Fred D. Overstreet, 98, 1241 Bondville Road, Salvisa, died Thursday, December 18, 2003 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born December 6, 1905 in Bondville, he was the son of the late Tom and Sue James Overstreet. He was the widower of Zoe Rue Overstreet.
He was a graduate of Kavanaugh High School, Anderson County, and a retired farmer.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Robert and Lewis Overstreet, and a sister, Margie Adams.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann O. Tracy, Lawrenceburg, and Charlotte (Howard) Fallis, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, Lanny Tracy, Wendy Runnion, Mitzi Fallis, Carol Ann Tracy, and Kirk Fallis; four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Fred Overstreet, Jr., one daughter, Jane Rue Overstreet, and a son-in-law, Carroll Tracy.
Graveside services will be conducted at a later date in Spring Hill Cemetery by Johnnie Hockersmith.
There will be no visitation.

PEARL RUSSELL
Pearl LouAllen Russell, 97, 8215 Zelma Fields Road, Louisville, died Monday, December 22, 2003 in Louisville.
Born September 23, 1906 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Emma Patterson LouAllen. She was the widow of Ray McKinnley Russell.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Ray Russell, Jr., Louisville; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Russell, and a daughter, May Bottom.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, December 24, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Martie Pirrman. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

WILLIA SHIRLEY
Willia Elizabeth Shirley, 88, formerly of Magnolia Street, died Sunday, December 21, 2003 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born September 12, 1915 at Rose Hill, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Elizabeth Catlett Lewis. She was the widow of Floyd Shirley.
She was retired from Harrod Cleaners, was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class.
Survivors include: two sons, Floyd Thomas “Buddy” (Lea) Shirley, Harrodsburg, David Lewis (Rita) Shirley, Mt. Washington; two daughters, Fanny Jane (Darrell) Pinkston, Harrodsburg, and Brenda Maxine (Buddy) McCrystal, Somerset; two stepdaughters, Wanda Lane and Ruth Trisler, both of Harrodsburg; one sister, Beulah Thompson, Harrodsburg; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two stepdaughters, Helen Lewis and Martha Nicely, three sisters, Genie Devine, Johnnie B. Votaw and Mattie Schutshull; and two brothers, Pagie and Oscar Lewis.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 24, at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home by John David Lane. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Kevin Shirley, David Shirley, Jr., Tommy Shirley, Timmy Shirley, Chad Humphrey, Richard Haven McCrystal, Harold Franklin McCrystal, and Floyd Michael McCrystal.

ALLEN SMITH
Allen Carroll Smith, age 82, 724 Johnson Road, died Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at the home of his son in Harrodsburg.
Born September 8, 1921 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Sidney and Ona Kurtz Smith.
He was a retired employee in the molding department at Corning Glassworks, Inc. of Harrodsburg, a US Army veteran of WW II, a member of the American Legion and was a member of the Burgin Christian Church
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Bell Clark Smith, Harrodsburg; two sons, Donald Carroll (Linda) Smith, Lexington and Richard Lee (Freida) Smith, Harrodsburg, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 20, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Greg Humpert. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with full military rites.
Pallbearers were Don Smith, Jr., Clay Peavler, James Herbert Lyons, Hugh Phillips, Llewellin Peavler, and Alfred Smith.

GARY STRATTON
Gary Payton Stratton, 57, 1095 Riley Road, Gravel Switch, died Friday, December 19, 2003 at the University Of Kentucky Medical Center.
Born August 8, 1946, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Abe Stratton, Sr. and Virginia Howard Stratton.
He was a retired employee of Florida Tile in Lawrenceburg.
Survivors include: one daughter, Carrie Stratton, Berea; four brothers, Abe Stratton Jr., Wayne Stratton, and Warren Stratton, all of Harrodsburg, and Drew Stratton, Mackville; five sisters, Nance Besler, Ocean City, MD, Helen Mitchell, Frankfort, Susan Robinson, Kay Cloyd and Lana Turpin, all of Harrodsburg, Gayle Arthur, Paintsville; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Delbert Stratton.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 22, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Edward Turpin and Gene Humes. Burial was in the Stratton Cemetery in Mercer County.
Pallbearers were Caleb Stratton, Jason Stratton, Rocky Stratton, Butter Moore, Charlie Shelton, Donnie Jones and Amanda Stratton. Honorary bearers were Nathan Johnson, Robbie Moore, Warren Stratton, Drue Stratton, Victor Mattingly, Osie Humes, Gene Humes, Donnie Jones and James Bramer.
GULNARE WELLS
Gulnare V. Wells, age 93, 2350 Louisville Road, died Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at her residence.
Born October 13, 1910 in Louisville, she was the daughter of the late John Slaughter and Gulnare Baker Long. She was the widow of William Von Borries and Frank G. Wells.
She was a homemaker and member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include: her daughter, Barbara L. VonBorries; one step son, Joe Frank (Sue) Wells, Newbury, IN; two step-grandchildren, James and Sarah Wells both of IN.
Memorial services will be held at a later date at the L. D. Pearson & Son Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville.

