Samuel Gray, president of Forkland Community Center, dies
Samuel Housan Gray, 76, of Man of War Drive, president of Forkland Community Center Corp., died Sunday at University of Kentucky Medical Center. Born Feb. 5, 1923, in Gravel Switch, he was a son of the late Ray Fulton and Cora Whitehouse Gray. He was a volunteer for the American Association of Retired People income tax preparation. Gray had been an assistant commissioner for the state Department of Revenue and retired after working several years as property tax manager for Michigan. He was a graduate of Forkland High School and Centre College and received a master's degree in mathematics from University of Illinois. He was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Maetta Young Gray of Danville; two sons, Gary E. Gray of Grant City, Ill., and Mark E. Gray of Owensboro; a daughter, Gail E. Gray of Frankfort; a sister, Marian Parker of Shelbyville; and four grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery in Washington County. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home. Catherine R. Kuhnle
LEXINGTON -- Catherine Roach Kuhnle, 87, of Lexington, formerly of Danville, died Monday at Central Baptist Hospital. Born in London, she was a daughter of the late Daniel G. and March C. Burchell Roach. She was valedictorian of the Centre College Class of 1934 where she was Phi Beta Kappa and recipient of the President's Prize. She was the widow of H.B. Kuhnle, former pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Dan Kuhnle of Slidell, La.; two sons, John Harold Kuhnle of Washington, D.C., and Robert David Kuhnle of Louisville; and four grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery. Roscoe H. Playforth
MOREHEAD -- Roscoe H. Playforth, 89, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Monday at his home. Born Oct. 9, 1909, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Henry and Rebecca Harness Playforth. He was a member of Morehead Baptist Church. He was a retired professor of social sciences and a former dean of social sciences at Morehead State University. Survivors include his wife, Sibbie A. Playforth; a son, Herman Playforth of Lexington; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Rev. Don Mantooth. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Crab Orchard Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eugene Duncan, Jack E. Bizzell, Alan Wheeler, John Collis. LEXINGTON -- Harriet "Sitty" Russell Powell, 69, of Lexington, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Louisville, she was a daughter of the late Harry J. and Harriet A. Russell. She was the widow of Lynn G. Powell Jr. She was a retired teacher and a graduate of Harrodsburg High School. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Lexington. Survivors include two daughters, Harriet Donohue and Mary Lockett Ranft, both of Lexington; two sons, Donald J. Donohue III of Florida, and Michael W. Donohue of Texas; and one stepson. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Spring Hill Cemetery. LIBERTY -- Vivian Rada Cochran Roberts, 85, of Napier Street, died Saturday in Vencor Hospital in Louisville. Born Dec. 16, 1913, in Jeffersonville, Ind., she was a daughter of the late John E. and Olive Mae Hillard Cochran. She was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church and the widow of Howard N. Roberts. Survivors include five daughters, Ruth Martin and Phyllis Porter, both of Liberty, Elma White of Louisville, and Susan Lawhorn and Caroyln Walls, both of Junction City; four sons, John Roberts of Cincinnati, Bill and Ronnie Roberts, both of Liberty, Clifford Roberts of Indianapolis, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren. HARRODSBURG -- Barbara Jean Beasley, 67, of Louisville, died Monday at her home. Born April 3, 1932, in Washington County, she was a daughter of the late William Wilcher and Leunia G. Houchin Beasley. She was a retired nursing assistant and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Doug Beasley of Olney, Ill., and Stephen F. Gibson of Lexington; three daughters, Cindy K. Hawkins of Louisville and Kimberly R. Cox and Loretta L. Lewis, both of Harrodsburg; two brothers, James Beasley of Batesville, Ind., and Mutt Beasley of Harrodsburg; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. HARRODSBURG -- Donna Gray Robinson, 36, of Votaw Road, died Monday on Mann's Road as the result of an auto accident. Born April 22, 1963, in Danville, she was a daughter of Mayola I. Hampton of Savannah, Ga., and the late Donald M. Hampton. She was a homemaker. Other survivors include her husband, James E. Robinson; a stepfather, Daniel H. Feldman; two sons, John C. Deering and Joshua H. Deering, both of Lebanon; two daughters, Laura S. Deering and Rhiannon M. Deering, both of Lebanon; a stepson, James E. She was a former employee of Dukes Laundry Mat and was a Baptist. Survivors include a son, David W. Lehrschall of El Paso; a sister, Marie Sawyer of Danville; and three grandchildren. James Preston, former RECC board member, dies at age 73
LANCASTER -- James E. Preston, 73, of Nina Ridge, died Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Born March 3, 1926, in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Elbert and Nora Clark Preston. He was a retired farmer and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He served on the board of directors of the Inter-County Rural Electric Co-operative for 35 years, retiring in May of this year as secretary/treasurer, and was a former director of the Garrard County Fire Department District 1. He was a member of the Bethel Christian Church, serving as elder for 35 years. Survivors include his wife, Doris Rose East Preston; a son, James Kevin Preston; a daughter, Teresa Estes; a brother, Eugene Preston; and a sister, Geneva Lane, all of Lancaster; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Victory Christian Church in Lancaster by the Revs. Darrell Estes, John Presko and Zora Oliver. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Eldridge M. Montgomery Sr.
Eldridge Murrell Montgomery Sr., 79, of O'Hara Drive, a retired dentist, died Saturday at his home. Born Feb. 14, 1920, in Burnside, he was a son of the late Eldridge M. and Sarah Irwin Montgomery. He was a retired dentist and a 1943 graduate of Louisville Dental College. He was a 50-year member of the Kentucky dental and American dental associations and a member and former president of the Bluegrass Dental Society. He was responsible for getting fluoride added to the Danville Water System He also was a former member and president of Danville Lions Club. He was a member of First Christian Church where he was an elder and choir member. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired from the Navy Reserve as a commander. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star. Survivors his wife, Edith Mann Montgomery; a son, Eldridge M. Montgomery Jr. of Danville; three daughters, Carole Montgomery of Evansville, Ind., Linda Estes of Henderson, and Mary Coffman of Elkins, W.V.; a sister, Julia L. Monroe of Falmouth; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be 5 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church by the Revs. Norman Hagley and Caroline Bloomfield. Thelma Mae Lewis, 86, of Silverbrook Drive, died Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 16, 1912, in Atkins, Ark., she was a daughter of the late Ell D. and Jane M. Tyler Austin. She was a homemaker and a member of Boyle County Senior Citizens Center, She was the widow of Waitt Lewis. Survivors include two sons, Dallas L. Lewis of Cico, Calif., and Joseph Lewis of Sacramento, Calif.; four daughters, Louise C. Chastin of West Uniontown, Okla., Barbara Perata of Danville, Elaine O'Rourke of Albrightsville, Pa., and Joan Stalions of Marysville, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home Memorials may go to Danville Boyle County Senior Citizens Center.

