MATHA SATTERLY
Matha Darnell Satterly, 97, of 10461 Lawrenceburg Road, died Monday, November 2, 1998 at her home.
A native of Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Bruner and Moriah Waldridge Darnell, a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, J. L. (Azille) Satterly, Washington County; three daughters, Ama Robinson, Frankfort, Rama Sutherland, Lawrenceburg, and Mrs. J. R. (Jean) Robinson, Washington County; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Satterly; two sons-in-law, James Sutherland, and Onis Robinson, a great grandson, Alex Joseph French, a sister, Haley Gillis and four brothers, Sleet, Elster, Roscoe and Robert Darnell.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 5, at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Harold Garrison and Bro. Carl Jones officiating. Burial will be in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Sutherland, Bitsy Satterly, James Robinson, Brian Robinson, Robbie Stopher, and Jason Satterly. Honorary bearers will be Thomas Catlett, Cody Sutherland, William Allen Chadwell, and Shawn McHolan.

GARY LOGAN
Gary Morgan Logan, 44, of Kankakee, IL died Friday, October 23, 1998, at Riverdale, IL.
Born November 5, 1953 in Monmouth, IL, he was the son of Richard and Jane Logan of Harrodsburg and the late Daisy Book Logan.
He was a former employee of Chicago Bridge and Iron in Bourbonnais, IL, a member of the Aroma Park, IL Fire Department.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: his wife, Judy Mosier Logan, Kankakee, IL; one son, Zachary M. Logan, Kankakee, IL; one brother, Jeffry and two step sisters, Dana and Dawn.
Funeral servcies were held Tuesday, Octonber 27, at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Home with pastor Beverly Marshall-Goodell of Aroma Park United Methodist Church officiating.. Casket guards were members of the area fire departments and a special service was held at the Chapel after visitation. Burial was at Mound Grove Gardens in Kankakee.
Pallbearers were members of Aroma Park Fire Department. The casket was carried to the cemetary on a fire truck and escorted by fire and police units from Aroma Park, Bourbonnais, Bradley, and Kankakee, IL.

THOMAS HAZELWOOD, Jr.
Thomas Hazelwood Jr., 67, of 944 Kirkwood Road, Salvisa, died Tuesday, October 27, 1998 at the VA Hospital in Lexington.
Born March 2, 1931 in Clark County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Sally Carrie Lunsford Hazelwood.
He was a farmer and a member of the Kirkwood Baptist Church.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 52.
Survivors include: three brothers, Carl and Charles (Kenny) Hazelwood, Mercer County, and Howard Hazelwood, Frankfort; three sisters, Donna Gash, Dorothy Sue Cinnamon and Linda Sheperson, all of Mercer County.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 30, 1998 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Redding officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkwood Cemetery, Salvisa.
Pallbearers were Doug, Charles and Howard L. Hazelwood, Steve Gash, Wayne Cinnamon, and Scott Sheperson. Honorary bearers were Anthony, Alan, Brent, Perry, Mark and Jeffrey Hazelwood.

THOMAS MORRIS
Thomas Lee Morris, 67, of Gadsden, Alabama died Tuesday, November 3, 1998 in Gadsden.
Born May 11, 1931 in Talmage (Mayo), he was the son of the late Thomas Albert (T. A.) and Minnie Louallen Morris.
He was a former employee of Jackson of Danville, and was a self-employed upholsterer in Frankfort. He had been an upholsterer for 49 years.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Marines, having served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mary M. Harrod of Danville, and Barbara M. Miracle, Richmond, IN; two sons, Ron Morris, Danville and Carl L. Morris, Thompsonville, IL; one brother, Lucien A. Morris, Danville; two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Burns and Juanita E. Yeast, both of Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 7 at 1:00 p.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Sallee officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Don Burns, Willard Yeast, Bobby Logue, David Morris, Ronald Lee Morris II and Steve Morris.

