LOLA ALLENDER

Lola Allender, 84, of Shelbyville, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Monday, January 3, 2000 at the Masonic Home in Shelbyville.

Born October 28, 1915 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lanta Sims Reed and was the widow of John Allender.

She was a retired seamstress for Cricketeer Manufacturing Company and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist church and the Order of the Eastern Star #309.

Survivors include: two sisters, Hallie Greene and Lillie Ross, both of Harrodsburg; one brother, Buell Reed, Junction city; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Buddy R. and Robert S. Clark, and one brother, James R. Reed.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 8, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews, J. B. Reed, Clarence A. Greene, Maurice and Lonnie Wayne Reed, John R. and Douglas Craig Clark.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church or the Masonic Home in Shelbyville.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

THOMAS BERRY

Thomas "Tom" G. Berry, 77, Morganfield, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000 at 10:25 a.m at his residence of an apparent heart attack.

He was the son of the late Douglas and Rose M. Berry. He was the husband of Betty Berry for 41 years. He also was the widower of Evelyn Christine Berry, who died in 1958.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: six daughters, Ellen Brown of Danville and formerly of Harrodsburg, Pam Newman of Henderson, Beth Wells of Cambridge, WI, Amy Berry of Madison, WI, Margaret Gatten of Sturgis and Gina Berry of Murray; three sons, Patrick Berry of Sturgis, Thomas A. Berry and Michael Berry of Morganfield; three sisters, Christine Hammonds of Boling Brook, IL, Katherine Spicer of Saginaw, MI, and Jean Gurkowski of Lyons, IL; three brothers, Raymond Berry of Shepardsville, Clarence "Ed" Berry of Westmont, IL and William Berry Franklin, of Park, IL; 14 grandchildren, including Aaron Brown of Danville and formerly of Harrodsburg, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers James A. and Thurman L. Berry, two sisters, Pearl Berry and Lillie Rose Berry.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Fr. Carl McCarthy will officiate and burial will be in the Odd Fellow Cemektery.

HARRY COOKE

Harry William Cooke, 84, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, January 1, 2000 at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

He was born December 19, 1915 in Springfield.

Survivors include: one son, William Edwards (Elizabeth Evans) Cooke, Georgetown, and one granddaughter, Rachel Heather Shircliff, San Francisco, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loulie Vivion Cooke, and one brother and sister-in-law, Harold A. and Elsie Menaugh Cooke.

He served as an Army Air Corps navigator in World War II and retired as a Colonel in the Air Force Reserve after being assigned to the U. S. Air Force Academy as Liaison Officer and Admission Counselor for 12 years.

As a member of the Jaycees, he served as the first president of the Harrodsburg Chapter in 1946-47, Kentucky president in 1949, and director of the U. S. Jaycees in 1949-50.

He was director of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce from 1949 through 1953 and was selected as one of Kentucky's Three Outstanding Young Men in 1950. He was Kentucky chairman of the March of Dimes in 1951-52, president of the Bluegrass Sigma Chi Alumni Association, and commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

After a career in sales, he served simultaneously 1965-70 as the Director of Public Relations for the Association of American Schools in Mexico and as consultant for the U. S. Department of State Office of Overseas School.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 3, at Spring Hill Cemetery. Rev. David Hartman officiated.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Tzhomson-Hood Veterans Center Special Activities Fund, 100 Veterans Dr., Wilmore, KY 40390.

McClellan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

There was no visitation.

ANDY DAUGHERTY

William Andrew "Andy" Daugherty, 26, of Campbellsville, who died Dec. 26, 1999 was a native of Mercer County. Information provided by Gash Memorial Chapel was incorrect.

CATHERINE DRISCOLL

Jeff Deaton was an honorary pallbearer for Catherine Phillips Driscoll, 82, of Salvisa, who died Dec. 24, 1999.

ETHEL FOWLER

Ethel Viola Fowler, 81, of 124 Maple Street, Burgin, died Thursday, December 30, 1999 at her residence.

Born November 15, 1918 in Salvisa, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Ford and Sallie Jane Coslow Sharp.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Salvisa Methodist Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Earl Fowler, Burgin; one daughter, Shirley Middleton; Bradfordsville; two grandchildren, Patricia Darland, Harrodsburg, and Stephen Darland, Bradfordsville; one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 2, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Harley officiating. Burial was in the Willisburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Roger Middleton, Alan Darland, Bill Bottom, Timmy Bottom, William Matherly and James Burden.

RAMON HAWTHORNE

Ramon Lyons Hawthorne, 75, of 335 Pleasant Hill Drive, Burgin, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 17, 1924 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Roy Bradley and Edna Goff Hawthorne.