William H. Baugh
CRAB ORCHARD -- William Henry "Bill" Baugh, 64, of Sassafras Tree Lane, Louisville, formerly of Lincoln County, died Tuesday at Veteran's Hospital, Louisville. Born May 6, 1935, in Danville, he was a son of the late Charles and Sally K. Brummett Baugh. He was a retired construction worker, an Air Force veteran and had attended a Methodist Church. Survivors include three sons, William "Billy" Baugh Jr. of Cincinnati, Charles Baugh of Spokane, Wash., and Dave Baugh of Henderson, Nev.; a sister, Alice Klara of Melbourne, Fla.; four brothers, Ed Baugh of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Craig Baugh of La Grange, Charles Baugh of Amherst, Ohio, and Ray Baugh of Crab Orchard; and six grandchildren. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Crab Orchard Cemetery. There will be no visitation. McKnight-Martin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ralph Anderson
LANCASTER -- Ralph Anderson, 67, of Crab Orchard Street, died Wednesday at his home. Born Oct. 29, 1931, in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Joe and Hazel Lear Anderson. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and farmer. He was a member of Preachersville United Methodist Church, a member of Lancaster Masonic Lodge 104 F&AM and Danville York Rite Bodies. He also was a Kentucky Colonel, a Shriner and a member of Oleika Temple, Lexington. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Johnson Anderson; a son, Marty Anderson of Stanford; a brother, Raymond Anderson of Ohio; four sisters, Lillie Hume of Richmond, Virginia Murray of Ohio, and Helen Osborne and Edwina King, both of Lancaster; and two grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Revs. Leroy Davis and Tim Boschen. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Willie Ray, Charles Hardwick, Doc Ray, Jimmy Moberly and Ronnie Sparks. Honorary pallbearers are Earl and Betty Smith, Hobert and Christine Howard, Lettie Sebastian and Sam Stoudemayer. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today.

HARRODSBURG -- Marjorie "Peggy" Dean, 59, of New Dixville Road, died Wednesday at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Born July 20, 1940, in Corning, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Donald and Marjorie Hartman Dunning. She was a former employee of Wal-Mart and attended Fellowship Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Snider Dean; two sons, Donald E. Dean of Knoxville, Pa., and Larry D. Dean of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Sherri D. Ritchie of Margate, Fla., and Gina M. Dean of Harrodsburg; four brothers, Butch Dunning of Salvisa, Bobby Dunning of Versailles, David Dunning of Mercer County and Tony Dunning of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Donna McGinnis and Jackie Burke, both of Mercer County, and Linda Devine of Willisburg; and nine grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Friday and after 7 a.m. Saturday until time of service.

LIBERTY -- Lilburn Mirl Eades, 60, of Dunnville, died Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born March 30, 1939, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Denton O. and Docie Allen Eades. He was a drywall contractor. Survivors include his wife, Lois Mason Eades; three daughters, Linda Eades of Norwood, Ohio, Misty Velasquez and Kristi Mason, both of Liberty; two sons, Jeffrey M. Eades and Timmy Eades, both of Norwood; four sisters, Joyce M. Eades and Elsie J. Miller, both of Liberty, Betty L. Bates of Fairfield, Ohio, and Donna S. Christian of Ohio; a brother, Dennie Eades of Liberty; and 11 grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Johnny Patton. Burial will be in Whited Cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today.

Burial will be in Fellowship Cemetery. She died Tuesday at her home. Born May 16, 1941, in Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Lorenzo and Hazel Billy Ward Sampson. She was a certified nursing assistant at Stanford House Nursing Home for 15 years and a member of Pentecostal Fellowship Church. Survivors include two daughters, Polly A. Cochran of Lancaster and Sherri L. Long of Stanford; six brothers, Tex, Earl and Cecil Sampson, all of Dayton, Ohio, Willard Sam-pson of New Lebanon, Ohio, Dow Sampson of Visialla, Calif., and Clarence Sampson of Heritage, Tenn.; five sisters, Virginia Bake and Alice Lambert, both of Lincolnton, Ga., Norma L. Roop of Campbellsburg, Ind., Wilma J. Gilbert of Jacksonville, Ark., and Judy Johnson of Madison, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
