Brenda Jo Wade, 39, of 1241 Cornishville Road, died Friday, January 1, 1999 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born May 28, 1959 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Raymond and Venetta Marksbury Wade.
She was a legal secretary for the Kentucky State Library Archives and was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church, where she served as a deacon.
She was recognized as being in the top five percent of high school students in America, listed in Who's Who of High School Students, and was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. She was a member of the Women's Democratic Club of Mercer County.
Survivors, other than her parents, include: three brothers, Dennis, David, and Kenny Wade, all of Harrodsburg.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with Dr. David Hartman officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chad, Mark, Bruce and Timothy Wade, Mark Stone and Brent Steel.

RUTH SANDERS
Virginia Ruth Sanders, 89, of 2882 Lexington Road, died Sunday, January 3, 1999 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born July 29, 1909 in Monticello, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Kincade and Pearl Conley Daugherty, and was the widow of Byford Sanders.
She was a retired school teacher, having taught at Mt. Moriah and Fairview Schools. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three sons, John David Sanders, Harrodsburg, Roy Byford Sanders Jr., Anderson County, and Gerald Louis Sanders, Louisville; one brother, Louis Daugherty, Harrodsburg; three sisters, Irene Cunningham, Lawrenceburg, Dorothy Finnell, Georgetown, and Gertrude Sageser, Lexington; nine grandchildren, one step-grandchild and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Sanders, Eric Sanders, Duane Williams, Kevin Monsour, Bill Royalty and Stephen L. Bailey.

IDA BERRYMAN
Ida Mae Stevens Berryman, 103, of 117 Elam Park, Lexington, widow of Alva Berryman, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999 at her residence.
Born in Clark County, she was the daughter of the late Francis Jackson and Jeanette Berryman Stevens.
She was a member of Broadway Christian Church and a member of the Sunshine Class.
Survivors include: six daughters, Doris Sheneman, Nunica, MI, Betty Marshall and Frances Carter, both of Louisville, Ruby Wilson, and son-in-law Louis Wilson, Harrodsburg, Barbara Scott, and son-in-law, Thomas Scott, Frankfort, Molly Watts, and son-in-law, Shirley Watts, Wilmore; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Dr. Quentin Margison, Irvine; one sister-in-law, Gladys Kammerer, Cincinnati.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jerry Marshall; three brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 6, at the W. R. Milward Mortuary-Southland, in Lexington, with Rev. Jim Bird, Rev. Stuart Couve and Rev. Jim Bergan officiating. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

BLANCHE SHEWMAKER
Blanche Royalty Shewmaker, 88, of Mackville, died Sunday, January 3, 1999 at her residence.
A native of Washington County, she was born on April 22, 1910 to the late Timothy and Etta Pinkston Royalty.
She was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Harmon Shewmaker. They were united in marriage on June 11, 1927 in Jeffersonville, IN.
Other survivors include: one son, Carlton Shewmaker; four daughters, Mrs. Loveda Scott, Mrs. John D. (Jo) Sutton, Mrs. Hilry (Elaine) Hatchett and June Shewmaker, all of Mackville; two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Katheryn) Baker, Mackville and Mrs. Laverne Lay, Harrodsburg; six grandsons, nine great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Enoch Royalty, Hollie Royalty, B. M. Royalty and Champion Royalty, and four sisters, Margie Sims, Lillie Leonard, Grace Ruby and Juanita Turner.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan.5, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Chuck Robinson and the Rev. Randy Hawkins officiating. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Larry Scott, Gary Scott, Marty Hatchett, Ritchie Shewmaker, Lanny Sutton and Greg Shewmaker. JOHN McMICHAEL
John Pinkney "J. P." McMichael, 79, of 106 Evergreen Drive, Lawrenceburg, husband of the late Dorothy Gritton McMichael, died Wednesday, December 30, 1998 at his home.
A native of Anderson County, he was the son of the late Cleo and Nellie Katherine Bruner McMichael.
He was a retired police officer with the City of Lawrenceburg for 15 years, a member of First Baptist Church and Beaver Creek Lodge #335. He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Denny (Barbara) Satterly, Owensboro, Mrs. Lonnie (Kathy) Newton, Frankfort, and Pam McMichael, Louisville; two brothers, Arnold McMichael, Jeffersonville, IN, and Sherman McMichael, Harrodsburg; one sister, Rachel Lathrem, Lawrenceburg; five grandchildren; one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ira Burton, Truman, and Raymond McMichael; and three sisters, Blanche Baxter, Annie Mae Grace and Maggie B. Ritchey.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 2, at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Larry Gritton officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery with military rites.

