Russell M. Ackley, 83, of Washington, Kentucky, died Monday, October 8, 2001, at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville.
Born July 14, 1918, in Lewis County, he was a son of the late Alvin M. and Lina M. Doyle Ackley. He was a farmer and a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ.
Services were conducted Thursday, October 11, at Barbour and Son Funeral Home in Tollesboro. Bro. Layne Wagner officiated with burial in Mineer Cemetery in Lewis County.
Wylie Lowe
Wylie Ellen Jordan Lowe, 90, formerly of Tollesboro, died Thursday, September 27, 2001.
Born December 6, 1910, in Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Ben and Yorkie Garvin Jordan, and was the widow of Dennis R. Lowe Sr., who died in 1981.
Services were conducted Saturday, September 29, at 1:00 p.m., at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home in Flemingsburg. Rev. Johnny Sparks officiated with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Rodney Rowland
Rodney Rowland, 59, of Flatwoods, died Saturday, September 22, 2001, at 9:16 a.m. at his home.
Born July 6, 1942, at Cincinnati, Ohio, he was a son of the late Earnest and Sarah Jane Wiley Rowland, and was the widower of Ruth Workman Rowland. He was a laborer with Union Concrete Pipe Company in Ceredo, West Virginia, and was a member of the Church of God at Raceland.
Services were conducted Tuesday, September 25, at 2:30 p.m., at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Earl Hazel officiated with burial in Howard Cemetery at Tannery.
Simon Osborne
Simon A. Osborne, 84, of Dover, Ohio, formerly of Lorain, Ohio, died unexpectedly Sunday, September 25, at his home.
Born May 4, 1917, at Garrison, he was a son of the late James and Altia Osborne, and was the husband of Emma M. Haynes Osborne. He was a WWII Army veteran and was retired from US Steel. He was a former member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Lorain.
Graveside services were conducted Saturday, September 29, at 11:00 a.m., at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst, Ohio. Arrangements were under the direction of Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home.
Thelma Tolle
Thelma Lee Tolle, 85, of Vanceburg, died Thursday, November 29, 2001, at Vanceburg Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Born March 4, 1916, at Vanceburg, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Florence McGinnis Cottingham, and was the widow of Jesse Tolle, who died in 1996. She was a homemaker.
Services were conducted Sunday, December 2, at 1:00 p.m. at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Allan Harman officiated with burial in Black Oak Cemetery.
Dempsey Moore
Dempsey McClean Moore, 87, of Vanceburg, died Monday, December 3, 2001, at 11:35 a.m., at his home.
Born August 31, 1914, in Lewis County, he was a son of the late Lenard and Linna Day Moore, and was the widower of Ella May Ruckel Moore, who died in 1991. He was a retired farmer and a member of Shepherds Chapel Christian Holiness Church at Clarksburg.
Services will be conducted Wednesday, December 5, at 1:00 p.m., at Shepherds Chapel Christian Holiness Church. Rev. Carl Stanfield will officiate with burial in Webster Cemetery at Clarksburg. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg.
Janice Eubanks
Janice Ruggles Eubanks, 62, of Flemingsburg, died Sunday, November 18, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born March 21, 1939, in Lewis County, she was a daughter of the late Forrest and Ica Corns Ruggles, and was the wife of James R. Eubanks. She was retired as Director of Aging, Licking Valley CAP.

