BILLY VOTAW
Billy Wayne Votaw Sr., 52, of 202 Pioneer Street, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born June 9, 1946 in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John Coleman and Edna Riley Votaw.
He was a maintenance technician for Keeneland Race Track in Lexington.
Survivors include: his wife, Janet Marie Hensley Votaw; one son, Billy Votaw, Jr., two daughters, Jennie Thompson, Penny Baker; two brothers, Freddie Votaw and Johnnie Votaw and one sister, Loretta Votaw, all of Harrodsburg; eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Gerlach; two brothers, Burchel Votaw and Jimmy Votaw.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 3, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Paul Readnour officiating. Burial was in the Lancaster Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clinton Votaw, Josh Blevins, Roy Lee Cox, Jr., Wayne Taylor Jr., Timmy Taylor, and Rick Merrick.

ELIZABETH WARREN
Elizabeth Warren, 83, of 194A Daisy Ct., died Sunday, April 4, 1999 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born June 24, 1915 in Stanford, she was the daughter of the late Lemuel Garfield and Nora Elizabeth Mason Powell. She was the widow of Herbert Ellis Warren.
She was a retired clerk for Hub Frankel in Danville and was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Robert Warren, Salvisa; one daughter, Peggy Roark, Harrodsburg; two brothers, Logan and Henry Powell, both of Nicholasville; one sister, Dorothy Powell, Nicholasville; six grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday April 6 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Robert DeFoor and Eddie Russell officiating. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Keith Warren, John Todd Warren, Eddie Burton, Danny Watts, Kristopher Meyer, Gary Lee Winchester, David McKee, Jorg Potts and Richard Green. Honorary bearers were Sharon Meyer, Teri Colvin, Dotie Burton, and Susan McKee.

GARNETT McCRYSTAL
Garnett McCrystal, 76, of 1049 Wyndham Hills Drive, Lexington, died Thursday, April 1, 1999 at the Thompson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.
Born April 13, 1922 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Henry and Nora Logue McCrystal.
He had worked as a central office technician for South Central Bell and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
He was a member of the Bethel Cumberland #1 Presbyterian Church, a deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher.
He was an army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: his wife, Lois McCrystal, Lexington; three daughters, Dianne Goodaker, Lake Charles, LA, Denise Placidio, Nicholasville, and Kathy Hocker, Lexington; two sisters, Aileen Black, Harrodsburg, Beulah Schooling, Louisville; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 5, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with James Byrd officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Elizabeth Hansen, 49, of 557 Beaumont Avenue, died Friday, April 2, 1999 at her residence.
Born August 12, 1949 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Merlin and Marguerite McCrystal Shewmaker. She was the widow of Ronald "Bub" Hansen.
She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Denise Dean, Harrodsburg; one son, Bradley Hansen, Lexington; two brothers, Dennis Shewmaker and Richard Shewmaker, both of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Rita Taylor, Harrodsburg and Diane Duvall, Cleveland, OH; one granddaughter, Haley Dean, Harrodsburg. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Shewmaker.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 5, at the St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Joseph Muench officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brian Heise, Doc McKinney, Jerry Schroeder, Junior Mobley, Charles McCrystal and Jim McGlone.

LOUISE GRAY
Louise Nave Gray, 79, of 122 Benton Street, Burgin, died Thursday, April 8, 1999 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born August 22, 1919 in Mercer County she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eliza Freeman Nave Sr.
She was a retired employee of the Kentucky State Hospital and a member of the Burgin Baptist Church. She was the widow of William Floyd Gray.
Survivors include: two sons, William E. (Patsy) Gray, Burgin, Jerry (Glenda) Gray, Burgin; one sister, Mrs. Gladys Sexton, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Ernest Nave and one sister, Hazel Nave.
Funeral services were Sunday, April 11 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Pastor Kenny Speaks officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Guilford Waggener, Bill Patrick, David Sims, Terry Wheeler, Bill Harrison and Donnie Sexton. Honorary bearers were Joe Willis, June Christy, Louise Thomas, Ruby Vandiver, Claudine Garr and members of Mrs. Gray s working department at the Kentucky State Hospital.

Lizzie Rae Beasley, age 71, of 1817 Cantrell Drive, Lexington, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born March 12, 1928 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Will and Sallie Banks Jenkins.
She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and retired from Cricketeer.
Survivors include: two daughters, Joyce Baxter, Harrodsburg, and Phyllis Christopher, Lexington; one brother, Paul Jenkins, Harrodsburg; four sisters, Carolyn Stephens, Ruby Coslow, Marie Jenkins, and Nellie Ward, all of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren.

