ALMA ISHAM

Alma Isham, 84, North College Street, widow of William J. Isham, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born March 7, 1920 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Breckenridge “Brack” and Zannah McGinnis Collier.

She was a retired glass inspector for Corning, Inc. and was a member of the Antioch Christian Church in Willisburg.

Survivors include: one son, Wallace (Mary Jane) Isham of Hampton, FL; two daughters, Billie (Val) McCord of Lancaster, and Annetta (Chandler) Durr of High Spring, FL; one brother, Bev Collier of Mercer County; three sisters, Elizabeth Scott of MI, Lee Ora Tyler of Harrodsburg, and Lillian Tyler of Burgin; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Violet Steele.

The funeral was conducted Wednesday, July 28 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Val McCord officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the New Antioch Christian Church, c/o Julie Marks, 1060 Jack Black Rd., Lancaster, KY 40444.

WILLIAM LINTON SR.

William Lee Linton Sr., 80, Kinnarid Avenue, Lancaster, husband of Cleo Rice Linton, died Friday, July 23, 2004 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Born Dec., 4, 1923 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Joseph Cephus and Hattie VanDyke Linton.

He was a retired sanitation employee for the city of Lancaster. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Peters AME Church in Harrodsburg.

Survivors include: two sons, William Linton Jr. of Danville and Albert (Ernestine) Linton of Dayton, OH; three daughters, Patricia Gale (William) Penix of Harrodsburg, Donna Louise (William) Hocker of Lancaster, and Hattie Pearl (Carl) Evans of Lafollett, TN; two brothers-in-law, George Hudson and John L. Burton; one niece; one nephew; 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Morris C. Linton; one daughter, Barbara Ray; one brother, Joseph C. Linton, and one sister, Mary Hudson.

The funeral was held Wednesday, July 28 at the First Baptist Church of Duncantown with Rev. David McPherson officiating. Burial was in Duncantown Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Cecil Dunn, Billy Carter Trumbo, Johnny Allen, Jackie Trumbo, Steven Baker, Tyrone Leavell, Carl Miller and Rob Boatley.

Honorary bearers were Marvin Dismeaux, Walter Anderson, Edward Mitchell and James Davis.

Arrangements were handled by Spurlin Funeral Home in Lancaster.

VIOLA MURRAY

Viola Day Murray, 83, Corinth, formerly of Harrodsburg and Hillsboro, OH, widow of Charles “Bud” Murray, died Sunday, July 18, 2004 in Fruitland Park, FL.

Born Aug. 25, 1920 in Laurel Creek, she was a daughter of the late Will and Sophie Lunsford Day.

She was a homemaker and a birdwatcher. She loved the outdoors, fishing, and all animals. She was a special aunt to several generations of nieces and nephews.

Survivors include: two sisters, Lucy (Sollie) Vanover of Harrodsburg and Bessie (Bill) Brown of Tacoma, WA, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Saturday, July 24 at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home in Whitley City with Bro. Ron Davis officiating. Burial was in the Higgenbotham Cemetery.

PHYLLIS SEA

Phyllis Yeager Hamlin Sea, 66, Vail Drive, Lawrenceburg, wife of Louis H. Sea, died Saturday, July 24, 2004 at her home after an illness.

Born May 2, 1938 in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Venie Drury Yeager Sr.

She was a retired custodian with the Mercer County school system. She was a member of Salvisa United Methodist Church and of the adult Sunday School Class as well as custodian of the church. She was a 1957 graduate of Mercer County High School.

Survivors include: one daughter, Paula (Scott) Pitcock of Glasgow; two sons, Anthony (Sheri) Hamlin of Salvisa and Dale (Sheri) Hamlin of Lexington; two stepdaughters, Barbara (Greg) Hodges of Anton, TX and Kathy (Craig) Stone of Wylie, TX; three stepsons, Marty (Diane) Sea, Mike (Christy) Sea, Christy, all of Anton, TX, and Timmy (Linda) Sea of Taylorsville; one sister, Sandy (Kenny) Long of Mercer County; two brothers, Marvin (Faye) Yeager Jr. and Larry (LouAnn) Yeager, both of Mercer County; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nine step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert and Carroll Yeager.

The funeral was held Wednesday, July 28 at Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Bro. David Green, Bro. Jason Clark, and Bro. Danny Wiley officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Stevie and Timmy Yeager, Chad Crouch, Floyd Drury, Kenny Goodlett, Troy Pitcock and Jamie Kinney.

Honorary bearers were Bruce and Freda Catlett, Jerry Barnett, Barbara Decann, Genevie Hensley, Bobby Hooper, Charlie Raley, Lavon Lester, Junior Jones, Donnie and Mary Ann Green, Keith Hyatt and Joy Gash.

Memorial contributions may be made to Salvisa United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 126, Salvisa, KY 40372.

MABEL SMITH

Mabel Dunn Smith, 74, Getzville, NY, wife of James L. Smith, died Monday, July 26, 2004 in Buffalo General Hospital after a short illness.

Born March 30, 1930 in Burgin, she was a daughter of the late Price and Hattie Belle Dunn.