MILITARY RITES
Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted Military Rites for Allen Smith at Spring Hill Cemetery on December 20, 2003.
Those attending were Tom Denny, Joe Harlow, Kris Stines, Tom Rappleye, Preston Burgin and Curtis Sherrow.
Army representatives were SSG Jeffery A. McCrystal and CPL Matthew T. Wall, from HHC 206th Eng. Co., Harrodsburg.
Zena Teater III served as bugler.
CHARLES BLANKENSHIP
Charles F. Blankenship, 49, Bohon Road, husband of Sharon Taylor Blankenship, died Monday, June 28, 2004 as a result of a traffic accident in Jefferson County.
Born Jan. 14, 1955 in Williamson, WV, he was a son of the late Howard and Rita Bentley Blankenship.
He was a disabled coal miner.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Andrew Blankenship of Red Jacket, WV; two daughters, Leisha Blankenship Perkins of Cleveland, OH and Taylor Nicole Blankenship of Mercer County; one brother, Randall Blankenship of Versailles, and one sister, Yvonne Dehart of Red Jacket, WV.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Donald, Jimmy, Danny and Bobby Blankenship.
The funeral will be today, Thursday, July 1 at 1 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Harley officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Davis, Ryan Wilcher, Ben Houston, Rocky Blankenship, Roy T. and Randy Hiles.
Visitation Wednesday from 4 until 7 p.m. and Thursday after 7:30 a.m. at the chapel.
CHARLES BLANKENSHIP
Local Man Killed In Vehicular Accident
Charles Blankenship, 49, of Bohon Road in Mercer County died from injuries suffered in a car accident Monday night in Jefferson County.
Apparently, Blankenship was traveling east bound on I-64 near the 19 ˝ mile marker when the vehicle he was driving struck the front end of a semi-tractor trailer pulled to the shoulder but extended into the right driving lane, according to a report by Mark Sinclari, deputy county coroner in Jefferson County.
The accident occurred at 7:54 p.m. and Blankenship was pronounced dead by the coroner at 8:01 pm.
Blankenship suffered multiple injuries, but head injuries appeared to be the cause of the death, according to the coroner’s report.
Blankenship is survived by a wife, Sharon, and three children.
The funeral will be Thursday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
ELENA BROOKING
Elena Estelle Brooking, formerly of Harrodsburg, wife of Richard Alan “Dickie” Brooking, died Thursday, June 3, 2004 in Corpus Christi, TX.
Born Feb. 29, 1932 in LaFayette, TN, she was the daughter of the late George Carl and Vada Olyne Davis Wilson.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: two sons, John Walter (Nancy Ganucheau) Draughon III of Missouri City, TX, and Philip Eric (Sue) Draughon of Keauhou, HI; two daughters, Lara Fitzgerald (Randall) Harris of Ojo Caliente, NM, and Patricia Lynn Bruce of Bloomington Springs, TN; four sisters, Georgia Cozell (Ben) Phelps, Joyce Annez (Carl) Edwards, Donna Jean (Jack) McCormick and Deborah Elaine (Paul) Patterson, all of TN; one brother, Paul David (Carol) Wilson of Dublin, OH; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Robert Bruce.
The funeral was held Monday, June 7 at the Trevino Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, TX with Deacon Ray Ahlers officiating. Burial was June 26 in Spring Hill Cemetery.
