PAUL MEADOWS

Paul Meadows, 76, Torrance, CA, formerly of Harrodsburg, widower of Mayola Christine Lay Meadows, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Harbor City, CA.

Born Jan. 5, 1928 in McAfee, he was the son of the late Elisha and Emma Hayden Meadows.

He was a retired self-employed electronic instrumentation technical supervisor and an apartment manager for Pro Management Co. in Torrance. He was a U.S. Navy and Army veteran of the Korean War. He attended the Baptist church.

Survivors include: two sons, Monte Meadows of Torrance, CA and Kenneth Bradley Meadows of London; one daughter, Linnie Christine Paz of Sevierville, TN; two sisters, Emma Pearson of TN and Melda Botts of OH; two granddaughters, Sara Carver of FL and Cari Henderson of Knoxville, TN, and one great-grandchild, Lane Henderson, of Knoxville, TN.

The funeral was conducted Tuesday, August 3 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Raymond Costello officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

EVANS MOSELEY

Dr. Evans Taylor Moseley, 93, Beaumont Avenue, husband of Frances Board Keightley Moseley, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore after a short illness.

Born July 16, 1911 in Livermore, he was the son of the late Woodford T. and Sallie Freeman Moseley.

He was a graduate of Bethel College, Carson-Newman Baptist College and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

After graduation, he married Emma Lee Finch of Columbia, IN and they began their first pastorate at Beaver Dam.

In 1940, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was called to duty on Jan. 1, 1941. Immediately after Pearl Harbor, he was sent from Fort Sill, OK to Hickam Field, HI.

His next assignment was the South Pacific, where he served as chaplain for the 25th Artillery, known as “The Tropic Lightning Division.” This group took part in the campaigns of Guadalcanal, New Caledonia, Bougainville and the invasion of the Philippines. After the war, he remained active in the U.S. Army Reserve until he retired with the rank of colonel.

Since 1946, he has served as pastor for Baptist churches in Rogersville, TN, at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church from 1947 until 1954, and Ponca City, OK. He joined the faculty of Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, serving one term as president there. After retiring from Oklahoma Baptist University, he joined the faculty of Ponca Military Academy and was interim pastor at Longwood Baptist Church, Sunset Baptist Church and at the mission for the Ponca Indians in Kaye County, OK. He also served on the boards for the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville and the Golden Gate Seminary in San Francisco, CA. He was also a member of many veteran organizations and a number of civic clubs.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, William Finch Moseley of The Woodlands, TX and Thomas Evans Moseley of Alton, IL; one step-daughter, Julie Gist Keightley of Louisville, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Woodford T. Moseley, and his first wife, Emma Lee Finch Moseley.

The funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating and Fr. Joseph Meunch assisting. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with full military rites.

Visitation Saturday from 12 noon until the hour of service at the church.

Pallbearers will be deacons of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Arrangements are being handled by the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

The family requests no flowers. However, memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln Unit at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, 100 Veterans Drive, Wilmore, KY 40390 or to the charity of one’s choice.

JEWELL PROCTOR

Jewell Proctor, 81, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford.

Born Oct. 16, 1922 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William Russell and Tazzie Williams Herring.

She had worked at the McAfee Market. She was a member of the Mt. Moriah Christian Church in Stanford. She loved quilting and being a homemaker.

Survivors include: one son, B.W. (Jane) Proctor of Millington, TN; three daughters, Jo (Walter Cecil) Cummins of Lancaster, Gayle Salyers of Lexington and Peggy Travillian of Harrodsburg; one daughter-in-law, Margaret Proctor of Harrodsburg; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Cleo Proctor, and one sister, Blanche Biens.

The funeral was held Saturday, July 31 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Cox officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Hobert Proctor, Mike Culligan, Daniel Wright, J. R. Cummins, Samantha Carroll, Susan Wofford and Brian Mardis.

EDNA SOUTHERLAND

Edna Pearl Southerland, 82, of Bloomington, IL died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at McLean County Nursing Home.

Born Sept. 21, 1922, in Moreland, she was the daughter of the late Arthur R. and Mary G. Hafley. She was retired from the housekeeping department at the Mennonite Hospital and was a member of Bible Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Sherman F. Southerland; a daughter, Connie Litwiller of Minier, IL; three sons, Darrell Southerland of Junction City, Sidney Southerland of Nicholasville, and Ernest Southerland of Normal, IL; four sisters, Dorothy Spears of Moreland, Carol East of Lancaster, Jane Reed of Harrodsburg and Hulda Hafley of Junction City; two brothers, R. C. Hafley and Levi Hafley, both of Louisville; 15 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 31, at Bible Baptist Church in Bloomington by the Rev. Mark Bouslog. Burial will be in Funks Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may go to Bible Baptist Church or McLean County Nursing Home.

