, Dells May Ratliff of Staffordsville, Faye Castle of Wittensville and Juanita Foster of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Murlie Owens of Columbus; and 44 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Kerz Enterprise Baptist Church, with J.K. Caudill and Paul Dean Meade officiating.
Burial followed in Osborne Cemetery at Sitka, with Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Raymond Johnson
1925-2001
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 13, for Raymond Johnson, 76, who died Saturday, March 10, in Columbus, Ohio.
Mr. Johnson was born January 1, 1925, in South Point, Ohio, to the late Jack and Adilla Johnson. He was an Army veteran.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Easter Ann Johnson, on May 16, 1989.
Surviving are two sons, Gary Roger and Kevin Charles Johnson, both of Boons Camp; three daughters, Deborah Kay Caramazza of Grove City, Ohio, Theresa Ann Rhodes of Columbus and Mary Elaine Johnson of Ironton, Ohio; and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Officiating at 2 p.m. services at Preston Funeral Home Chapel was B. Joe Bill.
Burial followed in Preston Family Cemetery at Boons Camp.
Darlene Anderson

Darlene Ruth Anderson, 40, of New Carlisle, Ohio, died Friday, March 9, at Kettering Medical Center.
Mrs. Anderson was born November 17, 1960, in Ohio, to Darrell and Sarah Fairchild Brown. She was a registered nurse.
Surviving are her husband, Tommy Anderson of New Carlisle, Ohio; one daughter, Emily Anderson of New Carlisle; her father and stepmother, Darrell and Pat Brown of New Carlisle; her mother, Sarah Brown, of Springfield; grandmother, Elaine Brown of Leander; grandfather, Roy Fairchild of Allensville, Ohio; grandmother, Arvie Fairchild of Allensville; stepgrandmother, Amy Crace of Springboro, Ohio; one brother, Robert Brown of Tipp City, Ohio; two sisters, Debbie Reichert of New Carlisle and Sheila Pierson of Springfield; and two stepbrothers, Jeremy and Nathan Allen, both of New Carlisle.
Funeral services were held Monday at Trostel, Chapman & Christmas Funeral Home of Ohio, with Rev. Joe Karns officiating.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Brown Family Cemetery, Leander, with Elders Jerry Colvin and Gene May officiating.

Anna Meeks

Williamsport resident Anna Belle Meeks, 80, died Wednesday, March 7, in Jolin Health Center, Ironton, Ohio.
Mrs. Meeks was born March 3, 1921, in Johnson County, to the late James and Virgie Spears Meeks.
Surviving are one brother, Otto Earl Meeks of Springfield, Ohio; and five sisters, Erma Gallagher and Verna Stultz, both of Springfield, Willa Condo and Betty Zelnik, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Frances Sheets of Russell.
Funeral services were held Friday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dick VanHoose officiating.
Burial followed in Meeks Family Cemetery at Boons Camp.
Ollie Sallows

Paintsville resident Ollie Sallows, 82, died Friday, March 9, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Sallows was born May 25, 1918, in Pike County, to the late Samuel and Pite Lowe Canada.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Booth.
Surviving are a sister, Sally James of Shady Springs, West Virginia.
