Mercer County Judge Executive Charles Harrison McGinnis, 59, 137 New Dixville Road, died Saturday, September 20, 2003 at his residence.
Born October 24, 1943 in Mercer County, he was the son of Pauline Judd McGinnis, Harrodsburg, and the late Daniel Harrison McGinnis.
Prior to being elected as Mercer County Judge Executive he was a field representative for Dairyman, Inc., and was a licensed Kentucky auctioneer.
He was a former member of the Kentucky National Guard, member of the board for the Bluegrass Area Development, having served as chairman of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Advisory Committee and the Tourism, Historic, Preservation and Recreation Committee.
He served on the Mercer County Health Board, Extension Board, Senior Citizens Board and Anderson-Dean Community Park Board.
He was also a member of the Kentucky County Judge’s Association, served on the Mercer County Planning and Zoning Board and was a member of the Bethel Cumberland #1 Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Linda Mitchell McGinnis, Harrodsburg; two sons, Troy (Kelly) Harrison McGinnis and Eric Allen (Meghan) McGinnis, both of Harrodsburg; a step-son John Christopher (Angela) Lewis; a step-daughter Lydia Carroll (Matthew) Magee, both of Myrtle Beach, SC; one sister, Elizabeth (Robert) VanArsdall, Burgin; one grandchild, Charles Landon McGinnis, Harrodsburg; one step-grandchild, Grace Carpenter Lewis, Myrtle Beach.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 23, at the Harrodsburg Christian Church by Bro. James Byrd and Alma Catlett. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jesse “Butch” Hood, Bruce Springate, Ronnie Young, Harold Lester, Billy Humphrey, Bill Wickliffe, Jack Pumphrey and Gene Lawson. Honorary bearers were members of the Fiscal Court and staff, County Attorney and the Kentucky County Judges Association Members.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Program or the Cumberland #1 Presbyterian Church.
MAUDE MIKUS
Maude Evelyn Mikus, 96, of Quitman, GA, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, September 21, 2003 at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman.
Born August 31, 1907, she was the daughter of the late John and Aurora Peavler Harlow. She was the widow of Hobert Browning and Henry Mikus.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: two daughters, Virginia Doler and Ruth Goldstein, both of GA; and one half-brother, Delbert “Peanut” Harlow, Salvisa.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25, in Burgin Memorial Gardens by Rev. Mike Hamby.
There will be no visitation.
Ransdell Funeral Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.
JAMES O’BANION
James Vernon O’Banion, 90, of Fairview Drive, Campbellsville, died Saturday, September 20, 2003 in Campbellsville.
Born July 26, 1913 in Green County, he was the son of the late Eldridge B. and Clara Esther Sullivan O’Banion.
He had professed faith in Christ and was a retired farmer and salesman.
Survivors include: his wife, Jennette O’Banion, Campbellsville; two sons, David G. (Charlotte) O’Banion, Campbellsville, and James Douglas (Leona Gay) O’Banion, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Bill O’Banion, and three sisters, Elizabeth Allen, Ruth O’Banion, and one sister in infancy.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 23, at the Parrott and Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville, with Rev. Paul J. Dicken, Rev. Earl Pike and Rev. Danny Pace officiating. Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Marshall Caulk, David Gabehart, Jimmy Gabehart, Bob Miskell, Donald O’Banion, Ronnie O’Banion and Destin Smith. Honorary bearers were nieces and nephews.
The family requests expressions of sympathy be donations to Gideons Memorial Bible Plan.
EVANN WHITE
Evann White, 23, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, September 19, 2003 in Marion County.
Born June 14, 1980, in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Robert C. and Melva Peavler White of Harrodsburg.
He was an employee of White's Fencing, a member of Bohon Road Baptist Church where he had recently become a minister. He was a Demolition Derby winner at the Mercer County Fair. He enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, and playing Rook.
Survivors include his wife, Myranda K. Lester White; two sons, Logan White and Devann C. White; one daughter, Kayetlyn Marie White; one brother, Adam White; four sisters, Amy White, Brooke White, Rebecca White and Margaret Ann White, all of Harrodsburg; grandparents, Gerald and Mary Will Peavler of Springfield and Cash and Irene White of Harrodsburg. He was preceded in death by a sister, Robin Michelle White.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 23, at Bohon Road Baptist Church with Ken Calia officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Johnson, Scottie Phillips, Adam White, John David Pittman and Fidel Garldo. Honorary bearers were Blair Pittman, Jered Baker, Jimmy Cash White and Bradley Smith.

