Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 25, 1 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home in Paintsville, Ky., for Lorrie Melvin, 33, of Van Lear, Ky., who passed away Thursday, March 23 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
Mrs. Melvin was born May 1, 1972 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of Pearl Fannin Harris of West Van Lear, Ky., and the late James Alan Harris.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, James Melvin of Van Lear; two sons, Robert Allen Harris of West Van Lear and James Levi Melvin of Van Lear; and one sister, Debbie Reffett of Arkansas.
The service will be officiated by Manford Fannin and Paul Wayne Browning, with burial in the Lakeview Memorial Cem-etery at Staffordsville, Ky.

Darcus Wheeler VanHoose
1922-2006
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 23, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home for Darcus Wheeler VanHoose, 83, of Paintsville, Ky., who passed way Tuesday, March 21 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mrs. VanHoose was born Sept. 8, 1922 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of the late Frank and Bessie Picklesimer Wheeler. She was retired from housekeeping with the Paintsville Hospital. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bernard VanHoose; two brothers, William and Estill Castle; and one great-grandchild.
Surviving are one son, Harold VanHoose of Waverly, Ohio; three daughters, Wanda Wells of Van Lear, Ky., Pina Kilgore of Tutor Key, Ky., and Monnie Kestner of Paintsville; one brother, L. Joe Castle of Wurtland, Ky.; five sisters, Marie Adams and Mae Little, both of Flatwoods, Ky., Darlene Castle of Ashland, Ky., Mabel Castle of Paintsville, and Phyllis Brown of Catlettsburg, Ky.; and 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The service will be officiated by Gary Blair and Lee Music, with burial in the Lakeview Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville, Ky.

Dorothy Mae ‘Dot’ Castle Auxier
Funeral services were held Monday, March 20, 1 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison, Ind. for Dorothy Mae “Dot” Castle Auxier of Madison, who passed away Wednesday, March 15 at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky.
Mrs. Auxier was born in Fort Gay, W.Va., the daughter of the late Albert and Hulda Castle Wilson. She was a 1942 graduate of Paintsville High School in Paintsville, Ky. She was also preceded in death by her maternal uncle and aunt, who raised her, Lewis and Burbridge Brown Castle; her husband, James B. Auxier; four half-sisters, who died at birth; her sisters, Lillie Butcher and Ruth Lyons; her half-brother, Taylor Wilson; and her special cousin, Carl Castle.
Surviving are one daughter, Sharon Elaine Auxier of Madison; one son, James Barry (Suzette) Auxier of Madison; one brother, Col. Jack C. Castle (retired) of Paintsville; Chilton “Cork” Castle of Joinersville, Texas; five half-brothers, James Wilson of Dallas, Texas, John Wilson of Smyrna, Tenn., Woodrow Wilson of Cedar Creek, Texas, Albert Wilson Jr. of Swannoa, N.C., and Franklin Wilson of Erwin, Tenn.; three half-sisters, Lola Gary of Harriam, Tenn., Edith Charles of Indianapolis, Ind., and Ruby Hunter of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her cousin, Earl Castle of Prestonsburg, Ky.; three grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandson; many nieces and nephews; and a very special close friend of the family, Marilyn McQueen.
The service was officiated by Pastor Mark Thomas, with interment at the New Prospect cemetery in Saluda, Ind.

Escom Chandler
1910-2006
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 19, 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Paintsville, Ky., for Escom Chandler, 95, of Paintsville, who passed away Friday, March 17 at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Ky.
Mr. Chandler was born Nov. 30, 1910 at Flat Gap, Ky., son of the late Frank and Mary Jane Hamilton Chandler. He was owner of the Paintsville Dry Cleaners and Laundry, a member of the First Baptist Church, a member of Kiwanis Club, a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, and former mayor of Paintsville.
Surviving are his wife, Emogene Burton of Paintsville; one step-son, Roger (Debbie) Burton of Nippa, Ky.; one step-granddaughter, Dawn (Mike) Stewart of Nippa; one step-great-granddaughter, Madison Kate Stewart of Nippa; and one brother, Jim (Julia Mary) Chandler of Vadalia, Ga.
The service was officiated by the Revs. Donnie Patrick and Larry O’Bryan, with burial in the Mayo cemetery at Paintsville.

Mary Elizabeth Trimble

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 18, 1 p.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Paintsville, Ky., for Mary Elizabeth Trimble, 84, of Staffordsville, Ky., who passed away Wednesday, March 15 at Mountain Manor Nursing Home in Paintsville.
Mrs. Trimble was born May 28, 1921, daughter of the late Ballard “Son” and Bertha McCloud Fairchild. She was a salesclerk with Hobbs 5 & 10 Cent Store in Paintsville. She was also preceded in death by one son, Davis Reed Trimble Jr., and one sister, Irene Clatos.
Surviving are her husband, Davis Reed Trimble of Paintsville; two sons, Jackie Trimble of Paintsville and Robert Trimble of Meally, Ky.; one sister, Pauline Burnett of Barboursville, W.Va.; and three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by the Revs. Larry Blair and Jim McKenzie, with burial in the Reed cemetery on Rt. 580 at Staffordsville, Ky.

Susie Murphy Ward

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 19 at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home for Susie Murphy Ward, 93, of Wittensville, Ky., who passed away Thursday, March 16 at Salyersville Health Care Center in Salyersville, Ky.
Mrs. Ward was born Sept. 24, 1912 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of the late Henry and Julie Meadows Murphy. She was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sampson Ward, and one son, Lowell Thomas Ward.
Surviving are two sons, Sampson Ward Jr. of California and Arthur Wayne Ward; two daughters, Alice Lell VanHoose of Wittensville and Julie Marie Blevins Masse of Springfield, Ohio; and seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by James Kelly Caudill, with burial in the Stambaugh cemetery at Stambaugh, Ky.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 3, 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Annabelle Dixon Daniel, 86, who passed away Sunday, May 28 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Mrs. Daniel was born Jan. 9, 1920 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of the late Rolla and Lilli Conley Dixon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Buell Dixon, and one brother, Garland Dixon.
Surviving are one sister, Dorothy Shroyer of Kentucky; two nephews, Roger (Carolyn) Dixon of Hopkins, Mich., and Ken (Gale) Dixon of Ohio; one niece, Marcia Helton of Kentucky; and two sisters-in-law, Aileen Dixon of Kentucky and Zona Songer of Paintsville, Ky.
The service was officiated by Larry O’Brian, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Ky.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 11, 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Paintsville, Ky., for Annette Dale Donaldson Justice, 83, of Paintsville, who passed away Friday, June 2 at her residence.
Mrs. Justice was born Aug. 16, 1922 in Pike County, Ky., daughter of the late Clarence Donaldson and Laura Pratt. She was a retired Paintsville City Clerk. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Quentin Justice, and one son, Kenneth Justice.
Surviving are three sons, Danny Q. (Gatha) and John L. (Liddie) Justice, both of Pikeville, Ky., and Tom D. (Brenda) Justice of Pasadena, Texas; one brother, Bill Donaldson of Franklin, N.C.; one sister, Bobbie Donaldson Rogers of Pikeville; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
