Hestell Robinson, age 93, of 562 Aspen Hall Drive died Friday, August 29, 2003 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born March 26, 1910 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Ulysses and Bertha Carpenter Foster . She was the widow of Hobert Robinson.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Ann Robinson, Harrodsburg; two grandchildren Donna Robinson Holiday, Harrodsburg and Lee W. Robinson, Louisville. She was preceded in death by a son Don W. Robinson.
Graveside services were held Sunday, August 31, in Spring Hill Cemetery by Don Chase. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Harrodsburg Christian Church.
Pallbearers were Edwin Freeman, Marshall Freeman, Lafon Darland, Frank Trisler, Henry Anness, Todd Warner, Briscoe White, Robert “Rags” Gritton, and Steven Bailey. Honorary bearers were members of the Christian Workers Sunday School Class.
Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
BEATRICE STANFORTH
Beatrice Watts Bottom Stanforth, 87, died Friday, August 29, 2003 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born October 26, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Cordelia Cummins Watts. She was the widow of Taylor Bottom and John Stanforth.
She retired from Cricketeer, was a Kentucky Colonel and member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
She was an avid Kentucky Wildcat and Cincinnati Reds fan.
Survivors include: one son Gilbert Bruce (Irene) Bottom, Lexington; one step-son, Don Reid, Las Vegas, NV; one sister, Mrs. Gladys Yocum, Lawrenceburg; two grandchidlren; seven great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Bowen Bottom, four brothers, Elvin, Marvin, Stanley and Ernest Watts and a sister, Iris Lay.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, September 2, in Spring Hill Cemetery by Rev. David Collier and close friend, Marvin Robinson.
Pallbearers were Jeff Miller, Trippy Clark, Hughes Jones, Sammy Carr, Eddie Lay, and Bill Zopff.
Ransdell Funeral Chapel was ins charge of arrangements.
ORIN WELLS
Orin B. Wells, 83, of Texas, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at a Fort Worth Hospital.
He was born January 31, 1920 in Lexington. He was the widower of Mildred Marie Wells.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and had retired after 30 years with Shell Oil Company.
Survivors include: one son, Bruce Wells, Fort Worth, TX; one daughter, Lila (Rick) Guzman, Round Rock, TX; three sisters, Mary Alice Wheeler and JoAnn Miracle, both of KY, and Edna Wheeler, OH; three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 23, in Biggers Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Dido Cemetery.
JAMES WOODS
James Owen Woods, 83, of Lexington, formerly of Mercer County, died Saturday, August 16, 2003 at the home of his niece in Nicholasville.
Born December 19, 1919 in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Abe and Nannie Jane Brown Woods. He was the widower of Virgie May Blake Woods and Helen Frances Terry Woods.
He was a former mechanic for Clark and Hood Oldsmobile in Harrodsburg. He also served as a mechanic for Quantrell Cadillac and Pat Halloron Motor Company in Lexington and the Fox Creek RECC in Lawrenceburg. He was the owner of J and H Milling until the time of his death.
He was a member of the East End Church of Christ in Lexington.
Survivors include: one sister, Beatrice Reed Walters, Wilmore, and a step granddaughter, Rhonda May Carter Kane, Lawrenceburg. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Gertrude Shewmaker, Liberty Alcorn and Naomi Turpin, and six brothers, Arthur, Bennie Hugh, Sanford, Roy, Carl and Robert Woods, and stepdaughter Gladys Louise West Carter.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 20, at the Milward Funeral Home-Southland, Lexington, with Dale Robins and Joe Adams officiating. Burial was in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens in Jessamine County.
Pallbearers were Chris Stewart, Rick Mobley, Kenneth Miller, Bill Spears, Jim Spears and Glen Goldey. Honorary bearers were Roy Turner, Willie B. Horn, Billy Reed, Treffert Shewmaker, Walter (Bondy) Carter, Wendell Tincher, Joe Adams, Haldon Goodlett, Shirley Yeast and James Sizemore.
Memorial are suggested to the East End Church of Christ, 3055 Todds Road, Lexington, KY 40509; American Cancer Society, American Lung Association or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
STEVE BURTON
Steven Edward “Steve” Burton, 39, of Old Hustonville Road, Danville, died Sunday, September 7, 2003 at his residence.
Born November 13, 1963 in Danville, he was the son of Eddie Burton of Danville and Margaret Richardson Burton of Junction City.
He was a construction worker.
Survivors include: his wife, Tathy Sexton Burton, Burnsville, NC; one daughter, Katelyn Burton, Burnsville, NC; and one son, Christopher “Chris” Lee Burton, Danville.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 10, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville, with Rev. Bill Hall officiating. Burial was in the Goodwater Cemetery, Mt. Victory, KY.
Pallbearers were Barry Huggins, Bryan Cole, Gerald Howell, Gene Clark, John Lane and Tommy Littrell.