He was a retired Assistant Superintendent Dispatcher at Dix Dam, a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #777 F&AM, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, the Oleika Shrine Temple.

He was a member of the Burgin Baptist Church where he was former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, a past member of the Burgin Lions Club, and was the last Police Judge in Burgin; an office he held for twenty years.

Survivors include: his wife, Lucille Denny Hawthorne, Burgin; one daughter, Rhonda Sims, Carrollton; two grandsons, Kevin Sims, Lexington, IN and Kurt Sims of Carrollton; one great granddaughter, Makayla Sims.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Heard officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Sims, Delbert Ball, Bill Bradshaw, Fred Vanarsdall, Jack Coleman, Gene Robinson, Pat Lear and Wendell Gooch.

ELOISE HOUSER

Eloise Houser, 82, of 1672 Perryville Road, died Sunday, January 2, 2000 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 8, 1917 in Coshocton, OH, she was the daughter of the late Fred J. and Grace McClain Huber.

She was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Pamela Houser, Harrodsburg. She was preceded in death by a brother, Fredrick Huber, and a sister, Katherine Bates.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Larry Camic officiating. A committal service and burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan 7i. At the South Lawn Cemetery, Coshocton, OH.

RUTH BARKER LAMBERT

Ruth Barker Lambert, 70, formerly of 594 Bellows Mill Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000 at the Hasrrodsburg Health Care Center.'

Born December 11, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Everette and Nettie Lanham Barker and the widow of Earl L. Lambert. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two sisters and three brothers.

She was a non-denominational Christian.

Survivors include a brother, Jesse Barker of Richmond and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. Glenn Gasser and Greg Harger will officiate and burial will be in the Lancaster Cemetery in Lancaster.

Pallbearers will be Jack and Tom Taylor, Roger King, Ron McMaine , Chris Stines and Roger Quinn.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, and after 7i a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

EMMA LYNN

Emma Katherine Lynn, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, two hours after birth. She was the daughter of Logan and Lynne Warner of 2487 Lexington Road.

In addition to her parents, survivors include: a brother, Logan Adams Lynn II of Harrodsburg; maternal grandparents, J. C. and Nancy Warner of Harrodsburg; paternal grandparents, Margaret Chatham Lynn of Harrodsburg and the late Elmer Lee Lynn of Harrodsburg, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and after 7 a.m. Saturday.

JOHN NEVIUS

John C. (Jay) Nevius, 84, formerly of Cane Run Street, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999 at Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born October 4, 1915 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late William and Nellie Fuell Nevius.

He was a farmer, construction worker, and retired form Mercer Stone.

He was a member of Joseph Chapel Methodist Church.

Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, Ophelia D. Preston Nevius, Harrodsburg; two sons, George William (Billy) Nevius and Bobby Stuart Nevius, both of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Mrs. Jaunita Catherine Ball, Harrodsburg; one nephew, Davis Nevius, (whom he and his wife reared); one brother, Floyd (Todd) Nevius, Danville; one half brother, Ronnie Nevius, Danville; two sisters, Edna Goins and Lorene Black, Danville; three half sister, Brenda Bottoms and Renee Hammons, Danville; Donnie Springer of Colorado; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four step grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 31, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. John Cato and Bro. Sam Stow officiating. David Michael Ball gave the eulogy. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Darrell Preston, Randy Preston, Raymond Allen Preston, Gary Preston, Danny Preston, Cliff Black, and Kenny Preston. Honorary bearers were David and Jeaneane Ball, Donna and Steve Anderson, Chuck and Christine Nevius, Chad and Shannon Nevius, Bryan and Chrystal Nevius, Dereck Ball, Jay Anderson, Justin Ball, Ami Anderson, and Ashlyn Nevius.

Honorary bearers were: Brady Nevius, Lee and Vinny Magliulo, Vincent Magliulo and Ellen Magliulo.

Memorial contributions can be made to Joseph Chapel Methodist Church.

BARBARA McCRYSTAL

Barbara McCrystal, 69, of Colorado Springs area, wife of Arnold McCrystal, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999 in Colorado Springs.

She was a native of Casey County.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. She was a resident of Harrodsburg for 18 years and a member of the Harrodsburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: five sons, Steven McCrystal, Ronald McCrystal, Larry McCrystal, Michael McCrystal and Jeffery McCrystal; two daughters, Karen Abrens and Sauda Huesuicy; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Carl King and Ted King.

A memorial mass was held Monday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Holy Family Catholic Church.

Swan Law Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