OPHELIA ALFORD
Ophelia Alford, 92, of Charleston Health Care Facility, died Saturday, November 7, 1998 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born January 1, 1906 in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Clark and Mary Copenhaver Thornton.
She was a stewardess at St. James AME Church and attended Mercer County High School.
She was a nurse's aide at Ephraim McDowell Memorial Medical Center and she also worked for Nelson Rodes. She was a member of the Kentucky Club and worked for the Senior Citizens group.
Survivors include: one nephew, Ralph Smith, Danville; and two nieces, Priscilla Johnson and Mattie Smith, both of Junction City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Alford.
Services were held Monday at St. James AME Church by Rev. Everhart Walker. Burial was in Hilldale Cemetery.
Pallbearers were officers of St. James AME Church.
Smith-Jackson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

CHARLES BATTERTON
Charles Forest Batterton, 83, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Pleasureville, died Saturday, November 7, at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
He was a son of the late James M. and Levia James Batterton.
He was a member of Eminence Christian Church and was employed as a mail distributor.
Survivors include: one daughter, Betty Perry, Perryville; one son, Keith Batterton, Harrodsburg; one sister, Edith Raisor, Eminence; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Allen Stivers.
Funeral services were held Monday November 9, at Scholar Funeral Home in Pleasureville, by Rev. Brian Nieman. Burial was in the Eminence Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hillis Batterton, John James, Billy, Henry and Charlie Raisor and Rodney Young.

STELLA GOODKNOW
Stella Mae Goodknow, 97, of 777 Greenwood Drive, died Sunday, November 8, 1998 at Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.
Born January 19, 1901 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Squire Masters and Ida Mae Freeman. She was the widow of William Phillip Goodknow.
She had been a schoolteacher in Washington County and bookkeeper for the Harrodsburg Police Department, having retired after 12 years.
She was a graduate of Western Kentucky University.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Sue) Pearson, and Donna Faye Gowins, both of Harrodsburg; one sister, Faye Carey, Mackville; six grandchildren, Gloria Lister, Eddie Siler, Sherilyn Perkins, David Sims, Jerry Sims, and Ronald Jackson "Lil Jack" Pearson; five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 12, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Collier and Rev. Ken Calia officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Alyce Elizabeth Denny Brown, 75, of 347 Pleasant Hill Drive, Burgin, died Tuesday, November 10, 1998 at the home of her son in Ashland.
Born February 26, 1923 in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late John Walter and Agnes Rebecca Baker Denny.
She was a retired postal clerk for the Burgin Post Office and a member of the Burgin Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, M. G. Brown, Jr., Burgin; one son, Robert Thomas (Bob) Brown of Ashland; one daughter, Peggy Brown Britton, Louisville; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Burgin Baptist church. Burial will be in the Burgin Memorial Gardens.

Mr. J. S. Releford, 64, of 309 East Office Street, died Wednesday, November 11, 1998 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born December 15, 1933 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Walter and Diana Durr Releford.
He was retired from Cudahy, and was retired in maintenance and as a school bus driver for Mercer County elementary School.
He had served in the U. S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post #52 for 25 years. He was a member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge #777 since 1971 and a member of the Bohon Christian Church.
Survivors include: one son, Bill (Ann Clay) Miller, Irvine; one daughter, Sharon (Terry) Currens, Vine Grove; one sister, Mrs. Helen (Elmer) Clark of Kissimmee, FL; three grandchildren; one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell F. Lawson Releford; one grandson, Brian Keith Currens.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 14, at 11:00 a.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley and Chaplain Gary Story officiating. Masonic rites were held. Friday at the funeral home. Burial with military rites was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Henry Clay Cornish, 84, of 1707 Main Street Tyrone, Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, November 12, 1998 at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Frankfort.
A native of Mercer County, he was the son of the late Henry and Sarah Harley Cornish.
He was a retired farmer and construction worker and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Survivors include: five sons, Marcus (Brenda) Cornish, Marion, Davis (Lois) Cornish, Jimmy R. Cornish, Earl B. Cornish, Steven E. (Debbie) Cornish, all of Lawrenceburg; two daughters, Mrs. James (Louise) Thompson, Harrodsburg and Mrs. John (Mary Lee) Holbert, Lawrenceburg; one brother, Bruce Cornish, Mt. Washington; two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Taylor, Lawrenceburg and Mrs. Bonnie Devine, SC; 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Peavler Cornish, one daughter, Bonnie Mae Cornish and a grandson, Marcus Brent Cornish.

William Dwight Yankey, 35, of 415 Agee St., Harrodsburg, KY, died Friday, November 13, 1998 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born July 22, 1963 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of William Garland and Frances Keller Yankey, both of Mercer County.
He was a Fireman for the Harrodsburg Fire Department and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his parents include: his wife, Susan Bailey Yankey, Harrodsburg; one son, Phillip Zachary Jordan Yankey, at home; one daughter, Ansley Paige Yankey, at home; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Ronnie and Joan Bailey, Harrodsburg.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 15, at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church with Dr. Robert DeFoor, Dr. David Hartman, and Rev. Terry Cornish officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery, with full rites.

