Nancy Ellen Coyle, 78, of Gravel Switch, died Saturday, December 6, 2003 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born January 25, 1925 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Cleveland and Monie Pine Shepperson Sinkhorn.
She was a retired employee of Jane and Linda Sportwear.
Survivors include: three daughters, Shirley Lindsey, Gravel Switch, Joyce Casey, Junction City, Kathy Fallon, Danville; three sons, Donnie Coyle, Parksville, Kenny Coyle, Harrodsburg, and Harold Coyle, Lancaster.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 9, at the Bosley Funeral Home, 246 S. Proctor Knott Avenue, Lebanon, with Rev. Larry Barker officiating. Burial was in Elder Cemetery.
WILLIAM DARLAND
William C. "Bill" Darland, 79, of North Main Street, died Sunday December 7, 2003 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born January 30, 1924 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William Lambert and Ivona Cornish Darland.
He was retired from IBM and was a former drywaller. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II, was a member of Carpenter’s Christian Church and the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and U.K. Basketball Fan.
Survivors include: his wife, Bessie Hall Darland, Harrodsburg; one son, William Carlton (Margaret Ann) Darland, Jr., Mercer County; one daughter, Kathy Jean (Donald R.) Meredith, Fairdale; one brother, Leroy Darland, Mercer County; two sisters Alma Black and Ima Jean VanArsdall, both of Mercer County; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 11, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Greg Warren officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ray Bell, Harold Darland, Vernon McGuire, Dick Tanhauser, Bob Brown, Larry Votaw, Eugene McGuire, Tony Pankey, and Hershel Votaw. Honorary bearers will be Kelly Rice, Arnold Merriman, and members of the Spirit Lifters from Carpenter’s Christian Church.
Visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

LEWIS GASH
Lewis Freeman Gash, age 65, 3110 Louisville Road, Harrodsburg, died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at the home of his mother-in-law Mrs. Flossie Cinnamon, Talmage-Mayo Road.
Born September 1, 1938 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Richard Thomas and Onita Gritton Gash.
He was a retired Production Control Engineer for IBM, Inc. for 33 years, a real estate investor, a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and a member of the Harrodsburg Church of Christ where he served as song leader for over 30 years.
Survivors in addition to his mother-in-law, include: his wife, Barbara Jean Cinnamon Gash, Harrodsburg; two sons, Gregory Trent Gash, Lexington and Todd Ericson Gash, Nashville; one daughter, Misha Babette Gash, Lexington; one brother, William (Shirley) Forrest Gash; Mercer County; a sister-in-law, Betty Ann Gash Shewmaker, Lawrenceburg; six sisters, Pauline (R. A.) Hanks, Danville, Dorothy Jean (Johnny) Simpson, Harrodsburg, Patricia (Bobby) Flora, Versailles, Velena (Roy) Harley, Lawrenceburg, Brenda (Jimmy) Peach, Lawrenceburg, and Judy (James) Harley, Harrodsburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Thomas Gash, Jr.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 10, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Gary Bagwell, James Hahn, and James Harley. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chris Freeman, Tom Day, Mel Farmwald, Todd Thompson, Donnie Pinkston, and Buddy Shirley. THOMAS HARMON
Thomas Lee Harmon, 48, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Willisburg, died Monday, December 1, 2003 in Louisville.
Born September 3, 1955 in Lebanon, he was the son of Arthur and Nancy Carney Harmon of Willisburg.
He was a 1974 graduate of Washington County High School and an employee of the Pat Mattingly Trucking Company of Springfield. He was a member of the Willisburg Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Linda Faye Key Harmon; one son, Thomas Lee Harmon Jr.; three daughters, Hannah Bea Harmon, Jennifer Marie Harmon and Keasha Lee Harmon, all at home; one brother, Glenn Harmon, Willisburg.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 4, at Carey & Son Funeral Home, Springfield, with Rev. J. W. Hatfield officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.
Pallbearers were Marty Lewis, Roger Cheser, Craig Devine, Terry Carney, Johnny Harmon and Randy Sims.
EARL LOWRY
Earl Lowry, 79, of Miles Road, Nicholasville, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington.
Born August 2, 1924 in Garrard County, he was the son of the late James A. and Emma Graham Lowry.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Mable Vickers Lowry; two sons Sammy (JoAnn) Lowry and Tony Lowry, both of Nicholasville, one step-son Donald (Anna Gayle) Vickers, Nicholasville; one brother, Carl Lowry, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Catherine Carroll, Harrodsburg; Elizabeth Elliott, Lexington; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Gibson.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 5, at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Willie Laswell and Kenneth Morris officiating. Burial was in Burgin Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Jackie, Bobby, Milton and Scott Hammons, Gary Lowry and Jimmie Gibson. Honorary bearers were Roger, David, Billy, Kenneth, Tim and John Morris.
EDGAR PURDOM
Edgar Norvell Purdom, 81, East Lexington Street, died Friday, December 5, 2003 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born August 24, 1922 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late William Bannister and Nora Myrtle Norvell Purdom.
A graduate of Harrodsburg High School, he attended the University of Louisville until he enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II. He also attended Grinnell College in Iowa and Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas.
He retired after 25 years as an agent and staff manager for the National Life and Accident Insurance Company, served as the first co-president of the Harrodsburg City Schools PTA, was a former Harrodsburg city commissioner for three consecutive terms and was mayor pro-tem.
He was instrumental in the passage of a tax levy to fund the operations of the Harrodsburg Public Library and served as a member of its board of directors. He was a member of the board of the Harrodsburg Historical Society where he had served as treasurer; was a member and treasurer of the administrative board of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church, and was president of the Danville-Harrodsburg Chapter of Toastmasters International and the Bluegrass Chapter of Mensa International.
Survivors include: his wife, Ben Alice Taylor Purdom, Harrodsburg; two sons, Edgar Norvell (Claudia) Purdom, Cynthiana, William B. (Marilyn) Purdom, Orlando, FL; one daughter, Peggy (Charles) Patterson, of Ashland; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 8, at the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Owens officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David M. Patterson, Edgar N. Purdom, III, Taylor S. Purdom, Armond Bottoms, William Huff, and William H. Conover. Honorary bearers were Frank Trisler, Harold Sutherland, Larry Morris, B. M. Royalty, and Carlos Lester.

