Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 6, 10 a.m. at the Little Friendship United Baptist Church for Marda Crum, 86, of Boons Camp, Ky., who passed away Sunday, March 4 at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Ky.
Mr. Crum was born Aug. 25, 1920 in Johnson County, Ky., son of the late Addie and Effie Penix Crum. He was a coal miner.
Surviving are his wife, Liz Brown Crum of Boons Camp; two sons, Ronald Crum of Midway, Ohio, and John Crum of Centerville, Ohio; two daughters, Joyce Staniford of Heber Heights, Ohio, and Janice Kay Lowe of Wabash, Ind.; one step-son, Greg Davis of Paris, Ky.; two step-daughters, Brenda Hatfield of McCar, Ky., and Libby Moore of Boons Camp; two sisters, Estarah Davis of Paintsville, Ky., and Janie Butcher of Williamsport, Ky.; and nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and nine step-grandchildren.
The service was officiated by Claude Mollette, Kenny Preece and Glen Penix, with burial in the Crum Family cemetery at Boons Camp.

Charles Edward Spears

Funeral services were held Monday, March 5, noon at the Highland Memorial Funeral Chapel for Charles Edward Spears, 80, of Hager Hill, Ky., who passed away Thursday, March 1 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.
Mr. Spears was born Nov. 20, 1926 in Johnson County, Ky., son of the late Marcus and Ida Spears. He was a yard master with CSX Railroad.
Surviving are his wife, Billie Marie Poole Spears of Hager Hill; two sisters, Emogene Spears of Hager Hill and Irene Spears Yates of Maryland; two sisters-in-law, Anna Sue Poole Wayland of Lexington, Ky., and Dodie Poole of Harold, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
The service was officiated by Toby Johnson, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Ky.

Robert P. Rowland
1932-2007
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 4, 11 a.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Robert P. Rowland, 74, of Staffordsville, Ky., who passed away Thursday, March 1 at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Ky.
Mr. Rowland was born April 10, 1932 in Johnson County, Ky., son of the late John and Virgie Sparks Rowland. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Joyce Rowland, and three brothers, Charles, Floyd and Loyd Rowland.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey E. Rowland; two sons, Robert Keith (Melinda) Rowland and John Earl Rowland; and four brothers, Bill, Joe, Mitchell, Jess Rowland.
The service was officiated by Leonard Alan Fannin, with burial in the Highland Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville, Ky.

Veronica Click

A Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, March 3, 10 a.m. at the LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home for Veronica Click, of Frankfort, Ky., who passed away Wednesday, Feb. 28 at her residence.
Mrs. Click was born in Long Island, N.Y., daughter of the late William Joseph and Teresa Coughlan Kinahan. She was a former registered nurse and a nursing instructor at Mayo Technical Nursing College in Paintsville, Ky., and at Pikeville College. She was also a member of Kentucky Retired Teachers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ballard Click.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary B. Potter of Clinton, Ky., and two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The service was officiated by Father Pat Stewart, with burial in the Frankfort cemetery at a later date.

Mitchell Cantrell

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 4, 1 p.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for Mitchell Cantrell, 86, of Paintsville, Ky., who passed away Thursday, March 1 at his residence.
Mr. Cantrell was born March 29, 1920 at Whitehouse, Ky., son of the late Mance and Ella Mae Napier Cantrell. He was a plumber and electrician. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Magdalene Rowland Cantrell.
Surviving are one son, Kenneth (Lisa) Cantrell of Paintsville; and two sisters, Betty Hale of Pineville, Ky., and Burdis Spradlin of West Van Lear, Ky.
The service was officiated by Elders James R. Blair and Jerry Colvin, with burial in the Johnson County Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville, Ky. Gravesite service conducted by the DAV Chapter 18 of Auxier.

William H. Cromartie

William H. Cromartie, 60, of Van Lear, Ky., passed away Monday, Feb. 26 at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Ky.
Mr. Cromartie was born Sept. 14, 1946 in New Rochelle, N.Y., son of Helen Page Cromartie and the late Willard F. Hoerst. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and an accountant.
Surviving are one son, William H. Cromartie of Melborne, Fla.; one brother, Bruce Cromartie, and one sister, Mary Morris, both of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Ruth Dawson

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 8, 11 a.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Ruth Dawson, 96, of Dayton, Ohio, who passed away Sunday, March 4 at Hospice of Dayton in Dayton.
Mrs. Dawson was born Dec. 8, 1910 in Grundy, Va., daughter of the late Doranto and Julina Pelphrey Dawson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ocal Dawson. She was a member of the Van Lear Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Elmer Dawson of Colorado and Bill Dawson of Danville, Ky.; one daughter, Geneva Trimble of Dayton, Ohio; and five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Lowell Pelphrey and Michael Trimble, with burial following in the Johnson County Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville, Ky.

Faye Sadler

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 7, 11 a.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Faye Sadler, 68, of Degraff, Ohio, who passed away Thursday, March 1 at her residence.
Mrs. Sadler was born March 3, 1938 in Johnson County, Ky., daughter of Mary Daniels Meek and the late Elbert Meek. She was a quality control inspector with Precision Custom Products.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph Sadler; two sons, Rodney Sadler of St. Paris, Ohio, and Tim Sadler of New Breman, Ohio; seven brothers, Delbert and Winfrey Meek, both of River, Ky., Howard, Thomas and Dennis Meek, all of Columbus, Ohio, Londis Meek of Thealka, Ky., and Luther Meek of South Carolina; two sisters, Virgie Brown of River and Nora Kitchen of Charlotte, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by John Fields, with burial in the Daniels cemetery at River, Ky.