George M. "Buddy" Potts, 81, of Greenbriar Dr., Harrodsburg, died Friday, November 13, 1998 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born February 2, 1917 in Powell Co., he was the son of the late Jess and Lanie Watson Potts. He was the widower of Mercer Huffman Potts.
He was an Army veteran of WW II, a retired Danville Ready Mix employee and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Danville.
Survivors include: one daughter, George Ann Bailey, Lakeland, FL; one step daughter, Gladys Jackson, Mercer County; two brothers, Winford Potts, Dayton, OH and Kenneth Potts, Baltimore, MD; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held. Monday, November 16, 1998 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Angel Partoyan Keller, 75, 921 Bellows Mill Road, died Sunday, November 15, 1998 at her residence.
Born September 12, 1923 in Aleppo, Syria, she moved to Toledo, OH in 1929.
She was the daughter of the late Garo Vartoohi Vessayan Partoyan.
She was a former teacher for 22 years, a self-employed accountant for 40 years. She received her B. S. and Masters degrees from the University of Toledo.
She was very active in Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, serving as Collegiate District Director, Chapter Advisor, and Alumni President.
She was also active in the United Methodist Church serving on local, district and conference levels. She was a charter member of the Flower Hospital Auxiliary, was awarded the National Alumni Rose Award, and was honored as Outstanding Teacher of the Year in 1988.
She had attended Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, George Kenneth Keller, III of Toledo, OH and Garo Kevin Keller of Cheyenne, WY; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Watson, of Dallas, TX and Patricia Jean Peavler, Harrodsburg; one brother, Garo Arkel (Arky) Partoyan, McLean, VA and one sister, Sonia Minessian of MI; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., Toledo, OH. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo.

Nettie Rae Satterly Peavler, 92, of Harrodsburg Health Care Center, died Sunday, November 15, 1998 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born October 19, 1906 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Laura Coleman Satterly.
She was a former telephone operator at Duncan, a homemaker and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Darryl Glenn Peavler, Harrodsburg, and Garnett Peavler, Jr. of Garrard County; one brother, Clellan Satterly, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garnett Peavler, two brothers, Marshall Satterly and J. C. Satterly, Jr.; and four sisters, Lillian Satterly, Verna Satterly, Lettie Sea and Rettie Sims.
Funeral services were Wednesday, November 18, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. David Collier and Bro. Jack Geurin officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Nancy Allene Horton Mason, 49, of 225 West Court Street, Burgin, died Saturday, November 14, 1998 at U S. Highway 150 East of Stanford, near Crab Orchard, as the result of an automobile accident.
Born September 10, 1949 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Arlie Flannery Horton.
She was employed as a waitress at the Bowlarama Lanes Restaurant in Danville, was a graduate of Burgin High School and a member of the Burgin Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Frank A. Mason, Burgin; one daughter, Brenda A. Mason, Burgin; three brothers, Melvin Horton and Ben Horton, both of Nicholasville and Gilbert Horton of Mayo; three sisters, Gladys Clark, Burgin, Laura Tillet, High Bridge, and Peggy Hogue of Mt. Washington. One brother, Hansford Horton and one sister, Polly Waldrop, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 19, at 1:00 p.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Lester Tirey officiating. Burial will be in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

Burgin Woman Killed In Three Car Accident
Nancy Mason of Burgin was killed in a three car accident which occurred on Nov. 14.
According to a report from the Kentucky State Police, Mason, 49, was traveling east on U.S. 150 when she lost control of her vehicle and crossed the center line, striking a vehicle driven by Mark Bowlin of Tennessee, which was traveling west on U.S. 150. According to the report, the impact was nearly head on. A vehicle driven by Lori Smolinsky of Danville was traveling east on U.S. 150, made contact with both cars after they made contact with each other. Bowlin was not injured and Smolinsky complained on leg injuries, but sought her own medical attention.

