Louise Mattingly Taylor, 93, of Lexington, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999. Born April 13, 1906 in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Rose Ella Carrico Mattingly. She retired from the University of Kentucky food service department and was a member of the Grace Baptist Church. Survivors include: one sister, Mrs. Fred (Mildred) Anderson, Harrodsburg; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. John Franklin (Rose Ann) Bohon of Lexington; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilson Earl Bohon, and her second husband, Charles Thomas Taylor to whom she was married 49 years; two sons, John Franklin Bohon and William Earl Bohon; one step son, Roy Lee Bohon; one daughter, Marge Ella Bohon and one step daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Bohon; three sisters, Mrs. Owen (Mary) Richardson, Mrs. Gilbert (May) Anderson and Mrs. Leonard (Margaret) Wilson; four brothers, Marvin, Onis, John "Jocko" and James Mattingly. Graveside services were held Saturday, June 5 at Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg with Dr. Terrence Freeman officiating. HOLLIE GASH
Hollie Davis "Pete" Gash, 89, of 208 Greenview Drive, Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center. A native of Mercer County, he was the son of the late Forrest Everett and Julia Phillips Gash. He was a retired state employee having worked at the toll booth, and a retired farmer. He was a member of the Goshen Baptist Church, St. John s Lodge #125, Salvisa, and a 1930 graduate of Kavanaugh High School. Survivors include: his wife of 62 years, Hazel McKee Gash, Lawrenceburg; two sons, Roy Davis (Yvonne) Gash, San Diego, CA, Ezra (Becky) Gash, Danville; one daughter, Betty Moore, Lawrenceburg; five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Gash and Robert Gash, and two sisters, Mabel Carey and Valena Etherington. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 5, at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Fred Knickerbocker and Bro. J. Alvin Hardy officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Alice Ray Drury Darnell, 90, of Dugansville Road, died Friday, June 4, 1999 at Heritage Hall Care Center in Lawrenceburg. An Anderson County native, she was the daughter of the late Clay and Effie Hoskins Drury. She was a homemaker and member of the Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include: a daughter-in-law, Louise Darnell, Lawrenceburg; a sister-in-law, Venetta Drury, Washington County; a half sister, Gladys Martin, Lawrenceburg; four grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Grant Darnell, two sons, an infant and Luther Clay "L. C." Darnell; five brothers, Clyde, Haskell, Arlie, Walter and H. C. Drury; and a sister, Lola Sims. Funeral services were Sunday, June 6, at the Bethel Baptist Church in Mercer County, with Bro. Jack Geurin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. CHARLES SMITH
Rev. Charles H. Smith, 79, of 306 North Magnolia Street, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born May 11, 1920 in the Stringtown area of Mercer County, he was the son of the late James Otis Smith and Sue P. Jordan Smith. He was a retired maintenance supervisor at the University of Kentucky, an associate minister at First Baptist Church, and a veteran of the US Army in World War II, where he received a bronze star. He attended West Side High School, was a member of the Silver Cord Lodge, a member of the ministers and deacons of the South District Association, a member of the Missionary Society at First Baptist, and was a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors include: his wife, Price Gentry Smith, Harrodsburg; four sons, Charles Smith, Jr., NJ, Byron "Bo Bo" Smith, and James "Jim" Smith, both of Harrodsburg, and Dale Smith, Omaha NE; two step sons, John C. Mitchell and Albert T. Mitchell, both of Harrodsburg; five daughters, Irene VanDyke, Urbana, OH, Almetra Smith, Fairfield, OH, Debra Ann Raines and Angela Smith, both of Harrodsburg, and Laura Sue Hall, Houston, TX; one brother, Ansel E. Smith, Cincinnati, OH; one sister, Artie Pearl Brown, Harrodsburg; 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 10, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Gentry officiating. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville. Loretta C. Terhune, 80, of 600 Elizabeth Ct., died Friday, June 4, 1999 at Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born September 4, 1918 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Gilman and Madie Alford Coslow. She was a homemaker and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. Survivors include: her husband, Marvin Terhune; three daughters, Joann Milburn, Jeannie Warner and Linda Lance; two sons-in-law, Eugene Milburn and Larry Lance, all of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, June 7, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. WELBURN PEACH
