Ruhama Boyd
Ruhama J. Boyd, 96, of Vanceburg, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at her home, following an extended illness. Born April 5, 1906, in Greenup County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Martin and Monachak Lee Setters, and the widow of Walter J. Boyd in 1973. She was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Lewis County Senior Citizens, the Lewis County Homemakers and was a Kentucky Colonel. Services were conducted Sunday, April 6, at 3:00 p.m. at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Nelson Evans officiated with burial in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.

Arthur Cogan
Arthur Gray Cogan, 92, of Rt. 2 Vanceburg, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at the VA Hospital in Lexington. Born November 13, 1910, in Lewis County, he was a son of the late John and Mary Hutton Cogan. He was a retired farmer and had also worked for the C&O Railroad. Services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Barbour and Son Funeral Home. Bro. Jamie Mitchell officiated with burial in Hillcrest Garden of Memories in Mason County.

Lena Bickley
Lena Lewis Bickley, 78, of Tollesboro, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at her home, following an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Garcia and Otie Faye Mineer Hamm, and the wife of 58 years of Dan Bickley. She had worked for 13 years at Hayswood Hospital and for one year at Meadowview Regional Medical Center. She had also worked as a private duty nurse. She was a member of Maysville Church of Christ and the Senior Friends, and was a longtime donor to the American Red Cross Bloodmobile. Services were conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at Maysville Church of Christ. Pastor Wayne Kaser officiated with burial in Hillcrest Garden of Memories in Mason County. Arrangements were under the direction of Knox and Brothers Funeral Home in Maysville.

Beatrice Rouse
Beatrice A. Rouse, 82, of Maysville, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at her home. Born September 22, 1920, at Glen Springs, she was the daughter of the late Bruce and Nona Arthur Prater, and was the wife of Warren Rouse. She and her husband were the owners and operators of the Independent Tobacco Warehouse in Maysville, and also owned and operated farms in Lewis and Mason counties. She was a member of Highland Christian Church and enjoyed playing golf at the Maysville Country Club and Kenton Station Golf Club. Services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Knox and Brothers Funeral Home in Maysville. Rev. Bruce Heller officiated with burial in Lewis County Memory Gardens in Black Oak.

Dianna Kelbley
Dianna Kelbley, 64, of Lackland, Florida, formerly of Upper Sanduskey, Ohio, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at 2:10 p.m., at Lakeland Regional Hospital in Lakeland. Born November 19, 1938, at Kinniconick, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Dorothy Pell Rhoden, and was the wife of Robert Kelbley. She was retired after working several years for the restaurant industry. She attended John Stewart United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 19, 2003, between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. at the home of her daughter, JoEllen Simonsen Gatchel, 310 S. Main St., Nevada, Ohio.

Orville Tully
Orville Dean Tully, 69, of Vanceburg, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Maysville Nursing and rehabilitation Center, following an extended illness. Born July 7, 1934, in Lewis County, he was a son of the late Louie and Alice Brammer Tully, and the husband of 39 years of Velma Sapp Tully. He was retired after 32 years with Emerson Power Transmission and was a member of Liberty Grove Christian Holiness Church. Services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at Barbour and Son Funeral Home in Tollesboro. Pastor Teresa Roe and Rev. Dean McCleese officiated with burial in Mt. Tabor Cemetery at Ribolt.

Virgil Kennedy
Virgil E. Kennedy, 74, of Mansfield, Ohio, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at MedCentral Mansfield, following an extended illness. Born June 25, 1928, in Vanceburg, he was the son of the late Thomas Earl and Lesta Marie Flinders Kennedy, and the husband of Patsy Lois "Mary Lou" Kegley Kennedy. He was retired after 20 years with Graham Chevrolet and was a Korean War US Army veteran. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Rev. Mike Kilgallin officiated graveside services Friday, March 28, at Mansfield Memorial Park. Arrangements were under the direction of the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors.

Honor Elizabeth "Liz" Smith Clark, 51, of Garrison, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at the home of her sister in Portsmouth, Ohio. Born March 19, 1952, in Greenup, she was a daughter of Joshua Smith of Vanceburg and the late Ethel Madge Bear Smith, and the husband of Arnold Eugene Clark. Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 4, at Bivens Chapel in Garrison. Sis. Wilma Erwin will officiate with burial in Waring Cemetery in Garrison. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday at Garrison Funeral Chapel.

Barbara Jean Liles Lands, 51, of Hillsboro, died Friday morning, April 4, 2003, at her home. Born Novembers 25, 1951, in Lewis County, she was a daughter of Glendora Ginn Liles of Vanceburg and the late Estill Liles, and was the wife of John Lands. She was employed as a social services worker inspector for Omsbudsman for 22 years and a member of Shiloh Methodist Church. Services were conducted Sunday, April 6, at 2:00 p.m. at the Northcutt & Son Home for Funeral Memorial Chapel. Rev. Richard Short and Rev. Harley Sexton Jr. officiated with burial in the Fultz Cemetery on Christy Creek.

James Reece Picklesimer, 74, of San Diego, California, formerly of Vanceburg, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in Hemet, California. Born April 20, 1928, in Johnson County, he was a son of the late Emerson and Lillie May Fairchild Picklesimer. He had attended Spy Run School and Lewis County High School. He was an aerospace and computer engineer. He was an aircraft spotter in WWII and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Mensa. Services were conducted Thursday, March 20, at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery in San Diego.

Juanita Applegate
Juanita Applegate, 63, of Ripley, Ohio, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at her home. Born April 17, 1939, in May's Lick, she was a daughter of the late Aitkin and Olive Heflin Cline. She had worked for many years at the US Shoe Corporation and was also employed as a cook at the Ohio Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of the Ripley Assembly of God. Services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley. Rev. James and Norma Robinson officiated with burial in the Red Oak Cemetery.

Born January 10, 1917, at Clarksburg, he was a son of the late Randolph and Minnie Gulley Brown, and was the widower of Juanita "Gus" Edington Brown, who died on May 14, 2003. He was retired as foreman at US Shoe in Vanceburg, and was a lifelong member of Clarksburg Christian Church, where he served as an elder. He also attended Fly Branch Church of Christ, where he taught senior adult Sunday School. He was a WWII US Navy veteran.