Geneva "Ghee" Shirley Layman, died Saturday, November 14, 1998 at Westminster Terrace in Louisville.
Born in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late William M. and Effie Mae Shirley.
She had worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" on Super Fortress planes during WW II, as well as clerical work at War Assets and Kentucky Home Mutual Life.
She became a homemaker and did volunteer work with Girl Scouts, Jefferson County education system and her church, Concordia Lutheran, with the sewing circle.
Survivors include: one sister, Frances Smith, Mt. Zion, IL; one brother, William G. Shirley, Kenova WV; two step sons, Robert G. Layman of Crestwood, Charles Layman of Frankfort,; two sons, Edward M. Layman, Jr., and Martin W. Layman, both of Louisville; and a daughter, Shirley Layman Burks of Palmyra, IN; 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, at the Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Highway. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.

James Samuel (Sam) Taylor, 80, 426 West Court Street, Burgin died Saturday, November 14, 1998 at his residence.
Born in Washington County, September 18, 1918, he was the son of the late Hannibal and Ovie Click Taylor.
He was a retired employee of the maintenance department and a nursing assistant at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
He served in the U. S. Army during WW II.
He was a member of the Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith of Perryville.
Survivors include: his wife, Mabel Phillips Derringer Taylor, Burgin, one son, W. A. (Al) (Janice) Taylor. Alcoa, FL; one daughter, Norma Jean (Billy) Steele, Harrodsburg; two step sons, Dorsey Dean Derringer, Burgin and Donald Derringer of Harrodsburg; four step daughters, Betty Gregory, Harrodsburg, Maxine Rigney, Memphis, TN, Darlene Carmickle, Prestonsburg and Ima Major, Maysville; one brother, William Henry Taylor, Melbourne, FL; Five sisters, Thenia Bottoms, Stanford, Mabel Devine and Myrtle Dearing, both of Harrodsburg, Pauline Walls, Springfield and Joyce Fowler, Mayfield; 38 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. One brother, Willard Taylor, preceded him in death.

Cecil Garnett Yocum, 87, of 300 E. Woodford St., Lawrenceburg, died Monday, November 16, 1998 at his residence.
Born September 1, 1911 in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Jerome V. and Garnett Van Arsdale Yocum.
He was a retired Southern Railway Engineering employee.
Survivors include: his wife, Gladys Watts Yocum, Lawrenceburg; one daughter, Mrs. William Zopff, II, Lawrenceburg; one son, Larry Yocum, Lawrenceburg; three sisters, Mrs. Tom Rhea, Louisville, Mrs. Grace Davis and Mrs. William Griffin, both of Lexington; one step brother, Wade H. Redden, Seattle, Washington; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wayne Yocum.
A private cremation burial will be held at Spring Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Rolland Warner, 77, of 134 Curdsville Road, died Monday, November 16, 1998 at the Veterans Medical Center in Lexington.
Born June 19, 1921 in Washington County, he was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Wheeler Warner.
He was a farmer and had been employed for over 20 years at the Sure Flame Gas Company in Springfield.
He had served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Ellers Memorial Baptist Church where he was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include: his wife, Violet Faye Russell Warner, Harrodsburg; one son, Tony Warner of Burgin; two daughters, Patricia Settles of Burgin and Deborah Cooley of Danville; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Born July 26, 1906 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Christopher and Alice Haley Baker.
He was a retired security guard for Vance Security and a member of Moreland Christian Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Opal Price Baker, Moreland; one son, James Baker Jr., of Camp Verde, AZ; one brother, John Baker, Harrodsburg; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Myrtle "Ada" Johnson, 45, of Monticello, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Monday, November 16, 1998 as a result of an automobile accident near Monticello. She was the daughter of James Phillips and the late Margaret Coke Phillips.
Survivors include: her husband, Wayne Johnson, Monticello; her father; one son, Lonnie Wayne Johnson, Monticello; three daughters, Julie Lynn, Crystal Gale, and Kayla Marie Johnson, all of Monticello: and one sister, Juanita Spivey of Lawrenceburg.
She was an elementary school teacher in the Monticello Independent School System and a graduate of Mercer County High School.

Born April 10, 1939 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Spicy Slone Harlow Sallee of Harrodsburg and the late Sam Harlow.
He was a retired lineman for Illinois Power Company and had worked for Earl Walker Company, Sullivan, IL.
He was a member of Sullivan American Legion Post #68, Mattoon Eagles Club and Timberlake Golf Club.