Russell Allen Dyer, 66, of Vanceburg, died Friday, November 23, 2001, at 4:00 a.m., at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville, following an extended illness.
Born October 19, 1935, at Vanceburg, he was a son of the late Roscoe and Minnie Armstrong Dyer. He was a member of Evans Chapel Church.
Services were conducted Monday, November 26, at 1:00 p.m., at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Harold Eugene Evans officiated with burial in Hannable Cemetery at Rock Run.
Stephfon Wills Jr.
Stephfon O'Dean Wills Jr., 19, of Vanceburg, died Thursday, November 21, 2001, near Vanceburg, as a result of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.
Born October 2, 1982, at Maysville, he was a son of Stephfon O'Dean Wills Sr. of Garrison and Karen Sue McGlone of Quincy. He was employed at Ideal Wheels in Vanceburg and a member of Quincy Church of Christ. He was a 2001 graduate of Lewis County High School where he was quarterback of the football team.
Services were conducted Saturday, November 24, at 2:00 p.m., at Quincy Church of Christ. Burial was in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak. Arrangements were under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Chapel in Garrison.
Velma Gilliam
Velma Rose Gilliam, 81, of Vanceburg, died Monday, November 19, 2001, at Fleming County Hospital in Flemingsburg.
Born October 20, 1920, at Franklin Furnace, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Alford and Sophia Vaughn Pressley, and was the widow of Estill Gillliam. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lewis D. Meadows.
Services were conducted Wednesday, November 21, at 10:00 a.m. at Sullivan Funeral Chapel in Garrison. Nelson Evans officiated with burial in Bethel Cemetery at Ribolt.
Fay Burriss
Fay Chapman Burriss, 86, of Vanceburg, died Sunday, December 2, 2001, at the home of her daughter on Bear Branch in Garrison.
Born June 11, 1915, at Charley, she was a daughter of the late William and Irma Austin Chapman, and was the widow of Lawrence "Shine" Burriss, who died in 1983. She was a member of Reynolds Chapel Church in Black Oak.
Services will be conducted Wednesday, December 5, at 1:00 p.m., at Sullivan Funeral Chapel. Bro. Tim Underwood will officiate with burial in Black Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until the hour of services at the funeral home.
Henry Ervin
Henry Ervin, 86, of Garrison, died Sunday, November 18, 2001, at his home on Spy Run following an extended illness.
Born August 10, 1915, in Carter County, he was a son of the late Jerry and Elizabeth Johnson Ervin, and was the husband of 62 years of Alice Stone Ervin. He was a member of Labor Local 83 and worked in construction until his retirement. He served four years in the CCC and was a member of Wright's Chapel in Garrison.
Services were conduced Wednesday, November 21, at 2:00 p.m. at Wright's Chapel. Charlie Riggs and Clarence Hall officiated with burial in Waring Cemetery at Garrison. Arrangements were under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Chapel in Garrison.
Lena Stafford
Lena Maude Stafford, 86, of Chillicothe, Ohio, died Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born August 15, 1915, in Lewis County, she was a daughter of the late Jacob G. and Francis Ruggles Applegate, and was the widow of Henry H. Stafford, who died in 1996. She was retired from US Show Corp. and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and the Maranatha Class and the Missionary Circle.
Services were conducted Monday, November 26, at 1:30 p.m. at Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Rev. Steven Schmidt officiated with burial in Grandview Cemetery.
Alma Burriss
Alma Elizabeth Burriss, 87, of Vanceburg, died Thursday, January 24, 2002, at 7:15 p.m. at Scioto Memorial Hospital in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Born November 22, 1913, in Otway, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Preston and Bessie Newman Mustard, and was the widow of George Thomas Burriss, who died in 1999. She was a homemaker and farmer, and a member of Black Oak Christian Church.
Services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 27, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Burial was in Black Oak Cemetery.
David Logan
David Lester Logan, 72, of Vanceburg, died Friday, January 25, 2002, at King's Daughters' Medical Center in Ashland.
Born March 19, 1929, in Lewis County, he was a son of the late James Robert and Gracie Sexton Logan.
Services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 27, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. John Jordan and Ronnie Enix officiated with burial in Bald Point Cemetery at Bald Point.
Curtis Esham
Curtis Jack Esham, 75, of Vanceburg, died Thursday, January 31, 2002, at 9:22 a.m., at Southern Ohio Medical Center, Portsmouth, Ohio, after an extended illness.
He was born August 12, 1926, in Lewis County, a son of the late Drennan Clark and Anna Laura Lewis Esham, and the husband of Maxine McCann Esham. He was a retired educator with over 21 years of service in the Lewis County school system, a farmer and a construction worker. He was a member of VFW Post #5438. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Kentucky and his Master's degree from Morehead State University.
Services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3, at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Howard Wilson officiated with burial in Lewis County Memory Gardens.
Geneva O'Cull
Geneva O’Cull Reed, 73, died February 5, 2002, in Maysville.
Born August 10, 1928, in Lewis County, she was a daughter of the late George and Grace Thomas O’Cull, and the widow of Dewey Vaughn Reed. She was a graduate of Orangeburg High School and Morehead State University, and had been an educator for 43 years, mostly in Mason County. She was a member of the NEA, KEA, and Mason County Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Oakwoods Church of Christ, a charter member of the Orangeburg Lioness Club; and a member of the Golden Needles Quilt Club.
Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7, at Orangeburg Christian Church. Bro. Sam Tatman and Rev. Claude Maggard will officiate with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, at Brell and Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Born February 4, 1955, in Vanceburg, he was a son of Marjorie Chinn Lykins of Vanceburg and the late Earl Lykins. He was a former employee of the Goodwin Lumber Company.

