LLOYD SWICKARD
Lloyd Edwin "Ted" Swickard, 59, of 213 South College Street, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, NC.
Born January 21, 1940 in Indianapolis, IN he was the son of Alice May Benjamin and the late Carl Swickard Sr.
He was a short order cook and a member of the Berea Christian Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: one son, Lloyd E. "T. J." Swickard Jr., Danville; one step daughter, Joyce Louise Sharpe and step son, Gerry "Bo" Olsen, both of Burlington, NC; three brothers, Robert "Bud" Swickard, Whiteland, IN, Richard "Jack" Swickard, Seattle, WA and Carl Swickard, Indianapolis, IN.
Funeral services were held March 17, at the Berea Christian Church with Rev. Gary Allen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Reynolds, Josh Pendegrist, John Pendegrist, Ricky Catlett, Billy Simpson and Gene Curtsinger. Honorary bearers were Terry Foley and men of the Berea Christian Church.
Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

JOHN THOMPSON
John Henry Thompson, 91, of 3020 Kirkwood Road, Salvisa, died Sunday, March 14, 1999 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born July 13, 1907 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Dee Thompson and Nellie Reynolds Thompson. He was the widower of Sadie Grace Corwin Thompson.
He was a retired farmer and a member of the Mayo Christian Church.
Survivors include; one niece, Mrs. Cape (Louise) Anderson, Lexington; two great nieces, Judy Lambert, Lexington and Janet Wheatley, Oklahoma; two great great nieces and two great great nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Thompson Long.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 17, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Elwood Norton officiating. Burial was in the Hopewell Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sonny Poulter, Eddie Nichols, Steve Baxter, Jerry Downey, Cecil Hawvermale, and Bert Lambert.

MAYME ROGERS
Mayme L. Rogers, 90, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at Pattie A. Clay Hospital in Richmond. She was the widow of John H. Rogers.
Born October 21, 1900 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Willia Royalty.
She was a member of the Big Hill Avenue Christian Church and was a retired nurse at the Pattie A. Clay Hospital in Richmond.
Survivors include one daughter, Rachel Emmons; one brother, Leon Royalty, Lexington; one sister, Lillie Mae Robinson, Harrodsburg; eight grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and fifteen great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Clarence Robert Rogers and Everett Cornell Rogers, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 5 at the Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home, Richmond with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery.

GORDEN McMURRY
Gorden F. McMurry, 86, of 606 Scenic Drive, died Friday, March 12, 1999 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born January 19, 1913 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Henry Waldson and Alice Albertine Bunton McMurry.
He was a farmer and had retired from Corning Glass.
He was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church and the Scout Hut Sunday School class and was a member of the National Guard.
Survivors include: his wife, June Vivien McMurry, Harrodsburg; two sons, Dr. Gorden Thomas McMurry, Louisville, and Kenneth Eugene McMurry, Carrolton; two sisters, Martha Jane DeCamp, Kissimmee, FL and Albertine Moore, Lawrenceburg; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 15, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. David Hartman officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy McMurry, Donnie McMurry, Ken McMurry, Bill Huff, Doug Greenburg and Donnie Tyler. Honorary bearers were Fred Purvis, James Ellis, Kenny Wade, Garland Yankey, Tebbs Moore.

GERTRUDE CAMIC
Gertrude Camic, 91, of 2050 Garden Springs Drive, Lexington, died Monday March 15, 1999 at the Emerson Center in Lexington.
Born February 7, 1908 in Harrodsburg she was the daughter of the late Henderson Allen and Hattie Cosby Camic.
She was a bookkeeper and taught school in the Mercer school system at Bohon.
She was a member of the Southern Hills Methodist Church.
Survivors include: one brother, Cleo Camic, Harrodsburg; three nephews, one niece, three great nephews and six great nieces. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna and Alma Camic, and two brothers, Marvin and Marshall Camic.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, March 17, at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Rev. Mark Girard officiating.

Bertha Hendren Gilliland, 100, of Hope, IN died Friday, March 12, 1999 at the Community Care Center in Nashville, IN.
Born October 13, 1898 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Katie Taylor Hendren. She was the widow of Herman Best and Walter Gilliland.
She was a member of the Church of Christ in Columbus, IN.
Survivors include two sons, Buell Best, Florida and Gene Best, Bloomington, IN; two sisters, Sarah Holliday and Beva Kennedy, Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday March 15 at Norman Funeral Home in Hope, IN. Burial was in Greensburg, IN.

Sam D. Sheperson, 92, of 209 E. Poplar St., died Monday, March 15, 1999 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born May 7, 1906 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Jim and Addie Owens Sheperson. He was the widower of Nora Jane Baker Sheperson.
He was a retired carpenter, member of Carpenter's Local # 1650, and a member of the Hedgeville Baptist Church, where he served as deacon.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Everett (Beatrice) Hall and Mrs. Robert (Loretta) Sadler, both of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Robert and Wallace Sheperson, both of Harrodsburg; four sisters, Lorain Burns, Burgin, Sada Carey and Molly Carey, both of Lexington, and Isabell Cummins, Celina, TN; five grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren and six step great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Sam D. Sheperson Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 18, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Cato and Rev. Bill Hall officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Sheperson, Bobby Sheperson, Mike Sheperson, Jim Burns, Bruce Carey and Jerry Gray. Honorary bearers will be grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law.

