David Harold Dearinger, 78, of Fairview Court, died Saturday, November 22, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born November 5, 1925 in Salvisa, he was the son of the late David B. and Staddie Springate Dearinger.
He was a retired barber, a US Army veteran of World War II, a member of the VFW and the American Legion, a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, and enjoyed fishing and was an award winning embroider.
Survivors include: his wife, Wanda Jean Carr Dearinger, Harrodsburg; three daughters, Margaret Ann Dearinger and Patricia Sue Rawlings, both Harrodsburg, and Staddie McGuire, Berea; one brother, James V. Dearinger, Danville; a step-son, Tony Sexton, Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 25 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Rev. Richard Easterling, Dr. Robert Defoor and Rick Snyder. Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery with military rites.
Pallbearers were David C. Dearinger, David T. Darland, Mike and Adam Turner, Brian Kendrick and Herman Ward. Honorary bearers were grandchildren, a son-in-law, and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church Activity Center or to the charity of one's choice.
BARBARA TAYLOR
Barbara Ellen Taylor, of Mercer County, died Saturday, November 22, 2003 at her residence.
Born June 30, 1946 in Snow Hill, MD she was the daughter of L. R. Weichmann and E. Faye Sines Weichmann and the late Ernest Taylor.
She was a retired Nurse for Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington.
Survivors, in addition to her mother and stepfather, include: one son Timothy Agner, Broward County, FL; one daughter, Sarah F. Agner, Mercer County; six brothers, Robert L. (M. Lucille) Taylor, Pensacola, FL, E. Dean (Mary) Taylor, Lincoln, DE, John M. (Patricia) Taylor, Summerdale, AL, Dale P. (Cindy) Taylor, Salisbury, MD, Bobby (Chong) Weichmann, Fayetteville, NC, Wayne (Julie) Weichmann, Pocomoke City, MD; two sisters, Jean "Tenny" (Harold) Miller, Salisbury, MD, Denise (Jack) Bowen, Snow Hill, MD; four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Monday, November 24, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dale Denton officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were C. H. Kirkpatrick, Phillip Kirkpatrick, Ricky Peyton, Chuck McKinney, Darron Vandivier, Donald Herring, Marty Lawson, Austin Norton and Darrel Dickerson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Salisbury, MD.

JOSEPH SHELTON
Joseph E. Shelton, Jr., 79, of Lexington, died Thursday, November 20, 2003 at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.
Born February 14, 1924 in Paris, TN, he was the son of the late Joseph and Carrie Tally Shelton, Sr.
He retired as a Major in the United States Air Force having served in WWII and Vietnam and retired from Square D in Lexington.
He was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and deacon.
Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Lane Sanders Shelton, Lexington; one son, Joseph E. (Ashley) Shelton, III, Brewster, MA; two daughters, Sharon Sue (John) Burgin, Raleigh, NC and Sonja Lane (Allen) Ostendorff, Greensboro, NC; one brother, Louis H. (Leta) Shelton, Bowling Green; one sister, Martha Mercer, Bowling Green: and four grandchildren.
Private graveside services were held Monday, November 24, in Spring Hill Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Holcomb officiating. Pallbearers were John Burgin, Joey Shelton, and Allen Ostendorff.

CHLOE BAKER
Chloe Meade Baker, age 92, Harrodsburg Health Care Center, died Monday, December 1, 2003 at the health care center.
Born April 20, 1911 in Magoffin County, she was the daughter of the late Wannie Clay and Mary Wheeler Meade. She was the widow of Winfield “Red” Baker.
She was former co-owner of Baker Hardware on Main Street, Harrodsburg, later known as Meade Hardware, and was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.
Survivors include: one sister, Nola Lemaster, Chillicothe, OH, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd, Rollie, Tollie and Albert "Al" Meade, and one sister, Eulah Meade.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 4, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Rev. Don Chase. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James D. Schauseil, Stephen Meade, Charles Meade, Wannie Fairchild, Darryl Lemaster, Larry Short and Alfred Russell.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.
DONALD ELLIOTT
Donald David Elliott, 50, 111 Ott Elliott Lane, , died Friday, November 28, 2003 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born May 26, 1953 in Lexington, he was a son of Leona Devine Elliott and the late Col. Edwin T. Elliott.
He was a self employed entrepreneur and a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: one brother, Ott (Sharon) Elliott, Lawrenceburg; two nieces, Ashley Cosby and Alex Elliott, Lawrenceburg, and special friends Jim Baum, Richmond, Harriet Ruby and Lisa Patterson, both of Harrodsburg. He was preceded in death by a brother Eddie Elliott.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 1, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Rick Snyder. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Noe, Virgil Elliott Jr., Jim Baum, Pat Tucci, Tom Culton, and Ott Elliott. Honorary bearers were Osby Jones, Harriet Ruby and Lisa Patterson.