Welburn Franklin Peach, 93, of 116 Eminence Avenue, died Saturday, June 5, 1999 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born January 26, 1906 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late George and Annie Lee Harley Peach and the widower of Bertha Medley Peach. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Anderson County, and a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors include: his wife, Virginia Peach; two daughters, Dorothy Sanders and Rose Ann Dixon, all of Harrodsburg; one brother, Charles Peach, Louisville; several step children; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 8, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with John Cato and officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. OPAL MONTGOMERY
Opal Montgomery, 90, of 200 Rose Lane, died Sunday, June 6, 1999 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born July 14, 1908 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Maude Darland Graves. She was the widow of Scott Coplin Montgomery Sr. She was a retired teacher from the Mercer County School System, a member of the Mercer Retired Teachers Association, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, and a member of Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church. Survivors include: two sons, Donald D. (Maggie) Montgomery, Farmers Branch, TX, Billy G. (Alice) Montgomery, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Sue Baker and Pearl Sexton, both of Harrodsburg; a daughter-in-law, Wondola Montgomery, Lexington; 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, six step grandchildren, 13 step great grandchildren, and six step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Scott Montgomery, Jr. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 10, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Arnold Moon and Larry Redding officiating. Born January 29, 1911 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Campbell and Mattie Randolph Vanarsdall. He was a farmer and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. Survivors include: one brother, Raymond Vanarsdall, Harrodsburg; one sister, Mrs. Elsie Pinkston, Harrodsburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Royalty Vanarsdall, and one sister, Ethel Peavler. Funeral services were Wednesday, June 9, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Born August 6, 1969 in Danville, she was the daughter of Alan Lee Robins, Burgin, and Beverly Gordon Presley, Danville. She was a former Bay West and Kroger employee, and was a member of the Mt. Freedom Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include: her step mother, Tammy Robins, Harrodsburg; her step father, Rick Presley, Danville; two sons, Robert Thomas Dean, IV, and Caleb Leroy Alan Mills, both of Danville; one sister, Alison Starr Robins, Harrodsburg; maternal grandmother, Anna Bell Gordon, Danville, paternal grandmother, Ruth Robins, Burgin; step grandmother, Mae Presley, Parksville; one step sister, Cari Simpson, Harrodsburg; three step brothers, Wesley Simpson, Harrodsburg, Matthew Presley, Indiana, and Joshua Presley, Hustonville. She was preceded in death by a fiance, Chris Mills. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 11, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Keith Willoughby officiating. JEANNE ROYALTY
Jeanne Brady Royalty, 79, of Lexington, widow of Dr. Dale Maurice Royalty, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999 at Lexington Country Place. Born in Indianapolis, IN, she was the daughter of the late Corrine Alderson and Michael Thomas Brady. She had attended Ward-Belmont College in Nashville, and had been active in community volunteer efforts. For many years she was involved with the Baby Milk Fund, had been a volunteer at Eastern State Hospital, and was a member of the Lexington Woman s Club. Survivors include: two sons, John C. "Jack" (Judi) Royalty, Versailles, and Dale M. (Deborah) Royalty, Johnson City, TN; a sister-in-law, Betsy Brady, Louisville; four grandchildren. Graveside services were held Saturday, June 12, at the Hillcrest Memorial Park, Lexington, with Dr. Harold Henson officiating. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Kevin Pethick, Adam Mayer and D. Mayer. THELMA HOPPER
Thelma Ruby Hopper, 84, of Main Street, Willisburg, died Thursday, June 10, 1999 at the Norton Spring View Hospital in Lebanon. Born in Washington County, July 21, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Fannie Warner Ruby. She was a 1932 graduate of Mackville High School and also attended the Bowling Green Business College. She was a former substitute teacher at Willisburg School and also served as a school bus driver at Willisburg. She was a member of the Willisburg Baptist Church. Survivors include: one daughter, Sandra Hopper Welsch, Alexandria, VA; one grandson, Brand Edward Welch, Lexingotn; and one nephew, Allen Ruby, Willisburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, William O. Hopper, on June 4, 1991, one sister, Zula Rowland and two brothers, Birchell Ruby and Marshall Ruby. