Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 5, 2 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Daniel Clay Pennington, 18, of Hager Hill, Ky., who passed away Friday, Feb. 27.
Mr. Pennington was born March 3, 1990 In Paintsville, Ky., son of Danny and Glenia Ratliff Pennington. He was a student. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lee and Ella May Ratliff.
Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters, Misty Dawn Pennington of Hager Hill, and Allison Brooklyn Whited of Prestonsburg, Ky.; his paternal grandparents, Andy Pennington of Flat Gap, Ky., and Gonda Pennington of Oil Springs; his fianceé Whitney Gamble; one nephew, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The service will be officiated by Donald Ray Caudill, with burial following in the Lakeview Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville, Ky.

Dustin ‘D-Rod’
Lee Rodriguez

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 4, 1 p.m. at the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel for Dustin “D-Rod” Lee Rodriguez, 21, of Oil Springs, Ky., who passed away Friday, Feb. 27.
Mr. Rodriguez was born May 30, 1987, son of Robert and Valerie Rodriguez. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Reglardo Rodriguez.
Surviving in addition to his parents are one brother, Robert Dylan Rodriguez of Oil Springs; maternal grandparents, Vincin and Barbara Howard of Salyersville, Ky.; paternal grandmother, Donna Rodriguez; and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
The service will be officiated by Vince Caldwell, with burial following in the Rodriguez Family cemetery at Oil Springs.
Ival Sparks Conley
1916-2009
Funeral services were held Monday, March 2, 11 a.m. at the Kerz Baptist Church for Ival Sparks Conley, 93, of Flat Gap, Ky., who passed away Thursday, Feb. 26 at Mountain Manor Nursing Home in Paintsville, Ky.
Mrs. Conley was born Feb. 20, 1916 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of the late Powell and Ollie Murray Sparks. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Conley.
Surviving are five sons, Roger Sparks of Sitka, Ky., James David Sparks of Watertown, Tenn., Walter Lemaster of Lebanon, Tenn., Cecil Lemaster of Cherokee, Ala., and Bill Lemaster of Mt. Joliet, Tenn.; one daughter, Wanda McCoy of Pikeville, Ky.; one brother, Hollis Sparks of Sitka; four sisters, Inis Corgin, Flora Davis, Gusta Sparks, and Geneva Chapman, all of Sunbury, Ohio; and 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Dean Meade, Ellis Hamilton, and John Fred Ramey, with burial in the Sparks cemetery at Flat Gap.

Janet Lou Sartin Jarvis

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 5, noon at the Big Elk United Baptist Church for Janet Lou Sartin Jarvis, 58, of Inez, Ky., who passed away Monday, March 2 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
Mrs. Jarvis was born July 24, 1950 in Martin County, Ky., daughter of the late Johnny and Gladys Hale Sartin. She was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Jarvis; one step-son, Kenneth Ray Jarvis; and two brothers, Ronnie and Eugene Sartin.
Surviving are three children, Myrtle Sartin (Kevin) Alley, of Warfield, Ky., Chauncey (Anna) Sartin of Georgetown, Ky., and Jason Jarvis of Inez; one sister, Bertha (Charlie) Seberig of Inez; seven step-children, Mary (Orville) Hinkle of Mansfield, Ohio, Martha (Dallas) Sweeney and Anna (Mossie Dale) Horn, both of Inez, Thelma (Freddie) Fraley and Allen (Debbie) Jarvis, both of Louisa, Ky., Alma Booth of Paintsville, and Thomas Jarvis of Ashland, Ky.; and two grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Tim McCoy, Lonnie Ratliff and Joe Mullins, with burial in the Pinson Family cemetery at Inez, Ky.

Mary Katherine Ward

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 5, 1 p.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for Mary Katherine Ward, 77, of Van Lear, Ky., who passed away Sunday, March 1 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
Mrs. Ward was born Oct. 24, 1931 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of the late Johnny and Ella Dale Adams. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are one daughter, Geneva (Kevin) Pennington of Van Lear; two sisters, Delphia Page of Paintsville, and Mary Short of Emily City, Mich.; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by the Revs. Roger Hill and James Matthew Adams, with burial following in the Johnson County Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville, Ky.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 4, 11 a.m. at the Paintsville Church of Christ in Paintsville, Ky., for Mary K. Short, 79, of Hager Hill, Ky., who passed away Saturday, Feb. 28 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.
Mrs. Short was born July 23, 1929 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of the late Clyde and Southie Harman McKenzie. She was a self-employed business woman.
Surviving are her husband, Homer Short of Hager Hill; two sons, Gary Russell Short of Paris, Ky., and Matt Short of Paintsville; four daughters, Linda (Edward) Brady of Paris, Paula (David) Wright of Staffordsville, Ky., and Jodi (Dean) Preston and Alicia (Mark) McKenzie, both of Paintsville; two brothers, Clyde McKenzie of Meally, Ky., and Doug McKenzie of Staffordville; two sisters, Francis Delong of Hager Hill and Ada Pack of Paintsville; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Ken Chambers, David Wright, Mark McKenzie and Steve Trimble, with burial following in the Short Family cemetery at Hager Hill.

William Anthony Patrick

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 5, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for William Anthony Patrick, 21, of Oil Springs, Ky., who passed away Friday, Feb. 27.
Mr. Patrick was born Aug. 6, 1987 in Johnson County, Ky., son of Eddie Lee Patrick Sr. of Oil Springs and Nadine Howell Ratliff of Louisa, Ky. He was a body builder and an auto mechanic.
Surviving in addition to his parents are four brothers, Kevin Patrick of Oil Springs, Kenneth Howell of Lovely, Ky., Christopher Howell of Louisa, and Stephen Boatwright of Prestonsburg, Ky.; two sisters, Amanda Collins of Oil Springs and Sunshine Howell of South Carolina.
The service will be officiated by William Paul Perkins, with burial following in the Lakeview Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville, Ky.

Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Hackworth Merrell

Funeral services were held Monday, June 12, 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Jacqueline “Jackie” Hackworth Merrell, 46, of Fairview, N.C., formerly of Van Lear, Ky., who passed away Tuesday, June 6 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Ashville, N.C.
Mrs. Merrell was born Jan. 20, 1960 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of Edna Hannah Hackworth of Paintsville, Ky., and the late Albert Hackworth.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Samuel Merrell; two sons, A.J. Hamilton of Paintsville, and LCPL David Kelly Pennington of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; two brothers, Gary Hackworth of Paintsville, and Larry Hackworth of Rockhouse, Ky.; two daughters, Dianna Brown of Warren, Mich., and Debra Blair of Paintsville; eight nieces; and nephews and 10 great-nieces and nephews.
The service was officiated by Jeff Burchett, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Ky.