BOBBY SALLEE
Bobby C. Sallee age 65, of Crestview Drive Danville, died Friday December 5, 2003 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born April 29, 1938 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Condit Burton and Mae Roberts Sallee.
He was a retired truck driver, a Baptist, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army.
Survivors include: a companion, Brenda Elliott, Danville; one son, Terry Sallee, Harrodsburg, a step-son, Ron Elliott, Stanford; three daughters, Bobbi Tyler, Harrodsburg, Rhonda Coontz, Junction City, and Billie Jo Sullivan, Danville; two step-daughters, Lisa Clarkson, Springfield and Paula Garris, Stanford; one brother, Stanley Sallee, Harrodsburg, nine grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Winford Sallee, Floyd Sallee, James "Peck" Sallee, Roger "Donnie" Sallee, Condit Sallee, Jr., and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 8, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial with Military Honors was in Berea Christian Church Cemetery.

REVA SMOTHERS
Reva Hardin Smothers, 79, of 160 Needmore Road, Danville, died Saturday, December 6, 2003 at the home of her daughter in Washington County.
Born August 30, 1924 in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Cordie Whitehouse Hardin. She was the widow of Charles Smothers.
She was an antique dealer and owned and operated Reva's Antiques on the Danville-Perryville Road in Danville. She was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Kay Arnold, Washington County; one son, Steve Smothers, Danville; two sisters, Elizabeth Fischer and Louise Hughes, both of Louisville; one brother, Loran Hardin, Miami, FL; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 8, at the Wilder Funeral Home with Rev. John McDaniel officiating. Burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery in Washington County.
BERTHA THUOTTE
Bertha Thuotte, 81, 1070 Johnson Road, died Friday, December 5, 2003 at her residence.
Born September 9, 1922 in Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Rosilda Duminie Beron. She was the widow of Aime David Thuotte, II.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include: her daughter, Mrs. Robert (Ann) Cooper, Harrodsburg; three grandsons, Kenneth, Joseph and Jeffrey Krozel and two great-grandchildren, Seth and Christina Ann Krozel.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 9, at the O’Donnell Funeral Home in North Judson, IN. Burial was in the Highland Cemetery in North Judson.
Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of local arrangements.
WILLIAM WILLIAMS
William "Bill" Eugene Williams, age 62, Beechwood Avenue, Bardstown, died Sunday December 7, 2003 at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.
Born December 27, 1940 in Holy Oak, MA, he was the son of Bertha Williams of Anaheim, CA and the late Charles Williams.
He was a retired air conditioner and boiler technician, a member of the teamsters union and Alepo Shriners of Boston, MA. He enjoyed computers and was a cat lover.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: his wife, Ruth Elizabeth Rawlings, Bardstown; one son, Glenn Williams, Elizabethtown; two step sons, Allan Mattox, Harrodsburg and Tony Cesa of Ocala, FL; two step daughters, Rose Mary Leal, Indianapolis, IN and Shiron Hooper of Bardstown; three brothers, Perley Williams of Tijuana, Mexico, Edward Charles Williams of Lynn, MA and Thomas Williams of Tampa Bay, FL; two grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Williams and a step grandson, Michael Mattox.
Memorial services will be conducted at a later date.