EVANN WHITE
Mercer Man Dies In Farm Accident In Marion County
Evann White, 23, of Perryville Street was fatally injured in an accident Friday in Marion County.
Marion County Coroner J. R. Moraja said White died from internal chest injuries caused by compression when he became caught between the bucket and cab of a front-end loader.
White had been doing fencing work on a farm and was taking the loader back to a barn when the accident happened. “It happened when he was trying to open a gate or after he opened the gate and got back on the loader -- we aren’t sure exactly how it happened,” the coroner said.
White’s uncle and two other people working on the farm were about 100 yards away when the accident occurred, Moraja said.
White was the son of Robert C. and Melva Peavler White of Harrodsburg and was an employee of White’s Fencing. He was also a minister with the Bohon Road Baptist Church.
ZELLA DIVINE
Zella Omer Best Divine, 94, of Perryville, died Thursday, September 25, 2003 at her residence.
Born August 4, 1909 in Breckinridge County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. William T. and Virgie Sparrow Best. She was the widow of Ted Divine.
She was a retired teacher with the Boyle and Mercer County School systems where she taught for 40 years. She was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky State Teachers School.
A member of the Antioch United Methodist Church, she was the oldest living member.
Survivors include: one son, Teddy Lynn Divine, Harrodsburg; two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 29, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville with Rev. Brian Ebell officiating. Burial was in the Carpenters Cemetery, Mercer County.
Pallbearers were Jerry Brummett, Charles Holderman, Jackie Key, Rollie Von Linger, Alan Edwards and Bill Tolliver.

EDWIN ELLIOTT
Edwin T. Elliott, 87, 111 Ott Elliott Lane, died Friday, September 26, 2003 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born July 23, 1916 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Price and Mary Catherine Wren Elliott.
He was a retired army Lt. Colonel having served a total of 28 years, including serving during WW II and the Korean War. He was a retired Harrodsburg postmaster, a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church and the Harrodsburg Baptist Foundation.
He was also a member of the Lions Club, VFW, American Legion, Mercer Masonic Lodge 777 F&AM, Olieka Shrine Temple, and past president of the Kentucky Postmasters Association.
Survivors include: his wife, Leona Devine Elliott, Harrodsburg; two sons, Don Elliott, Harrodsburg, and Ott Elliott, Lawrenceburg; one sister, Eunice Tyler, Danville; two grandchildren, Ashley Cosby and Alex Elliott; and one great-grandchild, Cory Cosby. He was preceded in death by one son, Edwin T. Elliott, Jr., four brothers, James, Ralph, J. W. and Virgil Elliott, and one sister, Genevieve McCandless.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 29, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rick Snyder and Eddie Russell officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with full military rites.
Pallbearers were Virgil Elliott, Jr., Calvin Wiley, Bob Trisler, Ed Berg, Tom Matney and Taylor Elliott. Honorary bearers were Osby Jones and current and former members of the Harrodsburg Lions Club.

VERLA GARNER
Verla M. Roberts Garner, 87, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Friday, September 26, 2003 at the Carondelet Health Network Hospice in Tucson.
Born October 11, 1915 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Georgia Ann Adams Roberts. She was the widow of Charles R. Garner.
She was an assembly line worker for Douglas Aircraft and a member of the AJO Baptist Church in Tucson.
Survivors include: two sons, Raymond and Fred Garner, both of Tucson; two daughters, Margaret Smith and Ruby Howard, both of Salvisa; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles E. Roberts, and a sister, Estelle Naylor.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 3, at the Fox Funeral Home in Stanford with Bro. Gordon Tilley officiating. Burial will be in the Crab Orchard Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, John Howard, Jimmy Howard, Freddie Garner, Jim Garner, William Garner and Will Hisoire.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
DORA LOWE
Dora M. Lowe, 73, 467 Cardwell Avenue, died Friday, September 26, 2003 at the Johnson-Mathers Nursing Home in Carlisle.
Born June 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Finis J. and Cora Gritton Sims.
She was a former sales clerk at J. J. Newberry’s and The Ben Franklin Store and was a member of Southside Christian Church.
Survivors include: one son, Kevin Lowe, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Glenna (Dennis) Norton, Carlisle; two sisters, Laura Sims Wright, Mercer County and Mary Sims Easterling, Middletown, OH; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Hassell B., Cecil J., Clyde, and Everett Sims, and a sister Eda Mae Sims.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 29 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Elwood Norton and John David Lane. Burial was in the Cornishville Christian Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kevin Lowe, Clyde Sims, Jr., Danny Satterly, Troy Gowins, Craig Carol, Ralph K. Easterling, Larry Camic and Homer J. Easterling.
