Jesse Donald Grubbs, 65, Cypress Hills Apartments, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003.
Born February 18, 1938 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Jesse Gobel and Bertha Ellen Goodpaster Grubbs.
He was a retired brick mason and a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: two sons, Donald Wayne Grubbs, Salvisa, and James Edward Grubbs, Harrodsburg; five daughters, Pamela Sue (Gary) Hatter, Mercer County, Anita Carol (Danny) Montgomery, and Cathy Marie Grubbs, both of Danville, Linda May (Mohammad) Hasan-Hamad, Canton, GA, Dianna Ellen McPherson, Harrodsburg; two brothers, Harold Lee (Ora) Grubbs, Washington County, and Ronald E. Grubbs, Shepherdsville; two sisters, Barbara (Tom) Ross, Burgin, and Alice (Randall) Darland, Harrodsburg; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother, David L. Grubbs; and five sisters, Glenda F. Grubbs, Evelyn Russell, Marjorie Williams, Laura Ellen Murphy and Janet K. Coker.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 28, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Mark Williams officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Daniel Montgomery, Nick Burger, Jesse Wayne Grubbs, Clayton McPherson, Aaron Houp, Jody S. Grubbs, Shea Ford and Christopher Harlan. Honorary bearers were granddaughters.

JANE HOPPIN
Jane M. Hoppin, 81, of 567 East Lexington Street, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born July 11, 1921 in Versailles, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Rebecca Crutcher Montague. She was the widow of Frank Hoppin.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.
She was a longtime member of the Friendship Circle, Newcomers Homemaker Club and volunteered for numerous organizations.
Survivors include: one son, Jim (Teresa) Hoppin, Midway; one daughter, Jane (Jerry) Bennett, Lawrenceburg; one brothers, Howard Montague, Versailles; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Newland Montague, and a sister, Willie Mae Stephenson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 4, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Don Chase officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the chapel from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Christian Church or to one’s favorite charity.
STEVEN RICHARDSON
Steven Haston Richardson, 34, of 544 North College Street, died Sunday June 29, 2003 at Mt. Olivet.
Born July 23, 1968 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Charles and Bonnie Richardson/Tate Richardson.
He was a construction worker.
Survivors include: four sons, Bruce Devine, Chris Devine and Jimmy Richardson, all of Harrodsburg, and Robert Gregory, Burgin; two brothers, Herbie Richardson, Mt. Olivet, and Luke Richardson, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Martha Richardson, Lexington, and Mary Sanford, Harrodsburg; and one step grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at Spring Hill Cemetery with Danny Broce officiating.
Ransdell Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
FRANCIS ALLEN
Francis Marie Allen, 68, of Darst Street, Stanford, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.
Born February 23, 1935 in Rockcastle County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur C. Allen and Smarie Ann Kidd.
She was a homemaker and a member of Jesus Church House of Prayer.
Survivors include: two sons, Charles Reagan of Harrodsburg and Larry Allen Sr. of Stanford; five brothers, Joe and Raymond Kidd, both of Stanford, James Kidd of Waynesburg, Sherman Jones of La Grange and Bobby Jones of Georgetown; four sisters, Rosie Swope of Lancaster, Dalphine Cherry of Charlestown, Ind., Donna Blanton of Crab Orchard, and Faye Kidd of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
Services were conducted Friday, July 4, at Fox Funeral Home, Stanford, by Donnie Irvin. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rodney, Anthony and Patrick Reagan, Joey and Mike Cherry, and Jesse Denney. Honorary pallbearers were Scottie Kidd, Jeffrey Blanton, Jimmy Barker Jr., Raymond Garris, James Barnett and Jeremy Hood.
WILLIAM BAILEY
William Harold Bailey, age 78, 2086 New Dixville Road, died Saturday, July 5, 2003 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born December 15, 1924 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Oscar and Bonnie Gertrude Devine Bailey.
He was a retired farmer, a Mercer County magistrate for four terms, a bus driver for the Mercer County School System, and a former employee of the Kentucky State Highway Department.
He was a member of Benton Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Haddy Jane Bugg Bailey; two sons, John Charles Bailey and Danny Gerald Bugg; two sisters Viola Sims and Virginia Lay, all of Harrodsburg. He was preceded in death by a brother Henry Bailey.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 7, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Harley and Tim Gray officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Henry Calvin Gibson, Chuckie Bugg, Marshall Sims Jr., Robert Gilliland, Birdie Bugg and Tommy Vaught. Honorary bearers were Crystal Nevius, Bryan Nevius, Nicholas Craig, Bailey Nevius, John Paul Bailey, Amanda Bailey, Kaylie Hulbert and Terry Bugg.
MARTHA BOBLETT
Martha Helen Boblett, 55, of North College Street, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville.
Born October 4, 1947 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Bertha Sea Grubbs.
She was a former employee of Harrodsburg Health Care Center, enjoyed reading, and was a member of the United Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include: one son, Chad Boblett, a U. S. Marine stationed in Japan; two daughters, Linda (John) Hall and Cynthia Griffieth, both of Harrodsburg; two brothers, David Grubbs, Lexington, and Daniel Grubbs, Somerset; five sisters, Kathleen Grubbs Rucker, Lawrenceburg, Carolyn Grubbs Nethery, Louisville, Marcella Boblett, Lawrenceburg, Deborah Grubbs Richardson, Bardstown, and Mary Riley, Springfield; seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 5, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Kevin Patrick officiating. Burial was in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Anderson County.
Pallbearers were Jo Cob Turner, Andrew Griffieth, Michael Salvia, Kenneth Black, Sammy Riley and Billy Dye.
ERNEST CARSS
Ernest Lawrence Carss, 60, of McCrosky Pike, formerly of Bellingham, MA and Brampton, Ontario, Canada, died Saturday, July 5, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born April 12, 1943 in Ottawa, Canada, he was the son of the late Ernest V. and Evelyn Pitt Carss.
He was a self employed horse trainer, a member, director and judge of the American Hackney Society and a member of the United Professional Horseman Association.
He was a member of the Canadian Hackney Association, American Road Horse and Pony Association and a recognized judge for the U. S. Equestrian Federation.
Survivors include: his wife, Sandra Chamberlain Carss, Harrodsburg; four children, Shelley and Andrew Carss, both of Brampton, Ontario, and Rebecca and Dylan Carss, both of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Betty (Gary) Boxma, Ivy Lea, Ontario, Judy (George) Patterson, Ajax, Ontario, and Vivian (Syd) Carss-Smith, Pembroke, Ontario; two brothers, Robert (Norma) Carss, Edwards, Ontario, and Rodney (Lynn) Carss, Kanata, Ontario; and his first wife, Joan Carss of Brampton, Ontario.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 9, at the Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home, 701 North Main Street, Lawrenceburg, with Rev. Jimmy Owens officiating.

