Vernon Edward Pack
1946-2009
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, April 29, noon, at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Vernon Edward Pack, 62, of Hager Hill, Ky., who passed away Sunday, April 26 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
Mr. Pack was born Aug. 29, 1946 in Johnson County, Ky., son of the late Walter J. and Marie Rice Pack. He was a heavy equipment operator. He was also preceded in death by one son, Ronnie “Pac Man” Pack; and one brother, Walter Calvin Pack.
Surviving are his wife, Brenda Sue Conn Pack of Hager Hill; one son, Edward Eugene “Gene” (Tammy) Pack of Oil Springs, Ky.; one brother, Wallie Pack of East Point, Ky.; five sisters, Joann Trimble, Renna Faye Quillen, and Myrtle Marlene VanHoose, all of Paintsville, Ky., Billie Carol Hyden of Tennessee, and Neva Sue Abney of Hager Hill, Ky.; and two grandchildren.
The service will be officiated by Jimmy Price, with burial following in the Cumbo cemetery at West Van Lear, Ky.
Arrangements under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

John C. Shaw
1946-2009
John Cyril Shaw, 62, of Paintsville, died at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio Tuesday, May 26, 2009 after a long illness. Mr. Shaw was born August 6, 1946 in Madison, Boone County, W. Va. and was the son of the late Carlos R. and Mary E. (Price) Shaw. Mr. Shaw was a successful businessman and healthcare administrator whose poor health forced him into early retirement several years ago. He was a member of Mayo Memorial United Methodist Church in Paintsville and was a member of O'Dell Lodge 115, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies and a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple. He was a dedicated husband and father. His wife, Linda D. (Fitzpatrick) Shaw, a loving wife of 43 years, survives him as well as three children, Hon. Jonathan C. Shaw of Paintsville, Dr. Charles P. Shaw of Henderson and Amy L. Shaw-Connors of Alexandria,
His brother, Jerry R. Shaw (Mary Ann) of Parkersburg, W. Va. and sister Nancy
V. Lamm (Gary Ray) of Ashville, N.C., also survive him.
Visitation will be held at Jones & Preston Funeral home in Paintsville, all day Friday, May 29.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, W. Va., Kenneth Mitchell officiating,
with visitation one hour prior to services. Graveside Masonic Rites and
Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Boone Co., W. Va.

Howard James “Duck” Bingham
1973-2009
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 20, at the Boons Camp Church of God, for Howard James “Duck” Bingham, 36, of West Van Lear, who passed away May 16 in Pikeville.
He was born April 5, 1973 in Pikeville, son of Charlotte Hull Bingham of Williamsport and the late Charles Bingham.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Powers Bingham; two sons, Matthew Williams and Caleb Williams, both of West Van Lear; two daughters, Jessica Bingham and Madison Bingham, both of Van Lear; three brothers, Clinton Hull, Marion, Ohio, Bruce Bingham, Marengo, Ohio, and Robert Bingham, Lopez, Ind.; two sisters, Barbara Adkins, Marion, Ohio, and Tammy Ulsh, Caledonia, Ohio.
Services were conducted by Dorsey Fields with burial in the Caudill Family Cemetery, Leander.
Arrangements under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home.

Gilbert Music
1920-2009
Funeral services will be held today, Friday, May 29, at 11 a.m, in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home for Gilbert Music, 88, of Van Lear, who passed away Tuesday, May 26, at his home.
He was born Nov. 24, 1920 in Johnson County, son of the late Melvin and Aggie Powers Music.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Music; one son, Gilbert L. Music, Van Lear; one daughter, Sandra Kay Hall, Van Lear; one brother, Frank Music, LaFontaine, Ohio; two sisters, Lorraine Blankenship, Mt.Sterling, Ohio, and Gussie Music, Van Lear; 2 grandchildren, one great grandchild, 3 step grandchildren, and 7 step great-grandchildren.
The service will be conducted by Paul Wayne Browning, with burial in the Music Family cemetery at Van Lear.
Arrangements under the direction of Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Paintsville.

Barbara Faye McKenzie VanHoose
1944-2009
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 28, at 11 a.m. at the Rockhouse Free Will Baptist Church, Staffordsville, for Barbara Faye McKenzie VanHoose, of Greentown, who passed away May 25 at her residence.
She was born Feb. 16, 1944 in Johnson County, daughter of the late James A. and Oma Salyers McKenzie. She was a retired housekeeping supervisor for Mountain Manor Nursing Home.
She is survived by her husband Edward VanHoose; one son, Bryan Edward VanHoose, Bonaire, Ga.;one daughter, Cindy Dawn Young, Paintsville; one brother, James Buddy McKenzie, Paintsville; two sisters, Frances (Dukie) McKenzie, Paintsville, and Dora Jean Brady, Bardstown; and four grandchildren.
The service was conducted by Richard Williams and Ronnie Spriggs, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville.
Arrangements under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville.

James David Hayslett
1964-2009
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30, at 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for James David Hayslett, 44, of Lexington, who passed away Tuesday, May 26 in Fayette County.
He was born July 20, 1964, in Johnson County, son of James Borders, California, and Phyllis Hayslett Conley, Oil Springs. He was an industrial mechanic.
He is survived by his parents; his wife, Veronica Hayslett; his step-father, Phillip Conley, Oil Springs; three daughters, Julia Marte’ Hayslett, Chelsey Lauren Hayslett and Hannah Louise Hayslett, all of Lexington; three brothers, Gary Combs, Robert Combs and Phillip Conley II, all of Oil Springs; two sisters, Lisa Stapleton, Paintsville, and Rhonda Jones, Oil Springs; and two grandchildren.
The service will be conducted by Marion Dalton, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 31, at Bethel Harvest Church, Nicholasville.
Arrangements under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville.

Albert Blevins
1925-2009
Funeral services were held July 2 at 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Albert Blevins, 83, of Hager Hill, who passed away June 29 at the Paul B. Hall Medical Center in Paintsville.
He was born Oct. 13, 1925 in Floyd County, son of the late Lonza and Lucy Roberts Blevins.
He was a carpenter.
He was also preceded in death by his wife Flossie Blevins; and one brother, Lonzo Blevins.
He is survived by one son, Ray (Wilma) Blevins, Hager Hill; one daughter, Alberta Blevins, Hager Hill; two sisters, Ella Blair and Mary Hurt, both of Warsaw, Ind.; one half brother, six half sisters and one step grandson.
The service was conducted by B. Joe Hill, with burial in the Delong Cemetery, Hager Hill.
Arrangements under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville.

Effie Gladys Castle
1912-2009
Funeral services were held July 2 at 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Effie Gladys Castle, 96, of Paintsville, who passed away June 28 at the Paul B. Hall Medical Center, Paintsville.
She was born July 25, 1912 in Lawrence County, daughter of the late Hiriam and Amanda Daniels Dixon.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Castle.
She is survived by one son, Bruce Castle, Knoxville, Tenn; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Services were conducted by Wes Stedtefeld, with burial at Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville.