Dr. William Machir "Mac" Hutton Pyles, 52, of 111 W. Broadway, died Wednesday, November 18, 1998 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born March 16, 1946 in Lexington, he was the son of James Laurence Pyles, Maysville, and the late Mary Elizabeth Hutton Pyles.
He was a veterinarian and owner of the Harrodsburg Animal Hospital. He received his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Kentucky and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ohio State University. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association.
He was vice president and co-owner of the Harrodsburg Herald, Inc. He was a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church and served on the board of the Mercer County Health Department.
Survivors, other than his father, include: his wife, Millie W. Pyles, Harrodsburg, one daughter, Laura Luellen Pyles, Tallahassee, FL; one son, Charles Machir Pyles, Harrodsburg; three sisters, Jane Pyles Collins and Grace Pyles Yunker, both of Maysville, and Elizabeth Pyles Turner of LaGrange.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 21, at the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Girard officiating. Graveside services were conducted Saturday at the Shannon Cemetery in Mason County.

Worley Medley, 88, of 110 West Broadway, Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, November 19, 1998 at his residence.
He was the son of the late Charlie and Maude Coslow Medley.
He was a Mercer County native, a member of the Claylick United Methodist Church and a retired employee with the Cull Lumber Company in Harrodsburg.
He was also a former farmer and construction worker.

James Lillard Rynerson, 80, husband of Mary Norin Rynerson, of 680 North Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, died Saturday, November 21, 1998 at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Born September 27, 1918 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late James Lillard and Ella Cunningham Rynerson.
A graduate of Berea College, he also attended the University of Chicago for his post-graduate work.
He was a retired teacher with the Chicago Public School System, a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Salvisa Methodist Church, which his family helped establish.
He was very active in both the Audubon Society and The Nature Conservancy.
Survivors, besides his wife, include: his brother, Dr. Earl Bonneau Rynerson, Winchester; a sister, Annelle Wing of Harrodsburg.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 30, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Andrew Standridge officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Brashear was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and was a retired teacher, having taught in Perry County, and Hamilton, OH. She was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Survivors include: one son, Toma G. Brashear, Gainesville, FL; one daughter, Mrs. Henry (Conchita) Grall, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

HELEN ROBINSON
Helen T. Robinson, 102, of 475 Handy Pike, died Wednesday, December 2, 1998 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born March 25, 1896 in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Will and Elizabeth Wintsch Theuer. She was the widow of Francis Emerson Robinson.
Mr. and Mrs. Robinson owned and operated the Clearview Farms of Summit, NJ, an American Saddle Horse breeding and training operation. They also owned and operated the F. E. Robinson Galleries of Summit, NJ from 1944 until 1978.
She was a judge in the American Horse Show Association and instrumental in the formation of the American Saddle Horse Association. She was also associated with the Mountjoy Horse Farm in Kentucky for a number of years and she and her husband once won the "over two" and the "under two" year old Saddle Horse Championship in the same year.
She was a Kentucky Colonel and a charter member of the Garden Grove Community Church, which became the Crystal Cathedral.
Mrs. Robinson is survived by one son, Kenneth D. Robinson, Harrodsburg; six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Mercer Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

She was a former employee of the Cowden Manufacturing Company of Springfield and was a member of the Battle Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Dave (Patricia) Nicholas, Frankfort; one son, Carl C. Beavers, Frankfort; two brothers, John Calvin Carey, Mackville and Marvin Carey, Cardwell; four sisters, Mrs. G. T. (Ruby) McRay, Springfield, Mrs. Charles (Laura) Royalty, Louisville, Christine Carey, Mackville and Susie Mattingly of Willisburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Beavers on December 3, 1993 and five brothers, George Evan Carey, William Carey, Irvin Carey, Clarence Carey and James Carey.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 5, at the Cary and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Robert H. Jackson, officiating. Burial was in the Battle Cemetery.

Fannie Bishop, 95, of Glass Avenue, Lexington, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Monday, December 7, 1998 at her residence.
Born April 23, 1903 in Rockcastle County, she was the daughter of the late James Lee and Polly Ann Griffin Arnold, and was the widow of George L. Bishop, Jr.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, George O. Bishop, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Ruby Ingram, Lexington; one brother, Bruner Arnold, Richmond, IN; four grandchildren, six step grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one step great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 9, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Easterling and Bro. Kenneth Preston officiating. Burial was in the Hopewell Cemetery.

Margaret Bowles Fenwick, 91, of Main Street, Mackville, died Saturday, December 5, 1998 at the Medco Center in Springfield.
A native of Washington County, she was born on July 8, 1907 to the late Schuyler and Ida Thompson Bowles.
She was a 1926 graduate of Mackville High School and a member of the Mackville Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mary Agnes Hurst, Springfield; one sister, Mrs. Winfield (Edith) Gabhart, Mackville; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 7, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Rev. David Gifford, assisted by Rev. Lonnie Bradley, officiating.
Burial was in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville.