NANNIE LAWSON
Nannie M. Lawson, 75, of Rockford, IL, died Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at her residence.
Born April 21, 1928 in Rose Hill, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Cordie Webb Tyler. She was the widower of Arvil Lawson.
She was an employee of Globe Imperial/Accurate Die Cast and attended Woodside General Baptist Church.
Survivors include: five sons, Glenn (Ellen) Lawson, Wayne (Tammy) Lawson, Dave (Cindy) Lawson, Gregory (Sheryl) Lawson and Michael Lawson, all of Rockford, IL; two daughters, Sheryl (Keith) Britton, Harrodsburg, and Sharon (Russell) Brown of Rockford, IL; three sisters, Jane Bursell, Rockford, IL, Lois Bradley and Betty (Archie) Britton, both of Harrodsburg; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 29, 2003 at Woodside General Baptist Church, 3022 18th Street, Rockford, IL with Rev. Steve Naff officiating. Burial was in New Milford Cemetery.

Earl Lowry, 79, Myles Road, Nicholasville, formerly of Mercer County, husband of Mable Lowry died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

IRENE VANDYKE
Irene S. VanDyke, Urbana, OH, died Sunday, November 30, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center.
Born February 27,1940 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Willie Frances Bess and Rev. Charles Henry Smith Sr.
She was a member of St. Paul AME Church in Urbana, OH and was a steward and past president of the usher board. She was also a member of the Gospel Angels of St. Paul.
She was founder and president of the Total Praise Mass Choir and sang with the AME Church 3rd District Choir.
She was employed by Wal-Mart of Urbana, OH, worked for the Champaign County Board of Elections and had worked for Drackett and DSC Logistics of Urbana, OH. She was also a past member of the United Way Board.
Survivors include: her husband, Michael VanDyke Sr.; one daughter, Frances VanDyke; one son, Michael (Marie) VanDyke Jr.; five brothers, Samual T. Bess Jr., Timothy D.(Ann) Bess, Charles Henry (Vera) Smith Jr., James Smith and Dale Smith; four sisters, Almetra Smith, Angela Smith, Debra Raines and Laura Sue (Cornell) Hall; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda and Firman Duplessis; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one brother, Byron Smith, and her father and mother-in-law, Ransom and Birdie VanDyke.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 6, at the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, Urbana with Rev. David Bethea officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 5.
DOROTHY VAN GILDER
Dorothy Ellen “Dot” Van Gilder, 76, of Danville, died Monday, December 1, 2003 at Charleston Health Care Center in Danville.
Born March 10, 1927 in Paris, IL she was the daughter of Jacob Englum and Grace Cleone Stubbs Englum.
She was a graduate of Paris High School, Paris, IL and a bookkeeper and clerk for the City of Danville.
Survivors include: her husband, Gerald Van Gilder, Danville, former employee of the Harrodsburg Herald; one son, Eric Van Gilder, FL; two daughters, Ellen (Wayne) Clements, Danville, and Jennifer (Barry) Moore, LaGrange; one brother, Dick (Lillian) Englum, Pistol River, OR.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 4, at the Stith Funeral Home, Danville, with Rev. Odis Clark officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Danville.
Pallbearers will be Pete Singleton, Bill Randolph, Jerry Dunn, George Cunningham, Dan Stroble, Sam Ponsoll, John Stigall and Gary Reynolds. Honorary bearer will be Roy Wolfe.
Visitation Wednesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted Military Rites for David Harold Dearinger at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery on November 25, 2003.
Those attending were Howard H. Howells, Preston Burgin, Tommy Denny, Marion Mershon, James Tewmey, DeWitt Sims, Lucian Landers, Tom Rappleye, Joe Harlow and Curtis Sherrow.
Zenah Teater III served as bugler.
Army representatives were SFC David McGuire and SFC Wayne Johnson.
FRANCIS ASBURY
Francis Louise Skinner Asbury, 85, of Cincinnati, OH, formerly of Lexington and Harrodsburg, died Friday, December 5, 2003 in Cincinnati.
Born in Grant County, she was a daughter of the late Taylor and Lulie Bell Green Skinner. She was the widow of H. T. "Ted" Asbury Jr.
She was a member of Woodland Christian Church and enjoyed antiques and cooking.
Survivors include: one daughter, Amy (Jack) Sebring, Cincinnati, OH; one son, Wick (Ann) Asbury, Lawrenceburg; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 8, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, by the Rev. Bill Kincaid. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Lexington.