RUBYE SMITHEY
Rubye Payne Smithey, 80, Cardinal Meadows, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999 at her residence.
Born December 26, 1918 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late T. O. and Hazel Wheeler Payne.
She was a graduate of Cornishville High School, a Kentucky Colonel, a retired employee of Mercer County Senior Citizens and a member of the Bohon Church of Christ.
Survivors include: four daughters, Anna Reed, Harrodsburg, Jeannette Milburn, Burgin, Betty Jo Sanders, Harrodsburg and Billie Sue Shirley, Waynesboro, MS; one sister, Christine Meacham, Cocoa, FL; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 10, at the Bohon Church of Christ with Rev. Kenneth Preston officiating. Burial was in the Bohon Church of Christ Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Field Reed, Tom Reed, Lee Sanders, Marty Milburn, James Milburn, Jackie Claycomb and Stephen Shirley. Grandchildren served as honorary bearers.

Lisa Kaye Yeager Dial, 39, of 111 Whitney Avenue, Lawrenceburg, died Sunday, April 11, 1999 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
A native of Mercer County, she was the daughter of Roselyn Marie Combs Yeager, Harrodsburg, and the late Edwin Carroll Yeager.
She was an employee of Universal Fasteners, Lawrenceburg a member of the Van Buren Baptist Church and a 1977 graduate of Mercer County High School.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Joseph Ricky Dial; a daughter, Amy Nicole Dial; two sons, Joseph Daniel Dial and Ricky Lee Dial, all of Lawrenceburg; three brothers, Timothy Carroll Yeager, Lexington, Travis Scott Yeager, Lawrenceburg, and James William Yeager, Harrodsburg; paternal grandfather, Marvin Yeager, Salvisa.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 14, at Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Paul Hagerman and Bro. Harry Hebert officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Price Orvan Ransdell, age 67, of 22 Taft Highway, Dry Ridge, formerly of Lexington, died Sunday, April 11, 1999 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Williamstown.
Born December 25, 1931 in Mercer County he was the son of the late Ralph Johnson Ransdell and Margaret Royalty Roberts.
He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington and had been a green house employee in Grant County.
Survivors include: a half brother, Ralph Johnson Ransdell, Jr., of Lexington; two sisters, Jean Ransdell and Nancy (Tommy) Neal, both of Lexington; one half sister, Sandra (Mike) Gabbard, Lexington; two step sisters, Sharon (Larry) Staford, Lexington, Glenda Carpenter.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 14, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Carpenter officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Beulah Dean Devine, 85, of Mackville Road, Springfield died Sunday, April 4, 1999 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
A native of Washington County, she was born March 27, 1914 to the late George and Pearl Cummins Dean.
She was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Cleo Devine; one daughter, Mrs. Leo (Doris) Lay, Willisburg; two sons, Jimmy Devine, Harrodsburg and Gary Devine, Springfield; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 7, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Rev. J. W. Hatfield and Rev. C. E. Butler, officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Willisburg.

HELEN MILBURN
Helen Lay Milburn, 64, of Mackville Hill, Springfield, died Thursday, April 8, 1999 at the Medco Center in Springfield.
Born May 23, 1934 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of Dan and Opal Burns Bugg and the late Dan Bugg.
She was a member of the Springfield Christian Church and was a retired school bus driver for the Washington County School System.
Survivors include: her mother, Mrs. Opal Claunch, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Lisa Dean, Springfield, Mrs. Paul (Joanna) Coulter, Willisburg; four sons, Billy Lay, Lawrenceburg, Joey Lay, Evansville, IN, Bernie Lay, Springfield, Robert Lay, Louisville; one stepson, Larry Dale Milburn, Springfield; three sisters, Dorothy Noel and Mrs. Tommy (Jane) Jackson, both of Harrodsburg, Mrs. William (Inez) Russell, Wilmore; three brothers, Marshall Bugg, Boston, MA, Donnie and Glenn Bugg, both of Burgin; 14 grandchildren, two step grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her first husband, Joe Lay, her second husband, Clarence B. Milburn; and one son, Mike Lay.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 10, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Bowen officiating. Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery.

Pearl Freeman Bryan, 82, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999 at her home in St. Matthews.
Born May 19, 1916 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel Taylor Freeman and Margaret Hurst.
She was a retired social worker for the state of Kentucky, and a real estate broker.
She was a member of Beargrass Christian Church in Louisville.
Survivors include: two sons, Hal D. Bryan, Frankfort, and Edward F. Bryan IV, Laconia, IN; three brothers, Marvin and Roy Freeman, Mercer County, and Leon Freeman, Louisville; two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 10, at Pearson Funeral Home, Louisville, with burial in the Ebenezer Church of Christ Cemetery in Mercer County.