He was a native of Lexington.

He had been a bulldozer operator for the Nally and Hamilton Construction Company, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
He had served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 121 in Bardstown.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Lee Green Elliott; one son, Ronnie Paul Elliott; one daughter, Gloria June Elliott; three brothers, Woodsie, Bill and Rufus Elliott; and one sister Nancy Goode.

He was owner of Terrace Acres Printing and Publishing, a former employee of Miller Printing and Publishing and of Readers Digest. He was a former resident of Oklahoma, and an army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Born May 28, 1908 in Moreland, he was the son of the late Jackson and Julia Clem Rice.
He was a retired store manager for Farmers Supply after 43 years, a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Knights Pythians Lodge, and was the widower of Louise Slaughter Rice.

He was a deacon, trustee and treasurer of Little Zion Baptist Church, a 32nd degree Mason, Silver Cord Lodge, treasurer of the Loyal Benevolent Society and a Kentucky Colonel.

He was a member of Downtown (Louisville) Kiwanis Club, a 55 year member of the Masonic Order, a former president of the Louisville Chamber of Commerce and designer of The Derby Cup.

Charles Wallace Francis, 81, of Harrodsburg Health Care, died Wednesday, December 23, 1998 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born February 12, 1917 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Bradley and Anna Laura Tyler Francis.
He was a graduate of Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, AL and a retired college professor at Buthune-Cookman College in Dayton Beach. He was a former dietitian at Wilmore College, Eastern State Hospital, and Asbury College.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Lexington.
Survivors include an uncle, Robert Tyler, Detroit, MI; five nephews, Rev. Bradley Watkins, Peoria, IL, Charles, Thomas, Bruce and Earl Mundy, all of Lexington; three nieces, Vicki L., Annetta, and Annette Mundy, all of Lexington; 12 great nephews and 12 great nieces.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 28 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter's AME Church with Rev. Warren Dolphus and Rev. Edgar Brady officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

CATHERINE MOORE
Catherine Hardin Moore, 88, died Tuesday, December 22, 1998 at Pardee Hospital, Hendersonville, NC.
A native of Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late William Perry and Flora Belle Durham Hardin. She was the widow of Charles Harrison Moore, who died in Harrodsburg in 1951.
She was class poet of the Harrodsburg High School class of 1929 and wrote and published poems throughout her life, winning several prizes. Her novel of the American Revolution, Water Under the Bridge, will be published in February 1999.
She had worked as a bookkeeper at Mercer Motors in the 1950s and later for other car dealerships in the Chicago area. In the 1960s she owned a gift shop called Sandtiques in Delray Beach, FL. She worked as an employment counselor for the State of Florida until her retirement in 1987, when she moved to North Carolina.
She had been a Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, Girl's Auxiliary leader and had been a volunteer for the Red Cross and the public schools.
Survivors include: one daughter, Judith Moore Cheney, Asheville, NC; one son, Charles Tucker (Melissa) Moore, N. Redington Beach, FL and Winnetka, IL; one grandson.
A remembrance service was held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30 at Thomas Shepherd and Son Funeral Home, Hendersonville, NC. Graveside services will be held at Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg in the Spring.

Born July 20, 1930 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Carrie Jones Donovan.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church and had performed as an in-store demo person for various food items at Kroger and Sloan's Market in Danville. Her hobby was being with her grandchildren and she was an avid animal lover.

JOHN PEAVLER
John W. Peavler, Jr., 67, of Littleton, CO died Friday, December 11, 1998.
Born September 28, 1931 in Cornishville, he was the son of the late John W. Peavler Sr., and Hallie Peavler.
He was retired from the Army and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include: his wife, Anneliese Heisig Peavler, Littleton, CO, who he married in 1960; three sisters, Zelma Nash, Hazel Hutchison and Nancy Lyons, all of Frankfort.
Funeral services were held December 14 in Littleton, CO with burial in Ft. Logan National Cemetery.