Ivan Lee Murphy Sr., 80, of North Fifth Street, Danville, widower of Virginia Coomer Murphy, died Sunday, January 3, 1999 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born March 25, 1918 in Garrard County, he was a son of the late James and Jenny Davis Murphy.
He was a cross-country pipeline construction explosives expert and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Ivan L. Murphy Jr. and James E. Murphy, both of Danville; three daughters, Mary Leathers, Danville, Ruth West, Louisville and Margie Walls, LaGrange; three sisters, Thelma Franklin, Danville, Gladys Leonard, Salem, IN, and Mrs. Clifford Bugg of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, at Stith Funeral Home in Danville by the Rev. Barry Jeffries. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

EDNA QUINN
Mrs. Edna C. Quinn, age 70, of 640 Mooreland Avenue, widow of Elton Quinn, died Wednesday, December 30, 1998 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 2, 1928 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Charley and Lilly Claunch.
She was retired from Cricketeer, where she worked 31 years, and presently worked as a tour guide at Shakertown. She was a member of Pioneer Baptist Church.
She attended the Perryville Church of God.
Survivors include two sons: Larry D. Catlett and his wife Debbie, Harrodsburg, and William K. Proctor and his wife Lisa, Woodstock, GA; one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Peggy) Vandivier, Mercer County; five grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 2, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward Turpin and the Rev. Doug Vandivier officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Billy Russell, Buford Lewis, Doug Cooper, Kenny Whiteside, Chris Quinn and Derrick Vandivier.

NEVILLE GOOCH
Mr. Neville K. Gooch, 73, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999 at St. Matthews Manor.
He was the retired owner of Harrodsburg Hardware, a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6935 and American Legion in Harrodsburg, Masonic Lodge 942, Filson Club, Kentucky Historical Society and Summit Heights United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, the former Ramona Holmes; two daughters, Mona L. Demaree and Karen I. Gooch, and two brothers, Elmer O. and Albert E. Gooch.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Rd., Louisville. Burial was in Evergreen.

BLAKE SHIRLEY JR.
Mr. Blake Shirley Jr., 61, of 330 Woodsland Ave., husband of Mary Jaffer Shirley, died on a Monday, Jan. 4, 1999 at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, after a short illness.
Born December 10, 1937 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Blake Shirley Sr. and Laura Vivion Shirley.
He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and was working as a stocking clerk at Wal-Mart.
Survivors other than his wife include two daughters Laura Ann and Lisa Marie, both of Texas, and an aunt, Elizabeth Davenport, Harrodsburg.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, January 7, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Dr. David Hartman officiating.

ELWOOD E. "WOODY" LAY
Mr. Elwood E. "Woody" Lay, 70, of 530 N. Greenville St., husband of Jewell Gayton Lay, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999 at his residence after a short illness.
Born March 2, 1928 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William Robert Lay and Mary Naomi Wright Lay.
He was a graduate of West Side High School and attended Philander-Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas, retired from Corning Inc. after 40 years, a US Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Centennial Baptist Church.
Survivors, other than his wife, include two daughters, Wanda Jewell Lay of Brooklyn, NY and Wilma Jean Linton of Harrodsburg; two brothers, William Lay of Harrodsburg and Charles Lay of Sandusky, OH, and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Calvin Lay, James Lay, Robert Lay and John Henry Lay, and three sisters, Louise Churchwell, Margaret Lay and Carrie Lay.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Parks Funeral Home with the Rev. J. D. Short III officiating with assistance from the Rev. Phillip Yates and the Rev. Herbert Dunn Jr. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery with military rites.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and will be after 8 a.m. Thursday at Parks Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be George Fishers Jr., Kelly Bugg, Joe Denny, Alonzo Bottoms, Leon Gooch, Donald Gritton, Albert Taylor and Andy Harris.
Honorary bearers will be William "Bo" Yeast, Larry Henniger, Charles Park Sr., Louis Kerrick, Richard Dartt, James Bryant and Norman Bartleson.