Edward C. Edwards, 71, of Scrubgrass Road, Gravel Switch, died Monday, April 12, 1999 at Central Baptist Hospital.
Born April 15, 1927 in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Beckham and Zenia Montgomery Edwards. He was a retired press operator for Cricketeer Manufacturing and a farmer.
He was a member of Gravel Switch United Methodist Church and T. W. Wash Masonic Lodge, where he was a 50 year member.
Survivors include: his wife, Christina Hafley Edwards; one son, Gary Edwards of Perryville; one daughter, Judy Lanham, Perryville; two sisters; Betty Hall, Gravel Switch and Hattie Fenwick, Springfield; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville. Burial will be in Elder Cemetery.

DANIEL VINYARD
Daniel T. Vinyard, 64, of Louisville, formerly of Harrodsburg died Saturday, April 10, 1999 in Woodford County.
Born June 8, 1935 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Marcella Noel Vinyard.
He was a retired Jefferson County school teacher and a member of the Christian church. Mr. Vinyard attended Berea College and was a graduate of the University of Kentucky.
Survivors include: two sisters, Loretta Beasley and Joyce Anderson, both of Harrodsburg; one niece and four nephews.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, April 14, at Spring Hill Cemetery with Rev. James Hafley officiating.
Pallbearers were Louis and Greg Anderson, Tommy and Buddy Beasley and Sissy Anderson.

JOHN VINYARD
John L. Vinyard, 71, of 653 Perryville St., died Sunday, April 11, 1999 at his residence.
Born October 16, 1927 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late John R. and Cellie B. Covert Vinyard.
He was a retried Expeditor for the Typewriter Division of IBM, and was a licensed broker and auctioneer, cattle judge, and lifetime member of DAV.
He served in the U. S. Navy from September 28, 1945 to October 19, 1946.
He was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church, and had attended the Pioneer Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Hallie Lambert Vinyard, Harrodsburg; one son, John Steven Vinyard, Harrodsburg; two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 14, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lewis Walter and Doug Vandiver officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Yankey, Jeff May, Leon Burns, and Tommy Yankey. Honorary bearers were Bob Bishop, Paul Devine and members of his Sunday School class.

Born December 3, 1931 in Pike County, he was the son of the late Orbe and Marmie Tackett.
He was retired from McGlone Construction Company and a member of a Baptist Church in Pike County.
Survivors include: one daughter, Teresa Steele, Harrodsburg; two brothers, Arvid Tackett and Gary Tackett, both of Harrodsburg; five sisters, Marcella Holderman, of Springfield, Joyce Hall, Jean Compton, Linda Shewmaker and Patricia Yeast, all of Harrodsburg; one half-brother, John Holt, Grand Rapids, MN; two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Roger Dale Tackett and one brother, Orville Tackett.

Ann Marie Watts, 38, died suddenly Tuesday, April 6, 1999 in Louisville at Norton Audubon Hospital.
She was employed at Mazzoni s Oyster Café.
Survivors include her parents, Reuben and Mary Watts; sisters, Jean Baker, Gemma Grisanti and Barbara Watts; brothers John D., James T., Kenneth J. and Kevin M. Watts, all of Louisville.
She was the granddaughter of the late Loman and Hannah Watts of Mercer County and the niece of the late Wayne Watts of Harrodsburg.

He was a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church, the Board of Trustees, Administrative Board, United Methodist Men, and the Carroll Cole Sunday School Class.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge #1, F&AM, Lexington and served in the Navy during World War II.
Survivors include: his wife, Flora Morgan Bentley, Harrodsburg; one son, Joseph Bentley, Richmond; one daughter, Marie McIntyre, Lexington; one sister, Lucille Pinson, Pikeville; two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, John Bentley; one daughter, Kimberly Curtsinger; and one grandchild, Jeffra Curtsinger.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 26, at the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Girard and Rev. David Ross officiating. Burial was in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens, Nicholasville.

Born May 15, 1926 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Houston and Estella Anderson Proctor. She was the widow of Bill Bussell and Edward Hardin.
She was a retired clerk for the Kroger Company in Harrodsburg and was a member of Ellers Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Jolene Phillips, Harrodsburg; one daughter-in-law, Emma Hardin, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, David Hardin, and a grandson, Bobby Phillips.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 27, 1999 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