She graduated from Westside High School in Harrodsburg as salutatorian and attended Wilberforce University in OH. She worked at the Girl Scouts of USA in New York City and retired after 15 years as a clerk in the J.C. Penney Co. store in Buffalo. She enjoyed bowling.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one son, Mark Smith of Getzville; two sisters, Doris (Theodore) Padgett of Orlando, FL and Besse (Aaron) Tyson of Pfafftown, NC; one brother, Otley Dunn of New York City; one brother-in-law, James Reynolds; two sisters-in-law, Ruby and Elanor Dunn; one goddaughter, Joanne Paschal; one niece who lived with her as a teenager, Maureen Dunn, and several other nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held today, Thursday, July 29 in Evangel Assembly of God Church, 1800 Maple Rd., Buffalo, NY 14221.

JOHN STAGG SR.

John Robert “Bob” Stagg Sr., 81, Sunrise Shores, husband of Elizabeth Lococo Stagg, died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center.

Born April 3, 1923 in Danville, he was the son of the late Joseph Overstreet and Charlotte Scott Stagg.

He was former president of Stagg Lumber Co. He was a sales representative in central and eastern Kentucky for Forest Products/Pacific Lumber Company. He was a 1941 graduate of Danville High School and attended University of Alabama. He was past president of Danville Country Club and the Lions Club and was a charter member of “M” Club. He was also a past board member for the Salvation Army. He was a staff sergeant in the Army during WWII.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Lowry Stagg (Gordon) Greenlee of Orind, CA; one son, John R. (Pamela) Stagg Jr. of Danville; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Nicholas “Nickie” Stagg.

Visitation today, Thursday, July 29 after 4 p.m. at Stith Funeral Home in Danville.

The family requests memorials be made to the WWII Veterans Memorial or the Alzheimer’s Association.

EUGENE BROOKS

Eugene Brooks, 81, of Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation, died Sunday, August 1, 2004 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center,Danville.

Born June 12, 1923, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Willie and Mary Reed Brooks. He was the widower of Evelyn Boyd Brooks.

He was a farmer and former employee of Anderson-Spillman Mill and was a member of Southern Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Judy Walls of Seminole, Fla., Debbie Brooks of Danville and Mary Pulliam of Harrodsburg; a brother, Jimmy Brooks of Danville; two sisters, Dorothy Vineyard of Stanford and Halline Franklin of Danville; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 5, at Bellevue Cemetery. Danville.

Stith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MARSHALL HART

Marshall Leon Hart, 70, Perryville Road, husband of Imogene Worthington Hart, died Friday, July 30, 2004 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Born March 1, 1934 in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Robert Lee and Vergie Helen Atkinson Hart.

He was a retired maintenance supervisor for the Kentucky Department of Parks. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife , survivors include: two sons, David (Marlene) Hart and Jeffery (Lisa) Hart; one daughter, Debbie (Kenny) Merriman; one daughter-in-law, Diana Bottom Hart, and one brother, Merle (Charlotte) Hart, all of Harrodsburg; one sister, Geraldine (Homer) Calvert of Frankfort; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Terry Brent Hart, and one brother, Ralph Hart.

The funeral was conducted Monday, August 2 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor and Daryl Catlett officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lee, Adam, Chris and Matthew Hart, Shannon, Travis and Jeremy Stephens, Aaron Bottoms and Joshua Cheatham.

Honorary bearers were Irvin, Obie and Bobby Joe Worthington, Kenneth Coffman, Bob Langford, Homer Calvert and Reuben Deringer.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Gideons Memorial Bible Fund, P.O. Box 176, Harrodsburg , KY 40330.

HOBERT HOUSTON

Hobert G. Houston, 74, Connersville, IN, husband of Pansy McRay formerly of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 at Fayette Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack at his residence on Thursday.

Born Feb. 19, 1930 in Manchester, he was a son of the late John and Sherilda Napier Houston.

He was formerly employed at Philco-Ford, Hanson Builders and was co-owner and operator of the former F and H Home Builders. He was owner and operator of the building company Hobert Houston and Sons in Connersville and most recently employed with Southern Cross Builders. He was an active member of the Western Avenue Baptist Church for nearly 45 years and served for many years as a deacon. He was a master carpenter and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include: one daughter, Anna (Terry) Arnold; three sons, Vernon (Belinda) Houston, Ron (Debbie) Houston and Regie (Judy) Houston, all of Connersville.

The funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. at Western Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery.

Visitation Friday from 4 until 8:30 p.m. at the Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home or the church to the Western Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund.

MADELYN McGLONE

Madelyn Lucille McGlone, 86, 410 West Office Street, widow of Cecil M. McGlone, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care Facility.

Born Dec. 28, 1917 in Washington County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Maggie Roney Powell.

She was a retired seamstress for Hub Frankel in Danville. She was a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Yates-Spilman Sunday School class.

Survivors include: four daughters, Doris Weddle and Bonnie Milburn, both of Danville, Barbara Newby of Harrodsburg, and Marie Moss of Carlisle; nine grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Beulah Noel; two half-brothers, J.K. Powell and Ben Teater, and two half-sisters, Eula D. Luzovec and Aileen Isham.

The funeral was conducted Wednesday, Aug. 4 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Owens and Daniel Steele officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Justin Tinsley, Daniel and Brandon Steele, Brent Newby, Daryl and Caleb Kelly, James Cutter and Nathan Dossett.

Honorary bearers were members of the Yates-Spilman Sunday School class.
