LIBERTY -- Ova Lee Brown, 82, of Liberty, died Wednesday at her home. Born Nov. 14, 1916, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Nannie Zachary Lee. She was a homemaker, the widow of Russell W. Brown, and a member of Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth and Boyd Brown, both of Liberty; three daughters, Evelyn and Shirley Reed and Judy Price, all of Liberty; a sister, Gladys Johnson of Liberty; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Clifford Dehart and Clifton Cowan. Burial will be in Caney Fork Cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday.

Riley C. Marcum
STANFORD -- Riley Colson Marcum, 81, of Valley Drive, died Wednesday at his home. Born May 2, 1918, in Wayne County, he was a son of the late Charlie Joe and Ethel E. Page Marcum. He was a retired employee of Indiana State Hospital and had been a farmer, carpenter, factory worker and school bus driver. He was a member of Crab Orchard Church of Christ. He also was an army veteran of World War II, having served in Central Europe and the Rhineland areas. Survivors include his wife, Nora Bates Marcum; two daughters, Ora J. Wilson of Louisville and Cynthia "Cyndi" Sanders of Stanford; four sons, Riley W. "Bill" Marcum of Muncie, Ind., Bobby Marcum of Parksville, John Marcum of Stanford and Roger Marcum of Camarillo, Calif.; two brothers, James Marcum of New Castle, Ind., and Joe S. Marcum of Alpha; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Services will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at Fort Logan Church of Christ by Billy Gooch and Marklee Raulerson, with visitation beginning at 4 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be 11:30 a.m. (central time) Saturday at Fairview-Burnoon Cemetery, Alpha, with visitation an hour prior to the burial service at the Fairview Church. Pallbearers will be Gregory Upchurch, Scott Wilson, Timothy, Douglas and Greyson Marcum, and Bryan and Brandon Sanders. Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren. Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice, Danville, or the American Cancer Society. Spurlin Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

HARRODSBURG -- Eva Deshazer, 89, of Beaumont Avenue, died Thursday at Charleston Health Care Center, Danville. Born Sept. 3, 1910, in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse J. and Carrie L. Downey Deshazer. She was retired employee of Corning Glass Co. and a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church. Survivors include three nieces, Myrgle Huffman of Mercer County, Brenda Gabbard of Garrard County and Eva M. Baugh of Sumter, S.C.; and a nephew, George Deshaz-er of Bardstown. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at McClellan Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Defoor. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. Sunday until time of service.

Marion D. Phillips
LEXINGTON -- Marion Douglas Phillips, 56, of Lexington, died there Wednesday. Born in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Luke and Edith Peavler Phillips. Survivors include his companion, Jayne Donahue; two sons, Glenn D. Phillips of Salvisa and Bryan M. Phillips of Burgin; two daughters, Rhonda G. Burkhead of Lawrenceburg and Lynne A. Lewis of Burgin; and five grandchildren. Services were scheduled this morning at Pruitt Funeral Home -- Alexandria Drive. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery.

John H. Hurt
John Henry Hurt, 77, of 39 Northtown Apartments, died Saturday at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Born Aug. 17, 1922, in Maldon, Ill., he was the son of the late Charlie Hurt and Grace Emily Smith. He was a farmer and was in charge of maintenance at The Salvation Army. An Army veteran of World War II, he held the rank of corporal and received the Bronze Star. He was a member of The Salvation Army Church and had perfect attendance from 1972-1992. Active in The Salvation Army, he served as corps sergeant major of the Danville organization from 1987-1995 and was former president and chaplain of the Men's Club, Man of the Year in 1987, and Soldier of the Year in 1971. He also was named Kentucky-Tennessee Divisional Soldier of the Year in 1987 and Man of the Year in 1984. Survivors include his wife, Josephine Bryant Hurt of Junction City; three sons, John Hurt Jr. of Junction City and William "Scooter" Hurt and Charles Hurt, both of Danville; three stepsons, Hobert "Buddy" Wilson of Danville, Gary Wayne Wilson of Junction City, and Jerry Wilson of Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers, Ivan Hurt of Lexington, Everett Hurt of Tucson, Ariz., George Hurt of Danville and James Hurt of Junction City; five grandchildren; 15 step grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at The Salvation Army. The body will lie in state after 11 a.m. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home.

Roy Evans
LIBERTY -- Roy Ernest Evans, 70, of Cleves, Ohio, died Friday in Cincinnati. Born Aug. 20, 1929, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Wilford and Monta Propes Evans. He was a retired quality control manager at Anderson Dye Casting in Wheeling, Ill., and a Korean veteran. Survivors include his wife, Loretta Allen Evans; three brothers, Mack, R.C. and Earl Evans, all of Liberty; and four sisters, Lillian Sutherland, Ruth Tucker and Jean Holt, all of Liberty, and Chloe King of Harrodsburg. Services will be 2 p.m. today at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by the Rev. Dwight Coffman. Burial will be in Green River Valley Cemetery.

