Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 26, noon at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Scottie J. Ratliff, 34, of River, Ky., who passed away Friday, Sept. 22 in Lawrence County, Ky.
Mr. Ratliff was born June 23, 1972 in Johnson County, Ky., son of J.L. Ratliff of River, and Gail Powell of Lexington, Ky. He was a heavy equipment operator.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Jennifer Wright Ratliff of River; one son, Scottie J. Ratliff of River; and three daughters, Christin Gail Ratliff of River, Tabitha Lynn Ratliff of Williamsport, Ky., and Shelby Ratliff of Thealka, Ky.
The service was officiated by Jim McKenzie, with burial in the Ratliff Family cemetery at River.

Flora Geneva Hamilton
1927-2006
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 2, 1 p.m. at the Upper Room Church for Flora Geneva Hamilton, 79, of Red Bush, Ky., who passed away Sunday, Oct. 29 at her residence.
Mrs. Hamilton was born March 27, 1927, daughter of the late James and Mary Jane Blythe Dusina. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are three sons, Greg Hamilton of Paintsville, Ky., John Hamilton of Relief, Ky., and George David Hamilton Jr. of Carleton, Mich.; one daughter, Mary Jane Logan of Belleville, Mich; one brother, Earl Dusina of Corbin, Ky.; one sister, Lorraine Schlierman of California; and nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by the Revs. Ernest Brock and Richard Holmes, with burial following in the Hamilton cemetery at Red Bush.

Irene Crabtree
1937-2006
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 30, 1 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home in Marysville, Ohio, for Irene Crabtree, 69, who passed away Saturday, Oct 28 at Doctors Hospital West.
Mrs. Crabtree was born Feb. 8, 1937 at Sitka, Ky., daughter of the late John Logan and Donnie McKenzie Salyer. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Bob Lemaster; three sisters, Betty Caudill, Bonnie Estep, and Faye Music; and her first husband, Norman South. She was a former employee of Marysville Brush Company and Shape Form of Plain City, Ohio, and sang gospel music on the radio in Paintsville in her youth.
Surviving are her husband, Dean D. Crabtree; her children, Ernest E. Jones of Milford Center, Ohio, Marsha J. Lowry, Charles Ray, Terry E. South, and Toni L. (Steve) North, all of Marysville; three sisters, Virginia (Jim) Estep of Marysville, Minnie Kay (Dick) Dingledine of Milford Center, and Lavon Jalene Wilcox of Kentucky; three brothers, Junior (Junie) Salyer, James (Pinky) Salyer, and Corvin Salyer, all of Kentucky; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews
The service was officiated by the Rev. Steve Wood, with burial in the Milford Center Cemetery.

Margie Rowland Robinson
1918-2006
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 29, 11 a.m. at the Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup, Ky., for Margie Rowland Robinson, 88, of Greenup, who passed away Thursday, Oct. 26 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
Mrs. Robinson was born Feb. 14, 1918 at White House, Ky., daughter of the late Rev. Dock and Stella Curtis Rowland. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willard “Jack” Robinson; two sisters, Hazel Lester and Elizabeth Sanders; and three brothers, Everett, James, and Clyde Rowland.
Surviving are one brother, the Rev. Earl (Dorothy) Rowland of Enon, Ohio; two sisters, Ruth Ratcliff of Ragland, W.Va., and Gladys Thompson of Lebanon, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Marie Roland of Paintsville, Ky.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
The service was officiated by the Revs. Ancil Carter and Buck Macintosh, with burial in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, Ky.

Heather Diane Brown
1978-2009
Heather Diane Brown (July 24, 1978 - April 17, 2009) of Elizabeth, New Jersey, passed away April 17, 2009, in Elizabeth. She was formerly of West Van Lear, Ky. She is the daughter of John and Diana Booth Brown of West Van Lear. She is also survived by one brother, Robert (Amy) Brown of Dublin, Ohio. Also surviving are two aunts, Carol Owens of Paintsville and Sandra Wattenberger of Nicholasville, Ky; one uncle, Everett R. Booth of Nashville, Tenn.; five great aunts and three great uncles; many cousins and a multitude of friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Everett (Cotton) and Grace Elsa Booth; her paternal grandparents, Claude and Neva Evelyn Brown; and one uncle, Carlie C. Brown.
Ms. Brown attended Paintsville Elementary and High School, graduating in 1996. She also attended Morehead State University, receiving a bachelors degree in music in 2000.
She attended William Patterson University in New Jersey where she received her masters degree in communications and media studies in 2004. She was last employed by the Union County school system for the superintendent’s office as public relations coordinator.
A Celebration of Life service was held at the Preston Funeral Home Thursday, April 23, from 5 until 9 p.m. with services continuing Friday morning, April 24 at 10 a.m., with burial at Highlands Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
Celebration of Life services were conducted by friends and family.

Wendell B. Parker
1931-2009
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 10, at the Ramey Branch Church for Wendell B. Parker, 77, who passed away May 6 at Flat Gap.
Mr. Parker was born Sept. 19, 1931 in Lawrence County, son of the late Miniard and Linda Ellen Ramey Parker. He was a salesman for the Paintsville Wholesale Comp-any.
He was survived by one son, Ryan Parker of Paintsville; three daughters, Heather Staniford of Flat Gap, Joanna Lyons of Wittensville, and Stephanie Parker of Lexington; two brothers, Jay T. Parker and Harry Parker Jr., both of Flat Gap; four sisters, Lizzie Harris of Paintsville, Marie Reeves of Ashland, Pauline Webb of Flat Gap, and Tora Evelyn Boggs of Hillard, Ohio; and six grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Denvil Mollette and Tim Salyers, with burial in the family cemetery at Flat Gap.

Gene Cantrell
1927-2009
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 10, in the chapel of Phelps and Son Funeral Home for Gene Cantrell, 81, who passed away May 8, at his home in West Van Lear.
Mr. Cantrell was born Nov. 15, 1927, son of the late Daniel and Carrie Mullins Cantrell. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Ester and Avis Cantrell; and two sisters, June Moma and Monica Cantrell.
He is survived by his wife, Flora Jones Cantrell; one son Terry Cantrell of Hager Hill; one daughter, Debra Puckett of Louisville; two sisters, Pat Harris of Van Lear and Trish Cantrell of South Carolina; and two grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Clarence LeMaster and Greg Coleman, with burial in the Johnson County Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville.

Wanetta Ward Setser
1916-2009
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 20, at 11 a.m. at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel, Morehead, for Wanetta Ward Setser, 83, Morehead, formerly from Van Lear, who passed away June 17, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 28, 1916, in Auxier, daughter of the late James Oliver and Sarah Agnes Ward.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Setser; and one brother, Quentin Ward. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Paintsville, a graduate of Van Lear High School, and a teacher in the Johnson County School system.
She is survived by one sister, Carlis Butcher, Van Lear; two sons, Howard (Jo Anne) Setser, Morehead, and James Lowell (Mary Helen) of Marietta, Ga. Six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The service will be conducted by Bruce Nettleton, with burial to follow in Brown Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Morehead United Methodist Church Building Fund, 227 W. Main St. Morehead, KY 40351.