SUE TATE

Sue Greene Tate, 85, 1588 Perryville Rd., Springfield, widow of Estle Lee Tate, died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at her residence.

Born March 21, 1919 in Washington County, she was a daughter of the late Houston and Annie Lee Burns Greene.

She had been a press operator at Cowden Mfg. Co. and Cricketeer in Harrodsburg and had worked as a nurse’s aide for several years caring for homebound patients. She was a member of the Springfield Church of God.

Survivors include: one son, Billy Dewayne Abell of Springfield; one daughter, Joann White of Corydon, IN; one sister, Ruth Ann Bottoms of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Rhonda Sue Barnes.

The funeral was conducted Sunday, August 1 at the Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Bob Riley and Bro. Ricky Curtsinger officiating. Burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery in Springfield.

Pallbearers were Bourbon and William O’Neal Elliott, Donnie, Ricky and Woody Staton, Steven Bottoms, Buddy Tate and Buddy Tate Jr.

GRACE BRADLEY

Grace Wall Bradley, 81, 673 Perryville Street, wife of Billy Bradley, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004 at her residence.

Born Dec. 11, 1922 in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Florence Gooch Wall.

She was a certified nurse’s aid at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of Benton Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one son, Donald Salyers of Crab Orchard; two daughters, Juanita (Delbert) Hamner of Harrodsburg and Betty Gail Whittaker of Hustonville; four sisters, Nellie Phillips of Kings Mountain, Ruth Smith of Lancaster, and Jewell and Jean Salyers, both of Hustonville; one step-sister, Mae Betts of Danville; five grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

The funeral was conducted Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville with Rev. Keith Weldon and Jack Geurin officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were William Beedy, Scott and Eric Hamner, Shane Whittaker, David Fields and Eugene Bradley.

Honorary pallbearer was Bryan Salyers.

Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice, 337 West Broadway, Danville, KY 40422.

VERA GAINES
Vera Frances Peyton, Gaines, 78, of Bourbon County, died Thursday, August 5, 2004 at her residence.

Born in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late James and Hattie Peyton.

She was retired from Irvin Industries and a member of Grace Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, John Wesley Gaines Jr. and his wife Jayne, Bourbon County; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Gaines, Scott County; five grandchildren, Carrie Scott, Sonya Connor, Billie Gaines, Holly Randolph and Arron Gaines; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Gaines, and her son, William Taylor Gaines.

Funeral services will be at 12 pm Saturday, August 7, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main Street by Dr. Terrence Freeman. Burial will be in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday .

Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.

EDWARD HALL

Edward Hall, 45, Arba Pike, Richmond, IN, formerly of Pineville, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004.

Born March 7, 1959 in Pineville, he was a son of Carrie Rice Hall of Four Mile and the late Robert Bruce Hall.

He was a self-employed construction worker and had worked for Weisenhunt Construction Company. He loved fishing and hunting.

Survivors include: one son, Jacob Andrew Hall of Liberty, IN; two brothers, Andrew (Norma) Hall and Robert Bruce Hall, both of Middlesboro; four sisters, Rita Hall (Stacy) Miller and Betty Joe (Leo) Benjamin, both of Harrodsburg, Patsy Sue (Berlon) Hall-Sparks of Richmond, IN and Edith (Rick) Reed of Brookville, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Aug. 11 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bill Dunn officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Berlon Sparks, Jacob Hall, Kenneth Cox, Shawn Hockensmith, Freddie Dunn and Robert Miller.

Honorary pallbearers were friends.

J. W. JACKSON

J. W. Jackson, 75, Stevenson Ave., Danville, husband of Roberta B. Jackson, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004 at his residence.

Born April 17, 1929 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late James and Florence Darling {Darland} Jackson.

He was a retired truck driver for Lawrenceburg Transfer. He attended First Church of God. He was an Army veteran.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three sons, Dale (Sherry) Taylor and Bryan {Brian} (Tresa) Jackson, both of Harrodsburg and Dennis Jackson of Lexington; two daughters, Gloria (Steve) Peavler and Lisa (Granvell) Morron {Morrow}, both of Danville; two sisters, Myrtle Britton of Lawrenceburg and Lucille Lester of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

The funeral was held Monday, Aug. 9 at Stith Funeral Home in Danville. Burial was at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Barry Britten {Britton}, Darrill Lester, Tom Smock, Danny Bryant, Roger Robinson and Al Abner.

Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice, 337 West Broadway, Danville, KY 40422.