Born in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Robert and Gertrude Moore and was the widower of Marie Moore.
He was a retired automobile dealer and a member of the Mormon Church.
Survivors include: one brother, Bland Moore, Nicholasville; one sister, Vera Williams, Franklin, TN; two daughters, Jean Badensted and Colleen Lund; one step daughter, Lynn Elrey; 10 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Born June 11, 1927 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Bright and Allie Helm Herring.
He was a carpenter and a member of the Beuna Vista Baptist Church.
He was a Kentucky Colonel and an army veteran of WW II.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God.

Born February 8, 1923 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William and Lillian Sea Satterly.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church where she was a member of the Pals Sunday School Class.
Survivors include: her husband, Robert Patterson, Davenport, Harrodsburg, two daughters, Sharon Dale Davenport and Mrs. David (Robin Ann) Beams, both of Mercer County; one son, Michael Lynn Davenport, Lexington; one sister, Mrs. Frances Marie Wells, Harrodsburg; two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul C. Satterly.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 11, at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Easterling officiating. Burial was in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jaunita Morris Yeast, 70, of 422 Bates Street, widow of Claude Len Yeast, died Sunday, January 10, 1999 at her residence.
Born April 29, 1928 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Albert and Minnie Louallen Morris.
She was a retired inspector for Corning of Harrodsburg, a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church, a member of the American Flint Glass Workers Union.
She was a former member of the VFW Auxiliary and a former member of the Homemakers club.
Survivors include: one son, Willard Rue Yeast, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Claudia Yeast Dunning, Burgin, one brother, Lucien Albert Morris, Danville, one sister, Mrs. Kenneth W. (Pauline) Burns, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 13, at Spring Hill Cemetery with Bro. Danny Sallee officiating. There was no visitation.

Born May 18, 1918 in Cincinnati, OH he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Perry Hale.
He was a retired finish carpenter and a Baptist.

Hale, Lexington, Lewis Hale, Nicholasville; two daughters, Carrie Mae Benson and Lorena Pearl Shofner, both of Nicholasville; two brothers, Beverly Hale of Renfro Valley and Lonnie Hale of Hamilton, OH; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She was a retired nurse at Eastern State Hospital in Lexington and a member of the Centennial Baptist Church.

Born August 11, 1938 in Casey County, he was a son of the late Otis A. and Ollie Wilcher King.
He was a former drug store owner, and Air Force Veteran and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Kalamazoo, MI.

Harvey Lee McFerron, 103, of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, January 10, 1999 at the Rockcastle Hospital.
He was born in Rockcastle County on June 4, 1895, the son of John and Rebecca Barnes McFerron.
He was a retired truck driver and merchant and was a member of the Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three sons, Estel (Zelma) McFerron, Mt. Vernon, Ronald (Ruby) McFerron, Mt. Vernon, Lester (Evelyn) McFerron, Cincinnati, OH; four daughters, Rissie Newman, Cincinnati, OH; Lorene (George) Rowe, West Chester, OH, Lucy Durham, Mt. Vernon, Louella French, Pine Hill; one sister, Melissa Mink, Orlando, KY; 50 grandchildren, 132 great grandchildren, 116 great great grandchildren and six great great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Corda McFerron, his second wife, Nona McFerron, and three sons, Paul, William, and Mitchell McFerron.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 12, at the Dowell and Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, by Bro. Lester Caldwell. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