Roy L. Taylor, 75, of 215 High Street, Burgin, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born April 10, 1923 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Arthur and Alice McGuire Taylor.
He was an employee of the Kentucky State Transportation Department and a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church.
He was an army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: his wife, Anna Lee Taylor, Burgin; two daughters, Anna Rose Chilton, Frankfort, and Mary Catherine Goodlett, Burgin; one brother, Everett Taylor of Lexington; two sisters, Roberta Taylor, Edison, NJ and Barbara Fruch, Seattle, WA; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one great grandchild; two brothers, A. J. and Tommy Taylor; one sister, Geneva Portersnak.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 18, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Don Releford officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Goodlett, Kevin Arrasmith, Eric Kelly, John Shouse, Steven Proctor and Eddie Jenkins.

Raymond Hill, Jr., age 69, of 1031 Lexington Road, died Thursday, March 18, 1999 at the home of his daughter on 344 Normans Camp Road.
Born June 10, 1929 in Barberton, OH, he was the son of the late Raymond and Beulah Schrest Hill, Sr.
He was a former employee of the Kentucky State Hospital, a Kentucky Colonel and attended the Church of God.
Survivors include: four sons, Raymond Hill, Goshen, Douglas Hill, Holly Hill, FL, William Alan Hill, Burgin, and Christopher Ray Hill, Jacobus, PA; one daughter, Barbara Jean Sparks, Mercer County; four sisters, Dolores Hulett, Harrodsburg, Beulah Hendren, Lexington, Aldena Arnica, Parma, OH and Carolyn Sharpe, Lexington; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his stepmother Celestine Hill and one sister, Joann Miller.
Funeral services were Sunday, March 21 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Williams officiating. Burial was in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

Iona Durr Releford, 91, of 551 Cornishville Street, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
She was born August 26, 1907 in Washington County and was the widow of William Releford.
She was a retired seamstress from Cricketeer, a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, and a member of the Faithful Followers Sunday School class.
Survivors include: three grandchildren, Beverly Bowers, Palm Harbor, FL, Sandra Fultz and Dennis Devine, both of Harrodsburg; one sister, Addie Robinson, Lawrenceburg; five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Marie Releford Devine; two brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 24, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Jane Sanders Brent, 68, One Prince Avenue, Lexington, died Saturday, March 20, 1999 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
She was born May 6, 1930 in Burgin and was the daughter of the late Owens Barnett and Blanche Glass Sanders.
She was a retired computer assistant with the Federal Correctional Institution in Lexington and a member of the Christian Church.
Survivors include: one son: Larry Allen Diamond, Lexington; three daughters, Tanya D. Markwell, Lawrenceburg, Karen Lou Courtney, Lexington, Lisa Dee Diamond, Lexington; seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted, Wednesday, March 24, at the McClellan Funeral Home by Dr. David Hartman. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

ROBERT CHAMBLESS
Robert Lee Chambless, 81, of 115 W. Poplar Street, died Saturday, March 20, 1999 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born July 24, 1917 in Fayetteville, AL, he was the son of the late John Thomas and Ida Berry Chambless.
In 1977, he retired as the District Manager, Birmingham, AL, Division of South Central Bell (now BellSouth) after 41 years of service. During his career, he served in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, FL.; New Orleans, Baton Rouge, LaFayette and Lake Charles, LA. In 1959, he was named division plant manager for the East Division of Kentucky, consisting of Danville, Frankfort and Winchester. He was in Louisville as a traffic manager, division plant manager and general plant supervisor. He also worked in Owensboro and Richmond.
Chambless served as past president of the Kentucky Pioneers Telephone Association, Kentucky Chapter 32 of Telephone Pioneers of America and of the Daniel Boone Chapter, Telephone Pioneers of America.
He attended the University of Alabama School of Engineering and graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in business administration.
He was active in Junior Achievement and was a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Waters Chambless, Harrodsburg; three sons, Robert Lee Chambless Jr., Munfordville, Thomas M. Chambless, Louisville and John William Chambless, MS; two daughters, Rita Chambless West, Falls of Rough, and Robin Chambless, New Orleans, LA; 11 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 23, at the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mark Girard and Dr. David Ross. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to be given to the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army.

