Kentucky Marriage Records by County

SCOTT MITCHELL JR.

Scott Mitchell Jr., 83, Ft. Washington, MD, husband of Loudell Rowe Mitchell, died Friday, July 23, 2004 at the Fort Washington Maryland Hospital after a short illness.

Born Nov. 15, 1920 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Scott Mitchell Sr. and Miriam Reed Mitchell.

He served in the U.S. Corps of Engineers from 1942 until 1945 and then attended Columbia Technical Institute and became an electrical engineer. He was employed by General Electric as a sales engineer from 1951 until retirement in 1982. He enjoyed boating and was a member of the Capitol Yacht Club in Washington, D.C. where he was instrumental in establishing the Scott Mitchell Library. He also was involved in little theater groups for many years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one sister, Helen Dismukes of Harrodsburg, and one niece, Elizabeth Wilhoite of Frankfort.

The funeral was held Tuesday, July 27 at the Kalas Funeral Home in Oxen Hill, MD with Rev. Charles Riggs officiating and was followed with military rites.

TERRI SHORT

Terri G. Short, 48, Unity Road, wife of Benny Short, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born Aug. 16, 1955 in Harrodsburg she was the daughter of Seymore and Helen Lester Claunch of Danville.

She was an accountant for the Kentucky Overall Service in Lawrenceburg. She was a member of the Benton Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one son, Brandon (Nicole) Short of Frankfort; one daughter, Tara Short of Harrodsburg; one sister, Sheila Cox of Perryville, and her maternal grandmother, Pirlia Mae Lester of Harrodsburg.

The funeral was conducted Wednesday, Aug. 11 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Pete Gilliam officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Derek and Justin Ball, William Leonard Currens, Donnie Tyler, Josh Devine and Josh McCoy.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102, Harrodsburg, KY 40330 or to Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422.

CECIL SIMS

Cecil Dale Sims, 39, Lehigh Acres, FL, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004 in FL.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

MILITARY RITES

American Legion Post #52, Disabled American Veterans Chapter #54, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6935 conducted Military Rites for Dr. Evans Taylor Moseley at Spring Hill Cemetery on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004.

Those attending were: Curtis Sherrow, Marion Mershon, Joe Harlow, Lucian Landers, Tommy Denny, Howard H. Howells, Dewitt Sims, Gary Winfield, Preston Burgin and James Tewmey.

Buglers were Jerry Freeman and Duchess Freeman. Army representatives were Sgt. Richard Allen II, Cpt. Kevin A. Elliott and Ssg. Thomas H. Lisle.

JAMES BAKER

James E. Baker, 75, died Monday, August 16, 2004 in Harrodsburg.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 19 at Carey & Son Funeral Home, Springfield.

Visitation will be after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.

KAREN COOK

Karen E. Cook, 62, Satellite Beach, FL, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at her home.

A native of Detroit, MI, she moved from Harrodsburg to Brevard County, FL in 1994.

Survivors include: her husband, James F. Cook; two sons, Kenneth and Donald Christensen; one daughter, Elaine Christensen; and a sister, Donna Cischke.

No services are scheduled.

South Brevard Funeral Home, Melbourne, FL in charge of arrangements.

VERA GAINES

Vera Frances Peyton Gaines, 78, Bourbon County, widow of John W. Gaines, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004 at her residence.

Born Sept 1, 1925 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late James and Hattie Peyton.

She was retired from Irvin Industries. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Lexington.

Survivors include: one son, John Wesley (Jayne) Gaines Jr. of Bourbon County; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Gaines of Scott County; five grandchildren, Carrie Scott, Sonya Connor, Billie Gaines, Holly Randolph and Arron Gaines, and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, William Taylor Gaines.

The funeral was conducted Saturday, Aug. 7 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Main St., Lexington with Dr. Terrence Freeman officiating. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.

VIOLET JEPSEN

Violet C. Jepsen, 66, Louisville Road, wife of Dean T. Jepsen, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004 at her residence after a short illness.

Born July 3, 1938 in Perryville, she was a daughter of the late Jess and Nellie Broughton Tharp.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: three brothers and four sisters.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 17 in the Spring Hill Cemetery with burial following.

Arrangements were handled by the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

EDWIN KING

Edwin E. King, 76, Burgin Road, husband of Mary Roberts King, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born Dec. 31, 1927 in Falmouth, he was a son of the late Audrey and Fannie McKinney King.

He was a World War II Army Veteran. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Kentucky. He was a retired Soil Conservationist, having served Mercer and Boyle counties. He was also a farmer.

He attended the Bohon Christian Church; his membership remained at the Oakland Christian Church in Pendleton County.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Judith (Richard) Peach of Versailles and Susan (Tony) Hunt of Danville, and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers: Homer, Langley, Melvin, Estill and Herbert King, and one sister, Elsie King.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Aug. 17 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bros. Leonard Price and Jim Terry officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Roger, Ricky and Jerome King, Will Browning, Charlie Baker and Jimmy Howard.

Honorary bearers were James Ellis, John Tuggle and Jimmy Keller.

SUSAN LAKE

Susan Michelle Yates Lake, 38, Hillsboro Lane, Springfield, wife of Darryl Lake, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004 at the Hospice Care Center of St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born May 10, 1966 in Lebanon, she was a daughter of Kenneth and Bessie Curtsinger Yates.

She was an employee at the office of Dr. Ben Smith. She was a member of Willisburg Christian Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: two sons, Austin Bryce Barr of Campbellsville and Johnathon Allen Barr of Springfield; one daughter, Amelia Kathryn Lake also of Springfield; three brothers, Terry (Teresa) Yates of Cornishville, Daniel (Missy) Yates and Jeff Yates, both of Springfield; four sisters, Pam (Phillip) Adkins, Marilyn (Johnnie) Walls of Lawrenceburg, Jackie Kirsch of Willisburg and Jennifer (Kevin) Edelen of Springfield, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Monday, Aug. 16 at the Willisburg Christian Church with Bro. Greg Bowen, church minister, officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.

Pallbearers were John Settles, David, Tommy and Darnell White, Paul Coulter and Mark Hale.

Arrangements were handled by Carey and Son Funeral Home.

CECIL SIMS

Cecil Dale Sims, 39, Lehigh Acres, FL, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004 at the Hospice House South, Ft. Myers, FL.

Born April 3, 1965 in Harrodsburg, he was a son of Linda Bugg and Bill Packard of Salvisa and the late William Cecil Sims.

He was a self-employed truck driver.

Survivors include: two sons, Stuart C. Sims and William C. Sims, both of Lehigh Acres, FL; two brothers, John T. (Jackie) Sims of Salvisa and Steve C. Sims of Frankfort; one stepbrother, Calvin Sims; three nephews, and one niece.

The funeral was conducted Friday, Aug. 13 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Hockersmith officiating. Burial was in the Kirkwood Cemetery in Salvisa.

Pallbearers were Dan and Charlie Royalty, Steven, John Thomas, Jeremy T. and John T. Sims and John Marklin.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422.