BURTICE RUSSELL
Burtice Russell, 57, of 4572 Mackville Road, died Friday, December 25, 1998 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
Born March 23, 1941 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Marcus and Elizabeth Lizzie Butler Russell.
He was a tradesman at Phillips Lighting where he had worked for 39 years.
He was a member of the Kentucky National Guard, the Mackville Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir and the Crusaders Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Salt River Antique Tractor Puller's Association and the American Flint Glass Worker's Union, Local 1009.
Survivors include, his wife: Brenda Carol Turner Russell, Harrodsburg; one son, Timothy Dale (Paula) Russell, Washington County; one daughter, Mrs. Buddy (Lisa) Beasley, Berea; one brother, William Reid Russell, Peoria, IL and one step-brother, George Henry Russell, Mercer County; one sister, Mrs. Leroy (Clara) Pyles, Albany; two stepsisters, Mrs. Lena Mae Hill, La Porte, IN and Mrs. Nannie Lou Bottom, Washington County; one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one brother, Morrison Lee Russell, and three step-brothers, Edward L, Johnnie C. and William A. Russell.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 28, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. David Gifford and Bro. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery.

Jane Louise Huddleston Stuckey, 50, of Palm City, FL, died Tuesday, December 22, in Stuart, FL.
A native of Harrodsburg, she was a daughter of the late Irvin and Lucille Huddleston.
She was a counselor with the Martin County schools and a family counselor in private practice. She was a former director of East Cooper Habitat in Mount Pleasant, SC.

LAWRENCE VOTAW
Lawrence Marion Votaw, 84, of 1383 Bohon Road, husband of the late Hazel Catherine Vandivier Votaw, died Saturday, December 26, 1998 at his residence.
Born August 31, 1914 in Arthur, IL, he was the son of the late John and Iva Alice Clayton Votaw.
He was a retired self-employed farmer, a U. S. Army veteran, a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and was a member of McAfee Masonic Lodge #229 for over 50 years.
Survivors include: one son, Ray Edward Votaw, Mercer County; two daughters, Mrs. David Lee (Pat) Baker of Mercer County and Mrs. Dan (Jill) McKenzie of Paintsville; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

DR. JOSEPH HUSTON
Dr. Joseph D. Huston, 83, of 799 Beaumont Avenue, died Sunday, December 27, 1998 at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born December 10, 1915 in Rivers, Manitoba, Canada, he was the son of the late Dr. Joseph and Olive Metcalfe Huston. He was the widower of Elizabeth (Betty Anne) Nagge Huston.
He was a member of the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church, Mercer Lodge 777 F&AM, Davis Chapter 29 R&AM and a member of the Omega Tau Sigma Professional Fraternity.
Dr. Huston graduated from Jon Bjornason Teachers Academy in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada in 1936 and taught school for one year. In 1940, he graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Following graduation, he migrated to Kentucky and established a large animal practice in Harrodsburg from 1941 to 1996.
Dr. Huston was one of a group of Canadian Veterinarians who settled in Central Kentucky in the early 1940s. This group chose counties in central Kentucky where no college trained veterinarians had practiced and Dr. Huston was recruited to come to Harrodsburg by the Mercer County Farm Bureau. He always considered Mercer County as his adopted home because of his close relationships with the many farmers and pet owners he felt so honored to serve. He often said "there was no land more beautiful than the rolling hills of Mercer County and the Commonwealth of Kentucky."
Dr. Huston was a life member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and a life member of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners. He also served on the Kentucky State Board of Examiners from 1950-1953.
He is survived by one son, William D. Huston, of Frankfort, and two grandchildren, William Patrick Huston and Suzanne Carol Huston, both of Harrodsburg.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 29, at the McClellan Funeral Home, by Rev. Les Rust, Father Joe Muench and Sister Maria Browne O.P. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
Pallbearers were William Patrick Huston, Suzanne Carol Huston, Michael Keller, Gus Clarke, Ed King, Kenneth Kirkland, Hughes Jones, Garland May, Keith Britton, Doc McKinney, Charlie Roach, James H. Moore, W. A. Miller and Jimmy Dean.