J. F. TYLER
J. F. Tyler, 72, of 785 Horn Road, died Saturday, March 20, 1999 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born August 19, 1926 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Virgil Lee and Cordelia Webb Tyler.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a retired farmer.
Survivors include: his wife, Amanda Coker Tyler, Harrodsburg; one son, Donnie (Pauline) Tyler, Mercer County; four sisters, Mrs. Archie Britton and Mrs. Lois Bradley, both of Mercer County, Mrs. Jane Burcell and Mrs. Nancy Lawson, both of Rockford, IL; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Tyler; three brothers, Andy J., Marshall and Billy Tyler; two sisters, Mabel Lake and Louise Wilson.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 22, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Everett Priddy and Bro. Hilary Claypool officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

William Henry Underwood, 91, of 517 Ashland Avenue, Shelbyville, died Friday, March 19, 1999 at Shelby Manor Health Care Center.
Born August 25, 1907, in Boyle County, he was the son of the late J. T. and Elma Coulton Underwood.
He was a bookkeeper and an army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Shelbyville First Christian Church where he served as an elder, and a member of the Upper Room Bible class.
He was a member of Solomon Lodge #5 and a former member of the Shelbyville Rotary Club.
Survivors include: his wife, Sarah VanArsdall Underwood, Shelbyville; three sons, William V. Underwood, Lexington, George Underwood, Deerfield Beach, FL, and John Riker Underwood, Orlando, FL; one brother, J. T. Underwood, Frankfort; three sisters, Elizabeth Williams, Rachel Dunsmore and Mildred Bowling, all of Danville; four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 22, at the First Christian Church in Shelbyville with Dr. Howard Griffith officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Dan F. Hendrix, 92, of 565 Crawford Lane, Stanford, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Friday, March 19, 1999 at Ft. Logan Hospital in Stanford.
Born November 13, 1906 in Leslie County, he was the son of the late Levi and Diana Adams Hendrix. He was the widower of Joanna Caudill Hendrix.
He was a retired farmer and a member of the Dix River Church of Christ.
Survivors include: four sons, George Hendrix, William Lee Hendrix and Larry C. Hendrix, all of Harrodsburg, Dan Hendrix, Jr., Seymour, IN; one daughter, Juanita Day, Stanford; two sisters, Judy Baker, Yeaddis, and Jenny Madden, Peru, IN; three grandchildren,, 46 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 22, at the Dix River Church of Christ with Bro. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial was in the Dix River Church of Christ cemetery.

Jacob A. Votaw, 75, of Vista, CA, died Monday, March 22, 1999 in California.
Born in Mercer County, June 23, 1923, he was the son of the late Renious Votaw and Ophelia Curry Votaw.
He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: four daughters, Sandra Votaw and Shirley Ferguson, both of CA, and Barbara Dehme and Laurie Gerhardt, both of MN; one son, Robert Votaw, CA; two sisters, Catherine Votaw Matherly, Jeffersontown, and Margaret Votaw Proctor, Mercer County; two brothers, Hershel Votaw, Mercer County, and Donald Votaw, Anderson County.
Services and burial were in California.

Lillian Padgett, 77, formerly of Mercer County, died Friday, March 5, 1999 at her home in Newport.
Born May 21, 1921 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Baker and Ruth Massey. She was the widow of Ivan Padgett.
Survivors include: three daughters, Eloise Bell and Carol Vinyard, both of Harrodsburg, Annette Sailor of Newport; three brothers, Carl Baker, Danville, Forest Baker, GA, and Charlie Baker, Shelbyville; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Delilah Anderson and a son, Walter VanArsdall, a sister, Dorothy May Hill, a brother, Bobby Baker.
Funeral services were held in Newport.

Jo Ann Butler Sexton, 68, of 333 E. Main Street, Burgin, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999 at the Ephraim McDowell Medical Center in Danville.
Born March 5, 1931 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Arch Owen and Vera Coovert Butler. She was the widow of Chester W. Sexton.
She was a former clerk at the Fort Harrod Pharmacy and had worked as an operating room technician at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of the Burgin Baptist Church and was formerly active in the Burgin PTA, the Order of the Eastern Star, and Girl Scouts. She was also an avid bowler, having participated in various leagues for many years.
Survivors include: two sons, Barry W. and Brian Scott Sexton, both of Burgin; two daughters, Mary Jo Keebortz and Lori Pike, both of Harrodsburg; one step son, George E. Sexton, Danville; two sisters, Brenda Sue Sexton and Vera Newton Stewart; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mark Caldwell-Reiss and Rev. Joseph Vest officiating. Burial will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Brennan, George, and Joseph Scott Sexton, Brandon Lenhart, Jamie Keebortz, Lee and Joe Monroe and Tim Pike.

Born February 2, 1932 in Mercer County, he was a son of the late John and Georgie B. Dean McGrath.
He was a retired construction worker and a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Ronald, Mark and John McGrath, all of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Curtis Eugene Baker, 66, of Georgia Street, Versailles, formerly of Washington County, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999 at Norton Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.
Born November 3, 1932 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Bishop E. and Ollie Mae Ross Baker.
He was a retired employee of the Square D Company of Lexington and was a member of the Camden Avenue Church of Christ in Versailles.
Survivors include: his wife, Carol Sue Noel Baker, Versailles; one daughter, Mrs. Ollie (Sheila) Purvis, Frankfort; one sister, Mrs. Jerry (Donna) Darland, Springfield: two grandchildren, David and Kelly Buffin, two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene Reed on April 29, 1998.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Burnice Richardson officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.
Pallbearers were David Buffin, Kelly Buffin, Troy Carrier, Trevor Carrier, Greg Abner and Kenneth Noel. Honorary bearers were Norvie Baker, Ruel Baker, Harvey Baker and Ken Reed.