THOMAS DEDMAN, JR.
Thomas Curry "Bud" Dedman, Jr., age 87, 618 Beaumont Inn Drive, died Friday, July 4, 2003 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born December 12, 1915 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Thomas C. Dedman, Sr. and Pauline Goddard Dedman. He was the widower of Mary Elizabeth Ransdell Dedman.
He was a 1938 graduate of Centre College with a BA degree in English and a member of the Beta Theta Phi Fraternity and received the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2001. As a former Centre graduate and a parent of graduates, he claimed one of his greatest accomplishments was to have had four of his five children to graduate from Centre College and also a former and current Centre grandparent. Every year the 50th, 55th, and 60th Centre College class reunions were held at Beaumont Inn.
He also recently served as host for the vice presidential debate moderator Bernard Shaw. He was the owner, proprietor and president of Beaumont Inn Corporation.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Throughout his lifetime he worked to establish Beaumont Inn, which has been owned and operated by his family since 1919 and founded by his grandfather the late Glave Goddard, as Kentucky's most celebrated hospitality landmark and was the third generation in his family to run the Inn.
He and the Inn have been featured in several major hospitality publications, such as Duncan Hines' Adventures in Good Eating, Gourmet magazine, Bon Appetit magazine, Southern Living magazine, Life Magazine, Redbook Magazine, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Kentucky Advocate Magazine, and numerous other publications.
In 1979, he and his wife were honored at the Kentuckians Club in New York City with a traditional Kentucky dinner featuring Beaumont Inn recipes. KET and PBS did a feature on him promoting the history, production, and lore of Kentucky Country Hams.
He was the founder of Fort Harrod Drama Productions which is Kentucky's second longest running summer outdoor theater and was former president of Fort Harrod Productions for 12 years, a former board of directors member for the Kentucky State Chamber of Commerce, a former member of the board of directors for the Kentucky River Task Force, was named a Kentucky Colonel in 1963 and was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Harrodsburg.
Survivors include: three sons, Dr. Thomas P. (Debbe) Dedman, III, Louisville, Dr. Nick (Elaine) Dedman and Chuck (Helen) Dedman, both of Harrodsburg; one daughter Libby Dedman (Van) Young, Lexington; one sister Anne Dedman Cherry, Harrodsburg, twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anne Dedman Hunt.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 8, at the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church with Doug Slagle officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Scott Hunt, Jr., John Dedman, S. Dixon Dedman, Jake Heustis, Mark Peeler, Dave Monaco, Chris Watkins, and Anthony Pollio. Honorary bearers wereBob, Bill, Tom, Pete, and Johnny Baughman.
Memorials are suggested to the Anne Dedman Hunt Memorial Scholarship Fund, Ft. Harrod Drama Production, Inc., United Presbyterian Church Foundation or Heritage Hospice.

LEE GUTHRIE
Henry Lee Guthrie, Jr. 77, formerly of Danville and Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.
He was the owner of Guthrie Farm Service in Harrodsburg and a Navy veteran of WW II.
He was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Danville, graduated from Danville High School and the University of Kentucky. He retired from the Dept. of Agriculture State of Kentucky and was a Calibrator.
Survivors include: three sons, Tom Guthrie, Bradley S. Guthrie and Earl Scott Guthrie, all of Harrodsburg; one sister, Jean Guthrie Whanger of Danville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2003 at Stith Funeral Home, Danville.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Danville.