Paul Neil Chambers, 68, of Perryville, died Sunday, December 27, 1998 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born April 26, 1930 in Boyle County, he was a son of the late James and Maude Hilton Chambers.
He was retired from Corning Glass Works in Harrodsburg after 40 years. He served in the Marines during the Korean War and belonged to the Perryville Christian Church, American Legion Post 301, and Harvey Maguire Masonic Lodge 207, F&AM. He was a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include: his wife, Alice Hourigan Chambers, Perryville; five daughters, Leona Royalty-Berg, Harrodsburg, Vicki C. Brown, Danville, Debbie C. Bottom, Middleburg, Sarah Martina Allen, Perryville and Alicia Allen Lawson, Mobile, AL; two sons, Robert Allen, Danville and George Dennis Allen of Bowling Green; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 30, at the Perryville Christian Church with Rev. Guy McCombs officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Bernice "Bill" Desponett, 81, of 110 Cherry Street, Lawrenceburg, died Monday, December 28, 1998 at his home.
He was a native of Anderson County, son of the late James T. and Nora Searcy Desponett, a retired employee of Del Monte Foods Corporation in DeKalb, IL after 32 years of service, and a member of the First Baptist Church of DeKalb, IL.
He was a member of American Legion Post #34, VFW Post #6935 in Harrodsburg, a graduate of Fairview High School and a WW II Navy veteran.
Survivors include: his wife, Doris Lake Desponett, Lawrenceburg; two sons, Harold (Edith) Desponett, Leland, IL, Jim (Carol) Desponett, Lawrenceburg; two daughters, Mrs. Tony (Eloise) Fleckenstein, Fishers, IN, and Mrs. Bobby (Mildred) Holliday, Lawrenceburg; three brothers, J. P. Desponett, John Henry (Lovena) Desponett, and Dave (Brenda) Desponett; four sisters, Mrs. Bernice (Carrie) Durr, Mrs. Edith Hawkins, and Mrs. June (Susie) Wiley, all of Lawrenceburg, and Mrs. Mary Lacefield, Lexington; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Delcie Morgan.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 30, at Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Bob C. Jones and Bro. Kenneth Meredith officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

He was a retired owner and operator of Adrian Construction and a Marine veteran of WW II and the Korean Conflict.

Evelyn Owen Armstrong, 84, of the Gardens at White Chapel in Wilmington DE, died Sunday, December 27, 1998 at her residence.
Born March 23, 1914 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late William Hooker and Serena Sims Owen.
She was active in several church groups, including Westmates, was a former Girl Scout leader, a former president of the Fairview PTA and a former Sunday School teacher at the Mt. Auburn Baptist Church.
She was retired from the University of Cincinnati after 17 years of service.
Survivors include: one daughter, Cheryl Armstrong (Marion Patrick) Bagnal, Wilmington, DE; one grandson, John-Patrick B. Bagnal, Wilmington, DE.

ROY DEVINE
Roy Devine, 84, of 459 Sycamore Court, died Monday, December 28, 1998 at his residence.
Born January 1, 1914 in Washington County, he was the son of the late John Thomas and Maude Sallee Devine. He was co-owner of Harrodsburg Candy and Tobacco from 1953 until 1975. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church, where he served as Trustee and member of the Scout Hut Sunday School Class.
He was a member of the Harrodsburg Lion's Club, the Harrodsburg Tourist Commission, the Chamber of Commerce, the Fort Harrod Drama Production founding committee, and was the charter Scout leader for Boy Scout Troop 127.
Survivors include: his wife, Venita Shewmaker Devine, Harrodsburg; one son, Tom (Verna) Devine, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Cheri) Cotton, Harrodsburg; one brother, Ozro Devine, New Albany, IN; one sister, Frances Gilmore, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, two step grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 31, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. David Hartman officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Frances Sherrow Curd, 86, of 690 Mason Headley Road, formerly of 895 Maywick Drive, Lexington, widow of Ralph W. Curd, died Tuesday, December 29, 1998 in Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
Born in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late Alonzie and Clara Ann Naylor Sherrow.
She was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church.

Born December 11, 1922 in London he was the son of the late Laith and Martha Adams Vaughn.
He was a retired soap factory employee and a member of the Bethel #1 Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Jesse (Rita) Johnson, Mrs. Otis (Janie) Cunningham both of Mercer County, and Glynda Vaughn of OH; one son, Joel Vaughn Cunningham, Harrodsburg; one sister, Elsie Vaughn of London; two brothers, Lee Vaughn and Russ Vaughn, both of London; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Weldon Vaughn; one daughter, Aggie Rand; one son, Leo Vaughn; three sisters, Pearl Fredrick, Marie Goforth and Viola Inman; one brother, Albert Vaughn.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 1, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel #1 Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. James Byrd officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Earl Hungate, 78, of 585 Phillips Lane, died Wednesday, December 30, 1998 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born October 28, 1920 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Davis Bottom and Jenny Lynn Dearinger Hungate.
He was a farmer and a member of the Ebenezer Church of Christ.
