Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 30, 1 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Paintsville, Ky., for William R. Murphy, 58, of Van Lear, Ky., who passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27 at the Salyersville Nursing Home.
Mr. Murphy was born May 28, 1947 in Johnson County, Ky., son of the late Max and Annie Blair Murphy.
Surviving are one brother, Mike Murphy, and one sister, Jackie Jean Murphy, both of Van Lear.
The service will be officiated by Roger Hill, with burial in the Murphy Family Cemetery.

Buddy Meade Jr.
1962-2005
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 15, 11 a.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for Buddy Meade Jr., 43, of Oil Springs, Ky., who passed away Monday, Dec. 12 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville, Ky.
Mr. Meade was born May 7, 1962 in Johnson County, Ky., son of Buddy and Dora Baldwin Meade of Oil Springs. He was an employee with Basin Energy.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his son, Buddy Nathan Meade of Oil Springs; one daughter, Amanda Staton of Louisa, Ky.; one brother, Mark Meade of Oil Springs; three sisters, Terri Hill, Mary Ann Blanton, and Trish Meade, all of Oil Springs; and three grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Elders James R. Blair, Paul Castle and Douglas Ward, with burial in the Baldwin cemetery at Oil Springs.

Daniel Taylor Harman

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 12, 12:30 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Daniel Taylor Harman, 20, of Hager Hill, Ky., who passed away Friday, Dec. 9 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.
Mr. Harman was born Dec. 4, 1985 in Frankfort, Ky., son of Dan Harman of Frankfort and Tammy Tackett Spears of Hager Hill. He was a telemarketer at Millennium Communications.
Surviving in addition to his parents are one sister, Tapanga Tackett of Hager Hill; his paternal grandmother, Martha Lewis of West Van Lear, Ky., and his maternal grandmother, Jeraldean Tackett of Hager Hill; and three aunts, two uncles, and several cousins.
The service was officiated by James Kelly Caudill, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Ky.

Darrell Eugene Puckett

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 15, 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Darrell Eugene Puckett, of Paintsville, Ky., who passed away Monday, Dec. 12 at his residence.
Mr. Puckett was born April 1, 1954 in Johnson County, Ky., son of Christine Castle Puckett and the late James Henry Puckett. He was a U.S. Marine veteran.
Surviving in addition to his mother are one daughter, Isabella Jean Puckett King of Auxier, Ky.; one brother, James K. Puckett of Lexington, Ky.; one sister, Donna Williams of Paintsville; and one grandson, Kaleb S. Puckett.
The service was officiated by Phillip Caudill, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Ky.

Faye Vertrice Castle

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 18, 1 p.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for Faye Vertrice Castle, 88, of Paintsville, Ky., who passed away Thursday, Dec. 15 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mrs. Castle was born April 1, 1917 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of the late Kenis and Ida Rice VanHoose. She was a retired sales clerk with the Carolyn Clay Dress Shop. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Castle, and one brother, Dr. Edgel VanHoose.
Surviving are one brother, K. Douglas VanHoose of Paintsville; one sister, Wava Lemaster of Palm Coast, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
The service was officiated by the Revs. Dan Heaberlin, Roy Peniz and M.T. Womack Jr., with burial in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Ky.

Freda Sue Hayden

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 18, 2 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Freda Sue Hayden, 60, of Van Lear, Ky., who passed away Friday, Dec. 16 at her residence.
Mrs. Hayden was born Sept. 9, 1945 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of the late Fred and Margaret Blair Hannah.
Surviving are her husband, Lloyd Hayden of Van Lear; two sons, Lloyd Michael and Lacy Daniel Hayden, both of Van Lear; seven sisters, Juanita Lilly of East Point, Ky., Elleween Witten, Betty Hatfield, and Mary Filowiat, all of Van Lear, Nora Lean James of Michigan, Francis Colvin of Sitka, Ky., and Erma Tidwell of Tennessee; and four grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Roger Hill and Kenny Collins, with burial in the Gethsemane Gardens at Prestonsburg, Ky.

Gary Dale ‘Ferg’ Ferguson

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 16, 1 p.m. at the Cornerstone Christian Center at Dingess, W.Va., for Gary Dale “Ferg” Ferguson, 57, of Breeden, W.Va., who passed away Monday, Dec. 12 at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Ferguson was born June 22, 1948 in Louisa, Ky., son of Lowell Ferguson of West Liberty, Ky., and the late Erma Skaggs Ferguson. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Fay Marcum. He was an employee of Argus Coal Company.
Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Shennie Marcum Ferguson; three daughters, Stephanie (Brian) Owens of San Mateo, Calif., Tonya Ferguson of Mountain View, Calif., and Carra (Lance) Ferguson of Elk Grove, Calif.; one son, Gary Michael (Stephanie) Ferguson of Summerville, S.C.; one sister, Angela (Emerson) Ferguson of West Liberty, Ky.; three brothers, Jerry (Penny) Ferguson of Elkfork, Ky., Joey (Charlene) Ferguson of West Liberty, and Anthony (Teresa) Ferguson of Morehead, Ky.; and four grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Ministers Lonnie Gore and Eddie Smith, with burial following in the Marcum cemetery at Breeden, W.Va.

Jennie Marie Elam

Funeral services were conducted in Ohio for Jennie Marie Elam, 82, of Sitka, Ky., who passed away Monday, Dec. 19 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville, Ky.
Mrs. Elam was born Nov. 23, 1923 in Madison County, Ohio, daughter of the late Walter F. and Margery Ames Clemens. She was a hairdresser. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wavel Pilgrim Elam.
Surviving are two son, Steve L. and Wavel L. Elam, both of London, Ohio; two daughters, Pauline M. VanHoose of Sitka and Janice Y. Pauli of Columbus, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held at the Sitka Free Will Baptist Church at Sitka.