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 12, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Rev. J. W. Hatfield, officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gardner Jenkins, R. C. Denny Shewmaker, 63, of Mackville, died Sunday, June 13, 1999 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. A native of Washington County, he was born January 18, 1936 to Leon and the late Hallie Bottom Shewmaker. He was a member of the Mackville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a member of the Magnolia Masonic Lodge #201 F&AM at Mackville. He was a 1954 graduate of Mackville High School and a longtime partner in the C&D General Store in Mackville. He was also a farmer. Survivors include: his wife, Mayola Kidwell Shewmaker, one son, Jeff (Lisa) Shewmaker, Mackville; one daughter, Denise (Bob Mel) Spalding, Paris, his father, Leon Shewmaker, Mackville, one brother, Gerald Shewmaker, Mackville; four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 16, at the Mackville Baptist Church with Rev. David Gifford and Rev. Mark Atherton officiating. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery. Anna Mae Carter Lester, 92, of 446 Mooreland Ave. died Friday, June 18, 1999 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born April 3, 1907 in Mercer County she was the daughter of the late E. G. and Maggie Green Carter. She was a former employee of Cricketeer and a member of the Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church. Survivors include: five daughters, Eulaine Carey, Edith Lester, Ethel Gray and Georgia Cocanougher, all of Harrodsburg, and Evelyn Coyle, Perryville; 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bishop Carter, Simon Carter and John Carter, and one granddaughter, Lou Cocanougher. Funeral services were Sunday, June 20, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Arnold Moon and Rev. Larry Redding officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. William "Bill" Holman, 73, of Parksville, died Saturday, June 19, 1999 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born April 28, 1926 in Ohio, he was the son of the late Russell and Maude Lee Reynolds Holman. He was a retired auto mechanic, had worked at Mattingly-Rapier in Danville, and had coached Babe Ruth baseball. He was an army veteran of World War II and a member of the Mitchellsburg Church of God. Survivors include: his wife, Jean Baker Holman; two daughters, Belinda Holman and Carolyn Holman Quinn, all of Parksville; and one son, Terry Holman, Lancaster; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held Monday, June 21, at the Mitchellsburg Church of God with Rev. Larry Moore and Rev. Marlin Miller officiating. Burial was in the Parksville Cemetery. Clarence Click, 84, of Virginia Avenue, Springfield, died Wednesday, June 16, 1999 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington. Born October 23, 1914, he was the son of the late William L. and Martha A. Claunch Click. He was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a former Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Springfield Masonic Lodge #50 F&AM and the Guiding Star Chapter #450, Order of the Eastern Star. He was the first director to serve the Springfield Housing Authority and was a former partner in the Springfield Auto Parts. He was a veteran of World War II and a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors include: his wife, Hazel Bottom Click, whom he married August 3, 1932, Springfield; one daughter, Mrs. Billy (Jean) Waters, Springfield; two sisters, Bernice Huffman, Harrodsburg, and Lillie B. Tyler of Kokomo, IN; one sister-in-law, Vivian Clark, Harrodsburg; two grandchildren and two step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Garnice William Click on December 3, 1934 and a brother, W. J. Click on April 17, 1997. Funeral services were Friday, June 18, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home in Springfield, with Rev. Lonnie Bradley officiating. Burial was in Cemetery Hill, Springfield. Pallbearers were Mike Simpson, Ken Brock, Donnie Huffman, Ronnie Click, Billy Tyler and Bill Bottom. Masonic services were held Thursday evening with Billy Riggs delivering the eulogy.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Winnie and Tressie Darland and John and Beulah Coker. JEREL GOODLETT
Jerel Wayne Goodlett, 48, of 1534 Puckett Road, Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday, June 16, 1999 at Bluegrass Regional Medical Center in Frankfort, from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born in Mercer County, he was the son of Joseph William "Joe" and Elizabeth Elliott Goodlett, Lawrenceburg; He was a 25 year employee of Allied Signal in Frankfort, a member of Alton Baptist Church and an avid collector of marbles and arrow heads. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: one son, Jeffrey Goodlett, Lawrenceburg; a step daughter, Lacricia Brewer, Danville; a sister, Mrs. Tommy (Jolene) Greenwell, Frankfort; two granddaughters: two step grandsons. Funeral services were held Friday, June 18, at the Alton Baptist Church with Bro. Tyre Denney and Bro. John Charles officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Frankfort. Pallbearers were Wendell Carpenter, Delbert Hymer, Kevin Satterly, Gary Colley, Norm Thompson, Jerry Marshall, Mike Howard, Wayne Scrogum and John Tindell. Honorary bearers were friends and Allied Signal co-workers.