Loxley Naugle
LIBERTY -- Loxley Raymond Naugle, 75, of Liberty, died Thursday at the University of Kentucky Chand-ler Medical Center. Born June 24, 1924, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he was a son of the late Raymond and Verna Hontz Naugle. He was a retired truck driver and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Parton Naugle; a son, Ramond Lee Naugle of New Jersey; a sister, Violet Mithaous of New Jersey; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today at Bartle Funeral Home. There will be no funeral services.

LIBERTY -- Bobby Sheryl Woodrum, 21, of Liberty, died Friday night as the result of a car accident. Born Dec. 30, 1977, in Casey County, he was a son of Bobby Steven Woodrum and Rita Sharlene Evans, both of Liberty. He was a truck driver. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by the Rev. Clifford DeHart. Burial will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery. Douglas Taylor Smith, 69, of Danville, died Saturday Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born Dec. 4, 1924, in Barren County, he was a son of the Paul B. and Christene Taylor Smith. He was a service technician for 38 years for Kentucky Utilities Co. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Franklin Masonic Lodge 28 F&AM. Survivors include his wife, Laura "Brownie" Smith; a son, Jason Smith of Lexington; three daughters, Stephanie Cheatham of Danville, Julie Singletary of Lexington and Deborah Rogers of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a stepson, John Cantrell of New York; two brothers, B. Warren Smith of Glasgow and Randall P. Smith of Lufkin, Texas; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glasgow Memorial Gardens. Stith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LANCASTER -- Maggie Della Naylor, 90, of Richmond Street, died Saturday at Garrard County Memorial Hospital. Born May 25, 1909, in Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary E. Warmouth. She was a retired owner of Naylors Grocery and a member of Lancaster Baptist Church. She was the widow of Robert C. Naylor. Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia M. Ashby of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Robert H. Naylor of Lexington; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Revs. Barry Jeffries and Zora Oliver. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery. Johnnie Elliott Jr., 63 of East Office Street, died Monday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. Born Oct. 13, 1936, in Mercer County, he was a son of Johnnie and Mary E. Russell Elliott. He was a retired employee of Corning Glass Co., and a member of Ellers Memorial Baptist Church, St. John's Masonic Lodge and Harrodsburg Kiwanis Club. He was a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors include three brothers, Albert and Walter Elliott, both of Mercer County, and Leon Elliott of Alabama; three sisters, Gertie Huffman and Katherine Pankey, both of Mercer County, and Betsy Goodlett of Lawrenceburg. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Kenneth Whitehouse. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will Sunday School class members. HARRODSBURG -- Justin Wayne Harmon, 16, of Warwick Road, died Sunday of a gunshot wound. His death is being investigated as a homicide. Born May 6, 1983, in Harrodsburg, he was a son of Roxie N. Harmon of Harrodsburg and the stepson of Henry Preston Watts Jr. of Harrodsburg. He was a student at a Harrodsburg school. Other survivors include a brother, Jason Harmon of Harrodsburg; and a maternal grandmother, Peggy Burkhead of Mercer County. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Lewis Walter. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Scott A. Medley
HARRODSBURG -- Scott Allen Medley, 23, of North Magnolia Street died Sunday of a gunshot wound. His death is being investigated as a homicide. Born March 2, 1976, in Lexington, he was a son of Robert E. and Phyllis Byrd Medley Sr. of Harrodsburg. He was a car detailer and had attended Harrodsburg High School. Other survivors include his maternal grandmother, Flonnie Byrd of Harrodsburg; and two brothers, Charles L. Boswell and Robert E. Medley Jr., both of Harrodsburg. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home by the Rev. Kenneth Whitehouse. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Minnie J. Jolley
TUSCOLA, Ill. -- Minnie Jane Jolley, 98, of Tuscola, died Oct. 12 at Douglas Manor Nursing Home. Born Aug. 23, 1901, in Lancaster, she was a daughter of the late James G. and Lucy Rucker Conn. She was the widow of Horace Wyeth and Ray Jolley. She was a homemaker and was a pilot and second lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. She was a member of the National Parachute Jumpers Association and Tuscola United Methodist Church. Survivors include two brothers, Claud Conn of Tuscola, and Jonas Conn of New Carlisle, Ohio; seven sisters, Virginia Cotton of Lancaster, Blanche James and Freda Barnes, both of Danville, Lucy Sheets of Dayton, Ohio, Edith Sparks of New Hartford, N.Y., Stella Alaimo of Wyoming, Pa., and Miller Underwood of Lancaster. Services were held Friday at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home by the Rev. Clyde Snyder. Memorials may go to Tuscola United Methodist Church.

