Funeral services were held Monday, March 30, 1 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Mike Murphy, 60, of Van Lear, Ky., who passed away Friday, March 27 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville, Ky.
Mr. Murphy was born Dec. 31, 1948 in Johnson County, Ky., son fo the late Max and Annie Balir Murphy. He was also preceded in death by one brother, William “Bill” Murphy, and one sister, Clara Murphy.
Surviving are his sister, Jackie Jean Murphy (Gary L.) Gamble; and one nephew, Brian McCoart, all of Van Lear, Ky.
The service was officiated by Roger Hill, with burial following in the Annie Murphy cemetery at Van Lear.

Raymond Ratliff
1936-2009
Funeral services will be held April 2, 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Raymond Ratliff, 72, of Paintsville, Ky., who passed away Monday, March 30 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
Mr. Ratliff was born June 11, 1936 in Johnson County, Ky., son of the late Ad and Okie Pack Ratliff. He was a construction worker. He was also preceded in death by one son, Anthony Ratliff.
Surviving are his wife, Katherine Banks Ratliff of Paintsville; one son, Raymond Earl Ratliff of Paintsville; one daughter, Angela Ratliff of Paintsville; five brothers, Harvey Ratliff of Brighton, Mich., Steve and David Ratliff, both of Paintsville, Charlie Ratliff of Tutor Key, Ky., and Clyde Ratliff of Lawrence County, Ky.; three daughters, Virginia Risso of Paintsville, Margaret Blanton of Flat Gap, Ky., and Linda Hackworth of Bowling Green, Ky.; and four grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Willard “Red” VanHoose, with following in the Ratliff Family cemetery in Paintsville.

Sherry Lynn Bowen McFaddin
1965-2009
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 31, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Sherry Lynn Bowen McFaddin, 43, who passed away Friday, March 27 at Paul B. Regional Medical Center in Paintsville, Ky.
Ms. McFaddin was born Oct. 23, 1965 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of Shirley Dorton and the late Robert Bowen.
Surviving are two sons, Cody and Chastin McFaddin, both of Tornado, W.Va.; one daughter, Stephanie Flink of Paintsville; two brothers, Robert Bowen of LaFayette, Tenn., and Donnie Bowen of Paintsville; one step-sister, Melissa Castle; and three grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Roger Thornsbury, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Ky.

William 'Bill' Darwin Slone
1944-2009
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 23, 1 p.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for William "Bill" Darwin Slone, 64, of Hager Hill, Ky., who passed away Monday, April 20 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
Mr. Slone was born August 5, 1944, son of the late Dr. Augustus D. and Mary Malissa Wells Slone. He was a medical technologist. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Paintsville Masonic Lodge #381 F & AM.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Marion Rice Slone of Hager Hill; one daughter, Alicia Lea (Scott) Souther of Hager Hill; one son, William Ryan Slone of Calton, Ga.; one brother, James Seymour Slone of Atlanta, Ga.; and two granddaughters.
The service was officiated by Rev. Robert Coppings, with burial at the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Ky., with DAV Chapter 18 of Auxier, Ky. conducting military rites.
Jack Earl Vernon
1956-2009
Memorial services will be held at a later date for Jack Earl Vernon, 52, of Pilgrim, Ky., who passed away Wednesday, April 22.
Mr. Vernon was born June 3, 1956 in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of George L. Vernon of California and the late Nancy Carol Muncy Vernon. He was an employee of Evans Hardware in Inez, Ky. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Vadie Muncy.
Surviving in addition to his father are one son, Daniel Vernon of Pilgrim; one daughter, Amy Vernon of Louisa, Ky.; one brother, Timothy Vernon of Arizona; and one aunt, Ann Collier of Ashland, Ky.

Emily B. Preston
Services were held Wednesday, April 22, 10 a.m., at the Aycock Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, Fla., for Emily B. Preston, 91, of Barefoot Bay, Fla., who passed away Sunday, April 19 at Sebastian River Medical Center in Sebastian, Fla.
Mrs. Preston was born in Floyd County, Ky., formerly of Paintsville, Ky., and Sebastian, daughter of the late London B. and Cora C. Burke. She was a schoolteacher at Osceola Elementary School in Vero Beach, Fla., for 20 years, and a 1958 graduate of Morehead State University. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Watson Burke, and four sisters, Dixie Mullins, Maxie Fairchild, Rula Smith and Gerlie Coldiron.
Surviving are her husband, Paul Preston of Barefoot Bay; one son, Paul Preston Jr. of Boca Raton, Fla.; and one sister, Nadene Burke of Oil Springs, Ky.
Interment was at the Hillcrest Gardens in Fort Pierce.
Heather Diana Brown
A Celebration of Life service for Heather Dawn Brown, 30, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, formerly of West Van Lear, Ky., passed away at her residence. Surviving are her parents, John and Diana Booth Brown, and her brother, Robert Brown.
Services will be held today, Friday, April 24, 10 a.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following at Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Ky.

Dolpha McKenzie
1914-2009
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 17, at 11 a.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for Dolpha McKenzie, 95, of Flat Gap, who passed away May 15 at the Mountain Manor Nursing Home, Paintsville.
He was born March 12, 1914 at Volga, son of the late Joe Lee and Loucina Estep McKenzie.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Della Mae Blanton McKenzie.
He is survived by one daughter, Emma Gwendlen Cantrell, West Liberty; one sister, Delva Wheeler; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
The service was conducted by Elders Johnny Curtis, Eual McKenzie, Thoral Daniel and James R. Blair, with burial at Patty Flat Cemetery, Fuget.

Pansy Violet Combs Witten
1919-2009
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 23, at 2 p.m. at the Combs cemetery at Wittensville for Pansy Violet Combs Witten, 89, of Wittensville, who passed away March 25 at the Riverview Health Care in Prestonsburg.
She was born July 21, 1919, in Wittensville, daughter of the late Ben F. and Mae Rice Combs. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Witten.
She is survived by one brother, Morris (Janice) Combs, Ft. Calhun, Neb.; and one sister, Joy (Ronnie) Roach, Huntington, W. Va.; one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law.
The service was conducted by Wendell Combs with burial in the Combs cemetery at Wittensville.