BRANDON GRUBBS
Brandon Lee Grubbs, 18, of Danville, died Saturday, September 6, 2003 in Garrard County.
Born October 19, 1984 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Tammy Cheatham Grubbs of Harrodsburg.
He was a drywaller, enjoyed music, fishing, and being with his friends. He had attended the Southside Christian Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother include: one brother Michael (Jerrilee Boyd) Grubbs of Harrodsburg; maternal grandparents Johnny and Judy Cox of Mercer County, and Virgil and Joann Cheatham, Jr., of New Paris, OH; maternal great-grandparents, James and Myrtle Lewis of Mercer County and Virgil and Kitty Cheatham Sr., of Lincoln County.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 10, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Grubbs, Jason Gabhart, Mario Buster, Sha Ford, Talon Hueston, and Jason Harmon.

FRED JOHNS
Fred Welch Johns, 83, of Beaumont Avenue, formerly of Nicholasville, died Monday, September 8, 2003 at the Blue Grass Community Hospital in Versailles.
Born September 4, 1920 in Jessamine County, he was the son of the late Fred, Sr. and Carrie Jane Cobb Johns.
He retired from the home improvement industry having been the owner of Peerless Aluminum and a master carpenter.
He attended the Opera House Tabernacle and loved playing the harmonica and singing.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: his wife, Ruth S. Reynolds Johns, Harrodsburg; four daughters, Karen Johns Lee, Nicholasville; Catherine “Kitty” Thompson, Harrodsburg; Eva Faye (Dana) Marsee, Nicholasville; Fredda Shannon (Ronald) Jacobs, Harrodsburg; one son, Lindsay Barton (Gina) Johns, Nicholasville; 11 grandchildren, Shawn Lester, Joseph Marsee, Jaisa Miracle, Erinn Thompson, Audrey Peel, Will Daugherty, Adam Watts, Mathew Lee, Christopher Lee, Lindsay Johns and Whitney Johns; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Shannon Johns and three brothers, Jean C. Johns, Evanda Clay “Sharkey” Johns, and Eldon Blackstone Johns.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 11, at Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home, Nicholasville, with Rev. Michael Conover officiating. Burial will be in Cobb Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary bearers will be Mike Johns, David Johns, Connie Johns, Malcom Miracle, Jerome Peel and Thad Lester.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10 and on Thursday, after 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
HELEN McDONLEY
Helen McDonley, 71, formerly of North 39th Street, Louisville, died Thursday, September 4, 2003 at the home of her son in Salem, IN.
Born August 23, 1932 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Jane Carey Webb. She was the widower of Kenneth McDonley.
She was a member of the Shawnee VFW Post 3204 Ladies Auxiliary and a former member of Shawnee Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: a daughter, Gloria McDonley Pogue, Oklahoma City, OK; one son, David McDonley, Salem, IN; a son-in-law, Bill Pogue and daughter-in-law Linda McDonley; two brothers, Joe Webb and June Webb; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Webb and Ann Webb; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Webb, and a sister, Betty Webb Darland.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 8, at J. B. Ratterman and Sons, 2114 West Market Street, Louisville. Burial was in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville.

MARGARET PENTZ
Margaret Moore Pentz, 82, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL died Thursday, September 4, 2003 at her residence.
Born September 23, 1920 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Cleveland and Edith Moore Threlkeld. She was the widow of Clyde A. Pentz.
She was reared at her parents' home on the Warwick Road and graduated from Harrodsburg High School in 1938. Following graduation from Berea College she moved to South Charleston, WV, and was employed by Union Carbide Corp. Upon retirement she and her husband moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1974.
Survivors include: two sons, Clyde A. Pentz, Jr. of Laguna Beach, CA, and David M. Pentz of Charleston, WV; one daughter, Suzanne Pentz of Philadelphia, PA; one sister, Jane T. Richmond, Richmond, KY, and one brother, Gayle W. Threlkeld, Birmingham, AL. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lt. Col. Robert F. Moore.
A memorial service was held at the First Presbyterian Church of Ft. Lauderdale, on Tuesday, September 9.
FIELD REED Jr.
Field M. Reed Jr., 83, of Louisville, died Thursday, August 28, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Louisville.
Born in Richmond, IN, he was the son of the late Field M. Reed Sr. and Merrtie Mae Woodard and was raised in Harrodsburg.
He was a retired assistant superintendent for International Harvester, where he worked for 38 years.
He was an army veteran of World War II, serving in the 192nd Tank Battalion, a former POW and a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion #201, VFW and the International Harvester Retiree Club.
Survivors include: two daughters, Anita Landers and Susan Jordan; one son, Thomas (Sue) Reed; one stepson, Mark McDonald; one sister, Harriette Ann Butler; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service was held on Tuesday, September 2, at Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
Memorial gifts may go to Hospice of Louisville.