She was formerly employed at Shakertown and was a member of Centennial Baptist Church. Survivors include four sons, Tim, Bentley, Joey and Robert Jones, all of Harrodsburg; a daughter, Darlene Hernandez of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Nancy E. Jones and Hazel Majors, both of Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Centennial Baptist Church by the Revs. J.D. Short and Phil Yates. HARRODSBURG -- Fred Joseph "Joe" Watts, 75, of Frankfort, died Tuesday at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Born June 15, 1924, in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Strother and Gertrude Maddox Watts. He was a member and former deacon of Bellview Christian Church and an Air Force veteran. He was a retired employee of the City of Frankfort and was on the Frankfort sewer board. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Watts; two sons, Fred J. "Buster" Watts and Mark A. Watts, both of Frankfort; a brother, William T. Watts of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Jane Watts and Nellie Watts, both of Harrodsburg; and two grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Kirkwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday and after 7 a.m. Friday until time of service.

CORBIN -- Hershel E. Tye, 90, of Corbin, died Wednesday at Baptist Regional Medical Center. He was a retired conductor for B&O Railroad and past president of Whitley County Saddle Club. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a World War II veteran. Survivors include his wife, Zora Hart Tye; two daughters, Eulene Ward of Centerville, Ohio and Nancy Philpot of Cummins, Ga.; a son, Tom Tye of Danville; three sisters, Irene Trammell of Williamsburg, Dolly Henn Cincinnati, Ohio, and Lucy Philpot of Cincinnati; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jack Tye. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church by the Rev. Bart Powers. Burial will be in Ward Cemetery, Corbin. CAMPBELLSVILLE -- Mary Pauline Williams Young, 71, of Campbellsville, died Oct. 14 in Elizabethtown. Born Jan. 30, 1928, in Taylor County, she was a daughter of the late Dan and Gladys V. Williams. She was the widow of Isles Young and a member of Pleasant Run Baptist Church in Greensburg. Survivors include seven daughters, Mary Williams, Sylvia Young, Roda Smith, Denise Shavkey, Stella Duncan and Sheila Young, all of Campbellsville, and Isles Jean Isaacs of India; a son, Walter D. Young of Danville; a sister, Nancy Bailey of Louisville; two brothers, Harlan Williams of Louisville and Coleman Williams of Greensburg; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Augustus "Gus" Yaste, 92, of Junction City, died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born Nov. 6, 1906, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Robert and Lonnie Silvertooth Yaste. He was the widower of Margaret Roller Yaste. He was a retired employee of Standard Metals scrap yard and a member of Junction City United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Ernie Yaste of Junction City and Sammy Roller of Lebanon; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Saturday.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Partridge Church of Christ. She was the widow of Russell Mullins. Survivors include seven sons, Cecil Mullins of Fort Pierce, Fla., Dewey and Lovell Mullins of Sidney, Ohio, Darrell, Russie and Montie Martin Mullins of Partridge, and Bobby Mullins of Speedwell, Tenn.; eight daughters, Elsie Mullins, Glessie Elkins and Nellie Miles, all of Partridge, Cynthia McIntosh of Cumberland, Norcie Anderson of Danville, Ocie Anderson of Harrogate, Tenn., Ina Lee Mullins of Lynch and Juanita Tippett of Cumberland; a sister, Mary Salyers of Lebanon, Va.; 61 grandchildren; 104 great-grandchildren; and 20 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Bristol Mullins. Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday at Partridge Church of Christ by the Revs. Phillip Mullins and R.B. Browning. Burial was in Mullins Cemetery. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Osh Gosh in Liberty. Survivors include her husband, Oakley P. Richardson; two sons, Carroll Richardson of Hustonville and Jimmy Dale Richardson of Plat City, Fla.; two sisters, Hazel Barberee and Sarah Morgan, both of Troy; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Gail Meeks. Services are 2 p.m. today at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by the Rev. Leonard Plowman. Burial will be in Willow Springs Cemetery. LEXINGTON -- Frances Jones Fister, 87, of Lexington, died Friday at her home. Born June 8, 1912, in Fayette County, she was a daughter of Russell L. and Henrietta Cassell Fister. She was a retired nurseryman with Fister's Gardens and was a former manager of Mercer County Humane Society. She was member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Lexington, and the widow of Joseph N. Fister. Survivors include a son, Joseph N. Fister, D.M.D. of Danville; two daughters, Carolyn Fister Sheehy of Versailles and Frances Laythe Sykes of Elkhorn City; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucy Fister Lietzan. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church by Rev. Gino Donatelli and deacon Louis Fister. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and a Christian wake service will be 6 p.m. today at W.R. Milward Mortuary, Broadway, Lexington.