Orville Bentley
Orville Bentley, 83, of Garrison, died Monday, January 21, 2002, at his home.
Born January 30, 1918, in Garrison, he was a son of the late John Vent and Letitia Cornett Bentley, and was the husband of 56 years of June Skidmore Bentley. He owned and operated Bentley Grocery in Garrison for 65 years.

Born August 2, 1919, in Robertson County,she was a daughter of the late Anna White Moran and James Ezra Moran, and was the widow of Delmar Cropper. She was a homemaker and a farmer.

Born November 17, 1933, in Fleming County, he was a son of the late Omar and Josephine Hamm Lamar, and was the husband of 43 years of Lora Corns Lamar. He was a retired mechanic and truck driver for Hackworth Trucking. He was a member of the Tollesboro Christian Church.

Roy Earnest Clark, 85, of Garrison, died at 5:50 a.m., Friday, January 18, 2002, at Vanceburg Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, following an extended stay at St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead.
Born August 27, 1916, in Adams County, Ohio, he was a son of the Lenazora Lee and Alafair Horsely Clark, and was the husband of Lena Frazier Maggard Clark. His first wife, Zora Elizabeth Bloomfield Clark, died in 1991. He was retired from C&O Railroad and was an Elder and Sunday School Superintendent at Bivens Chapel Church in Garrison.
Services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, at Bivens Chapel Church. Rev. Charles Emmons officiated with Rev. Ben Furman and Bill Kamer assisting. Burial was in Richardson Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Chapel in Garrison.
Adrian Beiland
Adrian Douglas Beiland, 70, of Deerfield Village, died Sunday, February 3, 2002, at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville.
Born on August 20, 1931, in Lewis County, he was the son of the late Adrian and Leona Pollitt Beiland, and the husband of Mary Black Beiland. He retired from Wald Manufacturing Co. after 39-1/2 years and was employed at Kroger. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Plumville Church of Christ.
Services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, at Knox and Brothers Funeral Home in Maysville. Bro. Jay Stoner officiated with burial in Hillcrest Garden of Memory Cemetery.

Henry L. Hook, 89, of Milton, Indiana, did Thursday, August 1, 2002, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana.
Born November 9, 1912, in Springdale, Mason County, he was a son of the late Daniel and Mary Ratliff Hook, and was the widower of Mildred L. Hook, who died in 1995. He had farmed in Kentucky and worked at Hook Excavating. He was a member of Bethany Christian Church.
Services will be conducted Monday August 5, at 11:00 a.m. at Marshall and Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin, Indiana. Rev. Jim Tilton will officiate with burial in West Side Cemetery at Milton.

Lois Swearingen Harrison Stamper, 92, of Tollesboro, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at Maysville Extended Care.
Born February 9, 1910, in Scioto County, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Alice Odle Swearingen, and was the widow of Leonard Harrison, who died in 1961, and George Stamper, who died in 1991. She owned and operated Harrison's General Store in Ribolt for 44 years. She was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church and Ribolt Homemakers.
